I’m starting to craft a set of Ascended armor for my warrior soon. My question is, should I still go for a PVT set in order to be able to fill a few different roles in PvE and PvP?

Because there is no chance in hell I’m going to grind more than one set.

If you had to choose just one set of armor for your warrior and stick with that for life, what would it be?

Sorry to break it to you, but Soldier’s was never the Go-To Set.

It would be extremely over powered, just spam air and fire attunement swaps for dps because of sunspot and lightning strike.

Get a party with a guardian that’s running Strength in Numbers along with Battle Presence and Absolute Resolution. Make sure an elementalist is in that group who stays in Water attunement a lot and has Soothing Mist heal for at least 1k and get some other poor soul to Hold your Banner of Tactics for regen to the whole group.

Try running the sparks with the same tactic as shown in both POVs of the video, that should solve your problem. (Only use 2 people to run them btw, it’s easier)

Axe/Sword could be interesting.

Mainhand sword isn’t viable for PvE purposes, however offhand sword is superior to shield in situations such as fighting lupicus. If your party is maxed on vuln stacking it is ok to run offhand sword for impale/rip combo which can pull some pretty hefty numbers.

Please specify if you’re talking about PvP or PvE, dagger is however viable for both scenarios. It has incredible burst and mobility.

OP, first off, this is a game. Do what you enjoy most. Secondly, here is some advice from a fellow thief who is always looking to dish out the highest dps possible.

I run S/P and P/P. The first set is pretty standard. S/P brings the damage while retaining lots of evasion for great self-sustainability. Pistol Whip is your bread and butter damage. On fights where you know the boss has a certain pattern, it’s not a bad idea to pace your pistol whips to evade that specific attack and to save initiative for that specific reason. Head Shot is a very under appreciated skill, too. I’ve stopped so many crazy abilities that mobs do through the proper use of that skill, and I think it adds so much depth to combat. Learning when and where to use Head Shot for specific mobs just adds to the challenge. Remember; Pistol Whip stuns, so it trumps Head Shot, but only if you’re in melee range or can get it off in time. Head Shot has a 900 range, and is near instant in cast time, making it extremely valuable when you can’t be all up in a mob’s grill.

As for P/P? Remember how I said this is a game, and you should have fun? This is my way of having fun. I really enjoy the feel of the weapon set, and since my character has a Wild West sort of vibe to him, it feels very fitting. Regardless, I know and understand that, for the most part, shortbow is a all around more useful utility weapon. But honestly? I don’t care. I attempt to make up for not having a shortbow by learning when and where is best to use my pistol. Low on health? Get out, unload with signet of malice on, and wait for my health to recover before going back in for another melee skirmish. I also put great emphasis on timing my Head Shots to stop mobs from wrecking teammates.

All in all, it is completely viable to go full zerker. I use your exact trait build, and it just calls for a very aware play style to pull off since you’re so squishy. Most importantly out of all of this, though, remember to have fun. Otherwise, this is probably not worth your time.

Im fine with you “playing how you want”, its when you say what you’re doing is the best. If you really want headshot bring dagger/pistol for offhand, its quite superior to p/p unless you can’t handle melee without s/p, that is.

Nope, I play full zerk at lvl 49.

Just learn to dodge and use your utiltiies. Don’t use melee weapons, you’re not designed to fight anything long term with them since everything 1-shots you. I hardly ever die unless I make a mistake.

Use p/p and s/b instead of a melee weapon. 8k unloads (10-12k with buffs via banner and might)

You should probably delete your thief if you can’t use it to its full potential, that being a top tier dps class.

It ends with axe winning due to the fact that with the 30/25/0/0/15 build with perception stacks you cap at crit chance so there no “praying to the gods for a final crit” there is a reason why sword MH ISN’T the meta as much as I enjoy using sword, as of current it will never be the burst damage weapon of choice. Also the gap closer? It is only useful with trash runs and as for CC axe also has a cripple, surely it isn’t on the AA but you also have bladetrail which is a double multi target cripple. Your move sir.

