My ping fluctuates heavily, going from my normal 50-60 to over 2.5k.. sometimes gathering is fine, skills execute when they should, then all of a sudden everything freezes for 5-10 seconds.

Well, the Food from the Provisioner will cost 10 WvW Ranks to unlock.
You have to compare the time it takes to gain 10 WvW ranks to farming 1 Reward Track. Don’t think it’s all that different.

(Not everyone has unlocked the Provisioner already).

So finally able to log in.. The chests did not reset.

This means my friend that completed Diamond before the patch, “lost out” on 190 Tickets compared to someone that starts doing the chests now.
I completed Mithril 4 already, meaning I’ve “lost out” on the 52 tickets I would’ve gotten from the first 4 Mithril ones, on top of the 92 Ticket increase from completing Wood -> Platinum.. That’s 144 Tickets.. But I’ll still get 46 tickets more than my friend.

This is unfair all over the place.. Whose bright idea was it to implement the chest change in the middle of the week instead of at reset night? And how will this be “fixed”? Just let it remain unfair all across the board?

It’s one week…..

It’s still an extra week+ of tickets for some… and nothing for others.
It’s a terrible decision to implement a change like this mid week and that needs to be called out, if nothing else with the hopes that NEXT time they will THINK before doing something like this again.

And that would be great, but patches are always on tuesdays. Everyone knows this. And when they got fixed an issue on a Friday, people RAGED.

My point is, there IS no good time.

I just don’t think this is worth the vitriol some are dishing out. I was into diamond chest when this hit, so yeah, I am potentially missing out on upwards of 150 tickets. But it’s not worth my frustration.

OTHER things in the game are. This isn’t. That’s all.

Actually, the only good time to change rewards from something that resets on a weekly basis is on reset night.. and I would much rather have a tiny extra patch on Friday than this bs. Besides, WvW:ers rage every time they patch something that kicks them out of WvW. It doesn’t really matter what bloody day it is, any tiny bugfix that forces a restart at 4 am will make people QQ, so I don’t feel it’s much of a reason to do something this thoughtless.
And yes, people knew the patch was hitting Tuesday, which is why I’m assuming quite a few people rushed to finish their chests (since they reset last time WvW was patched on a Tuesday).

no more Ticket cap , i just got 14 tickets on the first Diamond Chest after finishing diamond tier.

This is unintended. There is supposed to be a weekly ticket cap and we will be fixing this.

Out of curiosity, why is unlimited ticket potential not a desirable feature? The psychology of a weekly cap makes the grind feel much longer, when in reality many of us (especially those who aren’t receiving double pips through years of backlogged WXP) won’t actually be playing enough WvW for it to be relevant. Additionally, the closest analog to tickets, ascended shards of glory, don’t appear to be similarly gated with a seasonal max. I’d love more insight into the thinking behind some of the differences in design choices between the two paths.

I’d say, because of people like me.
If there was no weekly cap I’d struggle to do anything but WvW even when I’m not in the mood for WvW “just cuz Shinies!”, “gotta get most possible tickets!!”, and that is not healthy gaming. Now I hit the cap and don’t feel “obligated” to do more WvW that week and can focus on other things in the game that I enjoy more at that time. Sure, it can be WvW, but that’s not always what I feel like doing, all the time. I really hope the cap goes back in, if it’s increased though that is perfectly fine, but there has to be a cap.

I finished the gold and plat chest earlier today before the update so I missed out on a bunch of tickets. Oh well, the pip and ticket increase in this update was desperately needed.

Oh I totally agree the increase was needed, and I’m loving the fact that the rewards are not as focused on the last chest of each tier as they were before, I’m just kind of upset such a huge change is implemented on a Tuesday (which unfairly benefits those that had time to finish their chests early this week) instead of at the weekly reset (which would’ve been fair for all).

So I’m skimming through the Patch Notes and come across this change;

WvW Skirmish Claim Tickets have been reduced in the last chest of each division but have been added to every chest.

My immediate thought is “Yay! Nice change!” but then I start thinking about it;

How and, probably more importantly, when, will this be implemented?

