How about simply giving players an option to “mute special sound effects on weapons” as a checkbox option in sounds? I love the look of The Dreamer, and while I wouldn’t say it breaks my immersion it does get annoying after a few minutes.. Same goes for Quip.

How to get heritage armor?

So what I was thinking was buying Eye of the north expansion (Can I just buy the expansion or do I have to buy GW1 and then the expansion?), creating an account and then linking it to my Gw2 account. This apparently should give me 3 HoM points. Since I just want 2 pieces from the heritage armor medium set, will the 3 HoM points for linking accounts be enough the get just the 2 armor pieces I want? I read somewhere you need 6 HoM to get the full set but I just want 2 pieces.

You’d have to buy atleast 1* Campaign* (Prophecies, Factions or Nightfall) and the Expansion.

That depends on what pieces you want.
3 HoM points will unlock Boots, Legs and Chest.

4pts: Gloves
5pts: Shoulders
6pts: Helmet

I am starting to feel a bit overwhelmed by the ammount of clicking I have to do after completing an event like the Dragon’s Stand Meta (assuming I have enough bag space to not do the clicking mid event to clear up space)..

Every time you complete an event or kill a champion, you receive “Champion Bags”. Not just one type either but usually five or six, and sometimes in 4 different rarities.

Some stack, others don’t.
Some look the same, have the same name, but are from different sources so they don’t stack, while others from different sources do stack, and all in all it’s just too confusing to me to keep track of.

Is there any way of cleaning this up? Like make all Exotic “Heirloom Seed Pouch” stack with eachother no matter if they dropped from a Plant, a Sylvari, or a Mordrem, concidering they all have the same loot table?

Also, please stop putting bags in bags in bags.. I open a Veteran Wyvern Cache only to receive a Thorned Cache, and I open that only to receive a Heavy Loot Bag. It’s getting a bit ridiculous, and wearing my mouse buttons out for no (apparent) reason.

And back to the stacking, even though it’s not a loot bag; The Level Boosters from Year 1 and 2 gifts, please make them stack.. Please! They look the same, they have the same name, they do the same thing.. Again the only difference is their source (First- or Second Year gifts).

There are multiple versions of bags cause they all have multiple versions of loot tables.
Champ bags for example have unique exotics from eachother.

As for birthday scrolls im pretty sure they are different. One scroll brings your character to lvl 20, the 2nd scroll brings it to lvl 30, the next one to lvl 40.

Also imagine there were no bags at all and you just get swarmed with greens, yellows and tons of various mats all at once? Youd be visiting your salvage /deposit all buttons fairly more frequently instead of “once after dragon stand event ends”

I am not talking about making a Box of Lab Equipment stack with a Beaded Pouch, since they have different loot tables. :P
I want them to make the same type of box, for instance Elaborate Ritualist Bag, to stack with other Elaborate Ritualist Bag of the same rarity (exotic, rare etc) instead of only with the same bag of the same rarity from the same source (Molten Alliance, Imp, Fleshreaver).
An Elaborate Ritualist Bag will have the same loot table no matter what source it drops from, it just won’t stack with the ones from other sources.. which to me is.. quite frankly, a weird design choice.

Birthday scrolls from 1st and 2nd year boost you to lvl 20, 3rd year to lvl 30 and 4th year to lvl 40. So again, I see no reason for 1st and 2nd year to not stack just because they are from different sources.

As things are now, I’d actually prefer getting the greens immediately. xD
Now I’m stuck with (slight exaggeration here sure, but) 20 different stacks of bags after a meta event. I open one stack, end up with another 4 stacks.. then I open those bags, and get greens + grays + other bags.. Inventory full. Salvage all. Deposit all materials. Open more bags, inventory full, salvage, deposit, open more, inventory full… see where this is going?
And all the junk items, they take up half my inventory at the end.. Please, increase the silver gain instead of throwing more junk items at me. Those are the true waste of space..

If we’re gonna assume we’re stuck with Outfits over Armor..
Outfits lets us “hide helmet”, but that’s about it when it comes to customising it..
I’d prefer it if I could hide gloves/shoulders and even display my actual armor instead of the Outfit Headpiece for instance. Sure it might clip horribly, but that’s my problem.

Outfits are supposedly so much easier to make, but some have way too few dye channels and/or the wrong parts are tied to the same dye channel. Metal and Cloth in this example, or the Sylvari Cook’s Outfit that has one dye channel that’s empty, and then one that combines wood and the main flower petals. That’s terrible. Atleast use some of that extra “free time” on fixing the basics? :/

Some outfits just dye hella weird compared to others using the same “material” (wood, leather, cloth, metal). It’s like the dye channel is too light/dark to begin with. I have hundreds of dyes in different shades unlocked, it would be nice if using “Shadow Abyss” didn’t result in a dark gray tint as I have “Pitch” or “Black” for that, or “Celestial” made it look light gray since that would be accomplished by “Icing”. I thought the point of having a gazillion different shades of dyes is so you can use the shade you like..

This “fixing” should also be applied to some old armors in the game. Some sets don’t even dye the same.. -.-

As I recall, you can make them stack by putting them all in one character’s inventory, and zoning. After that, they stack.

As I recall…

I’m pretty sure the Year 1 and Year 2 scrolls just don’t stack, unless something has changed since I last checked.

