Full again??? Are you trying to kill guilds?

Anet has a warped perception of WvW population. They don’t understand how WvW guilds work as they don’t play WvW themselves to actually understand what is going on. The ability for a server to queue up 1 map in na is enough for them to consider a server full it seems like. Why have four maps if only one map gets queued and the rest vacant? Where is the logic in that?

This. Population status needs to be reworked more than anything. Why have 4 maps if only 1 or 2 get queued? Maybe they could base population based on how many times a server can queue maps. Anyways, server linking either needs to not exist or they need to make the servers that are linked together be permanent.

I think another potential solution would be to provide more maps for players to play on. I just want the ability to log in at any time during the day and be able to fight zergs. I don’t care if I need to sit in a queue to do so.

With that in mind, if this would provide a means for that then I don’t see why not.

Hacking, spying, and sabotaging have been problems for a long time. This is compounded by the fact that anet does very little about the hacking and sabotaging at the moment. It takes a GM forever to actually confront the people and there doesn’t seem to be a systematic process for dealing with these people. I can only imagine how difficult it will be for anet to keep up with the potential threat. Hopefully the full servers stay full to keep the undesirables out.

I like the idea that eb and the borderlands should be locked and eotm should be the only WvW map available for f2p accounts. This would provide more incentive to actually buy the game.

When I open the page nothing appears. When I move the mouse around I see tool tips but nothing more. I tried repairing the client but that did not fix it. I reinstalled the game, but that too did not fix it. Is this just my problem or am I missing something?

Disappointing Season 2

This is the beauty of WvW. The politics of T1 and all other tiers in general is what keeps me, and I am sure others motivated to keep logging in to play. WvW is the only thing in GW2 that is still truly player driven. All we need is for Anet to interfere and ruin a perfectly fine system. If the system is so bad, why don’t you stop playing? Surely if the system was awful from the start people would of left a long time ago. Stop crying just because you lost and move on.

EOTM is currently killing WvW. All the pugs go there for exp and karma, so what is the motivation to do WvW with your server? Ever since EOTM was released, WvW has been population bleeding. Even in T1 there are times when you can’t get a fight, that is saying something.

Let me guess, your upset about the 2vs1 on Blackgate? The WvW community is actually making t1 more balanced by discouraging stacking on servers. The current system is fine; if it was bad WvW would of been abandoned a long time ago.

The game is very unfriendly to those of us that love grinding monsters. Anet claims they want to provide a game for everyone to play, but they don’t in this regard. I love to gather up monsters and aoe them to death to level up. They should at least add the option of grinding on monsters to level up for those that like it. And as a note, the killstreak booster does not count as I shouldn’t have to pay to grind on mobs.

Don’t you guys get it? I remember when they stated that they were content with champion trains (clearly not) and they had no intents on changing. Anet did this this because they want more people to purchase gems to convert to gold. It’s not that complicated of an issue. They deployed the “inflation” smoke screen and boy have you guys just lived up to their expectations. Time to wake up from your deep slumber and realize that they just want more mulah from you.

Anet could fix it by making defending a priority somehow; it would solve the karma train issue. On another note, EoTM is a great place to practice commanding. Take objectives along the way as you look for the enemy blob to practice your zerg killing skills. That’s what I do and it’s great fun!

I WvW because I love the massive fights that occur, which is something that other games lack. Completely player driven which builds community, especially server identity (gives you a sense of belonging). Always fun for me, I only get bored when there is no competition.

Most people (people I mean large guilds) have another toon on the other server to spy on the commanders movement rather then partying up with someone from the opposing server.

Defending Against Overwhelming Numbers

We have all been there!!! but to me some of the best fights in WVW are when a low population server takes the time to correctly siege a keep and rally for an amazing defense against large numbers. This type of situation can bring out the best from both sides. My example without using server names was a battle for Valley the other day. We built up Valley with SUPERIOR SIEGE on all inner doors out of AOE range, key placements on the vista as well as door coverage with trebs and catas. They had been stomping us for hours and when they came the were not prepared for it and the bags flowed, it seemed like everyone on the map came for the fight.

The better fight happened when they returned and I am glad they did. Knowing now what they were facing it was great to see how the strategy changed. They started working the outer walls from all sides systematically killing off our exterior siege, once the outer was breached, they did well in not clustering under our AC fire, although some of the newer folks provided some solid bag fun for us. They were on the walls flash building bali’s to work on the vista siege as we were working to keep up enough siege and occasional rushes to keep them at bay. They did have a few Golems and yes I know they could have easily built 10 or 15 and made the cap very easily, but I am glad they didnt because it made the fight one of the best I have been in.

North inner finally went down, we poured AC and personal AOE’s down on the choke holding them off as long as we could. They then sent their waves of small groups of heavies inside and up the walls to start killing the siege, but not without heavy losses, once they beat down our siege the battle for the circle was on. Both sides kept coming and in the end they won the day, but those are the fights that keep me coming back. It sucks to lose your stuff, but if I can persuade the lower population servers to take the time to defend your time spent playing this game will be much more satisfying than just running around trying to avoid the larger server. Well done on both side, hope it can happen again!

