I’m not sure if im the only one, but I feel there’s no reason to rejoice. Things like “Immobilize stacks 5 times” how many reliable ways do we have to do that compared to other classes? We have the worst condi removal on top of that.

Or “Sic ’Em: This shout now applies 4 seconds of revealed on the targeted enemy”. How is this not an indirect nerf?

Who wants to run around for 3ish seconds casting mantras in the middle of a fight…

Compared to what most other classes got we’re lower than we were before. If they wanted to increase our support why not increase projectile speed on staff a bit.. or reduce the cooldown of sigent of insp by 5-10 second.

While i agree that there really isnt much reason to rejoice, i dont see other classes heaving parties because of overwhelming buffs (cuz there arnt any). Actually, all the class profession forums read like the world is ending.

Honestly, the mesmer has a few issues, but none of those that you listed. We pretty much stayed the same as we were, with scepter getting a nice boost and mantras getting a minor one.

How much WvW or PvP have you played since the patch mate? It’s not pretty…especially in WVW 10-15 seconds of immoblize over and over from a single warrior? And i see ele’s and warriors rejoicing everywhere in chat.

Please don’t try to compare WvW to traditional games and sports. How many football games do you see where one team has twice as many players as the other? Unlike sport WvW has almost no skill. The server with the larger group of noobs running around pressing 1 for more hours of the day wins. The recent changes just make the problem that little bit worse.

Massive lag spikes, 3 second skill delay, constant d/cs with this error code.
I’m on a fiber connection and gw2 is the only thing I have issues with.

Yep same here, 3 second skill delay everywhere, mists, Lions Arch etc.. Everything was fine yesterday. My speed test is fine, i have 0 downloading and turned off all anti virus etc… still massive lag.

I 100% agree with the OP. I think a lot of people on the forum just looked at the patch notes and started posting before they played for a few hours.

Since the patch the PPT in my match up has been closer than it has been all week, so if anything, so far its balanced the match up not tilted the points to the wining team.
I’ve not seen more than a minor orb buff on myself and that keeps flicking on and off, so the stats boost isn’t anywhere near as bad as people make out.

It really does make the game more fun. On paper it looks terrible, in practice its been great so far. Thank you Anet.

Roaming Class

To be good at roaming, a class needs:
-Out of combat mobility
-A lot of damage mitigation
-At least 2 escapes
-Enough stopping power to kill an enemy (at least if you plan to SOLO roaming).
The reason for all these things is so that you won’t be destroyed the moment you see a zerg coming while you’re fightning and so that you will not get killed if a random thief joins the fight and Basilisk/Backstabs you.

Considered all the above, I would rate classes in this way:

1-D/P Thief (a good D/P thief NEVER dies, has one of the best OOC mobility in the game and can disengage at will).
2-Warrior, both condi and stunlock (high mobility and escapes, high tankiness, high damage)
3-D/D Elementalist (above average ooc mobility, great escapes with FGS, high tankiness. But very low damage).
3 (on par witht the above) – Condi Engineer (above average ooc mobility, nice escape with rocket boots, average tankiness, high AoE condi damage)
5 – Any not zerker Ranger (high ooc mobility, average escapes, above average tankiness, could be specced for high condition damage or very high tankiness)
6 – Mesmer (worst ooc mobility in the game, bad escapes, good damage mitigation, very high damage)
7 – Guardian (average ooc mobility, below average escapes, very high damage mitigation, very bad damage dealer)
8 – Necro (average ooc mobility, bad escapes, below average damage mitigation, high damage).

It’s really difficult not to get killed as a mesmer or as a necro when things get bad, despite being able to deal a lot of damage. Mesmers COULD take on more opponent while searching for a way out, but in open field both these classes will die.
Guardians, despite being a lot tankier, have the same problem: almost no way to escape death if a zerg catches up with you, although you will be really hard to kill. Terrible for solo roaming as you won’t kill anything aside from upleveleds or kittened people who die to your Retailation.

Rangers could be either tanky (but with more escapes than guardians) or condi damage dealers (way less damage than necro/engis, but nice escapes). Average roaming class.

