I play for fights, really. I see it like… if you can own it up in fights, and you can defend objectives well, and attack objectives quickly… then you’re being rewarded in PPT as well, because you’re still playing the game right just with a different focus.

Anyone who thinks they’re a genius because they play ppt needs to step down off their high horse. It doesn’t take a genius to say “hey i think this is the tower we should kittenin zerg the kitten out of within the next 6 minutes”

on the other hand, it’s nearly godlike how some guilds can come out on top of most all their fights despite running weird builds or team comp or smaller numbers than huge map zergs.

CDI- Character Progression- Vertical

MouthForWar.4210

One of the biggest issues I have with character progression in GW2 (and mainly the reason I quit playing extensively) is the “no endgame” philosophy.

When I brought my first character to level 80, I knew the next thing to do was get all exotic gear. But for what purpose? What was there for me to do with that new gear? I could either grind in dungeons as a MEANS of getting that gear, or simply buy it. But in what aspect of the game would it benefit me? Just to make the next dungeon grind easier?

Maybe in WvW it helps, but what did WvW give to me that offered more content to the game? It seemed to me that PvE didn’t offer much outside of farming the same dungeons over and over or doing those dragon champion world events. However, even those felt more brainless than the hype before release seemed to let on. You just follow a path until you get to the end. Auto attack and mindlessly skill combo on a champion or legendary boss until he’s finally dead. Get your chest. Do the other paths. Wait until the next day or go do a different dungeon that’s the same deal but different aesthetics. It didn’t feel interactive enough, and therefore was not enough incentive for me to grind for the gear.

It was the same in WvW. After playing on many servers of all sorts of ranks, WvW now feels very redundant… It’s always the same circle you travel in, always the same keeps you defend from the same tactics, always the same supply camps you flip, always the same zergs you fight. There wasn’t really any clear vision of how getting better gear was going to change that experience.

Unfortunately, that’s about the only method of character progression at the maximum level: You just grind for gear. And that was the fate GW2 was out to avoid.

IMHO, I would prefer to see things like these to offer more end-game progression:

-Unique drops from specific mobs or specific bosses. The “named” exotic items don’t seem to have any links to the means through which you obtain them. I would like to be able to fight a boss like Ranger Nente, and actually receive his item or armor and only from him. It gives a sense of exclusivity and piques a lot of interest in a player like myself who is really inclined to go “treasure hunting”. I prefer to know what exactly I’m fighting and working for, and prefer to cross my fingers in hopes of getting just that instead of just hoping that anytime I kill ANY mob I get one of hundreds of items that don’t really have meaning. I like to have an item as a trophy and testament to what I had accomplished.

- Unique titles from completing events, dungeons, or bosses. I think some of these may already be implemented, but in future patches I would like to see new areas and challenging boss battles added to the game. These should reward cool titles with maybe a symbol next to your name when equipped, or maybe a greater display of medals in your hero menu or login screen.

- Hall of monuments, guild halls, or maybe Keep customization. This was a huge thing for me in Guild Wars 1. You could customize what heroes, armors, pets, and achievements you had on display in your HoM, and you were able to take your party in to see what you’ve worked hard for. Bragging rights. Guild Halls gave guildies a great place to hang out, and deck out with any or all NPCs they desired. It was a place to invite guests, to hang out and talk, and also served as battlegrounds in GvG. I think if they were introduced in GW2, they should be a little more customizable (guild banners where you like to have them on display, maybe statues of certain members or officers, NPCs, maybe color schemes, all a price of course). This could possibly be done with guild-claimed Keeps in WvW, however I don’t feel that keeps offer any sort of permanence as they used to in the beginning of the game. It seems that no one has incentive to upgrade a keep as it usually just gets flipped overnight in the server’s off-hours.

Regardless, that will give players not only reason to progress individually but gives a guild a good reason to progress as a group as they all are rewarded from it in a fashion that is evident and visible.

If I think of anything else, I’d gladly post but writing this up totally distracted me from what I had also thought up originally lmao

With full PVT set, and valkyrie jewels, I was hit by an an 8k Steal, 4.5k backstab, and then a 5k C&D the other day.

Funniest part was that even with the vitality gear I only have 16k HP.

:’)

I’ve played guardian since beta and I feel so gimped, especially with the latest meta. Even guardians don’t have nearly enough condition removal to counter condition spamming necros, rangers, mesmers, and thieves. The prominence of glass cannon characters in WvW and PvP simply shafts guardians (and warriors too occasionally). Conditions ignore armor, critical hits deal insane amounts of damage even against heavy armor. And even if we have the slightest chance of survival, we lack a lot of runaway skills, outside of retreat and the greatsword leap. Slow combat walk cripples guardians, yet thieves and d/d eles don’t seem to be affected by it….

