Missiles sometimes shooting into ground

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Melvin.3295

Melvin.3295

I cannot recreate this bug myself in any way, it is just something I have noticed happening sometimes on my warrior (wielding a longbow) and necromancer (while in death shroud). Mainly on wvw maps, but have noticed it sometimes doing it in spvp aswell.

This has happened to me even on a flat ground, while targeting an opponent player or npc. Beginning my autoattack in deathshroud or the longbow the bolt will shoot straight down into the ground instead of towards the target and give me the obstructed message. To fix my character shooting into the ground repeatedly I need to detarget and retarget after stopping my autoattack.

I have only noticed this on my warrior and necro so I cannot say if this is a very common bug among other classes, searching for obstructed missles yielded no results on the forum.

Sad truth of playing the ingame instruments

My point is that there is a clear difference in time put into songs, people are saying making macros is hard because of timing and all sorts of other things while in the end both sources get their music from the same person, either an online sheet or a midi file wich they transcribe for ingame play. Where one had to just play the macro the other has to actually put time into the instrument. And since there is not a clear difference to see wich user is using what there is a clear disadvantage for people that actually want to learn how to play the ingame instruments.

I said it a thousand times, so I’ll ask again:

Why does the effort of Person A doing XYZ affect Person B in any way? And why should the public care?

Every anti-macro person is just connecting those two dots without any cited reason.

I’m sorry, is it really that hard for you to connect two dots where people want to be recognised for time put into the game? If everyone got a free legendary, would the people that actually spend work for their own legendary still feel proud for walking around with it?

It’s still very special to me that people are comparing composing using instrument samples to using macros ingame to play music. Since were comparing it to real music now lets give an example what macro playing in the real world would look like:

Here we have band A eating their favorite dinner on stage during a live performance while their producer bob perfected and autotuned their song back in the studio wich is now blasting through the speakers during a live concert.

Then here we have band B, they also had producer bob, but instead of letting him play their music during a live concert they took the time to learn the instruments and learn to play as a band together.

I’m pretty sure people would rather see band B over band A live, now in guildwars the public can’t see the difference between a piece being played from a macro or human since the live performance is from an avatar ingame.

It seems to me that people using a macro would have a limited playlist, right? So those who learn to play different tunes, or work in concert with other musicians, would still offer a completely different piece of music from those relying on the macro.

Perhaps I’m mistaken, but does that make sense?

Well to me it just seems trying to outrun the macromusic sharing site while eventually were going to run out of pieces that are not on there. For example the guild I play music with [Cmaj] has played pompeii in a duet for quiet some time. Guess what theres now a sheet of music on the macro site for anyone to grab to play SOLO bass and melody. You just want us to keep trying to find random songs that aren’t on there untill we eventually either run out of ideas or give up. I mean all the popular songs are going to be on there for sure.

There should atleast be some huge icon above people their heads saying they are using a macro or some kind of indication that it is just a automated script looping instead of an actual performance. I also do not see at all how the ingame music playing scene is any less gameplay then any other part of the game. Is it possible to get refunds on gemstore items, I didn’t buy 4 instruments to be outplayed by someone who can play the melody and bass at the some time wich normal people would have to make a duet for wich requires actual timing through delay.

I see your point about bach. I just hope new people who pick up an instrument from the gemstore don’t just think it is alright to macro any song since I’m sure it is the same thing as using a bot.

Honestly, I’m not sure, but I’m going to ask Customer Support about it. The fact is, we have a policy against automating gameplay through the use of macros or bots. But music? I just don’t know if the rules about third-party programs extend to non-game-related situations.

The macros are basicly used to cast skills (playing the notes) with a single button. So as far as I know from the rules I’ve read this should be a banable offense in GW2. About the .abc files, I do not agree on bringing this ingame at all, currently it actually requires an actual player skills to play song instead of everyone just going on the web to look for the file and afk play everywhere.

Besides of having only 3 octaves and no sharps/flats the intruments are being played alot by people with macros and even have a whole site dedicated and promoting usage of macros. Besides reporting players for botting is there anything else you can do against those players? Have been in a legit music guild for a while now and own 4 instruments ingame but everytime I see people play the macroed stuff and sometimes even ask money for it I get really kittened off.

Maybe its time for an Anet survey ?

Now I think about it, this whole survey thing kind of feels like the voting we had a long time ago in LA. But instead about some smaller things. If you could make it feel the same way I’m certain players would have more interest in filling them in aswell and might attract more people to the forums to give you more feedback on those subjects aswell.

Maybe its time for an Anet survey ?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Melvin.3295

Melvin.3295

Hmm I am not too sure about how a survey would look, but coudn’t you start with a few questions about wich part of the game you like most (PvE, sPvP or WvW maybe a hybrid between two?) and give people a slightly different survey based on the first questions so you would have people with more experience and maybe more ideas for their favorite part of the game giving you feedback on those part. This would avoid giving a huge survey to everyone and give a shorter one instead. Or maybe hand different surveys out to people based on the ammount of time they spent in certain maps? Like give people who are in certain dungeons a survey for just that dungeon (same for other areas in the game).

