I’ve had a long and drawn out process in getting the game patched today since being out of the country for a little over a month.

prior to me leaving the states I never had any connection issues, on an extremely fast broadband connection.

I had to repeatedly stop and restart the patcher in order to get the files up to date, once I had finished with that over 50% of my login attempts from the character select screen fail, and when I do get in game – I am only able to play for at most up to 5mins before it disconnects me.

I am a network tech, so I figured I’d test and run other content at the same time, while trying to play gw2. all my other services run fine, and none of them are failing or showing any signs that it is my internet connection that is actually disconnecting me from the game. My continuous pings to various websites show no sign of slow down While the game patcher would freeze, other downloads would keep going. Videos and web pages load just fine. Restarting my computer proved to offer no improvement.

I followed some forum instructions from other posts, turned off my firewall and SpyBot – ran the game as admin — yet still the same problem. I am continually disconnected after logging in or attempting to log in.

currently playing from Chicago, IL on 10mb broadband and running gw2 on Windows 8.
wondering how many others are having the same issues, and if it might be a windows 8 related problem (microsoft did just release a major update to the OS)

i’ve yet to dig further then the first few pages in the tech support forum, but it appears others are having the patching issue and I imagine if they actually got the game patched, they will have issues playing as well.

Legendary Weapons for people with no lifes?

Give it time, there will be other quested items and ‘gotta haves’ — every MMO has them, this one is just taking awhile to get situated.

One thing I am happy about is that Legenadary’s are only a skin. They really don’t make your character that much better at killing the content. Just looking cooler as you do it, and shows off to others you either are a total geek or you’ve just been playing the game a long time.

I look at Legenadary’s as just a natural progression to playing for a long time. I do keep them in mind when I’m having my fun, but I also am not chasing them down.

They look awesome, and as they should be, are meant to draw you in and WANT ONE!! That’s good! But it shouldn’t be the only thing players are holding onto after hitting 80 and doing most of the dungeons / gear grinds.

In honesty these Legendary’s are about as time consuming as the original Everquest 2001 epic weapons. I’m happy they are not ‘required’ for end game tho.

Dungeons - skipping content / class variety

the past few weeks I’ve been working on running through the various Dungeons and I’d like to make a few suggestions based upon how dungeons are actually being played out – not how they are supposed to be played.

People are skipping dungeon content, all the time. It’s a huge time saving tactic, and is completely logical from a farming tokens point of view. However, i think if it was balanced so that the rewards were more equal to the time and effort put into the dungeon and not just the fact you ‘ran’ and ‘tricked’ your way through it.

I think the revamp would be quite easy, since everyone only wants the tokens or the cash – Give a token / laurel / cash / random / reward for completing the entire zone, clearing it out.

Just give a Bonus for time, if your fast and experienced give a few extra tokens/whatevers (I’m just going to call them tokens)

Also, I’m frustrated that as a newer player trying to experience end game dungeons, because I am not already experienced in the dungeon I don’t get groups, have been kicked out of groups for even saying I’ve not run the instance before, and been rejected from countless groups because people want 3 warriors and nothing else. Just check out gw2lfg.com and you’ll see the pattern of players posting in CoF lfg looking for very specific full warrior groups.

Giving a token bonus for balanced groups would also help support against people constantly stacking classes to exploit a dungeon.

If it’s a first time for someone, there should be a token bonus because it’s the characters first time. This would encourage players to want to take the time to teach new people.

so that way, it’s still the same, and if peopel can coordinate well then all the extra token stacking would put them slightly ahead over just speed clearing the zone 3 times.

players just need a decent incentive for the parties effort of clearing the entire zone and not stacking classes. People who just want to base60 and speed clear can continue to do so, but something would and should promote people actually experiencing the content of the dungeon and not plowing through it.

Again this is just a suggestion as to how to fix what I feel is a big problem with Dungeon crawling in gw2, a lot of the content is decent and I don’t have as many complains over the content as how the players interact with it. any sort of reward or incentive is going to clear this problem up. again, It doesn’t have to be tokens.

I don’t completely agree with this suggestion.

I just wan’t slightly more control over my pet’s actions in raid situations.