I don’t know. I think necros, mesmers, and thieves really need to be tweaked. Or at least let the GUARDIAN live up to its name. Bigger health pool, maybe adjust heavy armor values. Defensive guardians have barely any offensive capabilities, and offensive guardians are way squishy. Possible solution: Next update when they add more ascended gear, possibly have heavy armor or guardian-exclusive gear include above-average vitality stats in comparison to other classes’.

Ranged Guardian Viable?

MouthForWar.4210

I run a scepter/torch build in WvW, and sometimes switch for a shield in heavy fights. Usually a staff or GS in the 2nd weapon set.

It is entirely viable, you own’t be super DPS oriented but it gives you a great platform to build a “support dps” build on. Meaning you can do damage, but your main role will be facilitating the damage from your teammates. The Immobilize on the scepter is ridiculously helpful at catching runners, the Smite AoE is a good steady source of damage, the autoattack is slow but it is the only ranged option we really have as guards and it can hit players on the walls of towers/keeps. Zealots Flame from the torch is an incredibly powerful skill with high crit chance and power.

I think it’s often overlooked. If you can play it well, I think it’d work out for you.

12v12 GvG, hopefully CTF, maybe some of the current game types, would be a total blast.

I don’t think it needs to be a tournament setting for guild pvp, as a lot of organized teams are probably going to be guildies, with the exception of a few last minute pug players (which are still usually pretty experienced)

I agree wholeheartedly with this post…. GW1 kept me playing for 7 years because of the PvP. GvG, Random Arenas, Team Arenas, Alliance Battles, Competitive Missions, Heroes’ Ascent…. the myriad of game types and options were just everything I could ask for from pvp. There was space for every player to thrive, at least when GW was in its prime.

I agree most with bringing back old school GW1 pvp but not exclusively. GW2 pvp has a nice feel, I enjoy it, it’s very user friendly, very easy to get started. Bit of a challenge to get seriously into. With some inclusion of GW1 style pvp, it’d be the perfect addition to GW2’s current systems that a lot of players are asking for, but without ruining it for the players that enjoy this current type of PvP.

Heya! My name’s pat, played GW2 since launch, and GW1 since a few months after release as well. Been around many games and PvP’d in nearly all of them.

In GW2, rolled with some of the best WvW guilds this game has to offer but got a little burnt out. Now I’m coming back from my hiatus, and really interested in structure PvP and finding a friendly team to do tournies with!

I’m really looking for a guild that is skilled enough to win but friendly enough to take a defeat. I don’t want teammates bashing each other, except jokingly. I want people I can learn from and people who want my help. That’s really all I could ask.

Currently have Lv80 Warr and Guardian, PvPing mostly with my guard. Only rank 10 as of now, but climbing pretty quickly and find myself holding my own against rank 20+ players.

shoot me a PM in-game or on here:

Hello all!

I’m Patrick, co-leader of DoP, an experienced and dedicated WvW crew looking to expand our roster with like-minded players.

We’ve got a lot to offer players seeking a better World vs. World experience:
- A chill atmosphere to play WvW competitively without stressing you out!
- Experienced members with good knowledge of the game. We can offer info, tips, training, and assistance. Or simply help you surround yourself with people who aren’t utterly clueless!
- Large alliance! We are part of a 5-guild (and growing) alliance, with a large Teamspeak 3 server with individual channels for each guild. TS3 is required, but you are not required to have a microphone. We just ask that you listen and understand.
- We’re currently working on websites and forums, and will offer more content for guildies outside of the game in the future.
- Our main interest is WvW, but we are not opposed to running dungeons, farming events, clearing zones, sPvP/tPvP, or even sitting around Lion’s Arch making small talk.
- People who care. We hold many workshops to develop new tactics, counters, builds, strategies. We work hard to keep up with and/or push the meta-game. You can become part of this game-changing force.

If you’re interested, you’ve got 2 options!:
- Post here with your in-game name, your main character’s level & class, and your usually timeframes of play.
- PM Kazak Blackpaw or Neo Juggernaut in-game.

Thanks for checking us out, hope to hear from you soon

I was really looking forward to this week. I was glad the halloween events came out but it really did ruin WvW. I expected such a high tier server like IoJ would be less interested in PvE and weapon skins.

Maybe I was wrong.

Hopefully we cross paths in the future when we’re not distracted though. I think SoS vs. IoJ vs. whoever else at this level really would be an insanely interesting matchup.

I had much fun playing SoR last week, but I’m not entirely sure I want to play a bitter SoR with a grudge next week

As a player who transferred to SoS with my guild, I can vouch that we came here fully intending to make SoS our new home. We came from PvE and sPvP servers, felt unwelcome and unfulfilled trying to WvW with a crowd like that. We made the best decision for our guild in the long run, and luckily enough the benefits are already coming to fruition.

