Bosses are currently broken because there are many skills that require a target and can’t crit the boss. For example, mesmer illusions cannot crit at all which is a huge loss of damage. It doesn’t matter how difficult or easy the bosses are now.
Only cleaving and aoe are able to crit with positioning. Targeted skills don’t crit at all.
This forum is not what is used to be: a really, really helpful place where people showed the awesome things you could achieve with the class. Right now this forum is just people telling other people how the class should be and how you are supposed to play it.
What about someone that bought this game at the special discounts that happened regularly all through this year? Remember, they didn’t get anything you menationed.
That’s called “life”. It happens. Sometimes a person comes along at a later date and it just simply isn’t possible to have all the stuff people who came before them did.
Do you realize this same argument contradicts what the OP says?
You are ignoring the fact that we payed for all those things when we bought the original game and every time we bought and spent gems on the gem store or the exchange to support this awesome game. You’re basically telling us to avoid buying gems to support the game because we are going to get charged retroactively anyway.
A new customer buying HoT will receive GW2 for free, thus GW2 has no value and is worth $0 to them.
An existing customer buying HoT will not receive another GW2 account, since it does not exist it is worthless and thus also worth $0.
You say to-mah-to, I say SHAZBOT.
By that logic every gift you have ever received is worthless. And all the things you don’t get are worthless too.
Thank you Anet. This brings tears to my eyes
Zerker is better as long as you don’t care about being one shot by backstabbing thieves.
No
it doesn’t.
Does the Riding Broom work in WvW?
Anyone counted how many of YES and NO did the poll get?
YES.
Scepter auto attack is too weak right now. The balance problems are in the cake. Not in the icing. Mesmer will still be too strong in some game modes and too weak on others.
Acting like a clone will only give you 1-2 seconds against bad players…and if they’re bad players the fight shouldn’t be tight.
Could you explain why only bad players?
Actually acting like a clone can give you 1 or 2 seconds that may make a difference in tight fights (if no one moves like the real mesmer then the enemy needs to target the clones to check for buffs). It’s best when you use a staff: just stand there and autoattack. Because the attack takes time to reach the target it’s not as noticeable where it comes from and how fast you’re casting it. But anyway it’s not really something you want to be using often. In my opinion, an improvement to the class would be for the clones to copy all the boons (also sigils, mantra charges, food, bloodlust and possibly conditions) of the mesmer on creation.
It doesn’t matter how slow you want to level. The experience will be awful either way. You’ll be doing incredibly low damage and have little to no utility for about 40 levels, then you’ll be doing quite low damage and still have little to no utility for another 20 levels, and you’ll finally have some damage and more normal utility for the last 20 levels.
It sucks. It doesn’t matter how slow you’re willing to go with it.
Well, there are people saying it’s horrible and there are people saying it’s fine. I guess leveling a mesmer varies greatly with the skills/weapons you use and how you play it. I personally had a lot more fun leveling my mesmer than my warrior. If your definition of fun is efficiency/high dps, then please read the OP again.
Just make sure you use a focus for swiftness and blink so you don’t get too far behind. And follow whatever the rest of the people are doing.
1. Go to EOTM.
2. Follow the commander.
3. Try not to fall asleep.
4. Ding! you leveled up.
Wow, you could at least read the OP before calling people ignorant. He doesn’t care about mesmer being weaker than other classes, he just wants to have fun while leveling. And for that, mesmer is fine in PVE. You can level a mesmer completely solo with no problems at all. And it’s a lot more fun/less boring than leveling other classes. Nobody is saying the class doesn’t need to be fixed.
Keep in mind your illusions benefit from toughness and not from vitality.
If you don’t care about how fast you want to level and just enjoy the ride, mesmer is fine. There is nothing too difficult for any class in PVE, especially in open world and when you are playing with others. Also mesmer, unlike other classes, is a fun class to play. Now, if you want to level as fast as possible, that’s another story.
Need a video showing this build in action!
Are there any videos of The Zergmower in action?
It just got one shot again in two different overflows. Even when asking mesmers not to use feedback. Sometimes shooting the projectiles is the first thing the wurm does and no one can tag it to get credit.
Just because osicat posted this build people go out of their mind cause; ‘’wew, osi made a new build, wew so op!’’
I gave arguments why it doesnt work. All of them listed above aren’t personal issues. Can people please start learn to read and then comment?
Saying people like the build only because Osi made it is a personal criticism. Also asking people to learn to read.

