Ok, so we know that Sylvari can and do sleep, but do they actually need to do it? I mean, if sleep was a reaction to a lower photosynthesis environment, wouldn’t they also fall asleep adventuring in a cave? The best I can think of is that Sylvari minds are approximate to Human ones, in that they have a limited information absorption rate per day. Sleep, in the case of Humans, is the brain’s time to sort out all of the information that was gathered, store that which was important, or caused an emotional response, and then discard the rest as short term memory (which is why you remember your first date but not what you had for breakfast on your first date). My theory is that Sylvari basically use sleep as a vehicle to ‘upload’ their memories to the Dream via the Layline network.
The reason I’m asking is because my roommate is starting a Savage Worlds Fantasy campaign, and I’d like to inject the Sylvari into it.
I don’t know if this is an issue exclusive to HoT, but it STARTED when HoT came out. My Human, Female Necromancer seems to randomly blurt out “May Lyssa confound you.” For no reason at all. Just… standing there, and it happens. May be related to other sound bytes you seem to have on loop? Such as the barkeep in the guild hall’s “Something classy, with beer” line?
Ok, here we go. The new Revenant looks, well, amazing. I mean, dual-wielding swords with jade daggers that stab people as a healing spell awesome. This class seems totally prepared to dominate.
In fact… I hate to say it, but it might be too awesome.
I remember not too long ago, when I was playing Guild Wars 1. I ran a Warrior. Beefcake, sword and board at the ready, loaded up on Strength and ready to Hundred Blades any opponent into oblivion. But then came Nightfall. Then, came the Dervish.
Since that day, in Guild Wars 1, there has been no reason whatsoever to play a Warrior.
Damage? Dervish.
Tanking? Dervish.
Single-Target? Dervish.
Multi-Target? Especially Dervish.
More energy? Oh yeah, Dervish.
PVE kings? Dervish again.
PVP usability? What? Oh, Dervish.
Knock knock, who’s there? Dervish.
The only disadvantage to playing those sun-baked special snowflakes was having to fight in a dress.
The Warrior class lost not just its identity, but its usefulness. It’s not that there was a player preference to pick a Derv, it’s that there were clear gameplay advantages to picking a Derv without balancing factors. Ok, so their armor score wasn’t as high, but come on, you built the game with a meta that specifically drove away from tanking anyway, and decided to go for dps race / heals as the only factor.
So now, it’s 2015. I’m playing a Warrior. Again. In a meta without tanking. Again. And dang does this Revenant guy look awesome. I just hope he’s not too awesome.
Ok, first of all, I know the devs are aware of this, but if the 53-page, two-year-old thread doesn’t have enough weight yet, let me just pile on a bit more on the “We Want Cantha” side of things.
I know it’s the devs’ game, and it’s their baby, but juuuuuuuust in case they’re having trouble with the concept of “Well, Human is just one race now, we don’t want /different/ Humans competing with them” then let me present just a few crack-pot ideas.
You need new races? I’ve got three.
1. Tengu.
I haven’t even read this thread but I would be flabbergasted to learn if nobody had suggested this before.
2. Kurzick.
We’ve seen the Dragons’ influence corrupt other races. We have Iceblood and Crystalized and Mordremoth’d people walking around Tyria right now. Why couldn’t something have happened to our Canthan neighbors? Since we already have Sylvari as a tree-influenced race, I would suggest something that everybody associates very closely with the Kurzick: Amber. Imagine a legion of gothic-clad warriors, the sun glinting off their amber-flecked skin, and their eyes burning a baleful gold, charging down the hill at…
3: Luxons.
Just like the influence of the dragons has mutated the Kurzicks into being riddled with amber, the Luxons have been affected as well. Only this is not a copy of the Kurzick idea with a Jade-tinted pallet swap (you only wish I would let you go that easily). The Luxons, having forever been dependent on their giant sea creatures, have started to become one with them. The characters hailing from Cavalon will have evolved to live on land or sea, taking on such marine aspects as gills, webbed hands, fins, or even chitinous shells. Even open up different skin colors for them, like Shrip or Sharkskin.
There you go, if the reason we don’t have Cantha in the works was because you didn’t want to make two different groups of Humans, I just fixed it, free of charge.
Yuck. Looks like it’s time for some yarharhar.
Hey guys, is it just me or has the Guild Wars 2 soundtrack disappeared from the face of the internet? I can’t find it on DirectSong, and the only physical copy I can find is listed at 500 bucks on Amazon. There’s got to be a way to purchase it without paying some internet extortionist, right?
Ok, so I love you Anet, but that first fight against Mordremoth’s pet just stank more than the southbound end of a northbound Dolyak. Give whoever designed that a push down the most convenient staircase for me. I just wound up standing at the respawn point in my underwear, giving myself a cramp in the neck by mashing “1” for forty minutes. I would rather French-kiss a running belt sander than have to play that again. What makes me annoyed the most though is that it wasn’t just hard, it was BORING. I tried using all my tactics, and when I did, I made less progress than when I just played the battle of attrition. I’m no game developer, but you guys are. Please, do something else. Even if it’s just reducing the health of the Dragon Tendrils, because 90% of that fight is killing them while you try to dance to a gray scale disco, dodging half the bright orange things you see and hoping to get lucky dodging the red circles from the tendrils that you can’t see. I spent maybe a total of thirty seconds shooting the actual dragon in its actual face. During this fight, I literally stopped caring why I was doing it, I just wanted it done. Needless to say, I’m going to have to hear from a reputable source that the later episodes are better before I toss you any more money for expansions or Seasons.
I know this is a lowbie quest in Queensdale, but when you get around to it, the Domesticated Moas you are supposed to free from the bandits will not budge. Thanks!
Yeah, I’m gonna need my Kurzicks back. Goth chicks that can shape trees out of stone by singing? Right up my ally, Anet.
Same, kicked off Darkhaven while changing maps. Glad to know it’s not just me.
So I never got the chance to do AC Explore before the changes (mainly because I was far more interested in doing story). But I just tried Path 1 with a group of guildies and wow that’s hard. We managed to make it to the end boss, but with little to no warning of where Hodge is going to throw those AoEs, and how short-lived they are, leading the spawns into them becomes a matter of luck and not skill. We got to the Howling King and called it a night. Took us 3 hours.
Ok, thanks guys! Looks like more moles will meet their end this evening!
The Point in question is the Tomb of Stoneskin, in Dredgehaunt Cliffs. More specifically, in the Dostoev Sky Peak area. There’s a locked door that must be opened to get to the Point of Interest. When I inspect the door, it simply says that it’s locked.
Now, this may have nothing to do with my problem, but the first time I visited the area, there was an Ice Imp Lord boss there, who I killed, and tried to walk through the then-open doors. I was prevented by some sort of invisible wall, like the doors should not have been open for me.
So, if it’s still possible, how do I open these doors? I’ve checked the wiki, all it says is to examine and open them, it says nothing about them being locked.
I just confirmed that the Vault worked for me on Darkhaven! Thanks Anet!
