Well, maybe i felt a little sentimental as i removed that little GW2 icon, i had such high hopes as i bought that collector’s edition years ago. I was sure that the narrow FOV was just a release thing – they will fix that 100%, no deal. Don’t get me wrong, my hopes were all fulfilled (except for the FOV, those FOV responses from Anet still leave me puzzled)
I thought, maybe i should start a last thread about the FOV issue, maybe make it sound more personal than all those objective FOV-Threads that failed. To be honest i didn’t expect such a “kitten you and just leave” mentality from the forum, but so be it…
I mean, i don’t want a mount or a dueling function. lol, i just wanted to be able to play the game without being dizzy after 30 min, which i am since the third party tool stopped working.
…EVERY recent mmorpg community complains about related issues, not sure what to make of this)
It’s because recent developers tend to ignore that pc games need a horizontal FOV of 85-110° instead of a console FOV because they sit nearer to the screen than console players. In more detail: the horizontal FOV should ideally exactly match the degrees of your vision that the screen is occupying, and thats ~90 for pc and ~60 for consoles (couch ‘n’ TV).
Hmm, agree, i should have emphasized on the FOV-issue thats a game breaker for me rather than me leaving the game, sry guys.
Does no one else get dizzy from that FOV? Or are you sitting 2m away from the screen? (distance where the FOV would be adequate)
Of course! i just wanted to
hear some opinions on these issues that made me quit
Hi,
I stopped playing GW2 because of an update 3 months ago or so. Just wanted to give some reasons and hear some opinions on these issues that made me quit:
1. FOV:
Said update broke the GW2 camera tool support [http://www.wsgf.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=24764]. I am aware that this is a third party tool, but i just could not stand the narrow FOV, so i risked using it. Without it, the game is simply UNPLAYABLE for me. (pls don’t reply about cheating/balance of fov tools: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/FOV-on-3-monitors-Demonstration)
2. PVP Modes:
I always hoped to get some more PvP modes. While i played mainly PvP (bear rank) and had fun in every battle, i always disliked the mode: capturing points. I understand that balancing becomes a big issue if more PvP modes are introduced. WvW was too messy for me, just not my taste, so no critic there. (BTW, why is this game named Guild Wars when there are actually no guild wars?)
3. Combat:
Combat was very fun at the Beginning, but as a big share of the player-base mastered most classes the combat felt more like a combo chain spam than tactical combat. Not that i couldn’t keep up with the average foe but i just didn’t feel like I’m having control anymore with all those conditions and combo fields procing at that massive rate. But i accept if most people don’t share this view, it also wasn’t game breaking for me like the FOV.
So that’s it, i logged in occasionally every 2 weeks to see if an update somehow made the fov-tool work again. If the FOV stays at that crap console value (60-70 horizontal at 16:9) i just can’t see my coming back.
Thanks for you time, i had a blast with this game.
Mantra of pain: increase the output damage (40s+ CD)
would be used in shatter builds and nerfed after the first patch
-also the 2.75 s cast time make them still unappealing, at the beginning the cast time of mantras was 4s or smth, now we are at 2,75. This still long cast time is very likely to be interrupted so you should cast it from stealth. However,
First: phantasms are the best thing to cast from stealth since they don’t break it
Second: you have no stealth utility in the first place when you play a full mantra mesmer and torch sucks
another problem is that matras can be seen by enemy players and the mesmer is easier to spot
i think it is comparable with the grenades from the engineer, either you pull your traits to be a full grenade spec, or they aren’t worth it, at least they give you a bad feeling since you haven’t maxed their potential.
MY SUGGESTION: Remove the Mantra traits for 3 times cast and 4% dmg and give mantras a reasonable buff to be used without those traits

Could you pm me a link to the program that allows you to change your FOV? The current FOV gives me headaches/
Why PM? share the fun:
http://www.wsgf.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=24764&sid=484674e6e9e63f561fff8ed926fd3142
i use version 1.0 because it still works without a problem
Just add a stupid toggle… tweaking timing/mousemovement thresholds… how stubborn are you guys? The same kitten as with the FOV problematic. If it wasn’t for a third party FOV-tool to set my fov to 65(vert) i would have quit long ago.
You will just procrastinate and then say: no, we can’t because: look at all these reasons we imaginated
Don’t you get that this is a PC-game? Look at the Borderlands 2 Option menu:

I was testing the temporary fix as it was online, it was rather strange, they disabled the right click targeting of “enemy Players”. Targeting of minions/pets/clone or your allies with RightClick was still possible…
Anet, seriously… ? can you please release the source-part of the right click input handling. I am pretty confident that i can fix it