Hey if something doesn’t work for you with this build then change it to fit your style or simply don’t use it. There is no need to criticize the people who like it.
Not being able to chase doesn’t make a build trollish.
If you are going for condition damage stick with a condition damage sword. If, for example, you use a zerker sword and swap to it during combat you will lose damage on all the conditions you previously applied with your alternate weapons and are still ticking.
I wish Anet described the problem with Portal. I’m not sure the developers are getting it after seeing the way they “fixed” it.
Just use runes of the Sunless + mass invis. Make them run away screaming when they can’t see us :-)
Phantasms bleed on crit, no need to get to their target before attacking (so it’s more reliable and has higher survivability). Magic bullet is a nice cc and less telegraphed than into the void. Can be traited for 1200 range (less walking and more pew pew).
Last but not least i really think the game designers don’t rub their hands in anticipation for the next Mesmer nerf. And after they pushed a nerf through, i don’t imagine them laughing hysterically and plotting the next thing against us.
They just giggle. Hysterical laughter takes too much resources.
…
We’re just going in circles at this point and it’s getting exhausting as you keep trying to put words in my mouth in an attempt to make a point. We were talking about roaming, I mentioned that earlier on. So yes, small groups or solo. That’s what people seem to need PU for after all.
And yes, I am being condescending and critical, I’m glad you’re understanding how I view the PU players. Read my post history if you need a refresher. Honestly, the fact that people are so defensive over a single build is proof enough that it has become a crutch.
Yeah there is no point in discussing if you just ignore the parts you don’t like. For example the part I said about criticizing PU is no better than saying “glassy builds are lame because you just burst people down before they can actually fight”.
I’m not defending any build in particular. I’m criticizing the trash talk by some “superior” players towards people using a build they don’t like and then even presenting themselves as victims.
…
Never said PU was OP. Go through my post history.
I’m not here to say if PU is OP or not, ‘cause I really don’t care about that. I just think that it’s a crutch build due to how brainless it is. That’s all.
And I deal with BS thieves by dodging, evading with BF, or stealth. Generally they’re dead before they get the chance.
AoE doesn’t bother my illusions since I fight up close and personal to make use of Illusionary Persona. I don’t try and shatter clones from 1200 range like you seem to assume I have to. It’s called lining them up properly.
With conditions I wait them out honestly, since I rarely get hit in the first place. I don’t run condi removal in my roaming set ups. (Decoy, blink, portal) My entire survival is based on proper positioning and evades.
Also I run Sw/T & GS, full zerker. As I said, traits are 10/20/10/0/30.Anything else?
Playing the same way for a year you kinda get good at what you do.
AOE killing illusions has nothing to to with how far you are from your target. It happens when there is a lot of AOE (or damage in general) going on near your target. I guess you only roam and fight where there is low enemy numbers. With larger numbers it is a problem, especially if you are glass.
So your problem is really a glassy vs tanky builds. And you’re attacking the people that use PU because you hate tankier builds and PU is the most tanky trait we have. I respect and use both styles and I think both have advantages and disadvantages and how good they do also depends on the situation not only on how skillful you are. It’s very arrogant to criticize other people for not playing the way you want. This is no better than when people say glassy builds are lame because you’re just bursting people down before they can react and actually fight you.

Please show us this more viable builds you are talking about instead of criticizing PU and the people that use it.
So all those players that used other builds before the PU buff are not using PU now because their old builds are viable and more fun right?
The builds I use, all for wvw roaming either solo or in small groups:
(edited)
Also I have no idea what the second question you asked meant. If you’re asking if players don’t use PU then yes, shockingly enough, we exist. Also all of the above mentioned builds have been used to beat PU mesmers in wvw while roaming, so either I’m just really amazing or I’m right to be critical of people who haven’t bothered to fully learn the class beyond PU.
Hint: It’s both
Feel free to try them out, I would love to have some better fights to look forward to.
The question is because you said this:
This is why PU is a crutch. Players do well with it, think it’s because they’re a good mesmer so they try something else and fail. “Well PU is our only viable option.”
You are saying that players who see other builds not viable and use PU are all bad players that don’t have skill to play other builds. Why are you assuming that? You are even implying that PU mesmers never play with non PU builds.
Also all of the above mentioned builds have been used to beat PU mesmers in wvw while roaming, so either I’m just really amazing or I’m right to be critical of people who haven’t bothered to fully learn the class beyond PU.
So your logic is “I beat PU mesmers” so “PU is OP and PU mesmers are bad players”. Very weird logic.
Also how are your “more viable builds” are actually more viable? What do you do when your illusions die to AOE so fast that you can’t use them? How do you deal with backstabbing thieves? How do you deal with conditions?
Remember thieves not only have blind to prevent you from casting a phantasm. They also have stealth. That’s why thieves like mesmers so much.
The problem isn’t that other builds aren’t more viable. It’s that other builds aren’t as easy as PU.
Please show us this more viable builds you are talking about instead of criticizing PU and the people that use it.

