If a new/returning player wanted to ‘catch up’ on the story, so as to not feel ‘mass confusion’, there are some avenues to alleviate that.

I’m sure asking in-game would garner a suggestion to consult the Wiki, or any of the other possible venues for information.

I also believe (though not 100% sure) that the Devs stated there would be an NPC (as there have been occasionally in the past) that would offer a recap of the story, thus far, somewhere in Tyria.

Its 2015.. How many gamers do you know that will pay $50 for a game then have to outsource the lore to enjoy it properly? or expect to have to for that matter. imo something that is key to the enjoyment of the story plot should be included in the expansion no one is asking for it for free.

no, it is not part of the core game, it is additional DLC and is not included in the pre-purchase (or any purchase) of HoT.

If this is true and is considered a DLC in a recent developer post it was said in the future they would include all past expansions and the core game with every release of a new expansion.. does this statement exclude HoT (or is DLC just not included period and if so why make the DLC a key to the story… $$$$)

This could get very pricey or grindy if buying via ingame gold, later on down the road.

This is related to HoT and it being a direct sequel to Season 2 “Living World” ( excluding season 1 that seems to be a lost cause for new/returning players like myself)

Soo currently with the pre-purchase of HoT you get the core game and if im not mistaken Living world story is apart of the core game no? is it included with HoT when we pre-purchase it or do we still have to buy it via gem store?

Another concern, if Living world is only available via gem store and we buy HoT (new player) how are we going to know we are missing a huge chunk of the story already?.. i can see mass confusion for newer players being dropped into a situation and not know whats going on at a all with no back story.

some clarification would be awsome on this subject.. if HoT is fleshed out and playable without LW being required.. it would save alot of us some money and time ($60-$70 value depending on how long the sale lasts this is including HoT to get the full exxperience), from what i heard season 2 ark is broken if you havnt seen season 1, it be nice to just skip it for a decent prologue.

So i just got 2 days ago after being gone for lil over a year aside from the main story quest.. im lost on what exactly is there to do… i have a daily quest tracker but when i click on it it sends me to pvp acheivements but it says i can do pve stuff to complete idk this entire daily thing is just confusing.. on top of all this, i am clueless on how to get gold to get the living story quest unlocked from cash shop… would it be better for me to just start all over so i can atleast hopefully get some tutorials on this stuff?

Why are these abilities not listed in the skill menu? kinda hard to get a grasp on what they actually do when its a pain in the butt to figure them out… have to enter into combat get full DS bar exit combat read them figure them out maybe even write them down to figure out the best way to combo them.

I suggest waiting. In time it will be featured on sites such as Greemangaming, GoG and others that will have it at a discounted price if you don’t agree 50 bucks minimum is a reasonable price.

This seems to be my best bet and while Ayrilana.1396 makes a valid point only i can decide the worth of something, its hard to wrap my head around the pricing for such a small exspansion (refering to content that will keep the average player playing not hardcore gw2 players) and their reasoning for it.. its like they are doing it for the sake of just doing it.

, i got a full lvling exp from 1-80 as well as some kool story, on top of countless interesting (not all but most) quest.. i logged about 500hrs of gameplay before hitting my limit bout a year ago. in the base game..

What makes HoT worth $50?, becuz if im not getting the same exp as before thats a rip off for real.. a new class, some class revamp stuff (which should have been there before, i shouldnt have to pay becuz you changed your mind on how you want the classes to work) and some 15-20ish hours of story if its even that much.

Whether the expansion is worth it is something everyone should consider. A lot of people, including myself, have already decided that it is. More information will be released between now and when it’s released so hopefully more people who are on the fence will decide for themselves that it’s worth it.

Yes there is such a thing as pricing a game above their value which I though my post had addressed. It’s up to the players to determine if the current cost of the expansion is worth it. That’s not decision that I, nor anyone else, can make for them.

Whether HoT contains only a fraction of the content of the core game is irrelevant. For one thing, no expansion that I have heard of contained more content than its core game. I brought up Skyrim to show that value is not necessarily tied to price. If that was actually true then one of the games was not priced correctly.

Whether you purchase the expansion or not is not about a comparison (check list) with what you got out of the core game or what other expansions provide. It’s about the value that you get from the expansion itself and whether you personally feel that it’s worth the price that is currently being charged for it.

