Raid runs for newly returning players?

NL Dennis.9048

So, I’ve decided to come back after doing a couple of raids now myself, and I can give some tips to make getting into a raid easier for fellow players that seem to struggle finding one.

First off, it should always be without question that even if you never done these things before, you at least read into it, and/or watch a videoguide. This will help you greatly by being an actual asset to your team, and you won’t stick out like a sore thumb when you don’t seem to know what to do. Moving on, get familiar with the abbreviations used, you can check out the GW2Wiki for an overview and figure out a couple by yourself. Again, seeming to know this, will make you come across as someone who is clearly experienced.

Okay, so let’s assume you got the basic knowledge. You’re trying to get into a group, however you notice every LFG has li+a number in their description. This stands for Legendary Insight and is basically an item you get after killing a boss, and serves as ‘killproof’. As you join a LFG, they will usually ask you to link it. Now, there are two ways to get around this. The first one, is to be the LFG starter yourself. I’ve yet to encounter a PUG raid where people actually asked the group starter for killproof. To do this you will have to know valid group compositions for what you are attempting to tackle, of course. A second way is to go to Google, and look up GW2 chat code generators. Insert the Item Code for Legendary Insight, insert a number (take a random one and not the bare minimum as that will be too coincidental). Always try the Item Code out in chat yourself first, preferably in a solo Guild chat. If it works, keep it on copy/paste, and just fake it until you make it.

Do maintain some responsibility tho, and keep in mind that if you decide to ‘cheese’ it this way, you do have a basic understanding of what you are talking about and doing.

Raids can be fun, I can’t disagree with that. Hell in terms of PvE content it’s probably the only content I even consider at least a kittenallenging, which is a nice change and probably the only reason why I’m doing some PvE besides WvW now. I’m not sure Jerus if you are an NA or EU player, but on EU there seems to be a serious lack in PUG training raids. Only two or three Guilds come to mind that recruit/advertise with raiding for beginners and that actually live up to this. I’ve seen a bunch of Guilds that use raiding in their recruitment messages that do not have the amount of active players to back up those claims.

All in all, the PvE content is good, but the current lack or disinterest to teach/take newer people make raids for a lot of ‘solo’ players that don’t have a static, a once-and-never-again experience.

Fun story, although a lot of static groups aren’t willing o teach new people, chances are huge that they’ll ask you again if you fake your way in and come across as an experienced raider. This is because static raid groups are usually in dire need for experienced players, in general there really aren’t that many around. We’ve cleared Wing 1, without a single death/wipe, save a couple of downs, and I’ve been getting whispers ever since if I’m up to do some more. So if you happen to get into a group, and just do your best, and it works, you might have found yourself a static fairly quick.

You’re making the wrong assumption that either of us gave up Jerus. And salty, I’m sorry not everyone only highlights the good parts about the game, but rather speaks from experience about the current state. Have you opened a Forsaken Thicket LFG lately?

To dismiss the current issues with a simple ’it’s only true if you give up’ is a completely ignorant [and potentially dangerous] stance towards those current problems.

Like we both said, yes it is possible to do raids, and get a noob-friendly PUG, or a Guild that may or may not take you into their roster if they are doing raids that week. However, there are plenty of examples out there why raiding and getting a group as it is right now is a sour process.

For example, I’ve been LFGing for 8 hours today. Joined a random PUG once, things were off, people started raging at the healer, then the tank, as per usual. People ragequit, other people hang on, try to get new people to join, didn’t work, I left for dinner after. So don’t “assume” people give up without having any confirmation, and do not dismiss issues as, oh yeah you didn’t try hard enough.

Sadly, I have to agree with Dean above me.

I too am pretty much maxed in terms of gear, Ascended, 150 AR, you name it, however, I can’t get into a single raid, because they either 1) Require you to have a ton of LI (which, guess what, requires you to have done tons of raids already), or 2) Ask you to pay for them to let you join. Yes, that’s right. Selling raids at the moment is probably the most profitable ‘exploit’, with prices ranging up to 150G per boss kill (keep in mind, this isn’t even the full run, not even close).

