I haven’t played in a long time and I’ve been thinking about trying to get back into the game. Is there still a large enough active player base to make it worth it?
bump for responses
Hello everyone! I’m back to the game after a long break. Other games took up my time and I haven’t played in quite awhile. I’m kinda looking to get into end game as I do have a level 80 guardian but I’m honestly not sure what to do? I have mostly exotic gear and a build I like but I’m just not sure what to do with it other that wvw. Any tips would be great!
Thats good to hear, thanks guys!
I swing back onto this game to see if they added one simply feature…. A dungeon finder.
Is this ever going to happen or should we just except the fact that it’s not part of the plan for this game?
Hey guys. I’ve been playing gw2 since release and I truly love the game. I enjoy the world, the style, the gameplay, the lore and it’s unique direction the game takes. Overall I think its a good game but I feel like a few things are missing. I feel like a lot of people agree with me in this regard. So here’s a few simple things I think the devs should focus on.
1. The UI- This is a major part of every mmo, and I think most people would agree that gw2’s is pretty ….well it’s lacking. Targeting needs to work better, along with nameplates, the attack ui, pretty much the whole thing seems outdated. In pvp its much more of an issue that pve, but all aspects of the game would benefit from a better UI.
2. LFG tool- It’s 2013, and at this point MOST mmos have this function. Now yes there is a website, but not everyone is going to use that. Heck, everyone doesn’t even know there is a website. GW2 is clearly a more casual mmo, and one of the major things to do at end game is dungeons, so getting into one should be semi-easy and casual as well. Also this could be an amazing tool for leveling as well. Like lets say you’re level 50. The tool could allow you to auto join groups (cross server) for dungeons in your level range, or event farming groups for zones (of your choice of course) at your level or lower. This would be a great way to stay social in a game that was clearly made to be social by nature. Still at the very least it should work to help you find dungeon or wvw groups.
3. sPvP/tPvP improvements- The devs have said more than once that they want this game to become a esport. I see the potential there. Despite what many people may think, I don’t see balance as being that bad. I love that pvp in this game is not a gear treadmill. Still this section of the game was clearly unfinished at launch and hasn’t improved much since. There needs to be leaderboards (I know they’ve mentioned adding them) but more than that there NEEDS to be other game styles. I would love to see arenas in this game. I would love to see more than just variations of ‘hold the point’ games. This game’s pvp has SO much potential. Its so skill based and although balance is an issue, every class is viable. Please don’t waste it.
4. Help your players! – First off, tool tips. These need to be looked at for traits, weapon ability and skill point abilities. I’m sure we’ve all had moments when making a build where we wondered “Does this trait stack with that?” “How much does this heal me for each time I use that” and such. These things should be laid out and clear. I know when I first hit 80 on my guard I had no idea how much altruistic healing healed for. “All symbols heal allies” Does that include me? How much healing? These are simple enough to figure out after doing some online research and in game testing, sure, but not everyone is going to do that. Make it simple “Heals all allies for X” depending on gear. This is important. It makes people feel like they understand what they’re choosing.
Next is builds. Lets be honest, it’s one of the best parts of this game, playing the way you want. Still not everyone is good at making these builds and you can’t just blindly throw out points and hope for the best. Also gearing wrong after making a build you ‘think’ will work can be frustrating. I suggest that either in game or on the website a few basic builds should be posted for new players. Maybe 3 per class (support, bunker, damage). These should include gearing options as well. I know that once again when I first hit 80 I put a lot of gold into the wrong stuff on my guard because I didn’t know better. This would help new players have some direction and also make them feel confident leveling and gearing a new class. Once they understand the class and feel confident with game mechanics many will come up with builds that fit their play style.
5. WvWvW- This whole section of the game needs to be looked at. It’s a mindless zerg fest 90% of the time. I’ve had some good times in wvw but normally the whole system just rewards the biggest zerg. There needs to be ways to counter these giant zerg mobs. For such an amazing and unique idea its sad that it requires almost no strategy.
Well that’s it for my ideas. This isn’t a QQ post. It really isn’t. I still have fun with this game. I love the idea. I just want to see it be the best it can be. Anyone else who has anything to add please do! Thanks if you read all this!
I swear to god Anet don’t take this off
If you take this out of the game. I swear to god I’m going to resub to wow. I swear! Don’t make me do this! I don’t wanna play wow! Ever!

