I just can’t believe that instead of looking at what Mesmer has and looking at what it needs, they just made a spec around the name Mirage.
Seriously not one person stopped for a second at any point in making it and went ‘What are we doing here’?
Of all the things to be upset about, you chose the name of the elite spec? The name literally does not matter.
So many people are blinded by their dislike for mirage that they’re spreading blatant misinformation about this skill. A lot of people are claiming that you must stay stationary in the oasis mirage in order to receive the passive healing.
You do not.
The mirage just marks the location where the mirage mirror will spawn. You can move freely anywhere and still receive healing. The healing buff stays on your buff bar even after leaving the original location.

Chrono isn’t geared towards conditions.
You don’t have to stand in the false oasis animation to be healed. That just marks the location the mirage mirror will spawn at. Moving away from the location does not stop the healing.
No damage

High squishiness
High efficiency against golemsMy excitement about the spec vanished as fast as barrier.
so much hyperbole in one post
The limitations of iDuelist are somewhat mitigated if you use Axe 3 and the new deception utility that retargets all illusions. As long as there aren’t a million mobs it should be relatively easy to keep phantasms up and switch targets.
I can not agree with this post even if I tried. Guardian is a class that actually gives up stuff unlike everyone else, and it is also a class stuck in 2012 unlike every other class.
Have you never seen a mesmer before or….?
Tomes are meant to be cooldowns, not something you just slip in and out of. You save them for those intense moments.
If that is true then tomes should be instantly available to me. As it stands now, by the time I summoned my tome “for those intense moments” – as you put it – I’m already dead.
Now I already predict you’re going to move the goalpost and claim that tomes are meant for pro-active play and thinking ahead so I’m going to nip this one in the butt before it even happens:
What is the point of pro-active healing or cleansing? You can’t heal/cleanse damage that hasn’t be done yet. And if the enemy pays attention and sees you switching to a tome pro-actively, don’t you think a smart enemy will just adjust and counter your choice of tome with whatever is needed to counter it? Because that’s what happened to me. Not to mention how frikkin often I got denied my Tome of Resolve or Tome of Courage by interrupts. Any player who pays even a bit of attention will know when you’re going to summon which tome and since the summoning of the tomes is so freakishly long it can very easily be interrupted. It’s just…. bad…
Also, why is guardian once again the only class that gets screwed over by sluggish design like this? Does necro shroud have a cast time and a long cooldown? No. Does the druid avatar have a long cast time and long cool down? No sir. Ho about soulbeast’s beastmode? Nope, works just fine. Engineer kits? Can just swap in- and out- of them, easy and quick. Yet the firebrand goes something like this: “Hurrrrrr durrrr lemme cast a freakishly long and extremely obviously telegraphed spell before I get access to my new class feature….”
It bad dude…
Instead of asking for the cooldown and cast time to be reduced we should ask for the tome skills to be more impactful.
The tome skills are already plenty impactful, buffing them further would make them too strong.
Tomes may function like Kits, but we are not meant to use them like Kits, they are essentially 3 bonus elite skills, just like our old tome elite skills were.
Says who?
Also, didn’t Anet remove the old tome elite skills precisely because they were slow, sluggish and broke up the flow of the guardian gameplay? Don’t answer, this is a rethorical question, I already know the answer. The answer is yes, yes they did.
Which makes me wonder, why would Anet think that this time the tomes would be more successful? The tomes are obviously going to have the same issues as before if you don’t change what made them a bad choice for your elite skill slot.Which brings me to the next point: choice.
With elite skills you have a choice. It’s only 1 skill and you can choose which one you want. But the firebrand as an entire profession is entirely build around the tomes. They are not optional. If I want to play firebrand, I ge the tomes whether I like it or not. That’s not the same at all as 1 elite skill. It’s not even the same as “3 elite skills” as you put it.
The cones on Mantra have to stay, otherwise what’s the point in Shouts? We can talk about widening the cone and increasing the range but the cone is a key aspect to the gameplay.
What was the point of shouts before PoF? What’s the point of shouts right now? There is no point because shouts on guardian haven’t been good outside of WvW for ages (and I’ve heard that even in WvW they’ve fallen out of favor).
So what you’re essentially are saying is because shouts are bad, mantras should be equally bad because otherwise nobody would use shouts…
Well I’ll tell you what, if they don’t make mantras less hilariously bad, nobody will use mantras either.
The charge up on Mantras is good, your’e not meant to burn through all charges in one go, you have to weave your skills and time them according to the situation, not spam use them all at once.
The final charge can be more impactfull so that flirt of going on long cooldown is more incising.I agree, but the numbers need to be tweaked. The mantras are just too sluggish and slow right now, especially considering how hilariously underwhelming the effects of the mantras are.
Also why do we need to be the masters of everything? That creates design chaos, if Firebrands are good are fire bombing then let them be good at fire bombing, use DragonHunter if you want more support.
Hello, ever heard of condi druids? Ever heard of condi PS berserkers? Ever heard of elementalists?
Also, using dragonhunter for support… what? Since when is DH a support class? DH was always designed to be the more selfish damage-dealer spec of the guardian, as Anet said themselves. Firebrand was supposed to be the supportive spec while also dealing solid condition damage, which was also said by Anet.
So far, Anet did merely a passable job on making DH the selfish damage dealer, and did a horrible job on making FB a supportive condi spec…
Guardian is only in a “good spot” so far as that guardian is viable in every game mode and nobody will hate you for bringing a guardian to the group, but I feel like that’s going to change with FB. People are either going to keep playing their DH or not play guardian at all in PoF, which is a real shame.
you should calm down
At least it’s not as bad as the new ele weaver thing…
Wait the weaver was bad? I thought ele’s were really happy with it
Every profession subforum is whining right now even about the tiniest things.
You’re not forced to use a sword with weaver
No I also love firebrand’s themes and playstyle.
So you can’t walk around with maximum shields all the time by spamming abilities
The new elite specializations are specializations, not standalone professions. You need to reach level 80 and spend hero points in the Druid training line as a Ranger in order to play as a Druid.
Having two mesmers should be fine because of the mass quickness you can provide through time warp. Some guilds posted on reddit with their winning compositions and a few had two mesmers. Having three or more mesmers probably isn’t worth it though because two mesmers can generally keep alacrity permanently up and mesmer DPS is not the highest.
Blocking doesn’t inflict blind enemies, it just prevents them from damaging you. Ineptitude won’t work for blocks then since you don’t blind enemies.
Edit: Oops didn’t know ineptitude worked that way!

