I don’t think that aNet wants dungeons that take umpteen hours and multiple groups to conquer (Black Temple)… Stratholme after it became a 5 man was pretty cool, but no one ran the whole dungeon at once, you usually either did live or dead strat runs.

Huh… usually I’m pretty sympathetic to people who have trouble with a dungeon (like to offer help/suggestions to make it more fun). I generally and genuinely don’t understand the problems people have with AC though.

A few thoughts…

So I started with an Elementalist. Was running full glass cannon cause “that’s what google told me to do.” Got plowed, furrowed, and planted. I was a frickin’ vegetable garden in dungeons. Switched to a more tanky gearset/build… and it worked fantastic. After a few weeks of really enjoying dungeons, I discovered I really wasn’t taking damage anymore cause I knew all the attacks, had the timing down, etc, so I swapped back to my glass cannon build for optimal face pwnage.

The lesson here is don’t try to play the game like an expert if you aren’t one. There are ways to make things easier on yourself. No one is expecting you to be uberleet in a pug.

Then I got bored with Elementalist and rolled a Warrior…

It is incredibly stupid how much easier it is to play a warrior of any spec in a dungeon. This required next to no effort, most times I didn’t even have to bother dodging, and could just “be bad” and stand in the fire.

The lesson here is, seriously… switch to warrior… you will enjoy it a lot more if you have trouble in dungeons, cause you won’t… ever… again. Seriously… this game should be renamed Guild Warriors 2.

Other thoughts…

Learn your weapons, bring extra gear. So many fights can be made a lot easier with a weapon swap. For instance, as an Elementalist, if you only run dagger/dagger you are going to spend a lot of time dead, sometimes staff is best And a set of vitality,toughness,healing power gear can help a lot.

Don’t dodge every attack. You really don’t need to. Same for cure conditions. So what if you’re crippled if the boss isn’t AoEing or directly attacking you? Wait until you see a red circle or he turns your direction. For most (all?) classes, you should have a stunbreak/condition cleanse that has no activation timer.

As an aside… people who think WoW is easier than GW2 mystify me… did you not play during Vanilla, BC, or WotLK when many of the fights required absolute perfection for 15 solid minutes or you were going to be restarting? Nothing in GW2 required the kind of effort that WoW raid instances, or heroic dungeons did. I have no idea how it is now, I got tired of playing a game that required 30+ hours a week just to be competitive with other players.

CAVEAT EMPTOR

Lots of stuff in GW2 dungeons has way too much health. These are mobs that are not challenging, or difficult, they are often just very tedious.

Also… Mossman, and the Norn in CoE. They spend way, way, way too much time unattackable. Making me sit around and do nothing, or even just run around dodging forever… is not fun!

On a humorous note, I’d like to point out that the entirety of the run consisted of me yelling in panic in TS since I was really the only one that talked a lot (3 of the members didn’t have mics and the 4th was somewhat quiet). It was just 42 minutes of “whoooooah” “nnnnnehhhhh” and “oshioshioshibackupbackupbackup.” I don’t really think it contributed anything to our success except lighten the mood XD.

As one of Maestro’s best friends and frequent Skype-while-gw2-ing companion… this, 100% this. YOU HAVE NO IDEA how useless he is on Skype. The best parts are when he starts shouting “rez me, rez me!” After I’ve been dead since the beginning of a fight (usually cause someone… usually him… pulled while I was afk). Usually I end up threatening to hang up if he doesn’t stop talking

On a serious note… I’m still confused how this video is even news…. Is AC explorable really that hard? It’s designed to be run by lvl 35s…. This video just shows people completing the dungeon as intended. Not that there’s anything wrong with wanting to be a fully geared lvl 80 team and just steamroll it, that’s the group starter’s prerogative, but AC exp is totally doable by lvl 35 pugs. It may require a bit of effort, repeating a few bosses, and wiping once or twice until you figure out mechanics (it is difficult) but it’s totally doable. You’re not going to farm AC explorable at lvl 35 though, nor, I think, is it reasonable to expect that. It’s going to be difficult, as was the design intention for explorable mode dungeons from day one.