A well spec’d/played Mesmer is one of the top roaming classes. Far superior to engis and rangers at least. Being able to chain 15+ seconds of stealth is a much more effective way to escape a zerg than anything else. If a zerg can see you then some if not all of them will chase you. The only thing you must do is make up for the lack of swiftness by running rune of the centaur or air.

I’ve seen a few comments along the same line as this in this thread. Late last year there was a a few weeks where CD had a huge number advantage over TC and smashed us… Take a guess at what CD did outside of NA prime time every night without exception?

lol, the people that were on CD last year are the very same people who now populate the higher tier servers including yours. Those who were camping you back then are more than likely to be the exact same people you are playing alongside now.

Luckily for us on CD, the 2-3 guild exoduses we’ve experienced have removed some of the more toxic players from our community.

Ok mate love the “most likely” bit, clearly only the top 4 servers have toxic spawn campers on them. The reality is that if CD was wining there would be people on your server doing the exact same thing.

Different teams are different? You can’t simply repurpose entire teams on a project this large. The people developing content probably use custom tools for world editing and do less fiddling with the inner workings of the game’s databases. The skill sets for both aren’t necessarily interchangeable.

I, for one, like the fact that I can expect to see a new puzzle every month or so. It’s one of my favorite things to do in the game.

Your not getting it, the main point of my thread is for Anet to take a deep breath, just fix what they have already and think about the old gw1 crew without changing too much, hell even fixing the bugs would be enough for now. Not for long, even just for a month or two as i said. Make what you have already good. A quarter of the skills on the 2 level 80’s I have are either bugged or the tool tip is inaccurate….

GW2 has some great elements, I really like this game but, hate online puzzles. In my opinion there is 0 skill in pressing space bar + forward on floating steps while getting knocked off by something that you can’t predict just to get rez’d and repeat the process knowing what you know now. It actually make me feel nauseous when this happens over and over, boarder line car sick. I feel like a mouse trapped in a maze.

I played GW1 for 3ish years for one reason, it’s awesome pvp. But we only have 3 options to do this which is the same as guild wars 1. The more people in pvp the less skill required to do “well”. More random elements come into play. Weak players can hide behind allies etc etc…..

I don’t have 4 friends online at the same time who want to tPvP. So I’m left with 8v8 spvp or wvw which actually has a better chance of a 1v1 if you hang around the right area’s (ie :other servers spawn). In wvw there is way less pressure for individual players to go cap/flip points.

People like me are a minority it seems despite GW heritage which IS PvP. Give me a straight fight even if its unfair and I’m down. This goes for PvE to why do i have to run around a mountain 3-4 times just to realize that the entrance to the skill point I’m doing is underwater half the map away. There is nothing to be gained by that but wasting the players time, and vista’s don’t even get me started….

There was a guild msg I saw today “fractals level 1 lfg” I hadn’t done this controversial dungeon before so i thought I’d give it a try…… Our group got the underwater one where you get turned into a dolphin. It was possibly one of the worst gaming experiences I’ve ever had, top 3 at least. But I didn’t want to let my group down so i had to go through over an hour of torture.

Please Anet can we have a patch or two that doesn’t add brain dead space bar+forward content for the wow masses and just fixes the 10000 bugs. And please add a 4v4 or 1v1 arena and ill love you forever.

I agree 100%. For WvW you can acheive 100% Swiftness uptime with rune of the centaur + mirror & temporal curtain. Makes all the difference in the world when moving between locations in WvW. When you cast mirror or any heal that swiftness you gain is AoE so you’re keeping other people moving with the zerg too. (I’m a condition build and use it despite the power bonuses it does give +15% bleed duration though)

Yep but the power is great for shatters which us condi mes should be spamming to so for me every stat it gives is perfect synergy. On that note if your swiftness hits your illusions they run in faster to shatter…..

The best thing i ever did for my mes for wvw and pve was put rune of the centaur on. I couldn’t play without it. It free’s up your secondary since your not forced to go focus for swiftness and when used with mirror heal is an awesome escape tool.