I am hoping it will be on Friday during the weekly matchup changes and the anticipated reset of the chests, since otherwise this could be problematic for some players and unfairly beneficial for others.

What happens if I already finished Diamond? Does the chests reset to Wood and allow me to obtain them all again? 350 tickets for those that “nolifed” the first days and didn’t have jobs to go to in the morning? Less tickets to those that were counting on having until Friday as usual and therefore didn’t go “all in” the first few days?

If the chests do not reset, what if I finished 5/6 Mithril? Does that mean I now “forfeit” the tickets from the first 5 Mithril chests and only get the “reduced” ammount from the 6th Mithril chest?

Hopefully you already thought about all this and either set a cap so people still can’t gain more than 175 tickets this week, or delay the changes to the chests until next reset.

Won’t the “expansion updates” to WvW (as always) be new runes, new sigils, new abilities, new builds on characters, new stats on armor/weapons etc etc.. The Mists is sort of separated from the rest of Tyria so why would it change just because we enter a new map in the open world? I don’t remember there being a major WvW update at HoT launch either other than the obvious changes to the previously mentioned. All the major updates came later on, but feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.

The popup you get if you click the little symbol in the bottom right corner of your screen states that if you pre-purchase you will gain the Ambassador title, but the title you actually receive is Elonian Envoy. Nothing wrong with the Envoy but might wanna fix it asap.

No, I don’t want it added to World Completion again, but make the maps separately completable – like Dry Top or Silverwastes?

Since you didn’t remove the Vistas, PoIs (obv helpful for sending people to the right place), and HPs.. It irks me to not be able to see how many I still need to “complete” it. :P

It doesn’t even have to have a huge reward for completing it, city map completion or something would do nicely.

We actually do play on EU servers quite often so keep an eye out for us.

I suppose you might be incognito at times aswell, but I’ve only ever seen an ANet tag once (atleast after game went live, might’ve been some around during Betas), and I’ve been on the same server since the game launched. :o
Makes it all the more special when it happens though I suppose.

It’s items ment for players that spend a lot of time in WvW. And maybe have spent hours a day for years doing mostly WvW.

Surely there can be no harm done having very hard to obtain items for those players?

For the rest there are tons of weapons and backpacks from pve raids, fractals etc etc that the WvW:ers rarely put in the time getting.

Problem is; it’s not a “very hard to obtain item”. It’s a more or less time consuming item based on things largely out of your hands.

Completing Diamond chest (1450 pips) each week, completely ignoring Outmanned as it’s kinda random atm, will take between 120 hours and 50 minutes for a “wood” rank on a 3rd place server with no additional bonuses (1/tick), to 10 hours 5 minutes for someone with all bonus pips possible on a 1st place server (12/tick).
There’s a pretty huge gap in time commitment between a “newbie” and a “veteran”.
And granted, the wood rank will get the +1 bonus the 2nd week, but over 60 hours /week is a pretty big commitment, it is a full time job and a half for crying out loud! :’D

I’d rather get rewarded based on the amount of work done, not just a passive PiP.

Leave passives as they are, add a small amount of bonus pips to things like capping a camp, tower, sentry etc (basically anything that already rewards WXP). Atleast give some extra rewards to actively roaming around doing things as opposed to semi afk:ing.

And please increase rewards for higher tier objectives.. Why does a paper tower give the exact same reward as a Tier 3? BS imo.

The issue is 2 people can be running around on the same map from the same server, in the same guild, doing the same things…
One has Outmanned, the other does not. 1 tick passes, 2 ticks pass, 3 ticks pass.. the first still has Outmanned and has not lost it a single time (signaling we are still outmanned on that map) but the 2nd person has not obtained the buff at all.
I don’t know if people that have it are keeping it even though they should have lost it, or if people aren’t gaining it even though they should have, or if it’s a hidden “debuff timer” that keeps you from obtaining it for a fixed ammount of time (for me it seems to be around 20 ish minutes after swapping to a map from another WvW map, or having left WvW temporarily for one reason or another, but this could be completely RNG).