There’s an option in settings to scale up the UI. I use 1920 × 1080 and scale up the UI to large/extra large so that my chat box and other UI items aren’t tiny.
As stated above, alacrity is a buff, not a boon. The only way to increase its duration is to take the major Chronomancer trait.
1. Berserker refers to the combination of stats on your items. Each item set at 80 has 3/4 different stats in different combinations. Berserker is preferred by many people because it provides power, precision, and ferocity for high dps without regards to conditions.
2. Purchasing gear can get a bit expensive if you do it all the time so I suggest you start crafting items. Since you’re a Revenant, you probably want to start with armorsmithing and weaponsmithing so that you can make your own weapons and armor. Eventually, you’ll want to max these crafting skills out so you can make ascended items, the tier of items above exotics. If you need a lot of gear in the short term, farming for gold and buying armor of the trading post is probably your best bet until you can make your own.
The thing about mesmers is that traits are almost essential so the leveling process isn’t as kind as it is for other classes. Your main source of damage should not be shatters (your F1-4) skills but rather through phantasms so try to keep three illusions up and attacking the enemy at all times. A recent update also greatly improved the survivability of phantasms and clones.
Besides berserker stats, what combo would increase defense the best and still maintain reasonable offense? I feel too much like a glass cannon in full berserker gear.
The forums are full of uninformed people trying to influence devs.
Hey Chaos Archangel I hope you don’t mind that I linked to this post in reddit to increase the visibility of this thread.

