Yes that is Kas in the middle and Jory on the left side of the loading screen. It doesn’t bear a direct resemblance to the in game NPC’s since every ArenaNet artist has a different way of depicting the in game characters.

Does no one remember during Queen’s Jubilee and the Crown Pavilion updates, we had a wallpaper with Rox on it despite not really looking like Rox?

Nightsong.5973

To be truthfully honest. If they did do a livestream, how much could they possibly have shown? Based on the update page for Tower of Nightmares, it looks to be a small patch. So… either:

A) It truly is a small patch and ArenaNet did run into technical problems

or…

B) Unforeseen circumstances is just their way of throwing everyone off and not spoiling the entire update before it goes live (due to other parts of the patch not being mentioned on the update page)

Why I think Mordremoth is next!

Nightsong.5973

Here’s the thing… we don’t know what Mordremoth’s powers are.
Does he create followers by killing them and raising them / reanimating the dead (Zhaitan)?
Does he create followers out of molten rock (Primordus)?
Does he create follows out of ice and the promise of power (Jormag)?
Does he create followers out of his corrupting breath (Kralkatorrik)?

I personally feel that Mordremoth is similar to the fallen human god, Abaddon. Whispers in the night that slowly drive someone insane / bring them under your influence to sow chaos and discord in the world. We know that Abaddon was capable of this, could Mordremoth be the same? Scarlet did go into her vision sane and peaceful but came out insane and violent. That change probably came about from an encounter with Mordremoth.

Also… the Pale Tree, she probably knows somewhat the extent of the Sylvari’s immunity to the Elder Dragon corruption but she cannot confirm it against Mordremoth without sacrificing any of her children. This could explain why The Pale Tree tried to stop Scarlet from going further, she had an idea of what would happen and tried to save her.

Why Krait glowing?

Nightsong.5973

Mordremoth I think got cranky. He’s fed up of Scarlet failing him time and time again so he went and corrupted the Krait who already hate all the other races of Tyria. Why not? Turn the most xenophobic race in Tyria even more xenophobic, add in a bit of Elder Dragon corruption, and set them loose to wipe out the other races.

Krait by themselves are obnoxious to fight. A Krait infused with Elder Dragon energies could be a major problem.

Nightsong.5973

Well… if the Living World story was eventually going to lead up to an Elder Dragon being introduced or new areas being introduced it was going to go one of a few ways:
- Kralkatorrik and the Crystal Desert
- Jormag and the Far Northern Shiverpeaks
- Primordus and the Tyrian Depths
- Bubbles and the Unending Ocean
- Mordremoth and the Magumma Jungle

So far, it seems that a lot of the Living World lately has revolved around Magumma and the possible connections there to the Elder Dragon Mordremoth.

Why Krait glowing?

Nightsong.5973

Unless that glow is caused by them being corrupted by an Elder Dragon (the unknown Jungle Dragon Mordremoth). The Risen (Zhaitan) are dead folk, Crystalized enemies (Kralkatorrik) have their flesh turned to crystal, Sons of Svanir (Jormag) are mostly normal looking but a few of his minions are made of ice.

Could this next update (Tower of Nightmares) finally be leading into the culmination of what’s been happening around Tyria for the past year? If you look at the full map of Tyria, you can see that the water in Kessex Hills originates somewhere in Magumma. This is the same place that the supposed sixth Elder Dragon (Mordremoth) is. The Krait in the trailer are obviously corrupted by something, could they have been corrupted by Mordremoth himself (same possibility as Scarlet)? Main reasoning behind why Mordremoth might be involved is due to the Krait Obelisk having hints of corrupted Sylvari architecture and in the Crucible of Eternity it is shown that Nightmare Husks and Poison Blossoms are somehow related to the jungle Elder Dragon.

Think about the differing storylines so far:
- Flame and Frost: refugees driven south by the Dredge and Flame Legion. Tested the might of the Norn and Charr and how they deal with a crisis.
- Dragon Bash / Sky Pirates: assassination of a Lions Arch council member. Tested the might of the Lion Guard and how they deal with a crisis.
- Queen’s Jubilee / Clockwork Chaos: assassination attempt against the human Queen. Tested the might of the human army and how they deal with a crisis.