If I however join a map when not having any Participation at all, it seems to get applied as it should (after first tick even if it only takes 20 seconds for the tick to happen).

At 23:54 I swap map from GBL (Alpine) to RBL (Desert). We’ve played most of the night on the same BL.

It takes until 00:09 before I get Outnumbered even though, yet again, people around me are running around with the buff the entire time..

That is three ticks.. -.-

Also when playing with my friend we are on the same server so if he keeps the buff I should have it too after a tick has passed.

Outnumbered buff

This seems to either not be removed properly each tick, or not be applied properly each tick.

I was on DBL, got Outnumbered after a while.. then relogged to transfer an item from one toon to another.
I go back on the same map. I see people around me with Outnumbered buff. Figure I’ll get it next tick.
I don’t. People around me still have it.
I wait another tick. Nothing. People around me still have it.
Another tick, and another.. same thing.
6th tick, I gain the buff.. People around me haven’t lost theirs a single time.

Same thing happened after I swapped map last night to assist in protecting a Keep/Garri.. Friend had Outnumbered the entire time, it took me a good 20-30 mins to gain the buff.

I’m assuming this isn’t intentional cuz it doesn’t seem to work the way I understood the description. Or is there a “punishment” timer for changing map? Didn’t read anything about that.. :/

As someone who relied on outnumbered pips to finish my chests for the week, this update is demoralizing and completely unnecessary. I never switched to outnumbered maps just before the tick hit for pips; I always spent the entire 5 minutes in the outnumbered map solo roaming. Now there’s no way to tell which map has the outnumbered buff, so it’s just a guessing game of how much time I have to waste before realizing that a map isn’t actually outnumbered.

tl;dr it was fine the way it was before, dont fix what ain’t broken

Or you honestly think that spending 1 tick (a whole 5 minutes) to find out if a map is Outnumbered or not, and actually 100% receive the bonus for playing on an Outnumbered map the followikg tick(s) is worse than spending an hour on an Outnumbered map but only getting the bonus pip 3-4 times due to other people mapswapping in the last 10 seconds? Really? Perhaps my server and those we’ve been matched up with have been ectreme when it comes to hunting Outnumbered buffs last second but I for one think this is an excellent solution to a problem that was extremely frustrating.

The only real difference I noticed to Participation tonight was that it took a bit longer to get it up.. And I’ve been duo/solo roaming on BL pretty much all night. T6 all the time, even when I popped out to do some Home Instance farming and daily crafting.. I am wondering what people are doing if they have seemingly huge issues with decay. 0.o

We made a change to the way Outnumbered works that should help this feel a lot less bad. Outnumbered is now applied each scoring tick (every 5 minutes). Swapping to a map right before a tick will no longer grant an Outnumbered pip bonus. Instead, you must play on an Outnumbered map for an entire tick to earn the bonus.

See this sounds reasonable. Why all the fuss?

I think the issue is that the details are fuzzy. Sure, it is very clear map-hoppers won’t get the bonus pip by swapping maps at the last second, but…for those that have been on the map during that 5-minute tick, at what point must there be an Outnumbered status for the bonus pip to occur? Does it only need to pop right at the end? Does it need to be there all 5 minutes? What if it’s there almost the entire 5 minutes and at the last second someone pops into the BL to see what’s up and the buff goes away…does that mean the bonus goes away at that last second, negating 4 minutes 59 seconds fighting Outnumbered as it did before? I guess we’ll know more in playing the next few days, if we’re lucky enough to see Outnumbered. To me, it’s still a just an occasional perk for those that prefer to fight on enemy BLs, but it’s not one you can count on reliably because map populations can shift rather quickly.

From what I’ve experienced tonight after each tick it “checks” if you’re outnumbered. If you are at that moment, it applies Outnumbered buff. If you’re not it removes it. It stays/is gone until the next tick happens.

And yea nobody values WPs anymore— there was actually a huge moral debate about the ethics of using WvW or PvP to go to Lion’s Arch, and thus bypass a waypoint fee. It was pretty silly if you look back on it. And even stuff like t3 cultural has become a curious oddity of the past.

