I logged in the day after Christmas and the game loaded fine. A couple of days after that, there was a patch and now the game hangs right after I select a character. The loading screen for the city pops up and then it freezes up my computer for about five minutes. Can’t kill it with task manager, just have to wait for it to kill itself. All my drivers are up to date (honestly the first thing I checked). I tried all of my characters and none of them will load.
I am not getting any error codes since the game is basically crashing to desktop after about five minutes of hanging. I also notice that the client continues to run in the task manager using up quite a lot of memory. I can’t kill it at all.
I am running Windows 8 Pro 64 bit on a core i7 with 12 gigs of ram and a Radeon HD 5800 video card. Had absolutely no problems until this last patch. What can I do? And what other information should I supply?

Kitten laude…that is too funny. I had to read that twice to figure out what the automatic sensor just sensored.
Tried 4 or 5 times, then said “nope, I’m’a farm some more candy corns.” Been happy since.
When I made this map I was HOPING that people who aren’t into jumping would do exactly this. They’d see a fun Halloween looking environment, maybe get to the first chest and snag a goodie, then be on their merry way. I see now it was a mistake to make the hardest jumping challenge in the game part of an in-your-face update like a holiday event. I’m not going to stop making difficult stuff like this, they just won’t be so prominent in the future. I honestly hate making people upset and have a very high level of empathy. So it’s been hard hearing all the people that are so angry, frustrated and sad because of something I’ve made. But it’s just another lesson learned.
Please don’t feel bad. You created an awesome level. I just spent the last two hours attempting it and only ever made as far as the leap of faith part. I was frustrated as hell, but I felt good about getting farther and farther every time. At one point I found myself not really paying attention because I had memorized it. That was pretty cool and kinda zen. So, it’s not for everybody, so what? People are going to talk about this puzzle forever and I think that is wicked cool.
Also, everyone I was running it with were having a really fun time in chat. That’s got to count for something too.
Ditto. Stuck at 4/5. I’ve done everything except for completing the Tower.
Funny, I just jumped right in without reading. Ended up in dungeon all by me onesies. I had all but two mobs and the king down before I lost all of my gear. Went back with a group right after.
That’s not what I saw on my screen either. I heard him but didn’t see him. This makes it a little better, I guess.
Broke every single piece of gear I had. Literally was naked by the time I got down to just two mobs plus the king. WTF?
Play with your level 80 main. There was enough time since headstart to get to level 80 with at least 1 char. If you did not buy the game early and started leveling early then it is your problem.

I don’t have a level 80 main (my highest is 32 and I have another that’s 29). I pre-purchased the game and I have been in since beta. I don’t rush through content just to get to the highest level. No biggie. I just think the devs should have made it clear at what level players would be able to complete certain events so we don’t waste our time. This was never meant as a complaint just a genuine question is all.
Funny, just had a similar discussion on the map chat about this. When I started the hunt I assumed I would be able to complete it as a level 33. I was lucky to stumble into some large groups doing the level 40 stuff, but no luck after that. When I discovered that some of the clues lead you to level 50 areas I was confused. I was then pounced on by some players in chat for bringing up the fact that nowhere was it mentioned by the devs that you would have to be a higher level to complete the scavenger hunt. Oh well, on to other things I guess.
So, are lower levels just not supposed to be able to finish collecting the pages? I am only level 33 and can’t get to some of these places without dying.
Must be exciting for ANet to see so many people excited to play their game.

Wow, crashy, crashy
I just played last night and everything was fine. The launcher downloaded an update, I launched the game and played for a few hours. No issues whatsoever. This afternoon, I logged in (there was no update) and after hitting the play button all I get is a black screen. The only way to get back to the desktop is to kill GW2.exe in the task manager. I already went through the process mentioned in the ATI video card post. There was nothing for me to change in Catalyst. I am currently running the game advisor program but just wanted to see if I am the only one with this problem today. I have attached the test.txt to this post if anyone is interested. Will also open a ticket in a bit.