Oh I’m all for replacing swear words with other words. I think it is an interesting twist. Just wishing there was more than ‘kitten’. Especially now that I hear people using ‘kitten’ as a swear word

As a frequent forum reader (and slightly less frequent poster), it didn’t take long before I noticed the large number of ’kitten’s showing up in posts.

While I understand that something had to be done to filter out bad words, substituting ‘kitten’ all the time is clearly not the best solution.

Now on VoIP and in text chat, many of my friends/guildmates/etc… have started using ‘kitten’ in their everyday speech. As an all-purpose swear word it’s slowly but insidiously replacing all the four letter invectives I’ve come to know and love.

Some might consider all this ‘kitten’ an improvement, as ‘kitten’ is a relatively common word and used widely without censure in many domains of communication. But ’kitten’ing all over our forum posts has a darker side. as well. Too much ‘kitten’ has only made a relatively innocent word into an expletive. Soon, ANet may have to seriously consider filtering ‘kitten’ on its own forums!

By manner of solution, I suggest a random pool of words to use instead of simply ‘kitten’. It would add the spice of variety and lessen the unfortunate impact on the word ‘kitten’. I would like to see the following considered for addition to the ‘kitten’ list. In keeping with the ‘diminutive/young/cute animals’ theme, I offer:

‘puppy’,‘tadpole’,‘bunny’,‘piglet’,‘joey’,‘lamb’,‘pony’,‘panda’

Allow me to apologize in advance for the next part.

As entertaining as it is to read “What the kittening kitten is going on here?” I think it would be far more interesting to see “What the tadpoling lamb is going on here?” Or even “What the puppying piglet is going on here?”

I realize that changing the ‘kitten’ list in this manner might encourage an increase in swearing in the forums, a sort of profanity prompted ‘Mad Gabs’ game by the players. But I believe the risk is warranted to protect the against the growing ‘kitten’ malignancy.

Please consider my suggestion, for the sake of ’kitten’s everywhere.

Not too hard, just as soon as everyone has ressed say. “Ok guys, do this if you want to win, snow walls at the ramps, catapults behind the walls, this absolutely trivializes the event.”

Um so, just did this, and got all the gifts that spawn every 2 rounds, came out of there with 8 personalized gifts (1 per round + 4 at end) and 10 giant gifts (3, 2, 2, 3) from the mystery presents that spawn.

18 gifts is not bad, it’s not as fast as others.

Catapults are significantly better than ballistas. AoE 5k damage? Oh yeah.

When you report someone it says that if you report someone falsely, you could be punished. But in any case, ArenaNet doesn’t just take your word for it, they review chat logs when people file reports before taking any action.

Not sure if it’s already been said. But there is one reason and one reason only that people are so riled up about this chest. It is the elephant in the room as it were.

ArenaNet chose to make these chests a vehicle to distribute a radical number of precursor items, making many people instant “millionaires” as these items are still selling at ungodly prices. This was done in a much less dramatic sense during the Halloween event too, (there at least the best loot drops were thematic).

Here’s an idea, how about we don’t include items worth hundreds of gold in RNG one-time event chests? It’s all well and good to have vanity items related to the event, or twenty slot bags, etc… But you are just asking for drama when you make the chest have a chance to drop the most expensive items in the game by far. Do event themed items, and make them soul/account bound.

If you want to allow “unlucky” players to obtain the items, or people who couldn’t log in, put them on the cash shop for a reasonable fee based on the amount of gold you’re targeting the value of the item at, or the desired scarcity of the item. One system a friend of mine suggested is that the “final reward” for one-time events should be restricted to items like bags, or a large quantity of whatever the event “tokens” were. For example, if the Event-Themed Greatsword skin cost 2000 event tokens, then have the end boss drop an item worth 2000 event tokens.

I don’t envy your team either way, it’s a difficult thing to try and please the incredibly diverse player base of an MMOG. But only an idiot couldn’t have seen this coming, the instant I found out the chest dropped precursor items I said to my friends on skype, “Wow there is going to be a ton of drama over this.” Even if no one is saying it, it’s all about the precursors. People generally fight tooth and nail for items that they perceive to be worth quite a bit.