I totally did that though. It saved like 2 silver!! Usually used the PvP lobby though. Then again nobody used WvW for it if there was a queue.. xD

And personally, I think I’ll be doing the t2 for quite a while since it actually seems like a good way to get ascended armor. Sorta. Better than crafting.

Yeah you wish.. The tokens required to “buy” it though still require you to craft… with a maxed out crafting profession matching the armor you wish to buy. Another silly decision by ANet imo. Ascended from vendors was initially a way to bypass crafting for those that really really hated it, but now ofc it requires almost more crafting to “buy” an Ascended armor than to just craft it.. You will probably save like 5-10g/piece though, however the timegated materials are doubled (atleast on some armors). Gl with the T2 either way.

So you are saying that people like me, who DONT have agony trinkets, DONT know the map rotations, DONT know the boss mechanics, DONT know the shortcuts, DONT know the gear combinations, DONT know where to even go to play fractals of the mist has it “easy” to get the PvE her0 gear?

WvW never gets anything nice. Our achievements takes YEARS to complete due to the ridiculous amount of kills/escorts/flips you need. And we get rewarded with nearly nothing. So when WvW finally gets a good reward for the countless hours it takes to get where we are, then you have no right to come here and cry bully your way to make it easy.

Your whole post is infact a giant “middle finger” to all WvW players, past and present.

The issues with your argument: You’re acting as if you need to be able to start a lvl 100 Fractal to obtain the Fractal Backpack. You don’t. You don’t have to earn a single level in Fractals.. You can start the collection off without ever having set foot in there before.
The only thing that will in any way gate you is Agony resistance. You know how to get this? Buy 3072 +1 Agony Infusions go trade them in for 12 +8 Agony Infusions and 6 +9 Agony Infusions at the INFUZ-5959 golem inside the Mistlock Observatory. It’ll cost you ~63g 50s. Apply Infusions to armor and trinkets. Done. You can now complete all Backpack related achievements.
You compare that to grinding rank 2000 in WvW? Please allow me to snicker a bit.

That doesn’t change the fact that potential AP is still lower for new players.

Various special events gave 25 points for doing the meta and it wasn’t very hard. While nowadays it doesn’t give nearly as much. Those were legit ways to pad out AP though while not a big deal, certainly rubbed a few the wrong way.

Some achievements reward little to no AP for a lot of work, others reward a lot for almost no effort. I actually just finished the “Current Events” one called “Disturbance in the Depths” with the 5 followup “Sensor Scouter” ones.. Easy 30 AP in ~1 hour, and neatly finished off my 30k before my vacation. But yes, a lot of achievements are no longer available, which sucks, however: because people did complain about the LS Season 1 and how it worked it was changed for Season 2 and Season 3.

Sure. A new account.. Assuming you get into a guild with the WvW booster.. Lvl 80 Booster gives you 1 Celebration Booster. Day 19 of logins gives you another.. so on day 20 you get to enjoy a grand total of 3 hours of 110% WvW XP. Then what? Back to 10% bonus for 30 days until you get another 1.5 hours?

That runs under an assumption that a new player is going to immediately aim for end game goals which would make little sense. A level 10 running out of Queensdale is probably not going into WvW. And this is my main problem with any “new player” comment. When you’re an established player with certain wants and needs, and try to project that new players have the same ones as you at this point in time.

It is honestly not a good habit, because that spreads misinformation that it is impossible to get anything in this game while there are tons of low hanging fruit (even in WvW here, such as the t1-t2 and even the legendary backpiece) that sport lesser requirements.

A new player can also make 5 character slots, and receive birthday boosters every year. They also can get XP boosters from AP chests (easier to gain AP when you are new) and get some from the box of WvW supplies. And these aren’t the crappy “XP from kills” we had. This is just straight up WxP boost.

In a year, they’ll have 5 birthday boosters, for a good 120 hours, 12 celebration boosters, for another 12 hours. And some from AP chests. If they managed to get the Ley-line converters they may have even more boosters, and even have some World Ranks without even going into WvW

Old players, regardless of WvW or not, didn’t always have it like that. They also didn’t get 2 gold for just doing dailies.

