Behellagh, mambastik, thank you very much for your help. I am just used that CPU-intensive applications (that are multi-threaded) DO typically utilize 75-80% of processor power, while this one just does not, while the frame rate is low. At least now I know that it’s not a problem with my system and it’s just the way GW2 is programmed.

Abomally, I’m sorry to say, but your responses did nothing to help me. I guess you “actual techs” can’t be bothered to take a minute and help a guy around. Though you do make sure to show up in a topic, so that everyone knows what a real pro you are. Very helpful indeed.

CPU usage

Hey guys,

OK, I have a little problem with GW2.
I have quite a beefy system with Intel 4770k overclocked to 4.4 GHz and GTX 780 Ti in SLI mode. I play on 1080p, however, the performance of the game isn’t great at all with FPS dipping to 50 in half-empty Black Citadel.

I have checked the CPU usage and saw a problem: it was running at 45-50%, so my GPU’s are just waiting for nothing while the CPU is slacking. Removing the overclock does nothing at all.

Can someone please let me know if that is normal and if it is just a poor optimization of the game or if my PC has something wrong with it?

You're doing it wrong!

I think that this coin has two sides.

No, Guild Wars 2 is not ideal. It has plenty of flaws, the biggest of them is a sudden “content pit”, which you face as soon as the story quest is over. You can either grind or grind then, as there is nothing else to do. Grinding just for grinding’s sake is not something hardcore OR casual players usually enjoy doing.

On the other hand, until hitting this “content pit” I really, REALLY enjoyed the game. It is freakin great! It is nothing like other MMO’s. It has style, great looks, dynamic combat system, incredible story flow and best-in-the-genre questing/event system, that allows you to jump in and out of the action with no annoying backtracking to quest givers. It has wonderful music and great voice acting. Come on guys, give the game some appreciation.

You can’t make an ideal game. ArenaNet has done a terrific job and lets you, guys, play for free, with no subscription fee or pay-to-win BS. There are simply no other games like that on the market. None! Can you think of any single game that would offer that much content for that little money? I sure can’t, and I have played tons of games for last 16 years. Some FPS shooters that have like 6 hours of gameplay often cost more.

So please, stop complaining about developers not granting all your wishes and think a little bit about how much effort is put into this title to give YOU a chance to have a great time online without spending a penny. And if you want improvements, try to give some constructive criticism.

Elite skills feel too much like ultimates

Ultimates? I play an Ele…

“Ultimate” 1: Suicide Form, make yourself giant and squishy and easily kited, oh and gain some CC that nobody with a ranged weapon will ever get hit by (which is everyone).
“Ultimate” 2: Summon Greater Moron, summon the stupidest being in the game and watch it stutter-step around failing to hit any moving target (which is, once again, everyone)
“Ultimate” 3: Conjure Staff Knockoff, conjure a weapon which is pretty much the staff five skill, except it doesn’t scale as well.

I agree completely. I would actually love the elite skills to feel much more like “ultimates”. Currently, most of them are completely lame and close to being useless.

I think it will likely work much better with the future plans where we can pick to do only some, rather than all, of the requirements. That is the part keeping me hopeful about the whole thing.

I totally agree. When (if?) they do it, I will take my words back. I don’t understand why wouldn’t they include it into this update while still implementing the new system.

You just killed a small part of the game for me, pushing it closer towards the mindless grind fest.

But I’ve already found myself doing non-fun techniques to finish the achievement like not killing a mob just so I could repeatedly dodge its attacks.

That is exactly what I mean. Who would want to do that?
Also, crafting. Personally, I don’t do it. I don’t like it. I know my opinion should not apply to everyone, but shouldn’t such things as crafting be done to get useful stuff and not to complete a daily achievement? What’s fun about running to the city and crafting a bunch of crap just to get it over with?

I am sorry to sound all negative, but I don’t really like where this is going. Not one little bit. Seriously, I love this game and I enjoy playing it. You know why? Because it does not try to force me into a certain way of playing. Instead, it allows me to choose. Well, it DID at least.

Who in the world thought this new dailies system was a good idea? Up until now they were not intrusive: just come and play, you will eventually get it. You were getting rewarded for playing, and that is how it’s supposed to be done. Who was the person, who came and said: "You know what? Let’s not reward people for playing as they like! Let’s artificially force them to do stuff they have no reason for doing! How about that? Oh, they don’t agree? Too bad, no rewards for ’em today! "

This may seem a minor thing. I mean, dailies are not the most important part of the game. However, these kinds of minor things do make me wonder where this game is headed to, and I can’t say I like what I see. Forcing people to play together? Forcing to craft? Is that your way of involving players into an every aspect of your game, instead of actually making the stuff interesting, so people would CHOOSE to do it? Well, thanks, but no, thanks. Your idea sucks, Arena.

People play together because they like it. People craft, because it’s useful. People dodge attacks, because that is one way of surviving. If they don’t do that… Well, they DON’T find it entertaining. It is that simple. What’s the point in forcing people to do any of these things just to get a daily reward? I don’t get what you are trying to accomplish here. If that is how “diversity” and “fun” is introduced in this game, I’m afraid I can’t understand your concept of fun. Being encouraged to do mindless tasks just for the sake of doing them is somewhere on the opposite pole of the universe from an actual “fun”.

You just killed a small part of the game for me, pushing it closer towards the mindless grind fest.

I’m sorry but I cannot get past the whole"forcing" portion of your post.
Dailies are optional.

Yeah, they are. So is playing the game in general. Does that make it wise to cluck it up, encouraging grinding? If you want the reward, you are forced to do stuff you have no reason for doing.

FPS is CPU bound

No, it is not! It is both CPU and GPU bound as in most of the games. GW2 does require a good CPU though.

Event Bugs

I don’t wan’t to sound ungrateful. ArenaNet have made a great game, that is a pleasure to play. On the other hand, this pleasure is constantly darkened by the same issue over and over, and over again. NPC’s get stuck, enemy waves don’t spawn, conversations do not happen and so on. Loads of various events around the map of Tyria are getting bugged constantly. That is incredibly annoying and frustrating. Well, let me get to the point.

How hard could it be to implement a simple system, that would restart an event if it is going on for too long? Is it really such big of a problem to solve? I am not even a programmer and I can easily think of several different ways of how such issues could be solved. Why do players have to suffer so long?

I know the ArenaNet guys are busy and I understand that I am not the only one adressing them with “my” problems, but this one has been bugging people since BETA. Come on guys, it can’t be that hard to fix.

NPC spawn bug

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Melchiorum.2745

Well, I am pretty sure a lot of people would know what I am talking about. The Skill Point Challenge NPCs spawn some place underground, making it impossible to achieve 100% map or world completion. I am not really the type of guy to complain and I understand that the game is still new, so it has issues, so I was trying to deal with it and wait until the bug resolves itself. However, this is getting quite ridiculous. It happens all the time on multiple servers and no one does anything about it. People have either to wait for weeks, hoping that the bug will be resolved any time soon, or keep transferring to other servers. It would be nice to hear someone from the administration comment on an issue at least (if it has been done already, I would be thankful to know what was the response). Thank you.
