The term forced grouping- for me at least has negative connotations. I will say this though, in other games I’ve played recently a button merely pops up when you get in the vicinity of an “event” that says “join public group?” This leaves the player the option to ignore the button or join. This was quite successful. There was literally no downside to it. If an event pops nearby I’m all too happy to join a group for the sake of the event. There’s no guilt or obligation whatsoever… simply people working together while helping themselves. When the event ends people drop the group- but often people will stay in the group and it works very well for meeting people. I thought of it as a built-in icebreaker of sorts.
I don’t see how people can go wrong. Getting 1 character to 80 is easily worth the box price. The cool part is, if you get bored you can put it down without feeling pressured to get your money’s worth.
I think people have legitimate concerns. Personally I don’t have enough game time to care about the little stuff. I get a couple of hours to play and I’m happy. If I were unemployed or living in my mother’s basement, etc, basically having unlimited time to spend I might sweat things like botting or lack of content, but as a casual player not coming anywhere near a content ceiling I’m also happy. It’s just a matter of perspective. As a long time mmo player, one who once had 24 hour sprees in EQ1 I can relate to those folks. As has been expressed by so many, with no subscription there’s no feeling of being ripped off for me. I’ve already got my box price back in spades in entertainment.