Do not however trait any points into inspiration if your on staff as someone else suggested. Its the most useless trait line we have since our base health is great and the healing power is worthless since we can’t heal other people (without mantra heal trait which is crap). Go chaos instead since its far easier to spread boons on allies rather than heal them. Also you get staff cd trait for more chaos storm armor etc….

Maybe the OP and everyone else knows this already but you can reset all your traits for 3.5 silver in queensdale near the shaemoor waypoint. I leave my character there and jump in and out of wvw, some days ill change my traits 3-4 times just experimenting it costs very little….

TC still seems to have stupid numbers. Wonder why. Not very good, per usual but yeah, zerball ftw. Where’d ya get the extra people from, I wonder.

I’m from TC and i agree with you having played 4-5 days a week of WvW on this server since launch pretty much…. A few months ago we were the underdog, it was way more fun. Now there is nothing but TC care bears posting on this thread who 90% of, when we were down were nowhere to be seen. I feel like a core group of about 100 people hold the fort 24/7 and did what we can to secure any points we could it was a real rush having out man’d buff most of the time and still making a dent.

The commander level on TC has dropped overall, I watched as my own guild new commanders spend 3-4 hour tonight trying to take Yaks keeps (which they eventually did). To me it felt like they were on a self indulgent quest, all it achieved was giving half the map to FA, ego, and losing huge sums of badges/gold in siege, while making 0 for the people following them. As you say the only reason we got anything done was numbers.

Again when we were down, getting smashed by CD, sos or blackgate etc, a few months ago there was no queue, now every time i try and get into EB i have to wait. I’m sure its the same story on any server that’s wining their bracket. Sorry for the negativity but i can’t help but feel this way….. Maybe it’s time for some TC to move to FA or Yaks and even the score.

The question has >never< been whether or not we can survive almost anything. That was never part of the argument, no one ever doubted that. People seem to completely misunderstand the actual argument about Mesmers being bad in PvE and this is why these arguments go no where, people don’t take the time to actually read what is being said and understand it before they just start replying away and stroking their kitten.

The problem is that we have no instant AoE damage that can tag mobs in packed events where they are going down in one second, and that we take much longer to kill mobs than other classes in exchange for survivability. Survivability is great, but we’re at a severe disadvantage when other classes can drop mobs at severely faster speeds with far less effort.

Firstly you need to read exactly what i was replaying to if infact your talking to me. Secondly to “tag mobs” in group events, and only when in large groups, switch to GS press 4 half a second later as zerker has just finished running through press f1. If you try and mirror blade (skill2) at any point it will make the combo too late. Just skill 4 +f1 is tons of damage you don’t need 3 clones to shatter… Next wave comes, switch to sword jump in and mirror blade then f2 as mirror is going off, rinse and repeat. You might miss 1 in 4 ish waves if they come fast, but no class can max burst and tag every wave without fail in large groups.

I would LOVE to see a video of a Mesmer taking a +10 level Champion solo. Mostly I would love to see the technique used. My illusion usually get smashed in 1 shot before they are of use to either provide distraction or shatter.

I’m only level 55 and I’ve been building up
Duelist, Chaos and illusions as my spec because they fit my character RP design.

I use staff after realizing the buff it offers my wifes warrior with Tactics:10 with the Empowered Trait(+Power per unique boon). So it was fire.dot, burn.dot + vulnerability + boost ally. yeah I thought that was pretty sweet. Purchased extra bounce(required for staff) to faster stack everything. Staff turned out to be pretty bad kitten

I continued to use a GS mostly for second support that the berzerker does a cripple and GS2 for bounce. But I’ve been thinking the torch for the invis to lose agro and it’s aoe on appear

Greatsword is the way to solo champions. The cripple keeps them away from you indefinitely.

If they have ranged attacks things get more complicated. Maybe you could run an illusion spamming build but I don’t know if that would keep you alive either.

soloed the champion inquest golem (the one with the 16k rapid-fire ranged attack) by using scepter/sword sword/focus pair for the invulnerabilities and projectile reflects. That thing spent most of its time behind feedbacks or being blocked.

That is not the issue though. The issue for mesmers is many targets. Their clones get killed before they reach 3 to shatter and this leaves them up the creek because they have no other real source of burst aoe and with that many separate foes, no distractions.