The emphasized bit is why I responded the way I did.
I also doubt they’re gonna look at the WvW stuff and go “yup, that’s what I’m gonna set my sights on!” the first week.. but they are likely to try out the game mode. If they even realise to save this Celebration Bonus.. To us it’s obvious that it’s best spent in WvW, but a new player might not realise that.

Most new players also don’t realise that you even get birthday rewards. Even fewer make 4 extra characters just to get these rewards.

And yes, I know very well how little gold you gained at the start.. Ever hear of a new player now not being able to afford to use the nearest WP? Yeah, me neither. Was pretty common at the start. I even remember having to borrow 2 copper from a friend to afford armor repairs.. Think my first lvl 80 reached max with like 50 silver in her pocket.. Making 5 gold from the TP when selling stuff, was enough to buy Abyss Dye! The struggle to afford Order Armor for, 8g or something? Just looking at the costs for Tier 3 Cultural…

You can’t compare it to AP though, since all people started with 0 buffs from AP when they were introduced and all had to grind their way to their rewards.
As I said, it’s not a problem that there’s a grind, so if everyone started with 0 WvW Rank and the armor was the 2k reward, fine. But that’s not the case.

1) Why not give WvW:ers something that lets them show off their ACTUAL rank range instead of just “I’m over 2k!”? Badge, Title, something displayable inWvW and non WvW areas..?
2) The average joe still needs to spend 750 HOURS doing WvW to be able to buy this armor set, just due to the TICKETS, so stop using the Rank requirement as some sort of “makes the shiny-hunters run away” argument. If you’re not already deterred by those hours you’re not going to be deterred by the rank requirement. 99 weeks of grinding if you want all the shinies.. Will you be rank 2000 by then? Probably, but that isn’t the point;
3) Rank requirement should go flying out the window since it’s an unfair “advantage”, which does not exist anywhere else in the game. It’s simply “rewarding past effort” and giving some people an unfair advantage over others. That’s why it’s bad. If it was a new rank, that everyone had to get, it would be fine (like the tickets), but it’s not.
4) Vets are already rewarded by extra pips.. Again, where in the game did something else get added in that rewarded past effort this much? Nowhere.

Im sorry that you guys found out that wvw is actually about fighting this late but its fun try it.

Who said anything about that? Did I say a zerg fight wasn’t a zerg fight if your side is defending something? Did anyone?
And another key question; How many zergs show up at the right time if nobody scouts for them? Let’s them know where the enemy zerg is heading? That they’re kicking down the north door and not the south? Saves them from wasting their time when those crossed swords is nothing but a Thief kicking a guard’s butt? If nobody pulls that EWP when they’re inside the Lord’s room, then what? But doing that work shouldn’t be more rewarding?

I have played WvW on and off since the first open beta. I am well aware what WvW is about. I have also spent more than enough hours in there, after WXP was introduced to begin with, to notice that some nights, while fun and rewarding in themselves, are not rewarding on the WXP front AT ALL. Other nights, while a bit more monotonous but still quite enjoyable due to the whole feeling of “zomg we are totally wrecking them!” reward tons of ranks in very little time.
I have ran with small zergs, I’ve ran with big zergs, I have scouted, I have sieged up Towers, I have “karma trained”, I have roamed around flipping camps and killing dolyaks.. I have decided to make sure a Keep reaches T3 with nothing but another guildie, some speedy dolyaks, and the hopes for a quick response from the borderhopping commander to save our kitten if needed. There is nothing in this game mode I have not spent atleast 100 hours doing, so please, stop telling me I don’t know what I’m talking about, I don’t know how to gain WXP, I don’t know how to “have fun” in there etc.. I do, it’s just that having fun and gaining WXP don’t always correspond with one another. Neither do being useful and gaining WXP, and I find that to be a pretty huge issue. Shared Participation is a good thing, but I’ve never gotten it and I’m pretty sure a lot of others have that same issue. I also don’t even know if it rewards WXP in the first place, or just simply keeps your Participation from dropping off.