Maybe they are waiting for the bug to ripen so it becomes a buff when they fix it: “The skill now works as it should have since day one. Reduced damage and increase cooldown to compensate” :-)
Wow. The last time I checked this thread a few days ago, there were two replies. Now there’s a ton!
For me, it’s the latter that I respect this thread. Whether or not PU is OP doesn’t matter, what matters is that we have more diversity than just one playstyle. Theres a lot of different players here who all bring different experiences to the table, I think that if anyone could put their heads together and explore something new it’d be us. (New doesn’t have to be BETTER, but something thats as viable as PU)
Thank you Chaos. When I started the thread, I had no intention of it being “is PU OP or not?” I guess people just read the one thing I said about PU being OP and ignored the rest. I’m just tired of playing PU when I know there are so many viable options out there that can make me a better player, and I had intended for this thread to be about other methods of surviving while roaming, but alas, the community has to argue about balance.
Thanks to the few of you who started your posts with “@op”.
Added an edit to the op about this.
Actually according to your original post your sole motivation for searching for new builds is PU being OP (no one said you where asking if it was OP or not). I’m always more than happy to see new builds and play styles. Please lets find more! But don’t pretend this thread is just a “lets think of new builds” when it really is about “lets get away from PU”.
You say you know there are many viable options out there. I guess you don’t know them yet. Or if you do, please show them to us! And let the players use them because they like them. Not because PU is bad and they have to stop using it.

Where is it documented that illusions are unaffected by might?
That’s simply a conclusion you can draw from how illusions work.
Illusions don’t have their own base stats. They take a copy of your own stats, which is why they benefit from might on yourself, but not might on them. Additionally, they do have their own secondary stats, which is why they benefit from fury on them, but not fury on yourself.
Well then where is that behavior documented? I’m asking because I guess it’s difficult for a new player to somehow figure that out. For example the wiki says the illusions inherit some stats from the mesmer but it doesn’t say that primary stats can’t get modified by boons on the illusions.
(edited by Malakin.2809)
While I appreciate your in-depth testing, none of this is actually new. All of the info you’ve verified has been well-known for probably at least a year now.
Where is it documented that illusions are unaffected by might?
It’s unfair to present this as a “Gun vs Sword” argument as PU trades offense for defense and the analogy makes it seem it increases offense without losing anything. It’s actually more like a “Run naked with a gun” vs “Use a sword and a bulletproof vest” argument. The “Run naked with a gun” being the only respectable way to play for some people.

You should also remember when other builds weren’t nerfed and should also remember people complaining about shatter for being OP.
(edited by Malakin.2809)
The players that this build has spawned embarrass me, and I find no guilt in putting them in their place in wvw.
What do you mean by “putting them in their place in wvw”?
Yeah, stop whining about PU unless you are a backstabbing thief that can no longer get as many easy kills as before.
(edited by Malakin.2809)
Lets keep complaining about PU and forget the nerfs to all the other builds. Hopefully soon we’ll be totally nerfed.
1. Mesmer
2. Ranger
3. Elementalist?
Maybe the OP is a thief that stole a mesmer account :-O
Mesmers are OP to anyone who can’t (or doesn’t want to) see all the weaknesses the class has.
IMHO the illusion leap should work the same as the warrior’s Savage Leap. No path required (which means it could be used to get to an enemy unreachable by walking, but also that the illusion would not be able to “leap” around corners).

Feel free to try them out, I would love to have some better fights to look forward to.