If your having problems with many targets with a mesmer its YOUR build, not the class. To do lots of aoe you must have 30 in illusion and have illusionary persona on also 20 in dueling with deceptive evasion and finally staff>sword/torch. Torch is the only off hand that does any aoe dmg. as utility take decoy, nulfield and signet of inspiration. The aoe is out of control, with 3x chaos armor, chaos storm, prestige, blurred frenzy and 11 second cd mind wrack/ 22 sec cd cry.

You don’t need 3 clones to shatter, with illusionary persona you don’t even need a single clones for 1 shatter work just you to be close to the target. Just 1 clone out you got 2 mind wracks every 11 seconds + 2 stacks of aoe confusion, if you get in trouble you’ve got 2-3 maybe 4 invis skills to wait for your heal, skills and shatters to come off cd.

Seriously think about it with the above build you have perma vigor on crits = HEAPS of dodge = heaps of evade and clones. Then perma confusion on npc’s with perma retaliation on you with almost every boon in the game stacking on you on top of that + invis and all the damage from bouncing staff, chaos storm blah blah on and on it goes…. Again the problem is you.

I never said I couldn’t take on mobs, like I said I have no problems surviving. It just takes much longer to kill them compared to… say a bomb kit engineer.

Its relevant because its is a clear example of how much stronger staff is over GS in almost every situation PvE or not…… And in reference to champions that someone else mentioned, I’ve soloed many champions in orr (veterans are lol) it takes a long time but other than that its easy.

Mesmer has great survivability, which also means you can easily solo Vets. But that’s a far as it goes… for everything else in PvE mesmer is actually quite bad. Just doesn’t have the damage.

The larger the number of targets you face, the more fragile you become as a mesmer.

Pretty much everyone else is very strong against a swarm of low hp targets.

This same swarm is mesmer cryptonite.

they kill your clones as they spawn so you never reach 3, and you never have a distraction, so you’re taking full aggro and full damage. (and getting a nice stack of conditions that eat your low toughness builds for breakfast)

This dynamic is also why mesmers suck so horribly at DE’s and are hit or miss in dungeons depending on the encounter (good luck getting shatters on graveling swarms, for instance).

The devs design the game around a one-size-fits-all philosophy as to what damage people can dish out, but because our clones can die so quickly and our AOE depends on getting 3 up, our aoe falls off at precisely the time when we need it most.

I can’t believe how clueless people are… I’ts simple guys GS is pure trash unless your in a large group. The staff destroys in PvE and PvP. Chaos armor wrecks other GS mesmers 1v1 and all melee/most ranged classes, and lets you take on 4-5+ npc’s of equal-ish level at the same time solo. Even if your build is all staff orientated just switch it for a GS and change a trait or 2 if your in a large group and you’ll “tag mobs” no problem, the rest of the time rock the staff. 0-20-20-0-30 FTW.

I 100% agree with you about the support part. Its very possible to be support orientated while doing condition damage since it only requires 1 stat. They just introduced an armor type with healing power and coni dmg. Yet anyone who goes this will never get drops off mobs or people (in PvP) while in a group because their % of damage will be super low. Anyone spec’d in power precision and crit % in certain situations will die more but overall they will get WAY more drops and gold.

To OP: I only read the first page of this thread if im repeating something im sorry to everyone. This game from the beginning has had an element of what i call PsP or Play Style Punishment. I’ve never played dungeons and have no intention to, but in PvE loots been scaled since day 1. After 30 min to an hour your loot drops to just grey items. This means that people who play daily for that length of time are at a huge advantage. If someone wants to play all day for 2 days a week they are massively disadvantaged. There’s ways around this like having multiple lvl 80 characters doing an hour on each then crafting for another hour with what you collected to sell on the post…

I like to play PvE for a few months to learn the game then off to wvw and pvp i go. With this new patch they have punished EVERYONE except those small minded people who like grinding dungeons, and im guessing gears scaled there to (correct me if im wrong). GG.