Be me, play GW1 for several years, anticipate GW2 and watch all godsend trailers of awsomeness. Preorder Collector’s Edition…
BWE1: Notice narrow FOV, unnecessary camera collisions with thinnest trees and strange target losing in heated battles
Play through 3 BWE while watching ANET not solving a single issue…
So here we are, ~1 year later. Costumers still need a adjustable FOV, a reasonable collison matrix layering and mouse configuration and yet we get more hats! yay.
If it wasn’t for a third party FOV tool WHICH I AM USING! i would have already stopped playing
ARENANET, i am deeply deeply disappointed. Disappointed in some way of F__K THAT, i should finally leave GW2 and their stubborn marketing thrive to satisfy the demands of the players that can’t even grasp the deep flaws of this game but are obvious for us forum prayers…
I want to point out again that I AM USING THIRD PARTY FOV ADJUSTMENT TOOLS that sets my vertical fov to 65 (=~110 horz. fov) which is the only reasonable way for my monitor setup
This is my list for GW2
Problem: RightClick Targeting toggle
cannot be bound to the game engine core (why would it), so arenanet is just being ignorant in this case
-unjustified imho
Problem: FieldOfView
has been addressed by increasing it a bit. But still i want a slider since it is a PC-GAME! where people sit in different distancesin front of the screen (just look at the borderlands 2 video options, this is the reference). The choice was justified by arenanet with: the game would run slow, fov would give an advantage and the like
-unjustified imho, additionaly it completely destroys the epic design of the game, wooow look at that epic floor tiles in rata sum, ingenious, wooow orr has some really kick kitten floor tiles, kitten the floor tiles of this epic skyscratching castle..u get the point
(and also it very disappointed, Arenanet)
Problem: no first person view
Design choice, if you character travels across the map it changes altitude very instantaneous (bumpy map & jumps). First person mode would look strange if they put in enough smoothing to compensate for that. FirstPersonSmoothing is a challenge of its own and if they would implement it they would want to make it look smooth including the camera shakes when running or hit(check this out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hu0v0kTWH7w)
GW1 had a first person mode which was never used but they didn’t had jumps back then
-somehow justified, i believe they know how few people used firstperson in GW1 but didn’t understand that GW1 was completely different. GW2 would benefit
Problem: glitchy camera mechanics near walls and on tall characters inside is another
Design choice, if they would allow the camera to go through walls (which is no real problem in terms of game engine) people could see through the bottomless maps and the game would look ugly
-partly justified, there is no real solution for this problem without allowing the camera to go through walls – which cannot be done since it would brake the visuals BUT!: They can kittenIN remove small trees and fences from the cameracollider
It just sucks that these problems are all there without a response from arenanet… YAY, wintersday and halloween but where the kitten is our rightclick-targeting-toggle. I don’t care about gay festivals as long as the core is broken
TL;DR:
ArenaNet, I am disappoint
(edited by Marrt.2498)
Why are they still ignoring this problem? So much pleasing talk ffrom the designers before release and yet they can’t even fix this stupid annoyance or introduce FOV-Sliders… ’the hell is wrong with developers these days?
This has to be fixed ASAP! all that festival crap while still main mechanics of the game are broken… I bought the collector’s edition of the game because i believed in it, and yet i got the tunnelvision FOV (without a sufficient justification other than: “our game was’t meant to be like that”) and no right click target disable… i am losing fate… does anet even play their game

I cant believe that this issue hasn’t been addressed yet. All the useless stuff added to the game lately while its core mechanics are still broken… (talking about fov and this)
Just add one little toggle to the game menu, this can’t be so hard to implement. I would go without all the festival crap and events for one year if you just use your resources to fix some of the major flaws in your game-core. Please let me finally enjoy gw2!
“We believe a large number of these cases are not FOV related but rather due to bugs in camera smoothing”
“The current FOV is going to stay because increasing it, while having some benefits for some players, has too many drawbacks.”
i didn’t expect such ignorance from Anet
Totalbiscuit: What a PC Options menu is supposed to look like
Some people understand.
thats exactly what i, without a doubt, expected from the GW2 menu, biggest delusion i ever had in my gaming life…
….. I might have a chat with my lawyer friend
When this is the only way to convince Anet to implement a camera that doesn’t totally suck, go for it. When people are able to return their game by court decision (because of the missing hint that it can cause health problems) you can count the seconds until the camera is fixed and a fov slider from 10 to 350 degree is added, lol.
…we tried every trick in the book…
the horizontal FOV can be increased by playing in windowed mode with a high aspect ratio (decrease the windows vertical extent). that helped me a little (~21:9 aspect ratio), but the viewing range sucks if you dont keep the camera angle flat to the ground
…then he WILL be negatively affected by your thread….
NO,
-FOV slider is an optional addition, you can leave it at 65
-camera smoothing is a toggle button, you can leave it on smooth
… the “problem” is on the graphic engine’s side….
professional or not, you cannot know what causes the camera inertia unless you see the code. It could also be an issue of a not frame-rate-independent camera smoothing algorithm. If it would be a engine limitation (which i highly doubt) the camera zoom (=camera position) change on wall hits would also be slow, yet they are instant
i cannot understand how anyone can be remotely fine with the current camera. I am constantly fighting the viewport and it never feels right
For all of those that have problems to understand the FOV issue, this video explains it flawlessly, so pls watch it before you claim that the FOV in GW2 is alright:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blZUao2jTGA
it shows why consoles have ~60 degree and pc games should have ~90 FOV (for third or first person perspectives)
please keep your feedback concise, constructive, and consolidated to this thread
7.) add FOV-Slider (at least up to 90 degree)
most important issue for me (see OP for reasons)
This FoV is an insult to the video game culture and to the gamers
Thats exactly what i think since the first 10s of BWE1
Bump,
the narrow FOV is the most important game breaking issue for me.
ANET if you don’t fix that i will have to stop playing this game i guess.
-I am currently playing windowed with an 21:9 aspect ratio and a very flat camera angle, I HATE IT!
