The only dye acquiring method that doesn’t involve RNG, is buying them individually off the TP. So that’s really the only reliable way to get them.

If you’re trying to get specific dyes, figure out which you want, and just buy those individually with gold.

If you’re trying to get the most variety of dyes, the best way would be to mass buy the cheapest dyes on the TP, and throw them in the forge.

I would never buy the gem dye-pack. 5 of the dyes are common and 2 of them are uncommon/rare. Considering how many different dyes there are and how valuable gems are, it seems like it’s nothing but a rip-off, unless you’re lucky and get a high value grey dye.

I’ve now been trying different T1,T2,T3 combinations, to make better use of the talismans and lumps, and I found out something interesting.

Combining 3 T1’s (pebbles) and 1 T3 (Talisman, Lump) has never yielded a T1 result.

I found pebbles by themselves to not really be worth it, until I found this out. Seems like it would be the most effective way to use the pebbles.

Ok, I bit.

Bought 200 lapis nugget and 200 spinel nugget

On a bit over 100 forges, I got 3 silver doubloons, for A NET LOSS OF 1 AND A HALF GOLD! yay.

Seems like a 0.03% chance for doubloons for me.

Using buy orders, you could have gotten those 400 nuggets for 1g60s

Not saying you didn’t have bad luck. Just saying you’re not using buy orders, and that’s a big part of not losing too much on bad streaks.

After reading the threads on the silver doubloons and learning about the pebble/nugget combine, I also tried my hand at it… My results are based more on my previous knowledge of mystic forging rather than the actual numbers and figures. Someone was claiming ~100% ROI, and that sounds about right to me.

Anyone doing this should notice that you can combine T1, T2, and T3 gems and other related items together, which is very interesting in itself. I’d like to know more about how that works… But for now, that’s beside the point.

Pebbles and copper doubloons are considered T1.
Nuggets, marks, and silver doubloons are T2. (You can combine marks with nuggets to get the same result (or just 4 marks), and marks are currently ~31c)
Lumps, talismans, and gold doubloons are T3.

Mystic forge works by accepting 4 of the same tier and type of item, and gives you a random item of the same type at an assumed ~20% to upgrade it a tier (which is why the T1-T3 combines are confusing).

Since silver doubloons are T2, the pebble combine should result in about a 1:4 silver:copper doubloon ratio.

Since nuggets are T2, they should have the same ratio, except with gold:silver.

Theoretically, you should be getting ~4x the silver doubloons with the T2 combines, compared to the T1 combines.

Bottom line. This combination is awesome. It’s cheap and virtually guaranteed to make you some money (for now!).

A fee for buy orders to reduce fake orders

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Mousethecat.1835

Mousethecat.1835

While I agree with the idea that not having a non-refundable fee on buy-orders is imbalanced, I don’t think there’s any problem with people creating a “false market” in an item. It’s pretty difficult to pull off and make significant gains, and people who do do this can stand to lose a lot of money if the market doesn’t stay in their favor.

It happens a lot. Someone will buy-out a significant amount of stock of an item-of-interest, then try to establish a higher price, then the value slowly crawls back to closer to where it was when more and more people decide they don’t want to pay the higher prices. Silver doubloons are a good example, not to long ago, someone bought up all the stock that was priced up to 1g, people freaked out, and then the price dipped back to about where it was before.

My main point, is that just because someone (or someones) have a lot of capital, doesn’t mean they have the power to establish prices on whatever items they feel like. They just have the ability speed up the process and put themselves in a position to take advantage of any opportunities. (And, that it’s too easy (zero risk) to make money via tons and tons of buy orders)

Candy Corn sink

Posted by: Mousethecat.1835

Mousethecat.1835

I have a bit of interest in this market, so I know and assume a lot of things like…