Guard is #4 and Warrior is roughly tied with necro at #5 actually. Also note that there’ a big jump between #4 (guardian) and #3 (thief) and a big jump from there to #2 (mesmer) and another big jump to #1. So in reality the DPS scale looks more like:

Elementalist >> Mesmer >> Thief >>>>> Guardian > Warrior,Necro,Ranger,Engineer

That’s in terms of ideal max DPS though. In terms of stable DPS warrior actually tops guardian by a fair bit, and solo/open-world burst DPS is a whole different matter entirely.

Sorry i may have to disagree, mesmer certainly does not have higher dps than thief (perhaps if it’s a high reflect situation like lupicus, than yes). Also, I’d say thief and ele are more closely tied (depending on ele build) but thief may till take the cake for #1 dps when there is no FGS.

The only time a guardian does more dps than a warrior is when the guardian has the party buffs coming from the warrior, banners etc.

I find it funny how everyone against path selling immediately jumps to the conclusion that we exploit every path we sell. For some this isn’t the case. I sell paths simply because i enjoy the challenge of low-manning/soloing the dungeon. I ALWAYS fight lupicus because it’s a fun boss and I enjoy the practice. Alphard is also easily solo-able, youtube Luca rT and you can see a 5 minute warrior alphard solo. So how about instead of crying on the forums about people selling dungeons ( which by your standpoints makes it seem like the majority of you do not have the ability to complete the task) every day, get better and join the forces.

On medium settings (auto detect but turn off reflections, can leave shadows on if you want,) you should get around pretty darn good FPS. Maybe 60 fps in a lot of places excluding wvw.

You don’t mention a video card. Also since we don’t know what you had previously we have no basis of how much better this new system is relative to the old.

That said your current system is a dual core with HT but 4GB may be an issue depending what else you are running at the same time. However the SSD will noticeably reduce loading times.

Again without any info on if you are using the integrated Intel HD Graphics 4400 (which will swipe part of your 4GB of system memory) or a discrete video card and what you were running before, it’s tough to give you an educated guess.

Also what OS are you using? 32 or 64 bit version?

I’m running windows 7 64bit. Yes I am also running Intel HD graphics 4400.

I average around 60kb/s and someitmes it will drop to 0 for like a minute, after that if it doesn’t continue I will just close the client and re open it then it generally fixes the problem.

Hello, before christmas my computer was basically yhe technological equivalent to a turnip. I have recieved an upgrade and am wondering if anyone can give me an estimation on how many FPS (average) I will be running.
CPU: Core i3-4130 (Haswell) 3.4Ghz
Motherboard: ASUS H81M-A
4gb Ram
250g Samsung SSD 840 EVO 6gb/s

Before I was averaging around 20 fps (lowest graphic settings don’t make fun of me) and I’m really hoping this will help somewhat, I would really enjoy the game again if it looked pretty.

Any sort of estimation of whta my new frame rate will be would be very appreciated! I can’t see them now due to the fact that I am currently doing the updates because I had to re-install the game. Thank you.

It depends on the build of the elementalist. Personally, I prefer elementalist over ranger simply because i enjoy the conjure mechanic as well as the high damage, fury, and might I can provide to the party. Spotter and frost spirit, however are very good for a party DPS boost. Ranger sword main hand can be difficult to control at times, though. Also, you will not be able to attack from max melee on a sword ranger due to the leaping AA.

Mace main hand is in no way viable for PvE, as for offhand axe it is purely situational and only useful for the 4 skill, the 5 should be thrown in the dumpster.

I’m wondering why you’d want to use your adrenaline which gives an extra 15% damages (with the trait) to immobilize when you could bolas or longbow instead.

It’s still solo-able on a warrior, just more difficult. By difficult I mean you cant AFK all the bosses anymore.

Thief is awesome, really really strong, but both heavy classes bring so much more team utilty and about as much damage as thief (1k-3k difference without boons)

your joking right? a thief can easily double a warriors damage on single targets

I wouldn’t go that far, but yeah Thief single target deeps is pretty kitten good. People just don’t notice it as much because on Warrior it’s more or less just mash 1 to deal optimal damage, whereas on Thief more of the damage comes from landing backstabs and Heartseekers.
So really it’s much more reasonable to expect a PuG to be able to mash 1, and therefore a much safer bet to take a PuG Warr over a Thief.

At least when a pug thief is in the party you know they can’t run a shout heal build like a pug warrior will most likely be using.