Even more epic when you get double teamed, and you wipe the other two servers continuously.

[NA] Gold league: Final Ranking Predictions

1. Handgate – 24/7 coverage but still needs another server to hold their hand to win against another server; case in point, JQ.
2. JQ – Good militia and commanders. Lacks EU severely and early NA. Has to be double teamed or else they will stomp all over you.
3. Lost Coast – Recently got tossed into the T1 fray because of SoR transfers. Militia is weak and extremely squishy. Just go with the flow and double team whoever they want, mostly to make the other server angry or for their own gain.
4. Sea of Bags – Throw bodies at you endlessly. Bags for days
5. Maguuma – Very glassy. Good NA, I guess.
6. Dragonbrand – My old server. I remember the days when FA and TC used to double team us all the time, good thing I’m used to it by now being on JQ. Decent militia, some good commanders. Almost certain they will finish last, Maguuma will finish right above them.

BG is dominating League

BG just has so much coverage it’s difficult to compete. For JQ at least, we have two borderlands unmanned almost, and barley a queue on our home BL. Not to mention BG zergs bloodlust so you know how that goes….

I think if we have learned anything from Season 1 and now Season 2, its that people will use third party websites like Reddit to organize mass migrations to 3 primary servers to guarantee wins for Gold, Silver and Bronze. Maybe this is not as huge an issue for Gold League, but kitten if it isn’t a massive one for Silver

lets face it, the front loading has already determined the winners. Fort Aspenwood is going to win Silver (unless Yaks does, could be close) but we all know the entire Silver league is a competition between Yaks Bend and Fort Aspenwood, two servers that were front loaded 1 week before people got locked in.

These Seasons are a good idea on paper, but that are absolutely devastating for mid rank server WvW populations. Season 1 broke several of them, sending many of their guilds and players to already overpopulated tier 1 and 2 servers. Season 2 is doing it again just as many of these servers were finally recovering from the massive hemorrhaging of players caused by Season 1. if you need any evidence to just how buggered Silver league is right now, just observe all three tiers of it with the Green team hitting for well over 100k points after 2 days and the next place finishers more more the 50k to 100k behind.

All of this can be avoided if you don’t announce an upcoming season until AFTER the players are bound to their current server. Speaking just from Borlis Passes experience, many of our players went to Fort Aspenwood. And the reason? “Because that is where everyone else is going so we can win Silver League.” Sad thing is, its going to set FA up for a meteoric crash once all these bandwagoners start fighting Jade Quarry after the season is over.

Your facts about Jade Quarry are incorrect. We have not had bad queues since Saturday night. Two of our borderlands are completely unmanned, not a soul to be seen. Yet for some reason people love to say how stacked JQ is. JQ will definitely finish second in this first match up due to lack of coverage in EU/early NA. If JQ gets paired with SoS and BG next week, JQ will probably finish second again. Blackgate blacked out so guilds and pugs could transfer over, and now they have infinite queues and are stacked beyond belief. For this reason I agree that servers should be locked before seasons start to avoid this.

Hey guys I was wondering if anyone could give me any tips in commanding PvM/wvw? I’m very interested in starting to get people together and organise such things but before I started I was wondering if anyone could spare me some tips wether they are from experience of spending Time in a commander group often

I have never commanded, but I have observed some things from commanders on my server (JQ).
- If someone else wants to pin up, let them (ESPECIALLY in WvW). This will show people that you are not hard headed or arrogant.
- Use TeamSpeak for WvW.
- Be open to criticism and don’t get angry or upset when something doesn’t go your way.
- Be consistent. Most of the commanders I see in WvW most importantly, are those that command often enough to be recognized by the general population. People will hold grudges against you in WvW if you are a crappy commander, so make the first impression the best.
- Provide food

Those are some tips, good luck!

I know there are plenty of ways to level but I have no idea what the priorities are. If I WvW all day am I missing anything important, if I pve open world 24/7 am I missing anything? If I dooooo just dungeons am I missing anything? I would love some advice on what a guy starting from scratch should be doing.

Just go through the game slowly on your first toon. This will allow you to experience the beauty of this game, and its uniqueness. Collecting vistas and hearts is a good way to do this, but also do your story line. This is what I did on my first toon and I absolutely loved it. WvW should be your end game, but do whatever you enjoy.

What kind of issue are you specifically having that could be related to lag?
- Extended timer on invincibility buff on lords/camp leaders.
- Teleporting(rubber-banding)/invincible yaks.
- Epic skill lag. Skill lag occurs map wide. So you could be at the southern most part of a map and still experience lag from a zerg fighting way up north.
- Hot bar keys lock up and don’t work even after lag is gone(not sure if this is related to lag, could be just a glitch)

What server are you on?

Has there ever been a time when you or a friend are experiencing lag, while others in your party are not?

Has there ever been a time where one party in a map is experiencing lag, while other parties in that same map are not?

Do you experience the lag at very specific times?
-Of course. When it is the prime time for a server on a map, you get large zergs fighting each other and the result is lag.