They don’t stack afaik, which is why I want the coders to “fix” them.. I know why they don’t stack, I just don’t see the point in having two seemingly identical items not stack.

I will however try the zoning trick; although my hopes are not high it would explain why I’ve had similar results with other items in the past (Blueprints for one).

Dailies!

Kinda related, but…

Today one of the things I can do is a Jumping Puzzle in Southsun Cove called ‘Under New Management’. I seem to recall there were two there, one was easy by where you ported in, and the other was that ‘timey-jumpy’ one.

How do I know which is which? I don’t recall jumping puzzles having names (3 weeks into not having played for 15 months before that)?

In Southsun Cove there’s “Under New Management” and “Skipping Stones”. They are named in the jumping puzzle achievements, so you can track which ones you’ve completed, and if you look at the Wiki for the related zone you can find the names there. They usually have pretty “obvious” names.. In this case the one where you skip across stones on time, is called “Skipping Stones” and “Under New Management” is the easier one.
Going with your example go to https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Southsun_Cove and scroll down to “Locations”, the jumping puzzles have a green puzzle icon infront of them.

You can also search for the name in your achievement panel, and the related achievement will provide you with a description of said jumping puzzle. This usually gives you a pretty good idea of which puzzle it is.
Hope this helps!

I am unsure why it’s a huge issue that you’re not getting a spirit shard, or are unable to unlock masteries you’re not going to enjoy anyway.. I mean, if you don’t want to do Fractals or collection achievements then you don’t need Legendary Crafting or Fractal Attunement, leaving you with only Pact Commander that costs 19 Mastery Points to fully unlock. It can’t be completely impossible to find 19 achievements you could concider doing, out of the 67 ones available that yield Central Tyria Mastery Points?
Most mastery points you get from achievements that you complete while just playing the game anyway. Not all require you to go out of your way much or to spend hundreds of gold on some collection.. Play through the story, kill bosses, jump through a few hoops during story missions, complete the personal story, done..

And if it’s about the Spirit Shards; I probably gain more from doing 3 dailies than I do from gaining XP anyway.

Skritt Hit wintersday daily?

Najten.2418

1 and 2, but Festival Area is by far the worst place to get this achievement done.

Only did it once, since I came across so many problems it didn’t feel worth completing.. I managed to get a whooping 2 hits in during an entire Dolyak escort, due to the normal issues; skritt getting kicked away, players getting in your line of fire, you getting into someone else’s line of fire, you getting hit by snowballs from those pesky NPCs that (during this particular daily quest) are seemingly only there to ruin your day.
So I got the advice to find skritt in the open world. Apparently any hostile ones would do. So I grabbed some Sealed Packages of Snowballs, and out I went. I came to the following realisations:
1) when you open your Sealed Package of Snowballs you just end up with a bunch of snowballs spread around the exact spot where you were standing at the time.. whoops.
2) skritt that are hostile and out in the open can easily get killed by other players while you’re attempting to pelt them with snowballs
3) skritt that are hostile can decide to attack you and then the snowballs can’t be used and you need to run away to force them to stop chasing you, at which point your pack of snowballs that you dropped on the ground (would be nice if this was a bundle with charges rather than items dropped on the ground, on a timer no less) have despawned
4) other players can steal your snowballs!! (again, would be nice if it was a bundle)
5) most hostile skritt don’t like standing still so you need to run back and forth between skritt and wherever you stupidly dropped your snowballs, wasting precious seconds (please make it a bundle!)
6) you need to go back to a trading post to acquire more Sealed Packages of Snowballs since you didn’t bring enough of them to waste as many as you did on silly things

I managed to finish it, but have since avoided it like the plague.. Fortunately there are other options so to get the 3 you need this one isn’t needed. Phew!
I do hear that it can be easily completed in the Infinirarium but I haven’t tried it.. I just skip it. Hopefully it will be better next year around.

Another thing; your face when you realise the reason you can’t seem to hit them with your precious snowballs is because you have “Snap Ground Target to Current Target” activated after a PvP session on a specific character.. and slap yourself for wasting even more snowballs (along with questioning why settings like these can’t be character specific). x.x

Year of the Ascension Achievements

So….

Hey everyone,

I wanted to just chime in here and make some things clear as they may not be clear.

The “Year of The Ascension” achievement do not reset/clear between seasons. Whatever progress you have carries over to the next season.

If you can’t/don’t get the legendary if a specific year then there will be another way to obtain that specific backpack. I can’t go into any details on that, but you WILL be able to get previous years backpacks in some way.

We also understand the frustration of players and matchmaking this season and will do our best to make some changes for Season 3.

I can’t be the only one reading this as "the “Year of the Ascension” achievement way of obtaining this will be removed but you will be able to get it ANOTHER way".

We’re going back on this now?
After people worked their behinds off to get far enough in the achievements to be able to finish it this tournament? Why?

So who is Season 5 Leagues truly for? From my eyes it’s just another grind for ascended gear without actually having to do PvE, for the PvEers who can’t be asked to gain their ascended gear via the gold and time gates in PvE.