So far, the storyline’s involving Scarlet creating her army have put the armies of the Norn, the Charr, the Lion Guard, and the Humans on edge. Could the reasoning for this be that Scarlet (and in turn Mordremoth who corrupted her) be testing the strength and response of the respective races of Tyria? Also, think about the races that comprise Scarlet’s army: the Dredge, the Flame Legion, and the Aetherblades. Two of those races (Dredge and Flame Legion) would normally never ally themselves with an outsider. The Aetherblades themselves say that it is better to serve Scarlet than the alternative. Is it possible that the three races that make up the army do not fear Scarlet herself but the power that has corrupted her (Mordremoth)? The same could possibly be said of the Krait, they are xenophobic and would never ally with a Sylvari. However, if they were to be corrupted by an Elder Dragon, it would be much easier to put them under the control of Scarlet who is already corrupted.

Just some food for thought on how the Living World could all be related.

As much as I want to know what the Krait are building all I’m hoping for is this: if it is a giant tower, I want a pair of diving goggles at the top so I can jump off and hopefully not hit anything on the way down.

Ok… I’ll bite…

In terms of an expansion: ArenaNet has a staff of about 250 employees. If I remember correctly, each of the four living world teams has roughly 20 main people (based on pictures posted of some of the LW teams back a few months ago and the number of people per team could have changed since it has been a while since those pictures were posted) with other people pulled in if necessary. So let’s say that the Living World takes up 100-125 employees. What have all the other employees been doing the past year? Either they have been pulled in for Living World work or they have been working on larger expansion content that can’t be talked about yet (as you said NCSoft / ArenaNet hushed up very quickly on expansion talk).

On to the other topic of the Elder Dragon Mordremoth. It is very possible that is what Scarlet saw and that he is influencing her. In Scarlet’s short story, the Pale Tree even warned her of going further which hints that the Pale Tree possibly knows about Mordremoth’s corruption and was trying to save her (the Sylvari themselves seem very tuned to the dragons and to their corruption as seen in the starting personal cinematic). Some other interesting things to think about:
- The Dredge and Flame Legion (Molten Alliance) and Aetherblades say they are working for Scarlet due to their fear of her power. Could it be that they don’t fear Scarlet herself but the power that controls her (Mordremoth)?
- In the Crucible of Eternity, the enemies in Mordremoth’s room are Husks and Hounds which are both creations of the Pale Tree and Sylvari.

Now, onto the Krait and their obelisk. I don’t think the Krait would ever bow to Scarlet, they are way too xenophobic for that. We don’t really know why the Krait would build the obelisk unless their prophets have returned.

In all honesty I’m hoping this is a build up to an Elder Dragon being introduced and it is highly possible that it could be one we wouldn’t expect due to the known ones and their current state.
- Primordus: he drove the Asura and Dredge to the surface; the Dwarves turned to stone and fought him in the depths; based on what Ogden says, he is the last surviving dwarf but that the other dwarves died in pushing back and keeping Primordus underground
- Kralkatorrik: he flew off after fighting against Destiny’s Edge; most likely recovering from that fight (and the one with Glint) while still trying to fend off Palawa Joko and his undead army
- Jormag: he’s up in the Northern Shiverpeaks; the Norn did manage to fight him back temporarily before being driven south; we don’t know how much of an effect that fight had on him
- Zhaitan: killed at the end of the Arah story mode; Tequatl looks to have absorbed some of his masters power after Zhaitan was killed
- Bubbles / Mordremoth: hanging in the background and not engaging Tyria at the moment; could the reason be that they are testing the strength of major races of Tyria before striking?

Of the six Elder Dragons, one is dead (Zhaitan), two are recovering from fights (Primordus and Kralkatorrik), one is possibly recovering (Jormag), and two are not engaging (Bubbles and Mordremoth).

Who knows… ArenaNet could easily use the Krait and the obelisk as a hook into the post-Scarlet living world arc and have something to go off of once we wrap up Scarlet’s storyline which I believe is supposed to end at the end of this year / beginning of next.