If so, can you estimate how many players are in each zerg?
- The servers can barely handle 25 people. Anything over 25+ you start getting skill delay, and it quickly becomes increasingly worse. Three way fights almost always result in skill lag. So basically, the epic fights are the ones that have lag, unfortunately.

God Mode Thieves

As the title says, is there some super build that just allows a theif to come back from near death to full hp and still pump out damage at an unholy level?

Just happened to me. 23 bleed, 5 torment stacks, burning and poison from a sigil. I can’t see his hp bar and he just cartwheels away and full bar heals himself with a lunge back skill.

WTF is that kitten? What is the skills name? Oh btw, it totally cleanses all of my condis.

Well how else do you expect a thief to actually have a chance against you? Want him to stand out in the open and let you destroy him? Stop your whining and realize that thieves must have stealth (ninja escape alternatives) and above normal damage in order for them to actually be a freaking thief and have equal opportunity in the battlefield.

Agreed. There is no server identity anymore. Most (not all) wvw guilds are responsible for causing the rift between player and server identity. There are not many guilds that have actually stayed on their server from day one without transferring. Most guilds are just looking for fights rather than ppt, which is really hurting some servers as well as the community. WvW is for fighting against other servers to see who can win by PPT, not kills. I really wish Anet would make a guild arena where guilds could match up with other guilds from other servers to fight (kinda like LFG); I bet you it will reduce the amount of massive server transfers (and transfers overall) we have seen lately.

It should never have been about servers in the first place. It should have been about guilds. Everything in this game should be about guilds.

There could be 3 main alliances and a guild could only represent one of these 3 alliances. Let’s scrap the server system.

I disagree, although guilds do play a role in the game, it should not evolve around them. There are people that don’t want to be in a guild and you can’t force them to be in one. One person I saw on this thread stated that Anet does not want to make any significant changes to WvW, in fear that they may unintentionally ruin it. I agree, the only thing they can do is to test features they want to add into the game before rolling them out and hope that the community accepts them. I like the server system and I still think there should be server transfers. The thing is that the community (in particular the WvWvW guilds) needs to accept that they are responsible for ruining the experience in WvWvW. By abandoning servers, it basically forces new players and other players alike to buy gems to transfer to another server to get the WvWvW experience. I think this is truly unfortunate, but some things you can’t really regulate, you can only inform people so they know before hand.

I guess it’s the players’ fault that the Hammer Train is so powerful because we blob it, not because anet decided to stick spammable CC on a dps and tank class.

I am not new to online multiplayer gaming. There is nothing wrong with the hammer train first of all. There is an easy counter to hammer trains: avoiding them by dodging or dpsing at a distance. Every class has it’s strength and weaknesses. I don’t want to sound condescending, but I take it that you have not played in T1 long enough to realize this. Back to the point I made in my previous post, this is something that Arena Net can’t fix overnight. In all honesty, they can’t really fix this issue. The community has to fix it, you can’t call on big brother to solve all your problems like people want them to. If the community doesn’t fix it, then we will have to live with it I guess.

I have trouble contesting keeps even though i’m a thief. I tend to use shadow refuge, then shoot the door with my bow and shadow step out, but most of the time I am unlucky and I get absolutely destroyed by the guards. Is there a safer way to do this? What am I doing wrong?

Pro tip, learn to dodge so you can stay out of the path of a hammer train.

hm you have access to infinite dodges then? 1-2 of em is np, but 4-5+ is and no dimishing returns on cc is something this game could use so people can spam their cc mindlessly whenever they want, but able to penalize themself as they see skill going on cooldown, but no or less effect.

Use superior sigil of stamina and you will basically have infinite endurance during a zerg fight.

Most people like zergs, it is what makes GW2’s wvw so much fun. The people that don’t like zergs are the minority, and in most cases are the vocal minority that ruins the game for others. If zerging is punished, wvw will suffer.

The attention ESO has gotten from beta has been bad to say the least. I don’t understand why people think it will kill wvw.

Updated tanky wvw necro build?

Anyone have an updated wvw necro build? The current build I have is full soldiers with runes of necromancer (jewerly too); all exotics. 30/0/20/20/0. In spite I have: V, VII, XII. In death magic I have: V, VII. In blood magic I have II, VIII. Staff as main weapon with wells and wall of fear, including plague. I want to be able to run with the commander in the heat of battle and provide a decent dps with good survivability. I just came back after two months away from GW2, so I am unaware of changes that have effected necros and my necro build in particular but I have heard they made some major changes.

I feel it is significantly more meaningful. I’ve always been a wvw player, but now with improved rank rewards and objective (achievement) rewards, I don’t feel like I have to pve as much for my wvw gear. This was one of our biggest complaints, it was rightfully addressed, and now we kitten?

Still, I’m not a fan of the ruins or the skill lag, but the influx of people to wvw is a good thing for the longevity of the game format. I think the dev team did a good job with this one.

Yep, maps are bottle necked, and my server is getting owned because all the pve people are trying to do jumping puzzle. What was anet thinking when they did this? This is WvW, stop trying to make it pve.
