OP:
You can tell which mesmer is the real one if you simply look over their head. The one with the red hook-like object above it’s head is the real one. I don’t know if you have it disabled or what, but it always makes stomping mesmers very simple.
Same thing with me for the Air gem. I can see it in my character select screen, but not in game. I’ve tried relogging, closing the game, swapping helms, toggling, nothing.
Disappointing. ):
Before I hit 80, I probably would have gone with 1. Now that I’m in the Ruins of Orr with full 80 gear, defensive abilities, cantrips, and it’s a struggle for survival if I get two enemies that look at me funny, it’s definitely a 3.
I really hope Anet at least acknowledges we need something. =/ I have so much fun on my ele, but it’s such a gold sink trying to do anything (especially story quests) when I die so incredibly often.
Not sure if it’s been said, but when a scepter is in your main hand, very frequently when using lighting #1 it gets bugged where we’re stuck in the casting animation, and the lightning keeps stretching to the downed enemy and eventually just flares out of your fingertips while you’re hunched in that position if you walk far enough away.
It’s incredibly annoying, as it doesn’t stop until you use another spell and frequently have to switch stances just to stop the animation.
It also less rarely happens with the earth #1 (scepter).
Not sure why, but it seems to happen more frequently while wielding a scepter.
Yep same here, I run s/d and switch into air to run faster when moving from place to place, and about half the time I strike a random deer. It’s quite frustrating.
Personally, I think elementalists are generally fine in PVE. Am I weaker than other classes? Yes, but I make up for that with superior kiting abilities others might not have.
The main problem is in sPvP, and the fact I see so many people saying “lol l2p, I’m great and destroy at ele with my d/d and I don’t need buffs” tells me they’re either delusional, fighting extremely stupid players, or traveling exclusively with a large pack.
I pride myself as a pretty good player, and when I’m on my ele doing spvp or tournaments, I have pretty good survivability. I spec into earth and cantrips and can kite someone for a fairly long time and it’s not so bad.
The problem is, I can’t do any damage. Our spells simply do not touch those of other classes, and the fact that we’re effectively as squishy as a thief means to me we should be doing at least close to the damage of one, but that isn’t the case.
Elementalists definitely need to be looked at extensively and made so our damage is at least up to par. To those who speak of the legendary elementalists in pvp, or claim to be themselves: It’s kind of like believing in a flying unicorn. It’s comforting, but I’d like some proof.
I have the opposite problem. I tend to lock on random targets further away than what I’m actually fighting (without ever using the tab key). This has killed me many times in PvP.
This. I don’t pvp, but during champion boss fights I tend to make things interesting by unintentionally aggroing any and all nearby wildlife during the duration of said fight. On the flip-side, bonus xp.
Same thing happens here. I’ll have to take a more indepth look at my views, because I keybind and don’t keyboard turn. It sucks being locked on and kiting someone, and then just randomly pulling extra things as an elementalist. ): Normally means death to squishy.
I use a main hand scepter, and for my lightning ability channel (the 1 button), it occasionally gets stuck where the lightning stretches back to a dead enemy, and I get stuck in the channeling position with lightning flaring out until I use another move. It happens less frequently, but also with the 1 button scepter earth attack, also another channeled shooting attack.
Sorry if it’s been said already, but it is quite annoying sometimes! Thanks!
Because then it would make the guild wars community be quite upset that an element of WoW got added in to their game! :P
But in all seriousness, it would be a great addition.
I guess what I would say is a) take advantage of your superior gear in WvW and have some fun there and conquer your class and all of it’s abilities/weapon combinations, and b) realize you’re in an upper tier of players who have already completed everything quite quickly (in about three weeks) since the game’s release. My ele is 68 or so, and I’m taking everything slowly and enjoying it greatly.
I think Anet is waiting for the masses to get to your point come out with content, so everyone starts at a fair playing field and not having to rush through their later levels to get to it.