No mmo i have heard of has charged its player base a full games price for the fraction of its content and yest this is relevant… letts not forget returning players must also buy the living story pack which is $20 (or some odd amount of hours grinding for gold) to be up to date on the story which so far seems to be anets selling point. which also brings me to another Q: why not add “the living story” to the $49.99 instead of the base game?

While i did get more enjoyment out of gw2,, skyrims price was justified by its content and replayablity.

What if you’re getting a better experience than before?

Here’s a thought, instead of trying to start yet another emotion-laden tear-jerker of a thread in a sea of crocodile tears how about you actually go to a little research of your own? Watch videos, watch reviews, and decide for yourself with the only person that actually is concerned about your opinion… yourself. You’ll make a far more informed judgement if you actually use information in your judgement.

As you can so painfully tell with the information i provided in my OP i did the research and non of thee above suggest and justifies HoT being $50.. If the story is the selling point it better be one hell of a story..

im not very familiar with horizontal progression games.. i get they have to make money but with the info provided and to someone that mainly familiar wit vertical progression where an exspansion comes with new lvls, gear and multiple zones (which reminds me this exspansion has only one new zone and not very big).. they are not selling it very well.

Whats really messed up is, when we had the bug at the beginning of the patch that buffed us, within 72 hrs (or less) they fixed it (while managing to break the skill that was buffed in the process), but the bug that nerfs us they take their sweet time like were just gonna move on and forget it.. hello! its one of our number 1 dps (if not the top dps) we have… anywayz ill be giving them the same treatment they are giving my main “the cold-shoulder” havnt logged in for 2 weeks and honestly even without the bug being the reason, i really dnt miss it.

this unfortunately is a l2p > issue, ele of all classes shuld have the least trouble with handling thieves, u just got trolled by a decent cookie cutter CnD thief.. Tip: If u so much as pass gas those things die A.K.A. lay aoe around yur feet wen they go invis and they avoid u like the plague, wrks like a charm…. if yur both glass canon then its basically russian roulette on who gets the first lucky hit in.

good to see i’m not the only one having this issue… now to add my 2 cents, iZerkers dps does seem lower did fotm yesterday and took an awful lot of time just to down a vet (im full zerker gear glass canon) but shrugged it off as poor skill timing… also when i shatter clones they dnt run to the target they just shatter wherever they are standing ( i noticed this just a few mins ago while doing events in orr my aoe was lacking becuz of this and i wasnt taging any mobs).

Aegis, Heal (#6) and dodge fix’s this prob.. always and i mean always scan the feild for thieves first they pick on the weak or solo roamer (with your build u said u had u shuldnt be weak in fact u shuld be kitten the thief off)

its all fine and good they made it harder for lvl 80 in lower lvl zones by uping the mobs, but for my lower lvl as a result some of these events are un soloable wen it was not the case before the patch (i.e. kessex hill: event telling u to kill 3 amni lt. this area is now full of centuars and bandits along with a crap ton of bandit canons and trebs… why are there bandits in an amni camp?)…. anywayz they made it harder for our lvl 80s but kittened our lower lvls.

november’s patch started it all and every patch after that broke the community up even further ex: hardcore/casual/soloer/grouper/pvper/pveer/anti-vertical progression/anti-horizontal progression.. every single patch as manged to pit 2 or more of these fragments against each other causing hostile reactions and what we see on the forums 2day… in all my years of mmo i dnt think ive ever seen a forum community so divided and frustrated.

im just posting it here so anet can see and have a look at it…. even if they weren’t bugged the new daily system is a headache and i immediately got annoyed, spent an hour and a half trying to get the combo finisher done ending with only 6 before we just ending up making a premade (prior to patch dailies took 20-30 min wtf are they drinking on over there)… anywayz ive come to the conclusion this game is not for me anymore they turn every lil thing into a grind.

its bugged for me… i spent 20 silver in wp cost traveling all over for the different mob kills, dogding is natural but still no points towards it and i had a friend go in down state in front of me all did not count… but im glad u were able to do it………

basically im getting no credit for the dailies at all… it started happening around the dc’s, i was kicked out and when i logged back in i had a different set of dailies (except for the ones i finished before i dc’d those were still there and accounted for) but now the 3 new dailies i have are not doin anything its the “kill variety”, “revive 10 allies” ( really!?) and “daily dodger”.