Raids as it stands at this moment, as far as I can judge from LFG/map chat in the raid area is either, requiring you to have tons of experience in those raids already, hopefully finding a Guild that hasn’t yet experienced a lot of it and is forming complete beginner-raids, or being strong-armed into paying off others.

Ah yes, I’m based on the EU servers myself, for now at least. My old Guild moved to NA due to most of the players being NA themselves so I might rejoin them and move in a bit, but that’s all future planning for now ^^

Well, the term CC is nothing new to anyone that has ever played about any MMO, ever, I guess, and knowing what’s a CC skill, dear God, I do hope some people actually still read their skillbar/know what their skills do before they just start bashing their keyboard to spam them.

This goes back to the poor breakbar messaging for new players.

Remember when they added dodge trainers for new players?

Anet changed defiance to the breakbar mechanic with HoT, but didn’t update the learning/tutorial experience. Couple that with how easy to 1-80 game is, and with the fact thay’re enabling people to instant 80, and it’s no small wonder that people are walking in to GW2’s open world endgame with no clue how to actually play the game.

At the very least there should be a mandatory breakbar tutorial section in the first hoT mission, since prior to HoT breakbars exist, but since they’re just defiance replacements none of them are actually crucial to defeating the bosses and champs that have them.

I second this so badly. It seems the only way ‘new’ players, read, people that didn’t play the base game but joined on the HoT release, learn about the break bar mechanism is when people in smaller instances, where it is noticable if an individual isn’t pulling it’s weight CC-wise, gets cursed at for days because he’s not helping.

Usually only after that people realize, oh that blue bar thingy, I have to use CC to drain that before it’s actually handy to burst DPS at it. I personally returned to the game after a 1,5 year break, picked up HoT on the sale, but got used to the mechanic fairly rapidly due to, hey I see something new, let’s Google that. It is, however, poorly explained in-game actually and leads to a lot of instances wiping, open world events failing, when people do not actually know when/why they have to use their CC abilities.

Why so many bugs in Mordremoth fight?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: NL Dennis.9048

NL Dennis.9048

HEY! I dont know about the other bugs, But I DO KNOW how to overcome the last bug (the bug that actualy keeps you from finishing the boss, you know, the one where mordremoth and everyone else just stands after the final rift with caithe)

Alright, so your gonna need at least 3-4 people in your group. Its best if you have all 5 and for the love of god, try to stay alive until the end….once you do all the stuff your supposed to, like kick phantom Rylocks and Marjorys butt, and do all the flying around stuff…You will eventualy get to the final part which is the part that makes EVERYONE mad….Normaly, you would fend off the enemies while caithe creates a rift to knock down Mordremoths STUN guage, allowing you attack him….well, thats the bug…even after she does that, his guage never goes down so your stuck there, standing around with everyone else BUT I FOUND A SOLUTION!!! If you have 3-4 guys with you, go up to mordremoth and have everyone use stun/knockback/knockdown or something like that all at the same time…if you guys do you moves are Relatively the same time, you will overcome his STUN guage and the game will resume….but you NEED 3-4 people to do it and they NEED to use their stun/knockdown/knockback moves. or something just as equally strong in DPS. ANYWAY, i hope this helps. it helped me!

If we are talking about the normal mode, Revenant Staff 5 will drain Mordremoth’s entire bar whenever it’s up. It’s soloable.

NL Dennis.9048

Hello,

If you are experiencing hardships trying to finish the Hearts and Minds story mission yourself, or just need someone to leech the Flights of Fancy achievement from, send me an e-mail in-game and I will run the instance with/for you.

Reason for this is that I’ve seen a lot of people complain about bugs and being unable to complete the story by themselves, or having severe trouble trying to get some of the achievements by themselves.