They spent ages selling the game on the basis gear progression would be cosmetic only, that people would be able to attain the top level of gear (exotic – stat wise) in a number of ways (dungeosn, WvW, crafting, karma, AH), so were free to play how they want and the game was non-grind. (read their worthless manifesto)

A mere 3 months in to the game they did a complete u-turn and have introduced a new tier of gear above exotics and decided to make legnedary gear have better stats also, the new tier is only available by grinding thier kitteny dungeons, they will of course introduce more gear else it would be pointless to introduce just this batch.

So quite rightly many people who bought the game on the actual basis it was sold to them, not wanting another kitteny WoW/EQ clone are not happy at being lied to.

They have gone from being an MMO that was tying to things differnently to just another crappy WoW/EQ clone, apparently the general failure of these clones to keep players and pull people away from WoW hasn’t put them off, much like the concept of integrity.

This guy said it perfectly.

Thanks heaps for the info, I only have 100% on a few maps lvl 70-80 ones mainly and didn’t get any, I just got to lvl 80 asap and didn’t look back so to speak, I’m not interested in legendary weapons just max stats so i didn’t bother…. Well this patch ruined all that, anyway looks like i might need to go back to PvE land for a while or stop playing…:) thanks again.

That’s pretty much how it’s always been in GW2, and GW1 for that matter as well.
You play through PvE to unlock/obtain the armor and weapons to use in PvP.

No sir you are wrong, guild wars 1 was nothing like that. I had one lvl 20 character in GW1 who was not maxed out at all i could unlock skills and items using points i gained in pvp. After a while i could within minutes roll any class with max gear and be on a even playing field in ANY form of pvp. In GW2 this is only possible in sPvP. Before this patch exotics gave a nice even and achievable PvE goal and max gear could be obtained a number of different ways depending on what you like to do. For the time being at least wvw and max gear seems to be handed to the 0 skill dungeon grinding PvE nubs who think killing npc’s with 50000000000 hp is fun.

Anet please please can you answer whether the triforge pendant will be upgraded or stay the same. The new rings seem to have similar/same stats and are easier to get? I’ve just spent 2+ weeks farming for this to get any edge i can and now you release this silly patch which seems to make them worthless… Please its not fair can you give some answer as to whats going to happen to items like this and whether they will remain the same or be upgraded.

I`m excited about it. I`m glad they are doing it. The game needed a shot in the arm for people who like to hunt for gear. I`m also sure it won`t nearly be as bad as everyone thinks either. I`m pretty sure the path to getting these items is going to fun. Will be no different then running other dungeons for tokens for items or skins you want. They are starting it out slow so people can get used to the idea and have a chance to at least give it a try. But judging from the current dungeons, it`s not going to be insanely hard to get your new gear. Once people figure out the dungeons, it will be just as easy as clearing ac when you know the tricks and what to expect.

I myself don`t see how so many people could be content with using the same equipment they got within the first few months of release for the length of their lifespan with the game. Sooner or later they would have to add a way to upgrade equipment or add in more. It just came sooner rather then later. I don`t think it`s a bad thing though considering how easy it is to get current exotics or dungeon equipment.

lol you my friend are a wow player who think killing npc’s with 500000000000 hp or pressing space bar and forward in jumping kitten is fun…. enjoy.

I dunno really. GW2 did many things right as far as a proper sequel goes. It’s about what one should expect for an open world version of GW1. Apart from that I’d like the following:
- Personal storyline for the 3 traditional campaigns
- sPVP has to become more like RA/HA and less like AB. Remove objective capping, it’s what killed HA too. I really miss RA. Implement the old maps with new combat => done

Yeah i miss RA too, siege weapons and points in spvp is kitten why can’t we just kill each other fair and square, without all this random BS.

I couldn’t even go back and finish War in Kryta after playing the GW2 BWE. Combat is too slow, and tab + space bar too prevalent (at least for PvE).

For me the GW PvP was a lot better than GW2 PvP (I’m thinking HA and GvG); but the PvE in GW2 is way better than GW.

Yep the PvE is WAY better, but the PvP in GW1 was rocking. The team arena’s was more fun as was HA. The sPvP here is too random and hectic, less skill and downed don’t even get me started. The degen/regen was way cooler. Bring back the HEX, i want proper diversion thankyou! You can’t interupt or shutdown like you could in gw1, its just not the same.