these dailies are designed around the player that plays 3-4 hours a day… apperently when i got dc’d and relogged i had a new set of dailies and one of them was “revive 10 allies” unless running a few dungeons back to back ive played the game 5 hours straight and prob revived 4 ppl max (meaning 4 ppl only went down near me that many times)…. why the kitten do u turn every lil thing into a grind… its not big enough to be a game breaker but so unnecessary and annoying.

this change does not make the dungeon harder for u elits out there if anything you should be kitten about it becuz they are nerfing the dungeon. now it will be easier for u to faceroll your way through the content…. just fix the bugs and insane NPC dps output that cuases this WPzerg behavior.

to say these instances are only for the hardcore is insane… that would gate half the community that are casuals from the content leading to the endgame ending as soon as u hit 80 and well then u will truly have a dead game. they have a dungeon dedicated for u elites its call FotM they even gave u a new tier to pacify u.

What the nay sayers here are failing to understand, is that Explorable Mode Dungeons are supposed to be the hardest content in this game. As it is right now, any pug can do any path of any dungeon with relative ease, with the exception of Arah. When a pug can enter the hardest content and complete it with extreme ease, then the content needs to be buffed, a lot.

As for those asking, “What/who does WP rushing hurt?” The answer is no one, but Anet does not want their dungeons being beaten like that, and that is all that matters. I’m personally getting a little excited about Dungeons now. Hopefully, they’ll become challenging for once. I found them challenging and fun back in September, but now that I’ve beaten them all countless times, they are just a place to grab some quick coin.

As for me, this change will make very little difference. I rarely let anyone die anyways, and I also run with guildies a lot, who all know the importance of reviving.

Haha, now people will actually have to learn how to play. This could be awesome for pugs in future though, means the standard amount of skill is gonna be much higher than before.

Unfortunatly history has shown this not to be the case in other games. They won’t learn how to play they will just quit because they will not be able to find groups anymore.

Usually when they make big changes like this in a game they end up having to nerf the content so it is puggable again, or there is mass crying/quitting on the forums. I personally like the dungeons the way they are but I forsee a major nerf to them in the near future.

the only thing i dnt understand is if yur gonna nerf them to the point of not having this WP zerg thing goin on, then why do u need to change the WP rez.. ppl wont use that method anymore… just take out the OP one hit KO’s these NPC dish out and fix the bug’s.

good point, but the holy trinity is more organized and thought out.. where as gw2 is pure chaos (on few occasions “organized chaos”)

I quite like the chaos. And a well oiled team makes the majority of the chaos organised.

lets be honest the majority of the playerbase is not a well oiled team. (thats not to be taken as an insult to the playerbase.) based on my own superficial calculations 70% of the time Pug’s are running this content.

IMO there is no real tactics to any of these boss fights or dungeons.

I’d argue because there’s no need to use tactics.

Keep Weakness up as much as possible, since it reduces damage by 50%

Make use of Combo’s. In addition, some Fields can also affect enemy attacks as well, i.e. Smoke fields cause enemy projectiles to miss.

Save your CC that’s affected by Defiant for when someone goes down to give people a chance to res unhindered.

Sure, the tactics are a bit onesided but so is ‘that guy keeps his attention, that guy waves his hands and these three go pew pew.’

slighty unrelated: just the other day was doing zone event in sylvari starting area, lvl 36.. did the whole meta event (note there were a few lvl 80s there assuming getting thier daily’s done) get curb stopped by a raging vet just as the world boss spawn, he was takin out before i culd make it back so no loot… point being i got facerolled by a lvl 15 vet and im lvl 36 (yes i know it scales u down).

idea: get rid of the dodge and downstate mechanic replace them with “real” healers and "real " tanks… after that u can do whatever the hell u want with the dungeons.. IMO there is no real tactics to any of these boss fights or dungeons, its dodge dodge doge rez rez rez roll yur face across your KB blow all CD rinse and repeat… just MO tho.

Really so what, if a group wants to do that who does it hurt?

It’s just plain poor game design, getting rewarded for playing poorly. It just brings the game down.