Maybe it’s for the WvW:ers that want that Ascened gear (PvP:ers don’t give a crap, stats don’t matter anyway) but don’t want to touch the “plague that is PvE”?
Most semi serious PvE:ers already got way past the time gates for Ascended Gear ages ago.. And people that started the game a couple of months ago aren’t all that likely to be aiming for Ascended gear already, more likely working on decking toons out in Exotics.
Atleast those of my friends that started playing in the last year and are going for Ascended, aren’t even thinking of doing PvP for it.. not with having to grind Rank 20 to even enter the Ranked to begin with. xD

Wouldn’t an easy fix be to lock ranked until the person reaches level 60 or something in pvp?

I believe they already require you to reach rank 20 to participate. It would make more sense to prevent rank gains from Custom Arena though, and only reward it from Unranked so people actually learn the real “layout” of what Ranked will be like.

Normally I just silently read posts and move on, only commenting from time to time.
However, I want to comment on a growing trend that I am seeing.

First off, I would like to ask you, how do you know for certain that someone is a pve player. When it is the intended goal of Anet to get people to balance and play across all game modes, there are very few players that never set foot in WvW or PvE and only play PvP these days. Now, alot of us like me, love PvP and play it the most, as in I play it most every night of the week and only branch out from time to time.

However, you have to stop blaming the quality of your matches on pve players. It might be a bad day for some, it might be something you are doing, it might of been a bad roll of the dice. Any one of these three are the actual reasons, your match was lost.

Secondly, new players are the lifeblood of every game mode. You were new once and I am sure you didnt appreciate being referred to in a derogatory manner due to your newness. Most new players know they are not that great yet, and are in fact trying to learn.

If you want to make a change in how things are matched, how things are managed in PvP my suggestion is you turn this anger and hate to constructive criticism that will actually help minimize blow out matches and improve the quality of matches for new and Vet players. You could also offer to help someone who is a suspected PvEer or New player….

first, how to find out if someone new? You just block him and check AP. I had many games with players under 1k AP, playing more difficult classes. What they do? They run to enemy blob and die instantly. Do you think it’s fair towards long time pvpers? To lose a game because some newbie just giving points away? There is unranked, then random arenas, go learn, then play ranked, however (now including me) everybody simply farming ascended armor. Anet had good idea, sadly they * it up as aleways just by being to lazy to think deeper. PVP is now PVE, you just farm ascended armor.

I wish people would stop trying to use AP alone as some sort of “proof” of how new the player/account is..
You realise that you could spend 4 years playing nothing but PvP, and be at a maximum of 1,736 AP (atleast that’s the total currently available from PvP achievements)? And that’s with playing ALL classes, if you stick to 1 or 2 you’d have way less. And WvW for 4 years would net you 809… Means you can’t play or can’t possibly know your class?
You can of course argue that you add the “badness” of the player to the equation, and sure, this points towards a newer player/non-PvP player, but it’s absolutely not definitive proof.. I know plenty of people that have played for a long time, and are still not good at what they do, just as I know plenty of people that pick up on everything super fast and are really good in a short period of time.
All you can tell for sure is that someone with a large ammount of AP has played for a long time and/or been a real grinder, in probably all game modes. Low AP proves nothing.

Also, why are you checking people’s AP instead of actually playing and focusing on the match you’re trying to win? :P

PvP (and WvW) Reward Tracks - queue system?

in PvP

Posted by: Najten.2418

Najten.2418

As things are now, once I finish a Reward Track it auto swaps to a (probably a pattern here, but seemingly) random Track (in my case always the bloody Citadel of Flame Dungeon Track). I call it random because it’s a different Reward Track for everyone I’ve asked..
Because of this any points received when completing whatever Reward Track I’m working on are “wasted” on an unwanted Reward Track; so far 15000 points. Sure, it’s not the entire world, but it is annoying in the long run.
Would it be possible to change things so I can “queue” a Reward Track that I want the game to auto-swap to next time I complete a Reward Track? Preferably even the same track if I’m going for the same track multiple times..

Please fix the bell choir

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Najten.2418

Najten.2418

First of all; Why can’t you make the Bell Choir maps not accept new players after the last song has started? You can’t participate on that map after that point anyway so placing anyone there is just a waste. The Bell Choir is also perfectly soloable so there’s no need to “overfill” the maps to begin with..

Second; It’s frustrating enough just to enter the Bell Choir at the start of the “waste of time session”, without the (now pretty huge, I got it more than half the time I played today) risk of getting “The world you are attempting to join is full” message at the end of it..
It would also be nice the actual map I’m on is more likely to restart than to transfer me to a new (possibly full, this also needs fixing.. if it’s full then make a new map rather than leaving me in the closing instance?).

Third; Why is there even a “waste of time” session to begin with? I mean, it’s not really necessary to have a full minute of time wasted just to show the scoreboard at the end and then transfer players to a new map now is there? If you want to add “free play” for people to freely bash whatever key they like, then add a separate practice map you can join voluntarily or something.

Hopefully this will be less frustrating next Wintersday event. :/

Stop making Outfits, Start making Armor!

