With the current USD vs Canadian dollar exchange it would be 74$ to get HOT. Not worth the price, I will wait for it to go on sale as they did frequently for the core game as I assume a pet will follow that template. Hopefully around the holidays it will be more affordable
They way I see it is they announced it to try and keep players interested and keep them from leaving cause of lack of new content so they would have us believe that they have been working on this for awhile, while in reality they were still in the beginning and started throwing stuff together. I love the game and ppl but it’s starting to get stale doing nothing but the same stuff repetitively
Exactly this! The had the logo, green colour scheme and the promo vid ready back in Feb as that’s really as far in development as they went and there trying to push pre-purchasing to fund the rest of the team to finish the expansion…at least that’s the vibe i’ve been getting from them for a solid couple of weeks now!
So they got rid of the post in the news section addressing the char slot and now it’s in the HoT sub forum and not even a pinned thread. Seems sketchy…I was going to pre-purchase it eventually but Anet is really keeping that red flag vibe going strong…
I just wish we had some time frame of when they will announce the content of the expansion as they kind of between the lines worded for a August release date. and price wise Anet did do damage control to include the char slot but I need price match for Canadians 61.62$ with conversion is a little excessive
I just wish they released the release date, a list of all what the expansion will include and more details on the beta week end thing if you pre-purchase…unless anyone knows where there is more info on that. I was on the fence but I feel it is reasonable since GW2 isn’t pay to play they can’t create more content out of thing air they need to get paid which I understand 49.99 tho when you go to pre purchase is in USD and i’m in Canada that’s 61.65$ (I forgave them for the added char slot but now this is ridiculous) if you want to advertise it at 50$ make it so all around for any country
for a game that doesn’t cost a thing to play per month some of you guys are complaining allot. I will agree the phrasing of how they said it at first was a little misleading but that’s business…however Anet did address it and you get the char slot, yes it’s only pre-purchase but at the same time they do need funds apart from the gem store to develop the game to decent standards…a one time charge of 50$ is hardly unreasonable heck it’s 40$ if you pre-purchase since that char slot is 10$
So with the added character slot the expansion is roughly 40$ if you factor in character slot being roughly 10$ makes it somewhat more reasonable but still unfair if after launch the expansion would still be 50$ and no character slot. Also regardless having no official release date and beta week ends yet you can pre-purchase makes it seem sketchy. But with the recent asumption of an August release hopefully it will push Anet to give a release date soon and actually post more blog post with the list of what will all be included in the expansion

How I see it, you need the game again to play HoT (the new GW2 launcher is the only possible way to get into the game) and you can’t just add on to the current at least yet. And possibly in the future they will offer a expansion only.
If not, it’s bull i’m not getting it at 50$ for the little content they have to offer…they have teased the new specialisations and other things with out a release date and they are keeping there hype train with there "where not actually done yet but give us more cash to pay the developers and in exchange will let you beta test what we have so far) which is really poor tactics IMO
Unless they address the issue with veteran players who already have the base game, there coming across as money hungry…in example with no new character slow etc…
The way there hyping it up as if it where coming with in several weeks, which is NOT the case. I feel around August which could go well with the games 3 year anniversary.
However there promo campaign is….odd…to say the least.
any leads on around when they will release the beta ?
I’m interested in the expansion and I’m 90% likely to pick it up but I think that what they’ve revealed so far is not hugely impressive – from the vague details we’ve had on masteries and how they’ll work it “feels” like a Feature Pack – but we’ll see once the details come on the number and types of masteries, the number of zones being added, the size of the zones, details on the story lines in those zones and so on.
I’m curious if they’re adding actual Story Journal content or if this’ll be just be open world maps. If there’ll be dungeons (and work done on making dungeons better). If there’ll be more guild missions and so on. Stuff “hidden” within the details of the features listed on the HoT page but I suspect there won’t be.
I think that the fact that they have answered so few questions about what’s in, and perhaps more importantly, what’s not in the upcoming expansion and what upcoming updates to expect is very telling. I don’t think this expansion is all that far along at all, it’ll be a long time coming, with little new content between now and release, IMO.
I agree, and actually discussing with my bf who got me into the game..what i’ve come to theorise about it is the actual expansion is like you mentioned going to be more of a feature pack to add to the current living story but there will be elements added from the HoT expansion that in the future will give them more elements to work with when they in the future release new chapters. For example with the masteries system will play a roll in completing new living story content.
it’s a great idea but not plausible, since there putting such emphasis on the expansion which with the information given to date isn’t going to be all that big content wise, and to be able to implement your idea they would need to re-work the entire game which would be tedious in the long run.
“Does anyone else feel unimpressed?” How about, why do you even deserve to be impressed? If you don’t like it, you can do something else with your time. ANet doesn’t have to make you happy when they have millions of other players.
Maybe you should relax and just try to enjoy things, instead of immediately looking for all the bits you don’t like. I think you’ll find yourself much happier in life.
to a certain extent I agree 100% , but it’s normal for people to just speculate on what they will possibly give there money to…specially on an online forum lol , but I agree to jump the gun to try and find everything bad or that doesn’t measure up to what they had planed if they where to design an expansion themselves is obsessing over nothing.
I just feel personally that the hype they made for HoT at the announcement was premature in a sense with out still giving to much information and that sadly that approach in the long run can kill the momentum and chances of fans buying it if hyped to far in advance.
Having GW2 being my first real online game to have gotten and really gotten into and playing regularly I feel compared to other games the content for the price is perfect.
Specially with the no monthly subscription fee, and from what I hear from other people it really is a different template than let’s say WOW or LOL (never played n’either of those) so obviously the expansion will be different. Personally I will see on the price, if they jack the price to almost the price of the game it would be a kitten move and I don’t have any reference from the original GW since I wasn’t around then and if it is similar tactics they might of used back then with the expansions that they released.
From what information we do have now it really is just a small extension of the already living story. Which leads me to believe it shouldn’t be that high of a price would be a smart move unless they suddenly decide to drop a news bomb and have been holding out on allot of information about the expansion which I don’t believe is the case.