Never take this out of the game. PLEASE
[quote=1731498;Vayne.8563: I know some people feel that no game can exist without an LFG tool..but most of them did until it was released. And not all of those games have failed.[/quote]
Its much harder for an mmo to make a come back then it is to have it start strong. Let’s be honest, every mmo is dying and none of them will truly last forever. The only difference from a complete, well made mmo and a bad one isn’t IF they mmo will die, its just how long you expect it to last and be truly successful. Every time people stop playing for one reason or another some wont come back at all regardless of the changes you make. A lfg tool isn’t the only thing this game is missing. I still play and enjoy the game but I really wish they would get this game to a point where I feel like it’ll last for years and years. In order for that to happen they need to start making major improvements to the core game play, like spvp, lfg, the ui, bug fixes, balance issues (zerker warrior lf 3 more zerker warriors) and such. Sold core gameplay > silly new zones. I think the point is to be very successful, not just to exist.
I do quite enjoy all the people saying “Other games didn’t have it at lunch!” First off how many successful mmos are out right now? A hand full? Most of them do have a lfg tool.
Well my ps1 shooters didn’t all have online multiplayer or leader boards so clearly none of my ps3 games need it either!
Lets assume we are talking about wow….THE GAME IS OVER 8 YEARS OLD!
Sure it didn’t have lfg at launch but it has had it for years now and it’s very successful. I think the point I’m getting at is clearly games build off of each other and genres of games improve over time. You would expect to get a much better quality of game then you got 8 years ago in almost any instance of the gaming market. Many people complain about feeling lost at end game with very little to do and this tool would be a nice quick fix to getting people grouping up and playing the game past 80. It could even be used to toss you into leveling groups (lvl 18-22 leveling in X zone). It would be a great way to make friends and keep game play social from start to finish.
A lfg tool clearly should have been set up in game at launch. The fact that is wasn’t and hasn’t been is for the same reason many other things that should be in game haven’t been. We got handed an unfinished product. All you need to do is take a quick glance at sPvP and tPvP to know that. Still that’s not the problem, the problem is the lack of improvement since launch. I mean after coming back after months of not playing, I see very few major changes.
Most of the changes that do get churned out seem like attempts to make sure you don’t make too much money with rare drops and what not to try to force you into using the gem store. That seems to be the major priority here. The other thing I noticed? A lot less people around.
Ultimately this game is fun for a lot of reasons. I love the game play, the events, the way you can play your toon the way you want to play it. It’s sad to see a game that has so much potential flounder. The pvp could have been amazing, but its not due to lack of modes and game play options. The pve is new and interesting but finding groups and really knowing what to do can be a pain. The UI is simple and clunky. There are still a lot of glitches and bugs that I’ve seen since launch that are unresolved.
There are always going to be people playing this game that are in love with the idea of it, but as long as the gem store is the most important thing to developers, then I really see the game dropping down in the next year or so to only die hard fans. If you want to release an unfinished product that’s one thing, but you need to be prepared to work your buns off to make big improvements past launch. I guess my question is, does anyone feel like anet is doing that?
Is it just me?
I wish they would just increase the range on staff 1.
At the end of the day it would still only hit 5 targets max. At least this way we could throw out a little damage and get some kill credit when sitting on top of a tower playing support.
Hey there!
I’m just looking for any builds that work when you’re in full soldier gear! Mostly for pvp.
Jax gave me some good ones but I’m just seeing what else is out there.
Thanks everyone.
No easy answer to this. I could easily argue that the warrior is the most powerfully OP and the weakest at the same time. Bull Rush + 100blades = massively, ridiculously OP.
BUT! When that’s on cooldown = poop sandwich.
This is true! When a warrior pulls it off its like auto death haha. Outside of that they’re no problem
Hey guys, I’m just trying to get an idea of how people feel about pvp balance right now.
What classes and/or builds do you think are the strongest in wvw? Which ones are the weakest?
Also same question in spvp, because clearly its quite different.
I feel like for wvw Mesmers are one of the strongest classes.
I would say the weakest would maybe be guardians? Because of the lack of ranged options?
For spvp thieves are quite annoying and guards are strong bunkers.
I’m not sure what I would consider the weakest….eles don’t seem very strong though.
What are your thoughts?
They did this for one reason
Gem
Store
People were making a lot of money selling the rare dyes. Anything that makes people a ton of money they nerf. Thats how it is in f2p games, sadly.
Guild Wars without Guild vs Guild? Okay, I want my money back.
I did always kinda find it funny that there are no guild wars…in guild wars.
I’m just wondering what stats/gear/runes I should go for as a staff ele. Any help or builds would be great! I plan on doing a lot of wvw. Thanks!
