@Lumines – Am sorry, “Soldier build” got me mixed up. But then… dying as a guardian against such a thief is even more sad – no hard feeling intended. I’m just saying we all know guardian with soldiers amulet has around 20k hp, and backstab with signed + steal does 13-14k to you at maximum. So you still got 6k hp to smash his face. Which guardian usually does against power based thiefs.
If its 1 ticket for entry – the rewards should be 1 ticket for 3rd, 4th place. Otherwise there is no “risk”, as the blog stated.
Ever heard of endure pain? Stun breakers? Or knights amulet? Or shield stance, counter blow – and goes on, and goes on…
You could have asked – that you need help to learn dealing with thiefes and learning2p. But no, u just had to whine it.

Most of you got to understand – the balance is not about you casual PvP-ers with twentish hours of PvP under their belt. Its all about high-level tournament play – where there are no issues of bad play or unexperienced players. Random arena is never meant to be competitive or defining the PvP of the game. Learn to live with it.
And this last patch dealt with skills that were never an issue in top tournament play, so Im thinking it was the knee jerk nerfs, that the mass audience wanted to hear. And this is getting frustrating, because I have such a high expectations for this game, to become a real name on the competitive scene and I have invested more than 200 hours of PvP now and countless hours of theory crafting and stream observation – just to become a better player and my team – a better team. I wish this game doesn’t get zerged over by the wow fanboys and my time wasted.
In future, I hope ANet picks quality over quantity when considering further balance changes.

Actually – you failed at the 3rd guardian, no need to read further.
Downed state is purely a PvP mechanic – and a good one too. However the damage output from some downed classes was too punishing before the patch. Now its hue-hue
Why do you complain – u get a phantasm every 10 sec with weapon swapping. Or you didn’t knew that?
Mesmers needed a survivability nerf, not a dmg one. I hope ANet makes sure that the ones responsible for the last patch should do at least 40 hours of sPvP this month for punishment of incompetence.
Boosting downed state damage is one step too far in the wrong direction.
@Merciless – yes, 2 guardians can make a point not accessible for the enemy team. But they are so… static. U completely lose half the flexibility, and will fall to any good and organized team – because conquest is won with movement. period.
I do think the balance of the game is great, all I’m saying is “it could be a bit better”.
Kalar Meadia – what you said works just the same against any other class on enemy trebuchet. That is the exact tactic we do – however, when a mesmer decides to repair a treb – its done as twice as fast compared to others. This is a minor advantage – but still an advantage that you just have to utilize.
As most of you observed, players skill in tournaments vary a lot. So does the depth of understanding the mechanics, skills and general possibilities of different classes and builds. That is why most of the random rant in the forums is largely ignoreable. I am rank 31, and while its not much – its mainly gained in tournaments – playing along with a dedicated competitive team, so my pvp experience is at least – above average.
Now for the minor issues mentioned above:
Mesmer – he looks great at 1v1 against any other class, which is making him by far the best 1v1 class, but he falls behind in overall damage. All of this is great, but however I feel that his base HP pool is needlessly large.
Necro – some defense boost will make glass builds at least partly viable, and his tanky builds will rival with guardians, eles and warrs.
Battle of Kyhlo – sigh..
Teleporting through walls inside clocktower. Mesmers with portal on trebuchet and staff ele on enemy treb is a viable tactic – in fact, so viable that everybody has to do it. Most of the good teams play almost the same gimmick builds, which is ruining the diversity of the meta game. I predict that this will become an issue when paid tourneys arrive and half the teams play the same builds there. Exactly this issue was the “last nail” in gw1pvp’s coffin.
For portal I suggest – maximum range implemented between portals, and lower cd. For staff ele – I suggest that treb should be 50% more resistant to AoE damage.
Downed state – Downed state is a great pvp mechanic! This game has much damage and no consistent mitigation, so this state is a natural counter to spike and also brings more depth and tactic inside a large team fight. However in smaller fights, like 1v2, 2v2 the downed players damage is unnecessarily punishing – I even feel some classes are more dangerous when downed.
Suggestion – damage of pets, minions, phantasms and players while downed to be reduced – hard.
Free tournaments – preparation time reduced to 2:30 mins.
Some issues may need a further explanation, since things need to be observed to be better understood.

I was thinking more S/D with arcane blast & wave. And it does come 3rd. Engi comes 4th along with shatter mesmer. The rest got no real “burst”.
Yes, thieves atm has the most burst and damage. Warriors falls only a bit below, but are much more tankier. Eles go third, but are much more versatile.
Guardians defensive capabilities falls behind warriors, but they got more reliable point control. Engis has almost the same point control as guardians and usually lack some of defense for more hurt.
Mesmers are the best 1v1 class at the moment, but low and unreliable damage for 4v4, 5v5 battles compared to other classes. Second comes thief and ranger – thieves usually pwnd by tankier classes, which rangers own – and vice versa with the glass cannons.
Theres pros and cons for everyone, and not a single overpowered class at the moment. Just necro needs a bit boost. And also – l2p.
Bleeding out is not that slow and keeps you in battle for way too long to be good. Ofc this is the first tactic we applied in competitive sPvP and its not that great against half a decent team. However, we always stomp (when possible) at :18, :38, :58 or so which proved a lot more effective.
I still say that downed state is nice and the only issue is the dmg output when downed. Make pets, summons, phantasms and player dmg 66% lower and everything will be just fine.
Yes, you are right of course. This is no depth or skill, this is just busywork.
As it seems, some players really like this map. And much more truly resent it.

