Contrary to what a lot of uneducated people think, no one goes to battle in underwear.
An ironic claim from someone with the name “celtic lady”.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nudity_in_combatI thought she was spot on, since they did not even put on underwear.
(btw, the idea of “warpaint” is somewhat intriguing … skin-gem-store-material?)Joking aside (and thanks for the little edutainment), I think topless (as they appear now) would be ok – and I would definitely love that for my charr. I often don’t wear a helmet so I can see at least a little bit of fur (heavy).
In the case of no pants … the default underwear shall be replaced with some leopard loin-cloth. I rest my case.
You know…with an idea like that, it might give a little incentive for them to add customization for undergarments (though “no undergarments” would definitely NOT be an option—it would mostly be choosing patterns). Plus, maybe add the ability to dye the undergarments?
Alternatively, perhaps an armor skin that looks like non-default undergarments?

Actually specifically had male characters in mind, but it could work for females, too. :P I don’t doubt that, as long as female characters are wearing bras, it wouldn’t be a problem for females to walk around with hidden chest armor, as well.
I was mostly just posting a compromise solution that avoids some of the possible “lawl every1 iz nekkid! xD”, “lolz look @ all teh sexxy bikini ladys O_O” and “Oh my goodness! The ESRB rating did not warn me about all these scantly-clad players! Surely this game is some kind of cesspool for the shameless and depraved!” results that might be holding such a feature up.
I figured. :P
I approve of this idea. It’s already possible to unequip all your armor and run around naked if you really want to do that anyway, you just have to pay the cost of being weaker than normal. And when your armor breaks it’s removed from the character model, so it can also already happen as part of normal gameplay.
I guess the deciding factor would be how many players really want to run around naked all the time. I suspect that some gamers (straight male teens mostly) would be giddy at the prospect of having their human female mesmer run around barely clothed with no penalty to their stats, but if the GW2 demographic overall is older than that, then it probably wouldn’t be too big of an issue.
I imagine straight female, gay male, and bi gamers would enjoy the view while playing male characters in a similar fashion, too. But that’s neither here nor there. I spent an hour working on my character’s appearance, I’d like to see my full work without sacrificing armor!
If you’re doing combat in pants or bare chest mostly for RP, that sounds like a one-time situation to me! Seems a big request for " ‘Charge!’ /em gets stabbed in the bare back by a Centaur. The End." to me!
Sounds like something that would happen even with light armor. :-P And I wouldn’t think it such a big request to be able to hide chest, leg, and foot armor just as you can with headgear, gloves, and back armor.
Even game mechanics-wise, I still die in 1-2 hits even when wearing heavy armor anyway, so it doesn’t make sense there either.
I get the whole “everyone will run around naked” worry, but I still really want to be able to hide chest armor, even if just for male characters, and hide boots, even if just for Charr characters. I don’t really see why I would want to hide pants though.

And I pretty much involuntarily end up running into battle naked, anyway…because I’m desperately trying to finish a battle, yet all my armor has broken.

With the new wardrobe system that’s coming, we can pretty much make our characters look however we want them to look without sacrificing stats…almost. Suppose someone—an RPer, maybe—makes a Warrior who is effectively a berserker, and likes to charge into battle with no chest armor? Or perhaps another RPer’s character goes on a bender, and finds himself in battle with no pants?
My suggestion is to be able to hide ANY armor piece, not just headpieces and gloves. I know this will probably cause a lot of people to run around fighting in nothing but underwear, but considering that, even without such a feature, people in the original Guild Wars taking off all their armor and dancing in town was not an uncommon sight…
There is no need to delete characters, since you can buy character slots in the trading post using gems. And of course gems don’t need to be bought with real world money, since the gems-for-gold feature is in the game.
The idea of the personal storyline is to make decisions that affect your character in a certain way. To bypass that to have all the story options available doesnt make the story line for your character unique as it’s suposed to be. I would have agreed with you if the only way for players to have more character slots would be with real life money, but that’s not the case.
Valid point. I knew you could get more character slots, but the question here is: What is the ~absolute maximum~ number of character slots you can have? GW1 had an absolute cap; did they remove that cap in GW2?
I dont know about the cap, but currently it’s known that you can have more than 15 character slots.
Interesting…then, perhaps just the ability to replay completed story steps?

I’d say, replayable story is good enough for me. Make new characters if you want the experience the other storylines.
Yes, but some people may want to experience all the stories without having to delete so many characters to make new ones.
I think it would be awesome if there was an NPC who would let you play previously completed story steps, only giving you reduced XP and Gold rewards and no items for recompletion. Additionally, once you’ve totally completed the personal story, making different decisions in previous story steps will unlock the alternate story steps that we didn’t take. Furthermore, for story steps where previous decisions only have a minor effect (such as which ally accompanies you on a mission), you should be able to decide which version of the story step you get by tracing a path through the story tree (only being able to select decisions you’ve actually made before) up to that step.
I hope I explained that clearly enough…
EDIT: You would only be able to go through the possible story steps presented to you by the choices you made at character creation, so if, for instance, you created a Blood Legion charr, you couldn’t play the Iron Legion or Ash Legion story steps. You would still need to make a new character for that.

Shut up and take my support!
Sounds like it would be an extreme pain to implement.
Now, I have completed the clock tower event 12 times, so I’m happy. But, noticing so many other people having such trouble with it, I’ve compiled a list of suggestions that could have made this event more fun for everyone:
1. Make it an instanced event so that there’s no wait time between attempts, and nobody is blocking anyone else’s view.
2. Change everyone into a form of the same size during the event to make it more possible for smaller races to complete it.
3. Create multiple difficulty levels with the hardest setting being what it is now, and two easier settings, and scale the rewards. That will allow the players who are having a harder time to be able to finish the puzzle, and maybe even ease them into the hardest difficulty, while still giving the more skilled players the most rewarding experience. Perhaps in the easier versions, the goo moves slower, and the platforms are slightly larger?
Anyone else have anything to add?
Charr Warrior, no buffs. 12 successful completions before I got bored and stopped for the sake of the smaller people who hadn’t done it yet because they couldn’t see through my big butt.
You don’t have to do the puzzle, you know…
Let me tell you something: I am a quitter. I am a huge quitter among a guild of people who almost never quit, okay? Usually, if I don’t get it right the first few times, I dismiss it as too hard and quit. I myself had that problem in GW1: After two unsuccessful attempts at a mission, I would consider it too hard and give up on it.
It took me 2-3 hours of trying this jumping puzzle to FINALLY get it right. I didn’t give up, whereas most of my guild members actually DID. The feeling of accomplishment was so great that I decided to keep going…I beat it 11 more times.
It’s extremely frustrating, yes. Castlevania hard, even. But once you’ve figured out the right path, the right timing, exactly where to jump and when to jump…it’s semi-simple. If you really care that much about completing it, then don’t give up, you’ll get it. Otherwise, don’t worry about it. Relax and enjoy the rest of the game.
Incidentally, I do feel it would’ve been better to make this an instanced event, instead of making everyone do it together. I was one of those “fat” charr that people have been complaining about…I felt so bad about blocking people’s view that I stopped and changed servers when people started complaining, and stopped altogether after my 12th victory.
