I have similar concerns GW2 is one of the few games that tempts me to play a human, so I hope they are not neglected just because GW1 was their first outing. By all means, I’d love to see more lore for all races, but I hope that ArenaNet doesn’t commit the same error as a certain other company and favour its darlings, adding new races at an accelerating pace but forgetting about them a couple of years later..

Which brings me to another thing – I hope they make some manner of lore compendium accessible in game at some point. I know there’s GW-wiki, but something a little more elaborate would be nice, even if they charge separately for it.

Agreed with the above, but even blood elves fell short of their awesome concept art.

That first one looks a bit odd. The rest are great though. My human guardian looks really young haha.

Yeah I’ve re-designed him since. ^^

Korean popstar? Oh, I wish! I won’t have a male human or norn because they’re all so… well… not pretty.

Most of the faces look very rugged and manly, like from a western.

and what’s wrong with being rugged? some men like it rugged.

As long as you’re not conflating it with a) being old or b) having a shaggy beard.

Can I just say that I dislike all of them and the proportions are all over the place. The one in the third looks like a duck o_O

Eh, the “proportions” are fine. I find them appealing.

Then go play LOTR. You’ve clearly not played GW1. The game has never been “gritty”. It doesn’t aim to be. It has always been about beautiful, fresh visuals. It’s closer to a FF game than LOTR.

And it’s correct that in this game, humans occupy the place elves and dwarves traditionally do. Now I’d like to see the elder race for once beat the newcomers at their own game, without sacrificing what makes it unique.

Regarding facial hair… play around with the customisation. If for whatever reason you want to inflict a beard on your poor character, you can. Plus there is stubble.

Are some people ever satisfied? This sob fest about supposed grit has been going on since WoW and probably way before.

People who cannot distinguish between mediaeval earth and fantasy worlds should not bother with sci fi or fantasy RPGs. A fantasy world has absolutely no obligation to represent our own history to any degree of accuracy at all.

Can we get some more realistic top end weapon skins?

I think I’ll stick to having a discussion with those people who’d like to consider the point from whatever debating perspective, rather than those whose only contribution is “Rubbish!”

Debating =/= agreeing with you, just saying. You’re asking for a cosmetic adjustment to the weapons. You can extrapolate all you like from the rules of gravity, but they only function to a degree in comparison to real life, where falls as high as those in the game would no doubt kill you. So instead of phrasing the proposition in terms of rules of which you’re only partially aware, you’re better off simply asking for it as a cosmetic adjustment and ending it at that, because one can just bring in magic (and a host of other factors) and you cannot simply dismiss them due to it.

Puzzle Griefing in WvWvW ruins the Game experience.

I agree with the above well reasoned post.

Also, the whole “gravity THEREFORE…” thing is a load of tosh. Yes, some rules of the real world are replicated in a fantasy setting. It doesn’t therefore follow that the rest of them apply.

No, it isn’t tosh, and I never said anything about “the rest of them”. I specifically mentioned gravity (since it patently is in the game) and linked that to momentum & mass. I’m not an expert physicist, but I think you’ll find it very hard to rationally disconnect those three. Then again, you chuck in terms like tosh & appease, so it doesn’t strike me that you particularly want to be rational. Nice of you to allow that we might have our choice, though.

You’re welcome.

The issue is even if you allow for momentum and mass to work like they do in the “real world”, it has no bearing on a fantasy world. Even gravity doesn’t work to the same degree. Therefore, if what you want are better proportioned weapons, simply say that.

Have one because you think it looks cool, but don’t try to justify its existence to me!

Same goes for “realistic” weapons.

Oh, well, if you’re going to resort to magic, Gare, I’m going to quote Arthur C. Clarke… My point is that the game is quite obviously rooted in real world physics (unsurprisingly). No-one is suggesting throwing away all the daft weapon designs, beloved of fantasy artists & fans. It’s just that some of us would like a better proportion of more realistic ones.

Go ahead and quote him.

Also, the whole “gravity THEREFORE…” thing is a load of tosh. Yes, some rules of the real world are replicated in a fantasy setting. It doesn’t therefore follow that the rest of them apply. Indeed, magic is a major operative factor in the gameworld, like it or not. Some people like realism, some like it in degrees (myself amongst those), and others spurn it.

Though I am sure Arenanet could throw in a “realistic appearance” design to appease some people.

Charr should have been the main enemy. Undead are boring and repetitive.

Whilst I don’t think the undead are “boring”, I do agree that the Charr would’ve served better as an antagonist, and for similar reasons I don’t want to see the centaurs added as a race.

The humans are described as a very wilful, spirited race. I’d like to see this pay dividends, and for once for the “dying” elder race to stand up for itself. If they’ve existed as long as they have, they have the scrappiness, wherewithal and know-how to rise back to the top. The amount of “lol big races rulez XDDDD” in fantasy is getting a bit boring in itself.

I also dislike how my characters have to fawn over Jennah and agree with her method of bolstering the humans. Why should they? Maybe they dislike the Charr and her.

Some of my characters. Granted, the second guy is a bit slim but since when has a bulky physique been required to be masculine? If people are complaining about a lack of masculine options, they either have a skewered perception of what men actually look like or they confuse being ugly for being “masculine”.

Now, it’d be nice if you could age your characters appearance in a less binary way, especially for females. But the existing customisation options allow for a nice breadth of human characters. Yeah, the game focuses on attractive characters. So what? There’s enough ugliness in the world, so a game can avoid forcing one to play it. I do wish you could give your male characters a big bulge in their undies though, like you can give females big breasts, but that’s for another topic.