Just a quick update
I’ve been using the triple shout build and doing much better. I think one of my issues is I play this game more like wow than I should. I relies defensive game play is much more active. Also I find that I don’t always know other players ‘burst’ attacks. I’m hoping its something I pick up over time so I know what to counter with shelter.
Thanks so much, you’ve been a ton of help.
i think I’ll try the triple shout first. It seems straight forward and fun to play.
a quick question. Would the triple shout build work as well with a hammer as a mace shield combo?
Awesome I look forward to reading more =D
GS is guardian’s best weapon offensively. Scepter I would personally only bust out with if I had to range, I almost never use scepter. Staff is mainly support. Hammer I would say is a close 2nd to GS.
You have to find your own playstyle, Jax likes scepter, I don’t ever use it except when i cant melee. Everyone has their own. Check out those videos, the 2nd has a forum post with build discussion.. it’s very motivational!
Not if you’re planning on using symbol DPS.
What would you suggest for my build as a dps weapon? I love the mace and shield combo, but its very hard to land kills with seeing as the damage is so low. I normally just use the great sword to get out some quick damage.
What gametype?
well… I kinda wanted to do wvw, but I think I messed up. As I said I’m very new to this game and I didn’t/don’t quite understand gearing. So right now I’m sitting in full soldier gear, with this build… It doesn’t seem to be working well, that or I’m just god awful haha.
I can help but what are you trying to achieve? What style offensive/defensive/certain skills/traits? If you just want a good build I’ve got a lot, but sometimes people want one for their playstyle (ie. hammer).
Well right now I’m using gs, mace/shield. But I wouldn’t mind going gs,hammer
As far as what I’m trying to achieve, I guess I was going for something that was very tanky and hard to kill but at least in the long term was able to land a kill when I had to and put out a good bit of team support. I went for a lower cd on sigils so I could heal more often, larger symbols that heal everyone , and a reduced cd on shouts. I figured the aoe on my symbols and my shouts would work well with altruistic healing. I think one of the problems is because I went full soldier (weapons, upgrade slots, armor, accessories) so my healing is very weak. I’m normally very easy to kill (or so it seems) even 1v1.

Yeah I did! they’re pretty cool builds for sure. I was going to try the 2nd on util I saw how much the runes are for it haha
Bring a ranged weapon is my take on it.
Isn’t the scepter like, god awful?
Actually one of the best Guardian weapons
would it work at all with this build? I really wouldn’t mind giving up the great sword but I don’t have money/karma for new gear/runes

One more question, would this build be any good for wpvp?
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fUAQNApeRlYgyCXFyIEm4EhVBCi9Aja8jXPcoEZIA;TYAqsMZJyymlLLZWA
So this is my build. I just hit 80 the vigil gear and soldier runes for it. I was going for a more tanky feel. I had a few questions about the set up.
1. Does the signet of resolve effect stack with purity trait and remove 2 conditions?
2. Does Altruistic Healing apply to shouts? Does it apply to boons gained by my symbols? Also does it heal for a bit just by applying boons to myself?
3. Writ of the merciful, does it heal me as well as allies? Does it stack with the healing I get from my mace symbol?
Thanks guys, I’m a bit new so I know this maybe some silly stuff to ask but I just want to be clear.
(edited by Mougen.6702)
I really don’t get this game haha. I suck
I was wondering if anyone had one?
I would like to use the sword and shield if I could
I’m new so any help would be awesome
I’m just wondering what pvp is like in this game?
Are there ladders?
Is it worth really looking into?
I mean I’ve messed around a but it just kinda seems like the same thing over and over. Is there any plan to put like arenas or something into the game?
Way points cost money. More money than they should…. Sadly when you hit 80, you start to understand how much they end up trying to push you into using the gem store…..and that game being FTP comes at a cost. I would rather pay 15 bucks a month and have things be a bit more reasonable in price.
Also I wish I would have read this post earlier today before building a self healing set for my guard…..fml
There is no dedicated healer class. It has been discussed in many threads so far. Even if you only want to heal yourself, the combat system isn’t designed for you to always be able to heal your way out of trouble. Working as intended.
Then why even put the stat in the game? I mean I get what you’re saying…but it seems like a waste to have it in there. It just confuses people into thinking stacking it is a good idea.
With the amount of bugged quests across multiple zones it would be much better if the servers were restarted more regularly so that the events/skill points are at least restarted. It’s somewhat disappointing seeing a core quest in a event chain being bugged for over 2 days.
Another option is to put a timer on every event so that if its bugged it can reset because i am getting to stage that free server transfers aren’t enough because you end up jumping from bugged event server to bugged event server.