Side note: have you tried the jumping puzzles yet? and maybe try another character! (:
Thanks for the WvW tips! Now to find a Mesmer friend ^^
I must say, I got all happy thinking this was a thread dealing with Elementalists in sPvP. ):
And yes, not to mention that the downed entanglement doesn’t even actually entangle them half the time. Sometimes they just continue walking towards my corpse with the earth churning at their feet. -.-
I feel your pain.
I tried the whole d/d(too close range) and staff(too slow and aoe oriented) routine, but the one I found was best was scepter/dagger as far as pve, purely for the blinds. They’re lifesavers while your endurance regens if you come to an end of your kiting routine. It has decent damage and is really the one I found to be the most survivable as well, with the earth shield. I’m also fully traited into Earth and Fire, with a bit in Air. I found full Earth trait, as well as switching to it more often than the other aspects, to really be the only way to survive well enough. With this, I don’t find myself in too much danger, unless I get unlucky or sloppy.
Frankly, I’m just really disappointed in the profession I chose. It’s extremely fun switching between all of the elements and having to strive to survive, but I was really hoping to be able to do massive damage, not be the jack of all trades master of none support role I’ve always been in all other MMOs. It’s just really disheartening when I tourney on my warrior and our team just laughs and celebrates when they see an ele on the opposing team. =/
Hmm well I don’t think the Elementalist is nearly as bad as some of you seem to suggest.
I have my Elementalist at level 80 with relatively few problems. Yes, I would say Elementalist is a bit more involved than other classes (I consider this a good thing) for comparable results. I would say my biggest issue with Elementalist is that I deal similar damage to many other classes while being WAY squishier. I am going to guess that the intention behind this is that an Elementalist can kite (and has many abilities to do so) whereas other tougher classes cannot. I can pretty much take down any mob or group of mobs if they are melee. Only ranged abilities and mobs give me any real trouble (and that’s what you use utility skills for).
Elementalist advantages:
-My AoE ability is not only large and ranged, it is second to none. No other class deals as much AoE damage (and there are many, many mob groups in this game).
-My AoE kiting abilities are, also, second to none. While there are other classes who can kite a single mob much better, no class can kite an entire, large group better.
-Lots of utility survivability options and self-heal options (combine things like Water Adept Major Trait Soothing Disruption with Cantrips like Armor of Earth to gain a serious edge in survival).
-The most versatile of the classes with good damage, good healing, and great CC, almost all mostly accessible at will.
Elementalist Disadvantages:
-Single target damage output is either directly on par or less than other classes yet we are significantly more squishy (again I assume this is intended and based on our ability to kite or burst[with non-staff setups]).
-Doing significant single-target damage typically requires stacking everything you have onto that mob. (I assume this mechanic is based off of the fact that we have 25 abilities available to use in combat whereas most classes have 15)
-Underwater Elementalist is severely disadvantaged with poorer kiting options and reduced damage. Kiting underwater and still dealing viable damage is a near impossibility, but you still remain very squishy (also Water, our healing attunement, seems to deal the most damage underwater? Intentional?).
In fact, I would have to say with the exception of underwater gameplay (really dislike underwater Elementalist), the Elementalist is pretty solid and could probably use a few minor tweaks and buffs.
PvP, however, really is an entirely different story. I feel like in PvP you have to work twice as hard to be half as effective as many other classes. I don’t mind working harder, but I would like to be at similar strength to other classes and I do feel that the Elementalist is currently lacking in that respect.
You’re clueless too. you have 4 elements, giving you 20 spells A WEAPON! . Thats 4x more options a weapon. add weapon swap into it and you have SO MUCH you can do. And your damage CAN be on par. But without posting your builds, what you are using, and letting us show you how to be an effective el, you are really just talking out of your own noob circumstance.
sooo this entire thread is stupid
You realize that elementalists don’t have a weapon swap, right? There isn’t some secondary weapon set we can switch to during combat with the click of a button. Have you played an elementalist at all?