I’ve been playing wvw 4-5 days a week since launch on TC a few hours a day (mainly solo or small group roaming). Out of all the match’s CD has by far the highest alt-F4 players I’ve seen. Tonight i thought I’d keep a tally, in 3 hours 10 alt F4’s. I’d be lucky to see 10 all week against other servers. They complain about being out numbered on this thread from time to time yet thats exactly the way they slamed us a month or so ago when they were FOTM. No respect for CD. Yaks however is cool.

Alt-F4 just became popular recently, and you just started playing matches against CD recently, coincidence? No, logic is your friend. I know everyone likes to jump on the CD hate bandwagon, but I can make the exact same observation. TC and YB both have tons of people Alt-F4ing and I’ve never encountered this many in the past. Also, I’ve received plenty of dirty messages from both TC and YB while killing your folks in the JP, so the people who like to say that CD is the only one with rude players are just flat out wrong. I have never messaged anyone insults after they have killed me, and I’ve been CD since beta.

What i said is simple dude, here ill break it down for you, CD alt f4 far more often than Yaks. You don’t notice this because your on CD.

You can use transmutation stones, to mix the looks to your preference, so what’s your point?

I don’t know man i never tried it but all the trasmutation stones I’ve ever picked up are basic ie up to level 79. I can buy the master ones for a heap of gold from the gem store, doesn’t seem worth it. And don’t i need both bits of armor in my inventory? Again this means i’d need to grind the armor look i want in dungeons??? Correct me if im wrong. But if i’m right your not helping…

Hi, I have 2 lvl 80 characters (guardian and mesmer) with 4 crafting professions at 400 between them. I’m mainly into spvp and wvw. Sometimes I jump into PvE to help out friends who are leveling or to do a cursed sure run but I’m really over PvE and loving PvP and WvW.

I stopped playing my guardian because the exotic crafted gear makes him look like an s/m bondage weirdo (the lvl 45ish armor looked so cool). The only way to get cool looking stuff is to grind dungeons which i hate. So i just play my mesmer since at least the crafted exotic armor looks ok for light.

You’ve given us so many options for max stats weapons like crafted, bought on the trading post, mystic weapons, drops, legendary, dungeons etc…. Why is cool armor only available from dungeons or super overprices cultural? Its so frustrating i don’t want to grind NPC’s or do stupid jumping puzzels. I just want to play against other people. Why am i penalized for that??? And now with this patch again its just dungeon focused. And soon in wvw im going to be disadvantaged.

I spent so much time in PvE farming up the materials and leveling my crafting to get full exotic items, why isn’t there a way for me to use that to get this new teir of items?

Meh. All servers have people that alt-F4’s. I’ve met my fair share from both TC and YB. Best thing to do is just think positive. By logging out, that means the enemy has one less player for a while. And since when was CD flavor of the month? We started out a tier 2/2.5 server and since then the only transfers that happened were ones going out.

Yeah right on, it doesn’t bother me, just an observation. No matter what anyone says I stand by what I said, CD has the most alt-F4 I’ve seen since launch this week at least. You guys smashed us a month or two ago because of numbers and if your in the top 2 teirs and drop to teir 4 after this week that for me is FOTM. Here is an example:

I had an epic 1v1 against a CD thief tonight, Seems that thieves just copy builds off the net since tonight I’ve seen 2-3 using the same build I’ve not seen before. Some trap on the ground with cripple and bleeding that stacks the longer you stand in it and the Thief Illusions they can sommon, they have heaps of condtion removal. Anyway after 4+ minutes of 1v1 i get him, I thought he was just invis and downed, after a 30 sec’s no one appeared on the ground downed. NO skill NO honour just ALT-F4. welcome to CD.

Perma-Stealth During Combat Thief Glitching

As a mesmer if your “in combat” and have the deceptive evasion trait you can create clones without having a target selected. These clones attack the nearest thing to them including thieves in their 2-3 second window of not being rendered, which gives you an idea of their position and where to aoe. Its doesn’t really help in big fights but 1v1 or like in the video it makes it easy to find them…