This spring 90% sure.
I agree….latest around summer…if they would want to go with promo of releasing it around the time they released the base game.
if <$10 yes, otherwise no tnx.
No Tengu no money for u!Do you really think something with that much content will be that low? I mean sure it isn’t a huge expansion from what has been revealed so far, but the fact that there introducing a new class all together it wont go for that cheap.
look here:
http://store.guildwars.com/store/gw/en_IE/cat/categoryID.67871700/currency.EUR/ccRef.
this is the store with FULL games and they have more content then HoT would ever have, you really think an expansion can be more expensive just because of a new profession, and just one to make things worse.it’s not “with that much content” but instead “with that little content”.
sure, it’s worth more then $10 but 20-30 is really the max i would pay for it.
How where the original Guild Wars expansions? Having only recently become a fan of the game roughly a year ago. And well that’s the thing, is there a list or more or less what will be in the expansion that we may know of so far?
And I agree around 20-30$ max I really don’t believe it will be anything bigger in terms of content that should equal to any price higher than 30$

between me and my bf most likely. I mean everything other than the game and add ons have been free so why not. I still for my own piece of mind want to see the actual list of all the new content and price beforehand
Realistically, sure, I would have said grab a Sager lappy for games, but when it comes down to it, laptop brand won’t affect performance. The Dell you picked out is a good performer, and if it has an expansion slot for an SSD to easily be added, it will transform any slow load times to lightning quick like you bought an even newer pc.
The biggest plus I see is that you ordered an i5 with it instead of an i3, which will help you tremendously in this game. Just, don’t expect to not lag. You may very well see the effect once you find a large group event or WvW.
Overall for a laptop though, it looks good to me.
Thanks! Yeah I figured it was probably not on the list of top gaming laptops but for the price was a major improvement over my late 2009 macbook which technically didn’t even fit the game requirements but I still played and enjoyed the game, having seen my boyfriend play from his desktop (I wanna say HP Pavillion 500 series but not sure) the graphics just made it look like a completely different game, yes ofcourse there will be some lag depending on which part of the map your in or during events but it was to a point where it was stuttering so badly and was afraid my mac would end up shorting out from the fan working overtime.
Hi,
So this is my first topic and i’ve previously played GW2 on my macbook white unibody with major lag for the most part and yesterday ordered a new laptop one of the main reasons was to have a better performing PC to tackle the game so I just would like you’re advice on the specs in terms of gameplay and how smooth it will run. I’m sure it will be an improvement on my last laptop but still though id ask actual members.
Thanks

and before posting, i’m not looking for “you should of gotten this laptop” “that laptop sucks” constructive discussions please.
What is your budget, that will help us make a better suggestion.
that laptop has a couple weak points, but before we go there please answer the above question :-)
oh sorry if I didn’t specify, but i’ve ordered in already and it’s on it’s way. It’s from a new line of dell laptops that I believe just came out as of early may 750$ (CAN) is what I paid for it. I figured unless I build my own from scratch there is bound to be certain aspects of it that could be better. But you can’t really bake your cake and have a piece as well I suppose.