Most importantly is activating f2 should NEVER send the pet attacking your target, or some random target should you not have one selected. Pet’s do already play support roles – I use condition removal on bear and regeneration on wolf in dungeons a lot. But I find the use is limited when trying to also manage where the pet is going to run off too — especially when set in PASSIVE mode.

passive should mean that, never attacking. regardless if f2 is activated or not.

I wouldn’t mind dismissing my pet for an active buff, but isn’t anywhere near as important as an upgrade being made to passive / f2.

  • Death Match
  • Capture the flag ( in New Map )

Into the game already, also explains why they are making the PvP Maps the way they are.

I mean I think your link alone explains itself, why be passive aggressive about it and cleverly bash the OP or whomever your directing your, what did you call it, Love? at. Or, I dunno, maybe even since you did spend, omg, an 1:25:00 of your life watching this video, you would’ve been kind enough to point out the time marks parts that are important to this — suggestion.

remember, this is the suggestions forum and people should probably be able to suggest things without having to do hours of research. else this would be a really stupid place to suggest ideas.

ANET — Please, please….PLEASE

make a defense of the ancients map/game mode.

you see the many months I waited for gw2 I got my pvp fix playing Defense of the Ancients2 and League of Legends and Heroes of Newerth.

After i’ve been playing a few months of sPVP, it very desperately needs new game modes. Please don’t get me wrong as I very much appreciate how sPvp is an entirely skill based arena and not a gear based arena — and it does have some cool maps — but but it needs many more game modes (not just map)s to keep people happy. I like switching it up, and having maps that are not just about holding the same checkpoints. In many ways a dota map/mode would be very easy I think for you guys to add as many of your dynamic events share the ‘push forward, capture this point’ mentality.

Which is why I think dota, dota2, lol & hon all share the success they do for a great reason. The game mode is fun. It was the best thing that ever happned to Starcraft and invented an entire genera of game play… and to play it out in the combat system gw2 has developed I think would be really engaging.

Which let’s face it, the entire tower defense genera of games is built off of 1 map. If that can keep thousands of people happy forever, adding it as a game mode to what gw2 already has would do a lot for player morale.

LFG FINDER that solves stagnate issue

I don’t really feel like digging around to find where ANet thinks a lfg finder would cause ‘stagnaton’. But if that’s true, really, someone should be seriously scolded over in those fun and kushy offices

As a new player of all 4 weeks, I was, very surprised ANet did not put something better for grouping / dungeons in such a game where the ‘seamless’ aspect of grouping for DE and working with other players was such a highlight to this games current success. Not to mention also that it was one of the heralding features throughout nerdlandia.

But alas, the community gets by on its own merits, regardless of what the developer thinks —> gw2lfg

I hope ANet is listening, I almost quit gw2 after leveling my first to 80 because finding groups for dungeons by shouting in LA was an atrocious waste of my time. I could not run around and do other things, like further a crafting discipline or continue map completions, lvl an alt in the mean time, whatever, have fun? right. without an LFGfinder I was unable to have fun! Fun to me right now is runing dungeons and getting the daily completed if I can. The lack of a proper built in tool created a huge ‘stagnation’ for me as a player. The opposite of what is intended, apparently as I’ve been reading through these forums today.

GW2LFG.com saved me from throwing this game to the wayside. No polish or a combat system I find incredibly fun and engaging, can replace feeling bored in an this MMO bc I can’t find a group. I’m doing my best when I say that also to just forget about how this game felt like a single player game between levels 30-65. Bravo to ANet for the FOTM changes, that helped some. I finally was able to experience FOTM runs because even on gw2lfg it was harder to find people who would spare the time for lower runs. Now with those changes, it’s so much easier.

but seriously, gw2lfg with the app on my phone is one of the best tools to date for any mmo i’ve played. The fact it was not developed by ANET & is a huge success should demonstrate very very clearly that a LFG finder is totally necessary. so necesary in fact the community made it’s own and it works, very well.

in the 2 weeks i’ve been using gw2lfg I have NEVER had to sit in LA. It’s never taken more then 10mins to find a group to do any dungeon, and that’s at all times of the day or night. I’d call that a successful app.