It would also be nice if people talking about how “easy” and “fast” it is to gain these 2000 ranks, would quit assuming everyone has every booster available at all times, that’s not realistic.
Most people will not have boosters, or their boosters will go to waste because you can’t decide for everyone else on your server and the enemy server to adapt to what you want to do when you pop it. Even if you wait with popping it until people are doing what you want, there’s no guarantee things won’t take a different direction 5 minutes later. I’ve gained 70 ranks in a sitting, once, with all boosters that were available at that time. It’s hardly something that happens often though and it involved a LOT of flipping keeps, SM, towers etc, consecutively. We took them, lost them, took them back. All night there was little or no defense on any front. Other times I’ve popped my boosters and gained not a single rank due to bad luck; getting wiped, getting targetted early in the fights, lagging at the wrong moment, simply being outnumbered on all fronts, getting double-teamed, disconnecting and spending the entire booster duration getting back into WvW.. Whatever, kitten happens. Boosters are nice but not always reliable.
Also.. will I personally be at rank 2000 by the time I have enough tickets to buy the Armor? Probably. Not far off anyway. I still think it’s way too high for anyone just starting out and it’s unfair to a lot of people simply based on the fact that people get rewarded for PAST work, which is unique in this game. If it was a thing across all game modes, fine, but it’s not.

As for rank being a “long term goal” that you just have to grind for if you want all the shinies; I already have to spend 99 weeks grinding enough WvW to unlock the Diamond Chest to get all the shinies. I’m going for all the shinies. You think my complaints are due to the grind being too much? Hah. Anyone not in it for the long haul is already deterred by the long time it takes to get the tickets. But atleast that is FAIR to everyone and therefore I have no complaints about it. The ticket grind is somewhat equal for all due to the weekly cap. GOOD THING.
Veterans are already rewarded for their contribution simply by earning their pips much faster, they’re not being overlooked just because this rank requirement is lowered. And even if it is lowered to 1k, it will be miles away for anyone entering WvW today, while still corresponding to the only “true” initial milestone when it comes to WXP; unlock all WvW Abilities.. Why shouldn’t “I now have all WvW Abilities unlocked” be enough to be awarded the ability to buy this thing?
Honestly, all rank above that is nothing but kitten and would be better rewarded by you highrankers being able to display a little medal (like from sPvP rank) or even a title next to your name. Atleast that would let everyone know how much dedication you’ve actually shown, cuz if you look at it in the end, the armor will just say you’re “2k+”. Nothing else.

I don’t really care if the damage is intentional or not, it’s perfectly fine if it is. However, if my AC is taking damage from Burning or Bleeding, I want to see that debuff on it. I know I can see it when my own team applies it to enemy siege, so it should be visible for those owning it too imo. I don’t want it to mysteriously take damage for unknown reasons. So this I would like a fix for.

Fair enough point. I don’t think retaliation has any indicator to the object it’s damaging. But I thought damaging conditions showed up, no?

Unless my own AC last night went from 100% health to 60% in about a minute without ever getting a debuff, it does not. Strongly doubt all of that was Retaliation (which I also believed was removed as a dmg source for siege but might have been reinstated ages ago for all I know).

If only repairing walls would give wxp…Yes it is very important to lose zergfights to maintain the first place. Do you happen to play on Drakkar? Because that would explain a lot.
Seriously wining zergfights is the best way to get wxp and the core of wvw.

They do, but running from whatever broken wall you have to the nearest capped camp is
1) risky as you might get killed on the way by a group of roaming thieves or run over by the enemy zerg.
2) too time consuming for it to be a viable way to earn WxP.
Result? Grab the nearest supply, which drains the tower/keep/castle. Popular? Nopes.

And yes, zergfights are fun and a great way to earn WxP, it’s just that not everyone can do that or WvW will become EotM with no defense, no scouts, just running from place to place to flip or fight the enemy zerg.

And whoever mentioned it; I don’t know if I get WxP from Shared Participation, cuz so far I’ve never been promoted in any squad I’ve been in when asking..

Only 2% of the total population (115k players) of gw2 has rank 2000. The average rank of all players is rank 47. You could craft 3 full sets of legendary armor from raids faster then you could go from rank 0-2000 with no boosters. Please address this Anet.