While I can understand that making full armor sets takes a lot more effort, I’d still prefer that over Outfits. I’d rather wait longer and spend more gems if I got a full armor set rather than another Outfit.
I didn’t mind Outfits so much between the time they changed the transmutation system to what it is now, and the time I stopped actually leveling new characters in the world rather than with the 187931231 tomes I have from various sources, as it saved on transmutation charges while constantly swapping out armor pieces.. But now, I’d much rather have armor sets that I can combine as I please..
I like outfits as much as the average person I guess, but there’s not much point in me having those shiny Peg-Leg Boots, the awesome Bloodstone Visage, or the cool Toxic Mantle since it doesn’t show under an Outfit.
I don’t even have huge issues with different armor sets responding differently to dyes; it’s more annoying when different pieces in the SAME armor set respond differently or seem to use reversed dye channels on some pieces. <.<

I thought they changed the timers to 2 hours. At least, I thought that that was what the patch notes said.

Still, I’ve never been thrown out of a map where I didn’t say yes to the move. Nor have a map close without warning. I guess I’m super lucky. It must be frustrating for those that have.

I have. Usually exactly 60 minutes after getting the initial popup. Even if I choose to stay and the button to “swap later” has disappeared, the map closes. Has done so every time I’ve tried it so far.

And from my experience no matter how many people join the map after it’s been set to close.

It’s because it’s not about that map, the map that has to filled is the one it wants you to join.

Considering the problem is player made and the only way you’re really going to encounter it is if you don’t use the automated system as intended, it’s rather unlikely that they’d bother changing it.

My issue is that I don’t really have any control in if this will happen or not, unless I completely stop using the LFG tool which is a rather important part of finding groups to do the meta events with. The only thing I can do personally is to never start a meta event group on a map where I’ve received the “map is closing” message. I’m on about being taxied into a closing map without knowing that it is about to close, and wasting time doing stuff on there that I have no chance of finishing due to the timer remaining on the map being too short to begin with.

Tarir? :P sometimes happen but it is only an issue because of an event. When an event start people use lfg changing map at superspeed. Some ip turn out with low population for a brief time but right after few minutes and sometimes seconda the pop up message disappear.
P.s. never press yes

Why “never press yes”? The map can close anyway. Yes just allows you to receive the buff for transferring voluntarily AFAIK.

Correct. Once you get the message the map WILL close, no matter if you accept the transfer or not. And from my experience no matter how many people join the map after it’s been set to close. It does not matter if you’re there or not, it will close after the time given.

I just request that entering the map after the “closing timer” has started, will also give you a message so you know it’s a closing map. :/

The way I understand the whole closing map mechanic to work is that 1 hour prior to closing anyone currently on that map will get a message that the map will close in 60 minutes with an option to swap to another map..
The problem I keep encountering is that if people taxi others to this closing map, the people joining will receive no warning or timer on how long the map will remain open.
This leads to situations where people use the LFG tool to put a group together after receiving the message, taxi people to a closing map, do an entire event chain, get to the final part, only to have the map close “surprisingly” once things get interesting (mid Vinewrath fight last time it happened to me).

Would it be possible to have the warning about the map closing pop up even if you join the map after the initial message (as in, during any time from the 60 minute marker to when the map will actually close)? Would be nice.. Thanks! :P

When will this glitch be permanently fixed? It’s all nice that you remove the titles awarded to people/accounts that did not in fact earn them, but it is annoying to have them removed on an account that DID earn them.. Especially for the 5th or 6th time.

It is extremely annoying to have to reinstall GW to be able to log in and enter the HoM to reclaim my titles and missing achievements… Yes sometimes they come back on their own, but most of the time they do not and at that point the only way to “fix” the fix is to visit HoM in the original game. It gets very tedious.. :/

[Suggestion]Gift of Battle reward track

in WvW

Posted by: Najten.2418

Najten.2418

I’m sorry you had bad experiences. The vast majority of people I’ve met in WvW are friendly, helpful. There are as many trolls in /map as there are in PvE and they like to complain/blame as much as the ones in PvE.

I say this as someone who started, like you, as a PvE-focused person just aiming for map completion (never mind legendary gifts). I also go long periods without playing WvW, so it’s common that I won’t know anyone on the maps (and more importantly, they don’t know me).

As with PvE, the game mode tends to deliver based on what you put into it. If you want to get more out of it, ask for help or ask questions. Look for someone who seems to know what they are doing. (Or if you want it to be a miserable experience that you just want to get past, then focus just on doing dailies and capping monuments for the extra bit of WXP — that is the least-effort method, although it takes a bit longer.)

I’ve honestly never come across such a toxic environement in GW2 PvE as I have in WvW. Sure, there are some sourpusses in PvE too, but very few trolls (and they usually get shut down very fast) and apart from people moaning about one group killing the Vine in Auric Basin too fast on some side not much grief in chat either. Guess nothing gets the blood pumping as much as competing vs some other server, but WvW is just not welcoming at all in my experience. It’s not just toxic players (yes, a lot might be nice/impartial but the few that do make their voices heard in a negative way have a very big impact and have turned several people I know off WvW permanently) but it’s also quite overwhelming and unforgiving to new players.
It’s also been my experience when it comes to the WvW tracks that apart from getting your tick going, there’s no benefit to participate actively over repairing a wall or recapping a ruin every 10 minutes.. And if I’m going to “get yelled at” no matter what I do or don’t do I lose interest in putting in effort. It takes just as long either way. I would’ve preferred if actively doing something would atleast give you some extra progress on those reward tracks.. Not to mention how nice it would feel if you weren’t “punished” for trying to scout or defend an objective (like a tower) without managing to actually kill an enemy player, just tag them and fend them off..
Unfortunately not everyone can get assigned as a scout by the 0-1 commander in EB..