Well… when I win my 1v1 with more than 90% hp left, I do say “easy” when I stomp. I guess I am a jerk
Nope, Im not doing it wrong. And Im excluding utility skills, because my point is weapon skills for guardian sucks. I am not having trouble killing a single or two mobs at the same time. I am having a trouble fighting a mob five times longer than any other profession. And that is just dull.
As I said – trident skills are nice – they heal, they sink, they burn – and u can combine 4 of them to get a really nice combo – which will do about half the damage of warriors single skill. Enough?
I actually played with all the professions – mainly in pvp, where I was able to test underwater skills at lvl 80 with all proffesions. Now.. I should remind that I have not built for underwater, I even do not take it in consideration when I make my builds. But no matter what profession u pick, even if u dont know the skills underwater – just random mashing of buttons can easily get you as high as twice the dps of a guardian.
Just keep on using blink – at the end, u will learn to use it before their third pistol whip.
No need for nullfield – when blink is on cd, use #2 from sword for survival.
I invest 1 utility in teleport skill where available, or insta condition and stun removal where not. Not only does that save you from PW spam, but also from Charge warrs. Only thing is – u just gotta be fast with it, couse pain is coming soon.
Nametag color is enough to tell friend from foe.

I hope Anet doesn’t take that post serious. This game is all about little details – the right skill to dodge, the right time to engage, the inch farther u teleport. Everything counts here, and in the end – a whole lot of little details makes all the big difference. You are 6 clicks away to give urself a movement boon and instead of learning it – u complain about it. Just give up on pvp if thats the case.
And of course I should be able to put a condition removal in my build if they keep sending the same necro for 1v1…
It takes no more than 6-7 secs to stomp any class – even with no stability. However the problem is mes phantasms, ranger pets, necro minions, war pure wtf dmg, thief sigils proppin’ and any other kitten, making over 9000 dmg for those precious 6 seconds.

Yes jimmy, I do believe you. You can be sneaky, tactical and very mature – by capping the ruins and hodling them by yourself. You and the sharks can whack and smack any 1 or 2 opponents dumm enough to come nearby, while the “surface” zergs trade each others points – thus winning the game by holding 2 points.
Now I’ll slip the secret why this works:
Half the players don’t give a kitten (yes, I actually wrote a “kitten”) about wining – and they will get much more glory by zerging. More than half the players simply refuse to go underwater, because its pretty boring. And guys like you, keeping and holding the ruins for teh win are pretty rare, since u sadly end up with 50 or so honor.
I can’t believe there is still no answer to this? Even a polite apology or smth? I mean… come on…
Anet kitten up the pvp over the pve again? This company is already infamous about kitten up a great PvP game for its PvE content…
If you make a poll, u will see that at least 80% of the ppl find this map dull, boring, and kitten.
Players join legacy of foefire and leave on Capricorn.
Suggestion – loose the ruins cap point and move in on the ship – that would make the map interesting instead.
Random arena was always just for the lulz. However we’ll be happy if they do it differently in this game, no?
Half the players in RA will always play stupid, thats a given. But now all of us are – just because winning doesn’t reward you as much as just rush to do everything that gives glory, no matter if its the wrong thing to do. And this intentional style of bad play is sticking to the masses – making them a horrible tourney players.
Although my post will prolly submerge in this thread, where only a small percentage of the players do have teams and play serious sPvP. I will add up that downed state brings some nice strategic elements in teamplay. Also every team has some stability, block, haste or w/e skills on the field for fast stomp – and much cc and hide to revive teammates. So the actual stomping is not the problem.
THE PROBLEM IS…
the ridiculous damage a player can output while downed.
Firstly its making 1v2 with any class impossible, second – its quite punishing to down someone, when he does much more damage to you downed, than alive… While this is giving the defending team advantage and enough time to reach ur downed teammate and get the enemy at 10% hp – i don’t think that punishing the actual winner of the 1v1 is the way to go.
Guardian is flawed and puny underwater, while the rest classes got at least 4-5 dmg skills, we got only one – and mediocre one too.
With trident u can combo 2,3,5 skills which are nice and u can get almost half the damage as a single warrior skill underwater. And with spear which is the decent weapon of them two – u can get as much as half the dmg of ele, quarter the dmg of the thief and fifth the dmg of a war. And this is only if u shine with skill and gear.
We all know the programmers at arenanet made such a sloppy work with the underwater content, which is at best – boring, slow and buggy. However ur artists did great, and its a beautiful world down there.
So how about shaping up and fixing your mess, couse such a great artwork is utterly wasted by poorly execution.
After todays patch it constantly disconnects me from the game every half an hour or so. My guildies are experiencing the same problem. It kinda sucks, doing tourneys with that – and I dont think anyone having such problems will even try doing a longer story quest.