You’re not catering to ‘casuals’ then, you’re catering to ‘entitled’ gamers who think that they have the right to complete the dungeon, regardless of how poorly they play.

Ex A: AC P2 defending charr fixing mortars. Ghost spawn: ele, necro, ranger. Me: huddle in feedle positions and take kitten beating
Ex B: CoF defending asura Me: huddle in feedle position and take kitten beating, respawn rinse and repeat.

…. etc

so yes i feel i am “entitled” to a reward for getting my kitten handed to me on a silver platter… im not the best player but i understand my class and how to play it, in both of those encounters i listed none of that matters.

this will cause some major griefing, pug’ing will be quite the headache and unless theynerf the kitten out of the dungeons, those poor non lvl 80’s won’t see the inside of a instance for a while. there is no tank or healers in this game. having a “forced wipe” machanic if one or 2 ppl go down has no place here. i cant aggro a boss pounding my dps in the face… BUNKER BUILDS FOR EVERYONE!!! winning!

side note: i avoid FotM like the plague making reg instances mimic them is a no no for those who are like minded.

especially in the lower lvl areas, is hitting the lower lvl crafting market hard. T2 fine mats are almost 2s a pop.. no one is farming them or just randomly throwing them into the TP from quest loot… 3 weeks ago it was around 70-85 copper.. i hope there will be a solution to this cuz as of right now lower lvl crafting is gonna be a huge grind (DR blows) or a major gold sink (i smell gemstore opportunity).

we have to do all of that to match one ability. (im a S/P user i do not spam HS and any skilled thief wuldnt, its not very effective until 35% health)

i am sorry but what you say is irelevant , i got arround 700-800 hours on thief , all the time played in wvw , i lvl’ed in 12 h with crafting + map explore.
You know that in order to counter steal C/d backstab combo from an glass cannon thief ( with basilik vennom or daze on steal) you must have 1-2 dodge rolls Up , 1 stun breaker and – 1 movement ability available to use or 1 area disable -
So in order to counter thieves we must do all that ?
but still is not enough cause if thief is pistol /dagger we must have an very good condition removal and blinds as well.
So were is your point – if you want to counter an specific class build vs it.
If you want to be strong in zerg vs zerg build for zerg vs zerg.

doesnt this apply to countering every GC class/build? last time i checked i had to put just as much effort into avoiding war,ele, and mesmers.

Note: i am not targeting warriors, they are respective in their own way. just too much hate for thieves when other classes are just as effective…. culling is are biggest prob and gives us a bad rep, i believe once it is fixed BS GC’s will be laughable and only for the skilled.

so me killing a bunker guardian with over 3.3k armor with auto attack from S/D is fair hitting still over 4ks. hmm lol its not all about backstab guys really most people are just angry because of the rendering issues culling so on. once that gets fixed trust me you guys are in for it lol

Its just alot of people want an indication to when the steal backstab combo is going to happen because as of now its almost unavoidable some classes can break it some cant ive had my fair share of backstabbing people and i gotta say its hilarious they dont even see it comming but yea they never catch me eithier because to them your almost perma stealth comming in and out because of the rendering ^^

But imo that set D/D is like not my thing anymore im loving my S/D set up this thing even kills bunkers with no problem aslong as you dodge and stealth when u can you can come out of stealth with near full health everytime its so much fun ^^ Kill other thiefs just as easily pop haste and auto attack them to death lmao they die in like 2 seconds

was this guardian afk? S/D auto attack kill on a bunker guardian luaghs… i have a bunker guardian, no way in kitten thats possible unless they really suck at thier class and i mean really suck… assuming yur running GC with 4k hits on an auto attack, he wuld have out lasted you.

Some of the cases can be applied to BS and HS

i dnt complian about warriors or any other class for that matter and this isnt a hit agianst them.. me comparing is only to state aside from the culling issues we are not as OP as ppl make us out to be.

i logged in just to call the OP out on his troll post…. seriously kittens me off when ppl do this… there is nothing OPness about the CnD precast so why would they have to fix it? its an opener and or used to get away and can only be done when steal is off CD 45s or 35s if traited…. -_-

note: it takes skill to use it effectively… my guess is you got owned by a good thief. QQ