And don’t even get me started on the random participation in capture events cuz apparently breaking down a door, tagging the Tower Lord and DPS:ing it from 100% to 10% health before getting knocked off the bloody tower by his massive knockback doesn’t count as capping a tower just because you’re not standing in the cap circle.. :@ (Yeah, I have loads of steam to blow off from participating way more in WvW lately than I think is good for my sanity.)

Sure, there are nice people in WvW, but they seem few and far between. There are good commanders, but atleast on my server they are also few and far between. Hey, I’d even take a kitten one that is atleast online somewhere other than in EB.
I like the idea that they will finally add something that has anything to do with Legendary Crafting to the only 100% Legendary oriented track, I really do not want it to have anything to do with WvW stuff..

As everyone knows this game has no cast bars and therefore it is of utmost importance to be able to react to animations performed by enemy players to time interrupts, dodges etc..
Lately I’ve had major issues with – not exclusively, but mainly – “finisher” animations. This goes for both WvW and PvP.
For instance, if the person using a finisher is stealthed at the start of it, the animation will start from scratch by the time they unstealth, even if they’re already 3/4 through the stomp. If the enemies are affected by quickness, I will get stomped half way through the animation..
When I’m trying to finish an enemy, if the finisher is cancelled for some reason (daze etc) the animation will still continue (atleast on my screen) but never actually finish the enemy off.

Anyone else experiencing the same issues?
Anyone know of a fix for it, cuz it’s hard to time something like a fear or a stealth when you can’t properly judge how far they are in the actual finishing move.
What I’ve already tried is the basic stuff like lowering graphics, even down to using the “Best Performance” setting.. This makes absolutely no difference.

Perhaps someone here that sees/knows something I do not can enlighten me; but why is it I can open some loot chests/bags but not others, and use for instance an Experience Booster but not a Celebration Booster while in sPvP (after joining an Unranked Arena match)?
I’m seriously struggling to find the red thread here..

Big thumbs up for the new content and story line. It’s very promising! ^^

A query about this change though; “Added back the ability to receive Spirit Shards once all the Masteries in a given region (Central Tyria or the Heart of Maguuma) have been earned. Players will continue to earn experience, and with every 254,000 experience points gained, players will earn a handful of Spirit Shards, which are useful to spend in the Mystic Forge or with the Mystic Forge attendant Miyani.”

Would it be possible to change it so that it only takes into account all unlocked Masteries?
I am not in a raiding guild, and because of that have not killed a raid boss, and thus have not been able to unlock (and let alone max out) the Forsaken Thicket mastery line.. This means that any experience I earn in HoT is still completely wasted since I haven’t maxed out all HoT Masteries.

We’ve chased down 2 separate Bounty NPCs (Brekkabekk and Poobadoo) and both have been behaving very strangely.
At first Brekkabekk was nowhere to be found, but Maully could be seen walking the normal path. Then Brekkabekk would appear briefly about 300 yards behind the bear, only to disappear again before we managed to engage him.
And we were 3 separate guilds looking for Poobadoo circling the map more than once before one group managed to spot him. Upon getting there he was not visible at all to me, then just appeared out of thin air when they engaged him.

I’d have to agree with Heibi on this one; Playing the game is fine. But even being in their own guild rather than “incognito” is already bad enough. If they’re not going to spread equally across all servers they shouldn’t be flying their company colours.

I don’t understand why people aren’t understanding this. A lot of people who were/still are upset over this change don’t mind having to play WvW to earn it now. They are more upset by the complete lack of adequate notice on ANet’s part. That is not ok, and the company would be ill advised to implement such a major change to the game in a similar way in the future. Its a great way to drive off loyal players.

Unfortunately this isn’t even the first time they’ve implemented a major change without (proper) prior notice, and it probably won’t be the last.. This is however the first time I can personally recall that they have been so utterly lackluster in responding or trying to rectify the issue caused to players.
And if they wanted people to WvW for GoB, why not start by NOT rewarding Badges of Honor from doing other stuff (Achievement Points in general)? Now THAT would have made bloody sense..

Tracks were in Beta for 2 months, the GOB vendor was there the whole time, how long did you need? I don’t mean to sound insensitive, really, but, if 2 months isn’t enough time to gather 500 badges, and the reward track takes 4-8 hours (as estimated by several other players), it seems like the reward track is shorter…

They could have been in beta for 6 months, it wasn’t about “farming enough badges” (atleast not for anyone I know, I myself already had over 8000 of the things) it was about not being given proper notice that the change was coming. Yes it was in the patch notes, but (as another individual quoted from The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy) “It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet, stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying “Beware of the Leopard”.”