Just as I have no doubt in my mind IoJ have many skilled players (quite a few of them destroyed me in some small fights, props to you guys. Had a lot of fun duking it out!) but are preoccupied with Halloween, or HoD was once a force to be reckoned with, I have no doubt that SoS (even before guilds transferred over) is home to many great WvWers as well. That’s why I’m here. The culture on the server is good. People are willing to try when we’re losing, and willing to keep up the pressure when we’re winning. Those are the people I want to play with, and I’m glad I finally found ’em.

SoR, you guys put up a great fight and I’m glad you’re challenging us! CD, I’m sure if you guys had more coverage and didn’t lose a few guilds you’d make some stiff competition as well.

Good luck to everyone, it’s been close every single day, can’t wait to see the scores at the end of the week.

I see people discussing the scoreboard and whether or not it would attract players more than WvW currently does…

I think it’d be nice. I think they should keep WvW as more of a turf war, basically going off of the pie chart than the actual points. You can WITNESS your team’s growth in the pie chart. Even by taking a few supply camps you can see your slice of the pie expand.

even currently, WvW isn’t entirely “rewarding”… People join and they can lose one single tower and think the server is going to fail forevermore, so they just leave. And they tell all their friends and guildies how dismal the situation is, and those guildies and friends don’t join either. It’d be better to keep people joining to make it so if someone looks at the map or score, the only thought that can really cross their mind is “well…. we don’t own much. But nothin’ we can’t just take back, right?”

Coming from a group that uses this tactic, I can say that the portals are not the bulk of our strategy. The portals are just a means of transportation.

It’s entirely possible to just watch your flanks and prioritize the biggest threats. PuGs in front of you vs. coordinated group with mez portal tactics trying to get behind you? Which threat would you rather disarm?

This is the one thing I agree with. Currently, my server is basically letting the other 2 send HUGE roaming parties (we’re so insanely outnumbered, its ridiculous) and any time they see a yak on the map, they send a roaming party out to slay it and sack our supply. Myself, my guildies, even the commanders on my server have tried to get people to start protection supply more, but there’s zero incentive whatsoever for people to do so. Apparently not being able to upgrade a keep passed reinforced walls for the entire week isn’t a good enough reason?

I think rewards need to be returned to dolyak running, but make them so minuscule that only the people who can’t do anything on the frontlines (low levels, and newbies to WvW) have an option that can actually help out their characters AND their team.

MouthForWar.4210

I agree with previous posters on the following: an elite shout, banners unable to be taken by players (outside the party maybe? I trust my party members with my flags…not entirely the case with randoms).

Personally, I want to see better longbow traits, or at least faster longbow attack speed. Out of all classes with a bow, I feel the warrior deals the least damage with it and attacks the slowest. The first skill with the longbow may shoot 2 arrows but even when specced as a glass cannon, they don’t do nearly as much damage as the rest of the weapons available to the warrior, especially because the attacks are so slow. some of the other skills seem to have pretty long recharge times as well, and there’s no traits to lessen the CD time. A 5% damage increase against burning foes, when the 2 skills I have available to cause burning are recharging most of the time, doesn’t seem like enough compensation. The longer range trait for longbow warriors also feels a little kittened, as arrows STILL drop off after a few meters, whereas ranger and thieves have similar or even longer range and can retain much higher mobility and damage output. I played longbow warrior all the way to level 80, and have stuck with it in most end-game content, but outside of playing a support banner warrior, I really don’t have many options with the longbow. I may be mistaken, but I was under the impression that this wouldn’t be the case in GW2. :/

I dare all of you to play as a longbow warrior in sPvP and report how many times you get owned vs. how many times you own someone else.

Then play a mesmer, or maybe a pistolwhip thief and then report your findings for those classes.

It’s not hard to understand or acknowledge. There are some ridiculously OP classes right now, and as a fan of the warrior class… it doesn’t feel good being laughed at and called useless by everyone in Heart of the Mists. Eviscerate/crit axe warriors were OP as hell in the beta, and now I feel like axes and greatsword warriors, while still considered overpowered within the class’ builds, are still weak in comparison to other professions.

I like that there is no power advancement, but the gear-grinders can still culminate around dungeons. That’s why there’s sooooooo many people farming and wearing CoF armor. It’s ridiculous.

But that’s fine by me. I’m more of a treasure hunter, and unfortunately I can’t find good loot without sacrificing my stats for magic find. I wish dungeons had a mode where instead of tokens you would receive an increased magic find bonus for every boss you kill so that as you progress through the dungeon, you will be getting better loot from monsters and even greater loot from the chests, but in order to get the best/most consistent treasure you’re encouraged to complete as much of the dungeon as possible instead of just speed-clearing a boss or two.

with any game really, the majority of players who post on the forums are usually the angry ones. the ones who are content with the game are often too busy actually playing the game they love to come here and post about it.