- Currently, it’s a non-renewable item. The current supply is all that we’re going to have (as far as we know now). That quality alone makes it a good candidate for market speculation and manipulation.
- The holiday event is coming up. Maybe there will be more candy corn being spawned? Maybe not. Maybe the new recipes will require candy corn? Maybe those recipes will make something actually useful and awesome. Maybe it’ll suck and be worthless. Who knows? I don’t know, but it’s a reason to be interested in the stuff.
- If you’re going to buy a lot of the stuff, you can just re-list on the TP so it’s not taking space. So you’ll probably lose the listing fee, big whoop.
- Someone with a couple hundred gold could buy up the current whole 3c supply, and with a few hundred more gold, probably stabilize it at 3c or 4c. A couple hundred gold shouldn’t be that much to a serious business trader.
- All foods made with candy corn provide 15% exp bonus, as opposed to 10%. That’s neat.

It’s been an interesting market to watch, along with the ToT bags, now that the endless tonics that come out of them aren’t bound.

I’m just gonna derail this for a moment, to point out some problems I have with the OP’s posts.

- Assuming an item raising 100g in a month = a steady trend of increasing 100g/month
- Assuming things of the other posters, in an attempt to disregard their opinions
- Responding to the thread with a post that contains nothing but

Facepalm………

That’s real constructive and mature :\

I just really wanted to say, Anarion, is that your last post is an insult to every responder, and to the purpose of these forums. I can’t see anything else behind it, and it makes it difficult to take you seriously in a discussion.

This is meant to be taken as constructive criticism. I hope it’s taken as such.

You seem to think Anet has something to do with this…

They don’t.

If Anet makes any changes to an item in a way that changes its value, the player-base is the determining force for how much that item is going to be worth. Main exception to this would be if they added existing items to in-game vendors at a set price.

EDIT: +1 to the poster below

If you want to raise better awareness of the situation, I suggest a title change, as the current one is a bit misleading.

You didn’t lose 70g. There is no “tax”. You converted all of your money into gems, unaware of the differing conversion rates. For all you know, gems could raise to more than 50% of their current value in the next day, and you would have gained something overnight.

PSA Pumpkin Cookies 1s vs Omnomberry Tarts 5s

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Mousethecat.1835

Mousethecat.1835

As mentioned. The “Gold from monsters” buff applies to the drops from dungeon bosses, which can be quite substantial. The bar almost always pays for itself in a single boss kill. Omnomberry bars are currently priced lower than their worth. I’d expect something to change.

As far as the actual topic, the pumpkin cookies require some interesting mats (candy corn and karma), and provides one of the best food buff combinations available. The prices on these (and the mats to make them) just started to rise. It’ll be interesting to see how this food plays out in the long run.

Current shifts in Ectos/Dyes

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Mousethecat.1835

Mousethecat.1835

I don’t believe in drop-rate nerfs. Unless the patch notes specifically state so, nothing changes. There is logic and reason behind every price shift…

Dyes
Supply:
-Less bots and overall-players leveling characters. Personally, about 80-90% of the unid dyes I was acquiring was while leveling from 1-80 doing quests in zones. While leveling my 2 80s, I ended with about 60-70 unid dyes per character when I was done leveling (Averaging maybe 1 an hour, and I don’t know of people getting significantly higher rates than that).
-As far as I know, you can’t really farm dyes. It’s hard to maintain a supply on a high demand item if players can’t farm it.
-There was that incident where they unintentionally raised the drop rate of unid dyes. Which caused a temporary surge in supply, dropping the price. This created a bit of a bubble, which popped the moment they announced the accident/fix and people rushed to buy the cheap dyes before they weren’t cheap anymore. A lot of people think they reduced the rate to lower-than-before, I don’t think that’s true.
Demand:
-There are ~400 different colors to unlock.
-Colors are only unlocked on the character that used it.
-Some people are completionists (Apparently, a lot of people who play this game are) and are unlocking every single color on their character.
-You can mystic forge dyes. I could make a whole other list on why this affects an items demand (And supply).