Also about the time spent being 4-8? I don’t know where some people get this timeframe from.. They obviously haven’t done the basic maths.
195 is the max tick; 214 if you have the Guild Hall 10% bonus to WvW Reward Track active (214.5 should be rounded up to 215 ANet, just saying…).
The track from start to finish requires you to earn 20000 points; meaning it has to tick atleast 20000/214=93,457… times which we round up to an even 94 since there’s no such thing as a half tick.
The tick is on a 5 minute interval, meaning it takes 94*5=470 minutes to finish a Reward Track. 470 minutes is 7 hours 50 minutes (the same maths without the GH buff gives us 8 hours 35 minutes).
Ofc, this is based on you having max tick the entire time, which isn’t true. It usually takes me 30-60 minutes to get up to max tick depending on what I’m doing and how lucky or unlucky I am with caps/available stuff to do. It also means you need to constantly maintain the tick at max, thus spending these 8-9 ish hours straight in WvW, or you’ll have multiple ramp up times which will extend the time it takes even more.
So anyone claiming it took them less than 8 hours either popped a whole bunch of Potions of WvW Rewards, or are lying/massively underestimating their time spent.

You may discuss, argue, fall down and scream about this all you like, But this will not be changed.
So deal with it.
This change did not need a specific date, and did not need more communication. It was in patch notes, I wouldn’t expect a huge fanfare or several articles about a change which isn’t exactly a big deal anyway.
All the playerbase needed to know was that this was going to happen. So it was in the patch notes in the relevant section. You would have had people complain no matter how long or short the Reward Track beta was.

This kind of attitude from people just makes me really hope the next WvW change is only announed under “Fractal Beta Testing” or something, in the next wall of text patch note.. Would be interesting to see how many people in these threads suddenly change their tunes about things being announced properly. :P

Not to mention, the regular wvw only player, when creating any of the new legendaries, will have to spend DAYS or WEEKS in PVE not only to get a gift of exploration, but now to also get a gift of Maguuma mastery and a gift of insights.

Just a heads up for you then; stop wasting your precious “out of WvW time” on World Exploration, since it is not required for the new HoT Legendaries. There, saved 90 hours! Woop!

I don’t remember even remotely implying that I care about what other people do when they’re on the map or why they’re there in the first place, or even calling anyone a “scrub”.

Good for you. Unfortunately, I can’t remember many times I’ve entered WvW without reading atleast 1 line about what “some PvE scrub” is currently doing wrong: be it taking the wrong supplies, using them on the wrong thing, being too squishy, using the wrong weapons, not bringing the right skills etc.. I’m sure this varies on different servers, but on mine there’s usually not a friendly or welcoming atmosphere. And any WvW lover that seriously thinks I am going to statchange my Ascended gear or even bother getting a 2nd set to grind a boring as eff track in a game mode I don’t really want to play any more: HAH. Right.. Not going to happen! So eff off and stop telling me how to gear or play my toon. Too bad I’m not being very useful while taking up a precious slot for 9 hours but it’s not something I asked for so quit putting me down for it.

1) I don’t give a toss how many unofficial pages mentioned it. I shouldn’t have to find GW2 info on other sites.. So stop bringing up Reddit, MassivelyOP, Dulfy, Site Yada yada etc etc etc… They don’t count. End of.

2) I read patch notes, I just skip over the parts that I find unlikely to affect me and/or my gaming experience (as I assume a LOT of people do, especially when the patch notes are the length of a short story). Since I no longer play WvW actively I could not give two flying squirrels about notes pertaining to WvW—REWARD TRACKS (Beta). I for one do not feel the changes of Gift of Battle acquisition should be placed under that headline, but under something more in the lines of LEGENDARY CRAFTING CHANGES which I’m sure more people would’ve actually read..

3) While this change might mean “less work” for anyone with a brand new account (9 hours of grind is less time spent than gaining 14 World Ranks after all) it is a kick in the face for anyone that already earned the right to buy their Gift(s) of Battle.. Yes, technically, if you spent 20 Laurels + 500 Badges of Honor to buy Taste of Liquid World Experience between the dates of March 16 2015 (when WvW Mapping was removed from Gift of Exploration) and October 23 2015 (when HoT was released removing the ability to purchase Taste of Liquid World Experience) you could get the WXP needed to acquire the items necessary to make a Legendary Weapon without actually setting foot in WvW, but at any other time, and assuming you weren’t so totally anti WvW you really did go about it this way, you actually had to work for it.

4) I can’t see how effectively “forcing” people into WvW (especially if they’re already “finished” the part they “had to” before) rather than enticing them is going to have a positive effect on the game.

5) Yes, crafting a Legendary is a time sink unlike most things in this game. It does take a lot of effort, and no, the 9 hours we now need to spend in WvW isn’t even a majority of the time it takes; but the other parts we started on KNOWING what we got ourselves into. This change, just moved the finish line just as we were about to cross it. That’s like all of a sudden adding the HoT maps to the “World Completion” right before you finish your last PoI. Sure, “your fault for not finishing it last week” but still, I doubt you’d find it fair. I know I wouldn’t.

But yes, I too think the message should be sent to everyone, not just those in WvW at a certain unknown time.

Terrible idea. WvWers don’t want the PvE kittens voting on WvW features when they have little to no idea what the actual impact will be.

Cuz people not playing WvW actively this very week/month will most certainly have no clue about WvW and thus don’t deserve to know there’s a poll going on; and every PvE:er is totally going to go in and vote on something that has 0 effect on their own gameplay just to be mean. I strongly doubt that.

I cannot believe this topic has 8 pages. Next we’ll have a petition to have crafting stations in sPvP maps because what? You can’t be kitten d to TP to LA?