I like your second idea better. It is quit annoying when a event glitches and messes up an area or something.
It’s kind of weird for a 1200 range auto attack to be aoe though, sure it would help a bit technically, though its damage is too low to be useful for anything, I doubt you get much credit with that, but I think a longbow would make more sense.
Oh I agree 100%. I wasn’t saying that the staff 1 attack should be our ranged option, just that it would be nice if I could..like hit people with it. I wouldn’t mind the they made the cone effect less wide as well. Just when I’m supporting from up on a wall or something I would like to be able to hit someone, even if it’s not for a ton.
Really for me it comes down to two things.
1. Support needs to give rewards, hands down. Support builds are very important to WvW, sometimes more important than just beating on people and should be rewarded as such.
2. WvW needs to be made more melee friendly at times. Honestly I think it’s silly that WvW is pretty much just a ranged dps game zerg fest. The only time melee seems to be useful is in very small battles, once your in a tower/keep or on the off chance you find some guy running around alone….and even then most of the time he just runs away from you haha.
Also a side note, why not let the 1 on the staff be 1200 instead of 600? I mean is it doing too much damage? Are you afraid we’re going to wipe whole armies with its powerful AoE attack? It would be nice to at least do a bit of damage and get some credit when I’m using the staff for support.
(edited by Mougen.6702)
I’m pretty underwhelmed. I would say that they’re weak at best. I mean I would like something more simple. Thief runs up, pops thieves guild, things die. The end. I would like something alone those lines. Where you can just pop your cd and keep fighting, not something that requires a ton of planing and placement like the tomes.
Now I love this game so far, and I have very few complaints.
One that I do have is simply that in most instances of this game you aren’t rewarded for using support skills.
What I mean by that is if you’re participating in a event, in WvW or in a quest zone, your boons, healing, shields or whatever don’t add to your “participation” in said event. As a guardian I think its pretty silly that I’m more likely to get a gold participation rating by blasting my staff into a group of baddies than by giving all the players around me 12 stacks of might or healing them. The same can be said for sPvP. You get no glory for support skills. Only taking points, killing players and so on.
All I’m getting at is that support skills can be HUGE when it comes to overcoming content in this game, and players who focus on supporting their allies instead of beating down there enemies should be rewarded equally imo.
So I’ve been trying this build out in sPvP and I’ve been enjoying it quite a bit.
It’s pretty straight forward. I pretty much use meditations for healing myself and clearing conditions. I went with sig of judgement so I can stay up a bit longer. Symbols for some off heals and group buffing. Greatsword for damage and staff for support.
I can hold points on my own against 2 or more enemies for a good amount of time and I’m pretty much able to 1v1 any takers. When taking points I try and play more of a support roll. Buffing/healing with the staff and dropping symbols as much as possible.
Any tips or critiques would be great!

This is what you’re after. Guardians are sprinters, too.
Thanks for the tip, I’ll be sure to try it out. looks pretty fun =D
Hopefully OP realizes you can change major traits as easily as you change which weapons you’re using.
I think the point is you’re playing at a disadvantage if you don’t use the weapon traits and the corresponding weapon.
Everything as been said, but I feel I had to write something.
Dungeons in GW2 are a clusterkitten, everybody running like headless chicken while trying to avoid the one-shot hit by the trash mobs.
I seriously hate doing dungeons in this game.
I have to agree here. It’s a rally/way point rez fest. It’s really not fun, dynamic, or even really challenging. It’s just silly. I mean trash being harder than bosses is…well silly….being able to run back into a boss fight 10 times from the closest way point is……well its silly too and people getting one shotted by trash and bosses with no real tanking or threat mechanic is… you guessed it…silly.
Just what the tittle says. I’ve been tanking in pvp and I’ve found it pretty boring but I can’t seem to find a good damage build that I like. I would like to use 2h weapons nut it doesn’t matter that much. Any help would be awesome. Thanks.
All the armor in the world doesn’t help against the oh-so-popular condition dps builds in sPvP. With our lower than average hp pool its very easy to build up a few to many DoTs and hit the ground fast. That being said any truly tanky guardian probably isn’t putting out a ton of damage most of the time and can be overwhelmed by a few high damage attackers even if they aren’t condition based.
They do need to do something to make support spells give you something not only in WvW but PvP as well. Me? I go hardcore tank mode. I help take points, take chunks of damage others couldn’t, help take down gates and other high risk things of that sort. It does seem like it maybe a bit more fun to be a ranged class in WvW though.
