“Faceroll”
Context: “DB plus 3 and 5 = faceroll all through that dungeon, ftw”
Or, “…you are gonna faceroll all the way to 80, bro”

Basically, that you don’t have to think and can win by just doing “facerolls” on the keyboard (imagine putting your face down on the keyboard and rolling from one side to the other) to trigger your abilities. No skill involved with this play style.

“Theme Park”
Context: “…the game is so theme park, its kitten casualsauce”

a “Theme Park” experience is one where you’re pretty much led from point A to point B. There are quests and storylines that make it feel like you’re going through a theme park. The cost of the game and/or the monthly subscription can feel like the price of the ticket you pay to enter the theme park. Everything you do has little impact on the world and it will always pretty much be the same no matter what path you take.

“Sandbox”
Context: “I wish it were more sandbox, but love it…”

A sandboxed game is one where you can pretty much go wherever you want, do whatever you want without a script – you’re not following a scripted path (pretty much the opposite of a theme park style game)

Core issue, Skills

I honestly have to say I disagree with your position on this situation. A change is IMHO not required for the weapon skills as they are.

In the case of many other MMOs you have a list of skills that you can associate with your skill bar. Sometimes (but only sometimes) were skills specifically associated with specific weapons. Now, since skills had positives and negatives, most worked out which skills were the best to always have available regardless of weapon causing characters of a specific class to operate in a somewhat similar manner.

I feel the weapon skill structure in GW2 is clever and provides significant diversity to game play amongst the different characters. It also reinforces that the weapons themselves are different. It allows people to carry different weapons to offer different skills to allow them to play the way they want rather then everyone using varied weapons with the same skills. On my warrior, I feel my character operate differently whether I’m dual wielding swords or dual wielding axes or carrying a sword and a shield, etc. Why? Because my skills reinforce that “Hey, this is what I’m using, this is what these weapons are capable of in my hands”.

IMHO, the system now isn’t broken and doesn’t need a rethink or retool to improve it. I’m not saying some balance tweaking isn’t necessary but that’s different from a complete system change like you suggest. There are tons of other games that offer that type of system (use whatever skills you want in whatever slot), the weapon associated skills is something that makes this game unique in the MMO world and for many of us a lot of fun.

I swap weapons to change skills, and if the situation needs, prior to getting into a battle , I’ll completely change my weapon set and change my play style to accommodate the situation. Changing to what you suggest would turn the game into more of a face roll style of play where now you have to consider what you’re using and why you’re using it. So, in the end, I have to disagree with the proposed change to the system.

Another thing to consider – you don’t have to stand face to face to an opponent while in a slugfest – aside from all of the dodges and attack skills (as mentioned before, on my thief w/ dual daggers, #3 (death blossom) is my favorite tool in the arsenal) – move around, do strafe runs around the mob to try to stay on the move and behind as much as possible.

Unlike so many other MMO’s and various RPGs, the last thing you want to do is sit in front of the mob button mashing without movement.

It does take a bit of practice, but once you’re accustomed to it the play style is a lot of fun and you may even find that MMO’s (and single player RPG’s) that make you stand still will start to feel boring.

Did I do something wrong here?,If I did why they didnt warn me or anything?
. . .
the Q here what can I do at this situation?

Here’s what I find interesting of this topic:

1) The OP specifically asked – “Did I do something wrong here?” which the OP was told by many people, yeah, you did – but instead of accepting that the OP gets bent out of shape claiming people didn’t read his post and that he/she did nothing wrong.

2) The second question – “why didn’t they warn me?” was pretty much answered in one way or another – without being those people in the specific group no one will know for sure why you (the OP) weren’t warned.

3) The final question – “what can I do?” was also answered – don’t group with those people, group with friends, find a guild and group with them only. There is no reporting because a group didn’t like you and decided to kick you for something YOU did.

Now, my thoughts on the matter are simple:

  • Both the OP and the group could have handled it better at the time.
  • You (the OP) probably made the group members rather mad stating that you would “just wait” until they finished the fight. Honestly, if I was running the group I would have told you to rez at WP and run back or risk getting kicked. I’ve fought all of the boss fights in TA and even when I was new there, unless the group told me to just wait, I revived at the WP. The tree at the end can be a pain in the butt up close and much easier at range; I don’t blame them for not wanting to risk dying to go in to rez you when you could have easily tapped out to the WP. Just because they are level 80’s doesn’t mean they are invincible.
  • The group could have handled it better by when you stated that asking you to rez regardless of your being lazy in feeling that the fight would be too short and that you should just wait.
  • As mentioned before, many people want to see that you’re at least trying to be part of the group and support the progression through the instance; even at the end boss. Laying to wait is not trying.
  • Even though you mention that it’s such a “easy and short” fight, you died there – being your first time on that given path, you either didn’t know the fight or didn’t understand it which means that it may have really been a short or long fight but you should have tried to participate more by reviving and coming back.
  • As also mentioned, PUGs are really random. I’ve been with PUG groups that have been incredible where we were making record breaking speed runs with no wipes and I’ve been with PUG groups that an instance that should take 30 to maybe 40 minutes took over 2 hrs. People and quality of players is random. EVEN in a guild it can be random. But, if you’re in a guild and find a good team to work with, you’ll have a more enjoyable time.

Now my thoughts on it: this probably wasn’t the only thing that happened during this run that frustrated or infuriated the other members of the group. You’re giving us a small portion of the entire run (the final boss fight); other things may have happened or had been said that we don’t know about (even though you state that nothing else happened during the run, that may not be how the other group members feel about it). What you did and how you said what you would do is the type of thing that would make many people fairly upset with your playstyle and more likely to boot you if the opportunity rises; both the group and yourself (the OP) holds responsibility in this matter. Learn from it and move on, grand scheme of things it was a single instance run and can be re-experienced. Just because you didn’t get the responses (or support) in game or here for the injustice that you felt doesn’t mean that you should leave the game or the forums.

I’m not sure where you came up with this timing (unless you’re not realizing that pm is not am) – 12pm is LUNCH time, NOT midnight which is 12AM. So the event will be at 3pm est, NOT 3am. Also, if you look at the post, they refer to GMT as well – 19:00GMT is 15:00 EST which is 3pm your time.

PS: Looks like a lot of other posts came in while I was writing mine and there were 0 responses lol, guess I need to type faster

In my view: Costume Brawl = pay to win

I see one major issue with your argument – P2W usually means you need to use real cash to get an advantage within the game. Completely aside from the other arguments posted here (about being successful with non-gem costumes, the fact that the mini game has no real impact on your success of the overall game of GW2, etc.) – there is another argument:

You don’t HAVE to get gems via cash. Gems can just as easily be purchased via in game earned coin (copper, silver, gold) which is many, if not most, of the times impossible in true P2W games.

If you argue that it’s just too expensive with the exchange rate – the rate has fluctuated from launch day, even during the event it has gone from 40s to 80s when I’ve checked the TP. If you bought it really early to hold onto you may have even payed between ~20 and 30s / 100 gems.

So, IMHO, it truly isn’t P2W as it doesn’t require real money to get an advantage; you can use silver/gold to get the gems to get that same advantage (which has been pointed out isn’t even an advantage if you know how to really use the skills you have in temporary acquired costumes).