I’m not anti removing them, the Royal Terrace ones in Divinity’s Reach suit my needs just fine. My only issue is with the “reason” behind removing them. I have not ever heard anyone complain about the number of crafters in WvW causing queues, in the almost 4 years the crafting stations have been there.. There’s been plenty of grief about afk:ers in spawn etc, but never any mention of “people taking up slots just to craft”. And from what I’ve read in this thread, people on other servers and in different tiers, don’t seem to have either. The reasoning strikes me as odd, that’s all.

Players coming in to WvW affect the total WvW population cap, throwing the WvW population off balance. That data is what is used to determine:

  • What servers are paired together. The servers who have more players doing this will get paired up with less populated servers meaning they will have less WvW players in the game than other servers.
  • How much it costs to transfer to that server. Severs with more crafters will also have higher transfer costs making it more expensive and difficult to get players to transfer to their server. The higher the transfer fees the less players can afford to move there.
  • Whether or not that server gets locked as full and unable to transfer players on it at all. Some guilds are stopped from transferring their entire guild over mid transfer, so they get most of their guild on then it gets locked as full causing guilds to become split. ( As is the case with our guild at present). EVERY player actually does count when it comes to the WvW count, even if it is only 50 players on a server that are doing it, that is 50 actual WvW players a guild cannot get on to the server. 3-5 at a time can add up to a lot over time, then when you add the players coming in just to farm nodes and do dailies and it starts to really impact whether or not a server can compete.

I seriously hope you are completely wrong and ANet are not stupid enough to determine “Active WvW Population” solely based on how many people go into WvW during the day without taking into account how many people actually earn WXP (complete a WvW objective) during their visit..
IF that’s the reason to remove Crafting Stations I suggest recoding the way they check their active populations rather than removing a QoL thing. :P

I have a feeling people afk-farming their Gifts of Battle are a bigger reason for queues than the Crafting Stations ever were. <.<

But Suprisingly not many pvers realized that, most that used that trick were wvwers who would pop in from let’s say VB read map chat and see orange and then get sucked in to an hour long fight.

If anything, the crafting stations helped more than hurt. Taking them away has denied defense the possibility of getting a few extra bodies and their supply. The true trolls, que takers, spies etc. are probably hanging out in some obscure location like the JP.

Oh c’mon.

You’re not being honest here.

Those that came into craft would very rarely dip a toe into WvW. It wasn’t their scene.

As many many many who protested this change have said: They used it as a “cheat” to get back to the exact same spot in PVE they were prior, and be able to access bank, etc …

Did you personally monitor the crafting stations 24/7 to see? Neither did I! So, I cant say 100%, if you can, it seems you’re taking a que space by monitoring what everyone else is doing. I don’t need to pop into wvw to use the bank because I got a very lucky Black Lion drop, but my fiance (who also wvws) popped in several times over the years for bank access and always got sucked in the “need help at”.

I’m not saying some pvers weren’t using this “cheat” as you phrased it, I said wvwers used it more. Also, there are still ques, so how many spaces did this change free up, and how much have we lost since because the 1 or 2 extra bodies and supply weren’t there for a possibility of help?

As an avid PvE:er and no longer very interested WvW:er I can say I have used this “cheat” to do my “daily crafts” from time to time; but I can also say I would never bother waiting in a bloody queue to save 2 silver.. if there was no queue I’d pop in, do my crafts, pop out and continue wherever I left off.. if there was a queue I’d go to a city. I strongly doubt the crafting stations caused a significant increase in queue times.. :P

There were quite a few better ways to implement this change..

1) You could, and should, have given Proper Notice. Not one sentence buried in a ‘short story’ of a giant patch note, under a headline that won’t catch the eye of the majority of people it will effect, with no final date, and no information to those not invested in WvW (part of the poll) of when the ‘beta’ would even end.

2) Admit you effed up and return the vendor atleast for a limited time, allowing those that earned their rewards to collect them.

3) You could have introduced a new WvW currency that is not as “devalued” as the Badges of Honor are, and make that currency available ONLY in WvW (not in AP chests, not in Edge of the Mists etc). Keep the original Vendor permanently so that those that already earned the Badges and WvW ranks necessary to “unlock” the Gift of Battle can acquire their Gifts of Battle, since they’re the people feeling cheated by this change.

4) Actually make the Gift of Battle Item Reward Track worth doing.. Currently the only even remotely interesting reward, apart from the actual end reward, is a 90s Molten Lodestone and a couple of Transmutation Charges (but then I could get those a LOT faster by making a new toon and exploring its home city in 10 minutes..).
Atleast throw something even remotely tied to Legendary Crafting into this otherwise pointless crap track, so it feels worth it not doing the other tracks for a few hours..?

A Legendary item is not a WvW trophy, it is the highest level of rarity for the entire game. No other rarity is tied behind having to play in any particular venue. THAT is what is ridiculous.

Just from the top of my head.

Be reasonable for a minute. For an announcement about legendaries to be worth putting on a loading screen or in-game mail, it’d have to be something that affected a large portion of the player population. It doesn’t. Can you imagine how many more people would complain about Anet cluttering their screen or sending them junk mail?

The information was out there in a wide variety of forms. It’s not Anet’s fault that you don’t pay attention.