The Mesmer for example, the most recent OP class, has huge amounts of access to confusion after the specializations patch. For the condition builds I’ve fought mesmers who apply 10+ stacks of confusion and 6+ Torment in a couple seconds and can do it again and again with nearly no downtime. Fights with a condition mesmer is almost an impossible fight even with a high amount of cleanse just because they have such large amounts of application in short amount of time and on short cooldowns.
Isn’t that what mesmers do? Confusion?
Elementalists burn, freeze, and blow wind up your ……, other classes shoot arrows, hit you with swords etc.
Seems to me that you are you asking for mesmers to be removed from the game? Maybe because you need that old chesnut “learn to play against them”Just like Mr Aidenwolf Sir has said: adjust your playstyle.
Because people like me just love to throw 10 stacks of “confuse your face in” and then just stand there and watch you beat yourself to death while I sit at my keyboard laughing and laughing at your misfortune. I mean, seriously, how hard is it to see that triple rainbow shooting out of your head every time confusion ticks?Sorry to appear to be so blunt but that is the way it is. Get your face smashed in, learn what happened and why, then alter how you play to try and shut that nasty little mesmer down. (which being a mesmer main for 3 years, i know it is possible to put me on my a..e with a few well timed spells of your own)
P.S. It’s about time mesmers WERE able to do this, so no, they don’t need anymore nerfs, thank you.
I can say the same thing about Thieves and Stealth. Isn’t stealth and backstab what Thieves do? Well guess who got the nerf bat several times and continues to so that stealth is no longer a working meta with Thieves? Seemed like to me all the crying about Thieves and stealth was “asking for” Thieves to be removed from the game. And since they cannot remove a whole class we are all being nerfed and forced into ballerina dodges with now 2 useless trait lines.
Mezmers are known as being straight up OP at the movement. A re balancing to there game play is in great need. I don’t know if it is in the area of confusion or not as they have many OP skills. So before you go saying “learn to play against them” I could have said the same thing thing when many people where crying about thieves. Now they are the most broken +1 classes in the game. Please get off your imaginary high horse.
I’m going to assume with that response that you didn’t even bother to read the link I posted earlier. I’ll be more receptive to getting off my high horse if you actually give informed reasons as to why mesmers are op instead of giving broad generalizations.
It’s also not surprising that with all the cries of “mesmer op op plz nerf” that every esports team runs 4-5 mesmers in pvp games….. Oh wait, they don’t. I don’t understand why people think devs will balance classes around baseless complaints as opposed to informed complaints backed up with stats and evidence. Do you really think the devs have no understanding at all of classes?
(edited by Mastamaker.2957)
For people crying for mesmer nerfs, please view this post and get your facts straight.
The original post needs to be stickied on the front page but still, players will probably post “mesmer op plz nerf” threads.
To players who call Mesmers OP – When HoT and Chronomancer are released, players will undoubtedly scream for the crucifixion of Mesmers. But keep in mind that the Chronomancer and the Mesmer are two different entities. Just because you get steamrolled by a Chronomancer once in a duel does not mean that Mesmers are OP. If you haven’t faced a bunch of them and don’t know their mechanics, L2P instead of complaining the instant you lose a match. Rather than cry for Mesmer nerfs, please instead either gain more experience of suggest tweaks to Chronomancer since so many Chronomancer traits seem to be strict upgrades for the base class.
Furthermore, playing a Mesmer for a few weeks against other classes in any game mode does NOT make you an expert in the Mesmer class. Virtually in every “mesmer op” thread have there been veteran Mesmers who actually do have significant experience in the class. Perhaps you should direct informed questions towards them rather than rant on forums.
I really think that all of the above is common sense and that it’s silly for me to have to type this all out but before anyone cries for Mesmer nerfs, read the original post in its entirety. Everything Chaos Archangel has written is beautifully laid out and explained.

Which condition should I be focused on primarily applying? Bleeds, confusion, or torment?
The great jungle worm event in Caledon Forest is missing its textures. The worm appeared a smooth blue/green. Multiple people in the event confirmed seeing the same thing.
I heard somewhere that i should go full assassin armor but run berserker weapons. Is this the optimal set?
What weapon set do you suggest for leveling?
How hard/punishing is it to solo level Thief in PVE?
How is leveling in PVE for Elementalists? Is it hard being the squishiest profession?
So Mesmer’s are wanted? I just hit 80 with one and am deciding if I want to level another profession to main.
What are the most desired classes in open world PVE and in dungeons? Every individual profession forum except for Elementalist seems to think that its profession is terrible.
I know sword is the go-to weapon but since Mesmers are so squishy, what’s the best way to use the weapon? In dungeons I always find going into melee to attack with swords allows enemies to destroy me.