You could even kind of implement it in the game so it looks more part of the world, have a skritt or something walk upto you and hand you the survey in this case and tell you he wants your opinion about this place of interest.

Build advice

Melvin.3295

As far as I see its a fairly common PU build with the exception of the Restorative mantras. I would personally change Restorative mantras to Dueling and take Harmonious Mantra wich would give you 2 extra condi removals and an extra heal wich I think would outweigh the 2k heal you’d get on a 2s cast time (very likely to be interupted). I would also put a energy sigil on the Greatsword too instead of the sigil of strength. The battle runes are ok in my opinion, might just want to get fire sigils instead for a bit more raw damage?

Question about the current spectator mode

I was wondering if there is any future plans of adding the spectating option to the current highest Team Arena matches, like you had in GW1. I personally learned alot by watching high rated GvG back then and would like to learn in a similar way in GW2, currently the only way is watching videos made or watching twitch streams because observing games in Hotjoin is more like watching Random Arenas and aren’t really that helpfull..

the problem with hidden caves in normal gw2 are there is NO CHEST AT ALL^^

even after jumping through a jumping puzzle u will get in 42 out of 1337 times something usefull.. maybe i should add another number to 1337 but u get what i mean.. fining hidden stuff never is of any use (usually)

while bombing a secret room and getting baubles does help u ingame

Ye I think this is my biggest dissapointment currently in gw2, I don’t find any joy in walking through the world looking for easter eggs or anything like that since most things are either linked to a vista wich kind of feels forced to visit, or there is nothing at all.

Melvin.3295

All of the text in this post is my opinion and how I feel about the game currently

Content inside the super adventurebox feel more rewarding

Unlike the last living stories I have played SAB feels more rewarding and this is why I think so:

  • There is a clear grinding goal for weapons, x ammount of baubles gives you a thing no other requirements wich gives people a better sense of time vs reward
  • Doing harder content (tribulation mode) gives you unique skins not available to others that didn’t do it (Can’t really find any PvE examples to for this, most, if not all PvE content is either pure luck (aiming at precursors) or time gated (looking at previous living story, like the first halloween skins etc.)

Boss battles

With the last living story release I think Arenanet is going in the right way for good boss battles and should keep up the good work.

  • Clear boss attack patterns that are avoidable
  • Fun and unique boss skills (like how the king toad needed to get a few hits before going into a damageable state wich is similar to teq/evolved wurm/shadow of mordremoth)
  • Making use of the fact that you can jump (For some reason I feel like that in the whole first year of guildwars this was rather underused in dungeons and pve)

Dieing feels worse inside SAB

I think this is the biggest problem in guildwars, especially with the last revamp of people no longer getting any armour costs when dieing. The minor setback of having to waypoint ingame doesn’t make dieing feel like anything at all wich I think is rather odd. While in the SAB it actually reverts you all the way back to your last checkpoint wich is usually alot of work.

I can’t really think of a way to fix this at all, but I still feel this is a problem.

Option to make the levels harder

I find it fun to play hard content myself, when the tribulation mode was released I had a bunch of fun in it, even tough I did not get to complete it all. Especially with the extra rewards bound to it it didn’t feel like it was just harder for the sake of being hard, but with an actual extra reward that is not available without doing this mode. (Besides fractals I can’t really think of anything similar, fractals even has a timegate to doing harder content due to agony resistance instead of being it restricted to actual player skill)

Secrets feel more fun to discover

There were a bunch of very fun secrets in the SAB, even in the hub itself there was a bunch of nice things to jump to. Looking for the caves you could uncover, hidden ultimate skills and things you could find with the flute, bomb and spade felt nice. There wasn’t always an achievment bound to it, sometimes you would just get a good ammount of baubles and yet I can’t find anything in comparison for PvE, there are some caves with chests that give you some dust and greenies but those just don’t feel the same for me.

I don’t think anet supports the use of macros, in the terms is said that if you use any programs that give you an advantage over other players not using it it is forbidden.

“Then I simply place the buttons in my macro software and it plays it for me. I normally do songs with a lot of chords and switching between octaves, so it’s almost impossible to play myself since switching from an octave within 10ms to play a low note of the chord is near impossible.”

I hope fighting your server in the future again and hope we can fight on even terms and then we can really see who manages to take the upper hand (I think if we had equal numbers we as FSP would have quiet some trouble).

Anyways, all of you randoms on the UW server that are not going into WvW because you are on the losing hand, I expect you to help out your commanders next week! It might seem like dark times now, but if you all would join in wvw for atleast 1 day a week you would definitely be at the top of your next matchup. would be a shame if we are unable to see eachother again in the future.