That’s why you’ll see more angry posters than ones with legitimately constructive criticism. There’s a big difference between those 2 things.

I have my frustrations with the game, as do most players, but its always the ones that have NOTHING BUT frustrations who seem to demand change.

Get Rid of "Downed" all together in PvP

in PvP

Posted by: MouthForWar.4210

MouthForWar.4210

I think it’s good in sPvP.

1) you down someone and move on, they COULD get up and take revenge. So you have to wager whether or not you want to switch targets or finish the one you were fighting first. That said, you could also take that opportunity. You can do a lot from the downed state. An ally can come revive you and depending on your profession, you could defend them while they get you back on your feet or you can heal yourself and get back up quicker.

2) If someone is too hungry for the kill on a downed player, they can easily be ganked if they make a poor decision and try to finish a person off while surrounded by other enemies. It’s more than just “Ok…I downed him, guess i’ll press F, get interrupted, then press F again.”

The only thing I think should be changed is that 1) people shouldn’t turn invulnerable for a few seconds when they are downed. 2) they should have less health/armor when downed so that if you are being constantly interrupted while trying to finish them, you have the option to just attack them normally until dead. You have that option now but sometimes it takes longer to regularly kill a downed player than it did to down them in the first place. I think you should get +5 bonus points for finishing them with a special move, but no bonus points for killing them conventionally. That way there is still incentive to finishing people off all fancy-like, but also incentive to just attacking them. It all depends on whether you value points or nullifying a threat more.

thieves and skill spam - get it right

in PvP

Posted by: MouthForWar.4210

MouthForWar.4210

I don’t give akittenif someone wants to spam an ability until they magically win. That’s their decision to play without taking into account the other 9 abilities they have. What I DO care about is that they shouldn’t be able to spam the ability and be completely unharmed. There should be ways to counter this other than a well-placed blinding skill before they can get off the first hit. Pistol whip is not OP because it does ridiculous damage…. It doesn’t hurt that bad actually. What does hurt however is that I am completely helpless if a thief cloaks and sneaks up on me then spams pistol whip. I can use a stun breaker but they can spam pistol whip fast enough that it just makes me waste my stun break, and another if I brought 2 along. Dead in seconds, and as a purely offensive guardian, and a very tanky control-based warrior, I don’t even have the ability to dish out that kind of damage or defend myself from it.

I made a thief and took it into PvP and felt like I was cheating compared to my experience playing other classes. That shouldn’t be the case. Pistol whip should be used as a stun, not as a damage dealer. If that change is implemented, then it would force thieves to use a combination of skills, also giving their target a small window of opportunity to fight back, block attacks, reflect damage, or do SOMETHING to negate the stun lock.

Why i dislike dungeons, and find them badly designed.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: MouthForWar.4210

MouthForWar.4210

I like the difficulty of the dungeons as they are. I suggest you try NOT to run dungeons with random people, as the general mentality is YOU HAZ TO BE THIS SPEC BECAUSE I PLAYED WOW AND THIS IS HOW WE DID IT THERE AND IF UR NOT SUPER L33T THEN WE DON’T WANT YOU BECAUSE YOU WON’T LET US RUN THIS DUNGEON IN 2 MINUTES OR LESS.

The dungeons are very unappealing to me with randoms. But with friends, it is extremely fun trying to play with our individual builds and our team setups and trying to actually COMPLETE the dungeon as opposed to speed clear it.

I agree that some of the world events make you feel minuscule and unimportant, and really the risk vs. reward proportions are ridiculously imbalanced. The Shatterer is a giant huge dragon champion, but if i stand to his side he can’t even turn and look at me or even send out an AoE to just destroy me. and I could auto-attack him to death along with the rest of the horde. Yet we’d only get a bunch of uncommon items, and maybe a masterwork IF LUCKY. I can go into Citadel of Flame and kill 3 bosses, and only receive uncommon items from all the chests again. Yet I can kill a regular Risen Corrupter and get a rare torch, mostly likely with crappy magic find and healing stats.

I just wish the drop rates/magic find rates were scaled up based on level of difficulty or tier of the chest (the big gold chests should drop better stuff than blues)… people don’t run the dungeons for the dungeon or the treasure. They run it for the tokens for some armor that everyone else is wearing. I feel like the real attraction of the dungeons is completely overlooked because there really ISN’T any attraction. No real reward to trying to clear as much of a dungeon as possible. No real reward in trying to slay a giant dragon champion. No real reward for trying to experiment and coordinate on a level beyond “make sure you have speed buffs so we can do this faster”.

so like automatically have a completely separate set of armor, traits, skills, etc. just ready to go at the click of a button? I mean…in theory that is a very convenient option, but I think it’s lazy and completely bypasses the purpose of the trait refund fee. If your traits within your 2 builds align, you CAN switch out your major traits on the fly, and it’s really not hard to change your weapons and armor either.