Nothing to address. I hit 2000 today. I’ve been playing WvW for about three years.

No, read the whole post. I got 100 ranks in a week. If you want rank, you can get rank. Your selective attempts to justify lowering the requirement are the reason I posted, they’re disingenuous. Which you proved by selectively quoting my post and claiming it supported your point.

Yes 100 ranks, in 7 days. With boosters. +160% WvW rank then? So without any boosters you would’ve gotten 38.5 ranks in that week for the exact same ammount of work you put in. At that pace rank 0 to 2000 would take you 52 weeks..

But then if you’re running around defending camps from roamers, or sieging up a keep, or scouting, or do those other important but severely underrewarded things you can do in WvW, you don’t get those 38 ranks in a week unless you put in a LOT of hours. Took me over 2.5 hours to gain 2 ranks tonight.. If I look at this matchup (so over 4 days) I’ve averaged less than 1 rank / hour. 28 ranks in 33 hours to be exact. All comes down to what job you perform for your server. Would be nice if people doing the crappy jobs also got rewarded by WvW XP but they don’t as things are now.. xP

It’s a lot easier to get now than it was before, actually. The way it is now, you can get your GoB in 1-week or so. Whereas in the old days, you needed 500 Badges of Honor. Which in my hayday were only offered through player kills and the Obsidian Sanctum jump puzzle daily chest. So you literally had to kill hundreds of players and do the puzzle to get the 500 badges required to buy your GoB. Which overall took months to do. Nowadays it’s easy to max out a reward track in 4-7 days casually. All you have to do is run with the zerg and repair things in WvW for a handful of hours a day.

You forget that achievement chests were giving out badges for almost two years before they made GoB a reward track. It was a golden age (for PvEers) where they could get their gift for their Legendary without ever stepping foot outside the safe zones on each map.

But I get your point.

Actually, you had to first unlock the vendor by reaching WvW Rank 50, then this was lowered to 14. So you did have to step out of the spawn, just not for too long.

There was a time that you didn’t need ranks at all. Back when you had to do WvW maps for map completion. I’ve only done WvW to get the map completion done on two characters and I did not do it it by playing the mode as intended for most of it. I’m rank 5. I’ve got the gift of battle.

Yeah I did them on 3 toons before that was removed. Kinda wish they’d reinstate it though, even if it isn’t readded to World Exploration I’d like to be able to complete the maps (like Dry Top or Silverwastes) and just have them give out their own special rewards.

Due to changes though, you can completely skip the PvP bit, so not allowing people to skip the WvW bit for reasons such as “you need to do all game modes” comes off as biased imo.

They state 1310 for a set of T2, 1310 for a set of T3 = total of 2620.

Those costs are wrong. T3 costs double the cost of the prior piece. T3 chestpiece costs 700 Skirmish Tickets, f.ex.

The wiki appears to be hilariously wrong. I will correct this.

Outnumbered: what to do with it?

If swapping maps completely resets participation it would only kill the incentive to swap to another map to help out a keep that’s under siege.. This is legit border-hopping and should not be discouraged at all.

My suggestion would still be the same; to avoid the “last minute” hoppers, award 1 bonus pip for every minute you had the Outnumbered debuff on the map you’re currently on when the tick happens. Also; remove the requirement that it has to be present the very second the tick happens. I’ve spent hours playing on Outnumbered maps and gotten the extra pips maybe as rarely as every 3-4 ticks since someone borderhops at the last seconds.. You put in the work on a map where you’re Outnumbered a majority of the time, but get nothing for it.

No, you need 3930. You need to unlock the T2 armor as well. To not include that in costing is silly.

No, with active play you should get around 1k ranks. It may take a bit of practice to understand how to get the most out of your playtime to push this XP rate, but it’s a very practical estimate.

Then we agree on something.

You don’t need to be in a zerg at all to get this XP rate. I get this XP rate when I do donuts around the desert Borderlands, flipping camps and shrines.