Ectos
Supply:
-As far as I know. The only thing that would have recently affected the supply of ectos, was the karka uber-loot chest. Causing a short burst of increased supply, shortly followed by….
Demand:
-The discovery that ascended items need another truck-load of ectos. That’s really it. The sheer amount of ectos a player needs to forge the items caused enough players to “buy now before it’s too late”, driving the price up steadily since. It’ll normalize once more people get their ascended items, then raise again once more ectos are needed for new ascended items when they’re released.

Chocolate
Supply:
-They made chocolate harder to obtain a while back, so really, chocolate was prepared for a price hike. It just took the anticipation (And a few forum posts here and there) of the holiday season to cause people to speculate enough drive the price up.
Demand:
-Upcoming Holiday season + Trader speculation to the extreme.
-It’s chocolate. Everyone loves chocolate!

Lost all my Gold

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Mousethecat.1835

Mousethecat.1835

My inventory is full (80 slots) and I have about 100 items in pickup with zero gold.
I just listed a few more on the market to clear some inventory space, accepted a few more items from pickup to clear it a bit and still nothing.

Based on these statements, it sounds like you still have quite a few items waiting on that pick-up list (Quite a bit more than whatever the cap is), and you have yet to clear that tab completely of every item.

Clearing out only a few of the items at a time would only bump up a few of the completed transactions at a time. Try cleaning out the entire pick-up tab, and that should do it.

Mousethecat.1835

They’re likely talking about the bonus chest you get when you complete the bonus fractal (The Jade Maw fractal you get at the end of every even numbered difficulty). As far as I understand, you only get the bonus chest once per day, per 10-tiers of difficulty.

Say you run and complete level 8, you’d get the bonus chest after boss is dead. If you were to complete level 10, then you’d get another chest (The bonus chest at level 10+ has a chance to drop ascended rings). After that, you’d have to wait until the next day, or complete level 20. And so on.

Can you TANK in a dungeon?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Mousethecat.1835

Mousethecat.1835

I (warrior) just recently switched to Hammer/Shouts. Loving every bit of it. Great for “tanking”. I also just finished my power/vit/tough equipment, which put me at around 3k attack, 3k defense, and 30k hp.

-Healing shouts are awesome. With about 300 healing power, shouts heal for about 1.5k hp (@lvl80) each.
-With the 6/6 Soldier runes, shouts also cure a condition, not only off yourself, but off the entire party. Absolutely huge for any encounter with conditions. Seriously, It’s funny how trivial it makes some fights.
-With the reduced cooldowns talent, On My Mark only has a 24s cooldown, For Great Justice and Shake it Off are 20s. Super quick! ’cause long cooldowns are lame.
-Hammer skill 2 inflicts weakness. Weakness is totally boss, especially against bosses.
-Most of the other hammer skills are interrupts/stuns/just plain awesome (Earthshaker, a lunging AoE stun on a 10s cooldown. Yes please.)

I don’t really think there’s much to say in regards to “tanking strategy”, since no one really knows/understands if there’s a threat system of any sort. As far as I’m concerned, my main contributions are mob pulls, shouting near allies, debuffing/interrupting foes (Bash them), and standing in the line of fire.

If all of that isn’t “Guild wars 2 tanking”. I don’t know what is.

If they change the chests too much (making them cheaper, having better rewards, whatever…), all the people who bought the keys before will feel cheated and then whine about that. I think Anet wants to avoid that. A decent solution would be to introduce an alternate item (Like the consortium chests, but those sucked too. So I guess Anet can’t get it right no matter what).

Or better yet. Just don’t buy the keys, sell the chests on the TP, and don’t think about them ever again.

Posted by: Mousethecat.1835

Mousethecat.1835

Having more people in the market is actually what helps make it “normal and stable”.

When you have less people in the system, it’s easier for individuals to manipulate items since there are less people contributing to the overall supply/demand; also, reaching an equilibrium will happen quicker when there’s more consumers/suppliers driving the supply and demand.

The changes in prices have little to do with the amount of people, so much as the factors that affect the supply/demand of items.