Personally, I like doing the instance and have no problems doing it again for free to help other people obtain their achievements, so feel free to contact me in-game if you need:

  • Dream Warrior
  • Flights of Fancy
  • General storyline mission progress

As far as Migrain goes, I can’t help you with that by myself, as it is fairly difficult to solo-carry that in case of emergency.

Confused with the new salvaging.

NL Dennis.9048

If it was a Rare (yellow) rank item, chances are that this was either gear bought with Karma/Badges.

Items that require you to select stats on it first are salvageable after you gave them a stat set for as far as I’ve experienced with Carapace pieces for example.

Another side note: All that Cultural gear (which is gold-bought) isn’t salvageable as well.

The best bet to use rares that you can’t salvage in any way would be to Mystic Forge them as said before.

Just replying to the Crafting part.

Crafting is usually(!) a mechanic people use when they already have one or more Level 80 characters, and are just leveling their sidetoons, as you can effectively level your characters quickly with this to 80.

A website that offers Crafting guides with prices to level can be found at GW2 Crafts.
(I suggest only looking at 1-400, as 400-500 is expensive, and only really viable IMO if you are aiming for Ascended equipment)

Furthermore you can use the Crafting section on GW2 Spidy as means to find Crafting items that net you some profit. Please note that Crafting for money is a daunting task. As it stands right now, Crafting is (usually) a process that just costs you money, and with some luck you might break even.

Low FPS W/ New System?

Another suggestion that might(!) help, is to go into msconfig through the “run” interface and disable all non-system processes/applications on start-up, so you’ll boot your computer with only the much-needed processes running, which can save you a lot of CPU.

Not sure if it is of much help to GW2, but I always do this on default when heavily gaming, to minimize the strain on my computer from processes I’m not using.

100% map completion advice/help

in Players Helping Players

NL Dennis.9048

Hello SlingDash,

It is true that trying to explore WvW maps as a solo player can become extremely tedious. How I completed mine was running with the main zerg or blob, depends on how you would like to call them, when they are raiding the Enemy Borderlands. Then break off every now and then to capture the vista’s in enemy fortresses when your blob captures them.

This of course is also relying on your current match up. If your server is up against stronger opponents in WvW and your server can’t capture a lot of their Home Borderlands, you will have to wait and hope for an ‘easier’ match-up the next week.

Furthermore, if you are looking for players to tag along with you, please keep in mind you will need to state the server you are playing on, as WvW maps are server-specific. Please do not get your hopes up if you only have a small inexperienced group to capture Garrisons tho. Towers/Keeps shouldn’t be too hard to do, but you will find Home Borderlands Garrisons to usually be well-guarded and sieged, so you will need a decent zerg/blob to capture those.

Go out there and avoid those pesky Thief roamers!

Both Divinity’s Reach and Lion’s Arch are heavily packed with people if you’re looking to meet new people.

Besides that, and I know this isn’t a recruitment thread, my old main Guild [NUDE] transferred to Blackhaven a couple of weeks ago. If you want to meet new people, I suggest joining them. I’m no longer a part of their Guild as I remained on my own server for WvW purposes, but they do have 100+ Members, do Missions actively, have a vibrant Guild chat and a seperate Facebook page, Teamspeak, you name it.

So if you are still looking for a new community to get back in the game with, they would be a good bet for you to join, as I can imagine your Guild also became inactive coming back after such a long time.

[NUDE] is NOT the guild for you...

Posted by: NL Dennis.9048

NL Dennis.9048

I’m considering joining at the moment, although I’d have to buy a server transfer first. I’m currently based on Fissure of Woe and used to do a lot of WvW, also as a Commander, but since the migration of my old WvW guild and no new guild to take it’s place, WvW is now basically dead content on FoW.

Because of that I don’t really see a problem with transferring so expect me to be on FSP sooner than later.

Edit: Transferred to FSP