Ofc not. But then it comes down to a bit of luck. Some nights I’m sure you do well, so do I. Other nights, it seems wherever I go, whenever I go, there’s a roaming group passing by that snipes me, or there’s another group going for that same camp.. Some nighs I seemingly spend 1-2 hours doing nothing but killing some random straggler or a Sentry.. Those nights do not do wonders for my WvW Rank.
That’s why I average things out to 2 ranks / hour, and to go above that I’d atleast need a pretty good karma train every once in a while.

It’s not. Getting the T2 armor and a small series of T2 weapons while you gather the tickets for T3 armor puts you at roughly 1800, at which point you can purchase multiple pieces of the T3 armor.

No. If I aim for nothing but T3 armor, 1 set, it will take me just under 500 hours to farm the 2620 Claim Tickets I need. You don’t get 2k rank in 500 hours unless you’re up against a server where you’re in a zerg that can flip paper towers and keeps on a regular basis.. Even if 2 ranks/hour is a decent average, any beginner would still be maybe rank 1k, so halfway there by the time he/she can afford it. That’s bs.. and that’s 15 weeks of farming nothing but WvW for the (probably even above) average gamer when it comes to time. Most people with work, kids, real life obligations etc, won’t have the 6.5 hours they’d have to spend in WvW every single day the first weeks, to get their Diamond Chest to begin with. If the rank req was 1k for all the pieces, fine. 2k is too high.

We’re asking for equal ground when it comes to this monstrous grind, and we’re being the entitled snowflakes? Really?
Main complaint is Rank Requirement for certain items. Anyone going for unlocking everything (Legendary Backpack, all 3 T3 Armor Sets, and All Exotic Mistforged Hero’s Weapons) would need to be in it for the long haul, almost 2 years of gaining Diamond Chest every single week. That would most likely get you to WvW Rank 2000 either way, and (most) people aren’t even complaining about that huge grind. I find that fair. The more items I want the more effort I put into it. Simple. The real perk for long time WvW is the extra pip gain tbh; with a rank 4k+ only having to spend 13 hours ish to max Diamond Chest, while a Rank 0 would have to spend 46 hours for the same Tickets.

The Raid Grind for Legendary Armor is the same for everyone, if you and I both start raiding tonight we will get the Legendary Armor for the same ammount of work. I don’t get anything special in there for having PvE:d the past 5 years..

If we both head in to Fractals tonight to farm the Ascended Armor there, or the Legendary Backpack, the grind is the same, we’d both need an equal ammount of runs and effort no matter what we did before we started..

If we want the PvP Backpack; ok you might have to “grind” PvP Rank 20 if you’ve never set foot in there; but that would take tops 239 games in Unranked and that’s if you lose every.. single.. one… which is highly unlikely. But say you are that terrible at playing, or just have the worst luck in gaming history; it’d take you around 60 hours if all games last the full 15 minutes (also not very likely). So about the same time as grinding the Diamond Chest for a new player on a losing server? Not unreasonable..

But WvW? No they need to be rewarded for “past work”. Not only do they get more pips and faster chest rewards, they also need their “special armor” locked behind an unreasonably high WvW Rank requirement.
Sure, you can see it as a reward for past work and claim you worked for it so you deserve it, but then why was my reward for past work taken away? I’m looking at you here GoB vendor! My past work should not be rewarded, but yours should?

To top it off there’s the regulars with the attitudes that “Do you want WvW stuff? Well grind WvW then.. It will take you a year, or two? Well suck it up!” but when the same individuals are “forced” to go into another game mode for a few days to farm something (HoT Runes for instance) it’s all “boo hoo you’re making me PvE for this/that and that’s just not fair!” and what did ANet do? Add those PvE Runes to WvW vendors..

If all game modes were equally separated, it would be fine.. But they’re not.
I do PvP; I get PvP and PvE Rewards.
I do WvW; I get WvW and PvE Rewards.

All rewards are “PvE” rewards. If we didnt get in wvw there just wouldnt be any rewards. There was never WvW armor or WvW weapons. Mystforged from tournaments? Thats y our idea of wvw rewards? Dude your post reads like this.