For the last part of your post, just lol. After they removed the requirement for wvw map completion, all the wvw you had to do for that item was step into the map. You didn’t even have to leave spawn. You had alternative ways to get both the badges and the ranks. There was no meaning to the gift. At least now it actually requires doing wvw. Still not enough, imo. Only requires 8-10 hours of wvw vs far more than that of pve for the legendary. But it’s a step in the right direction.

First of all, I do think I am being quite reasonable. What isn’t reasonable is to put a sidenote under the “wrong” headline in a wall of text and expect everyone, or even a majority of those it will affect, to read it. I bet most players don’t even skim through the patch notes to begin with, and most that do probably focus on the parts that are likely to affect them personally. Sure, the change technically applies to “WvW Reward Tracks (beta)”, but I’d say it affects LEGENDARY CRAFTING a helluva lot more. That headline would’ve caught my attention when skimming through the notes, WvW beta stuff does not since at most I pop in to WvW do a daily or two with a couple of guildies.. I never even concidered doing the Reward Tracks because with their ramp-up time they don’t seem made for or aimed at people that only pop in for 10-20 minutes, they are aimed towards players that spend hours in a row in WvW.

Second, no, the only official information was out there in one form. One sentence starting with “also…” in a 19000 word long text.. Don’t tell me that not only should I spend hours reading patch notes in detail even when it’s about game modes I don’t care much about, I should also make it my job to look for information from secondary sources? Now who’s being unreasonable?

Third; WvW map completion was never ever part of the Gift of Battle.. It was for the Gift of Exploration.. and I did full WvW map completion on 3 different characters before it was removed as a requirement.
I also farmed more than 500 Badges of Honor before they were added as loot in Achievement Chests. I am also past rank 400 (might not be super impressive but I for one am rather proud of that achievememt) in WvW. Heck, I was even part of a WvW guild for a while back when I did find WvW more interesting.
I already spent way more than the 8-12 hours the stupid “Waste of time” Track will take to complete (and I even completed the kitten track just to finish my latest Legendary).

As for your last point; if there’s “no meaning to the Gift of Battle” if you don’t have to WvW for it, should I take thas as you not thinking that the Dungeon Tracks should remain available in PvP and WvW? I mean, the Gift of Ascalon should require you to actually set foot in the dungeon, not just grind WvW for a few hours… That the latest change to the Heroics Notary should be revoked and he should stop selling HoT runes, sigils, weapon- and armorstats that used to require you to grind a bunch of events in HoT zones.. It would “have no meaning” if you can just buy them without experiencing that content, just for checking an extra pip in a WvW Ability Point tree.. No?

Neither is the majority of new players that try out WvW for the first time now three years in. It was in the notes, it was in the forums, it was on reddit, it often came up in LA map chat. I even saw it frequently in my pve guild chat, so I wouldn’t be the slightest bit surprised if other pve guilds did the same. Did you want it on a neon sign on every loading screen, too? Why would that kind of change even need to be announced in advance, anyway? The entire point of the item was to require wvw, and the old way didn’t require it at all. At least this one does, so NOT announcing it in advance would have made the most sense.

Know what most of these things have in common? They’re not things I do while I’m enjoying the game.

I play GW2 to actually, surprise surprise, play the game.

I don’t sit around for hours reading Patch Notes a mile long incase a dev sneakily hid an important notification near the end under some headline concerning a game mode I don’t give a flying squirrel about.
I don’t spend my limited gaming time reading threads on Reddit.
I don’t stand around in Lion’s Arch for hours on end reading the map chat.
Nobody in my guild knew about/discussed this change before it was implemented so didn’t get the info that way either..
So yes, a flashing neon sign, an in-game mail, a tiny news bulletin on the login screen, or this info simply being under the part of the Patch Notes I actually bother reading – those that will seemingly effect my gaming experience, would have been nice.

The point of announcing this change in advance would be to give the players that earned the right to buy Gifts of Battle the time to do so before removing the vendor. Because, unlike what the majority of people here seem to think, it did require you to WvW before too.. Now people just had all their previous work thrown in their faces and have to do the bloody grind all over again.

You don’t need to have max all lines to be effective. Many of the lines are laid out in a way where you can get “max dmg” with like 35ish points. And even so, just focus the 5 or so must haves and fill the rest in later.

-supply capacity
-ram
-cata
-whatever else

You don’t need 1k points, you don’t need a reset.

How good that you know what I need and don’t need.. And I suppose you’re right, I don’t need one, I can just give up on this whole WvW crap since most people in here seem arrogant as f anyway, and I apparently spent all my points in the wrong places anyway.. I don’t need any do-overs and neither does anyone else that’s just stupid enough to not be a jaded expert to begin with. Wonder why people hate WvW? You’re a shining example of the attitude that keeps a lot of my friends away..

And when it comes to the value od Badges of Honor; Like I said.. near zero, and to me.
I know I can use them for Badges of Tribute, which (assuming they all sell at the estimated price) would net me just over 100g.. it’s just not a lot of money to me. It’s also not what I was collecting and saving them for. Thus, to me they’re now quite useless. So giving me a chance to refund the points spent in gaining more of them would be nice.

And honestly, I can’t say I would feel more sorry for someone that has to click multiple times to max out all their Abilities again, than someone that has to gain 35 or more ranks to fix a mistake. I’d prefer a button or vendor to reset them “by choice” to save people the trouble but I’d still take an all out reset if that’s the only offer..