How is WVW part of the LS ?

in Living World

Nightsong.5973

Season 1 of WvW starts October 18th and goes for seven weeks. Once that is over, Season 2 will probably kick in. So in that way it is part of the evolving living world in that it isn’t a static event / set of achievements. The achievements are around for the duration of Season 1 then move on to give way for the achievements of Season 2.

Basically it all boils down to the fact that the WvW Season is a temporary event that lasts for ‘X’ amount of time before giving way to the next Season.

The fact that we have four ArenaNet developers, two of whom happen to be the Game Director and GW2 Lead Writer, has me very intrigued as to what this all means.

I’m all for learning more about the Krait since it could lead into more backstory about the Deep Sea Dragon, aka Bubbles, since the Krait alongside the Quaggan were driven north by that dragon.

Also, I could swear that ArenaNet said that we would be wrapping up the Scarlet storyline by the end of this year and this update could be used as a hook to go into next year and post-Scarlet living world updates.

Good job on this one Anet

So far I’m loving the little touches that the Bloody Prince has brought to the table in terms of Halloween.

Also, the tweaks in Kryta intrigue me. Now that ArenaNet has created all their holiday content I’m curious to see where they dedicate their resources and take the living story. Yes… the start has been slow but they did have to build up the infrastructure and holiday content that will come back each year (Halloween, Wintersday).

Zhaitan is alive

in Living World

Posted by: Nightsong.5973

Nightsong.5973

Well, here’s the thing, each of the Elder Dragons represent a primal aspect of nature:
- life (guessing it’s Mordromoth the jungle Elder Dragon)
- death (Zhaitan)
- earth (Kralkatorrik)
- air (Jormag)
- fire (Primordus)
- water (Bubbles also known as the Deep Sea Dragon)

I highly doubt that it would be possible to kill death or anything that is an aspect of death. My own guess on what happened at the end of the Arah story is that the cannons (which are based on the studies of the Inquest into dragon energy) weakened Zhaitan to the point he’s withdrawn back into hibernation to lick his wounds (we never did see a body and it’s assumed that because Zhaitan fell from the tower after being hit by the cannons he is well and truly dead). Due to Zhaitan retreating, his vast amount of power and control had to go somewhere, say his second in command, Tequatl the Sunless. This would explain why Tequatl has suddenly gotten much stronger yet none of the other dragon champions (Shatterer and Claw) have had much of a power increase since their master is still alive and well.

And the next living story is...

A storyline exploring the Sylvari and delving more into their backstory would be nice as the past few living story updates have been focused on the other four races.

Canach's Lair (solo) - need advice

in Last Stand at Southsun

Nightsong.5973

So the solo instance of Canach’s Lair. I really don’t know what I’m doing wrong but I’m finding the dungeon nigh on impossible to complete. I run into two situations when I run the place, either…

1) I am able to disable the bombs around Canach yet when I pull Canach I get knocked down and around the room continuously by him with him managing to reset the bombs which kill me almost from the start.

2) I somehow manage to avoid getting knocked down and around by Canach yet I can only get him to 75% health before he goes full on invulnerable to even the bomb damage then resets the fight with him back at full health.

Does anyone have any advice on how to do this dungeon?

Next Elder Dragon?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Nightsong.5973

Next Elder Dragon, who knows… but there are a lot of hints in the game that point towards either Jormag or Primordus.

Jormag: The Kodan and the Norn both have a huge grudge against this Elder Dragon since it drove both of them south.

Primordus: Asura (and many other subterranean races) were forced to the surface and probably want to reclaim their homelands. Also, the Tengu mention that the minions of Primordus have shown up in the Dominion of the Winds (their capital city).

Yea… ever since the butter change I see about 25 butter (and chocolate) drop for every other crafting material. It’s really funny since I feel ArenaNet is secretly telling us to go make cookies.

So, who's ready for Kodan?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Nightsong.5973

Nightsong.5973

Well, ArenaNet can do the following…

- Kodan added as a playable race alongside fighting Jormag

- Tengu added as a playable race alongside fighting Kralkatorrik and reopening Cantha

Personally I’d love to see both of them get added since they have interesting lore and also… who doesn’t want to play as a giant polar bear or bird.
