I wouldn’t be surprised to see a little extra cinematic at the end of today’s patch, the same as we saw with Season 2. I believe, however, that it’s going to be fairly vague. The one we had last time was just that… we saw the pact ships fly over the jungle and get swatted down by vines. It was a setup, but more of a teaser than a trailer. The name of the expansion wasn’t even included at the time iirc. It wasn’t until about a week later (I think? It’s been a while haha) that we actually had the conference with the announcement of the name and an actual trailer for the expansion.

It’s really good to know that I should definitely be watching my crit chance to be at least 60% which really makes perfect sense when I hear it. Considering that I am focusing mostly on getting into team content of high end fractals and raids, that’s a good bit of info to keep in mind.

I’m thinking that I will at least try Marauders Armour for now, then. I am already running exotic zerk gear on everything and have no issues with dungeons or open world but, as you say, things just tend to melt anyway.

I hope I won’t have a lot of issues with getting into groups using at least some of the Marauders stuff but it’s better that I do that and try to stay alive a little longer to learn the mechanics than to lay there dead in full zerk right off the bat. (At least for fractals, anyway. It seems raids are much less forgiving where you dodge or you die haha)

As far as I understand elite specializations were designed with full intention of making them better than core specializaions. Hence the Elite part of the name. I think we’re supposed to feel better about having elite specs once we actually have a few to choose from for each profession. You’re right that it feels really odd and imbalanced right now, though. I look forward to having more options.

Very interesting observations you were able to make. I wonder if they really are just limited to putting the orders up for items in low quantity. I thought it was a little funny how sometimes I would see items sometimes priced ridiculously high on the tp. I wonder if there is just some way to recover the gold using the cancel option if needed? No idea. I haven’t the slightest clue how this would all work and that’s despite playing 4 years of spreadsheets in space (aka EVE Online haha).

Most of my underwater experience has felt sluggish and I haven’t felt the kind of diversity and functionality in my skills as I do on land. And yes, content underwater is seriously lacking.

I don’t like fighting underwater right now. I would be in favour of a rework in that department. I do enjoy exploring underwater, though. Exploring the few puzzles, quaggan villages, secret holes and iconic areas (DF and old L.A for example) has been a highlight for me. I recall a ship in Orr that I explored years ago for an achievement that felt extremely disorienting as it was all lopsided reminding me a bit of the feeling I had the first time I went to Nolani Academy in GW1. And I still remember the first time I saw a whale under water. I was in awe.

Underwater content and the ability to swim was one of the things that I looked forward to before release. I’ve spent so many hours in LA in GW1 sitting on the steps of the beach and musing at the strange creature that swam near shore, wondering what other crazy things we would find in the water. And how special it was to find these little secret areas where your character could go into the water where it was over their head.

Maybe I’m a bit too easily amused by the underwater environment. But I thought I would just throw in my 2 cents to say that I would be all for some TLC to under water content.

I was writhing around on the ground in Bitterfrost Frontier’s cave full of vets and pain on my squishy elementalist kitty when a shadow passed me by, grabbed all of the unbound magic and continued on without a care. I cannot overstate my rage and envy. My only solution until this effect is implemented is to play a ghost thief myself. Even if I can’t kill anything, as long as I can tag champs and move on again… that’s all I want in life. Well, maybe that and a single precursor drop but first thing’s first.

Totally have the fairy wand on my meaner also hahaha! I went along with the whole flashy purple and brightness theme for my meaner as well.

Odd enough, I actually want it for my thief. I recently made The Bifrost and I play staff daredevil most lately. I’ve got lighter armour to match with Celestial and electro pink dyes. It matches the Wings of Love glider well and would like to use it as a back item, too!

I’ve recently fallen in love with playing my thief. It’s the last profession that I’ve started playing regularly and learning it well and have been having a lot of fun to the point hat I think I want to make it my new dungeon/fractal/raiding character but I have a question about some builds.

I understand from the builds online that if I want to go for a staff build (which I have the most fun with), I should load up on zerk gear. I’m wondering if I could get away with using ascended marauder gear, though. I get that I won’t be min/maxing at that point but I’m thinking a lot about functionality as well as the fun I can have with it. I’d probably have a much more comfortable time learning raids and continuing to get used to my thief if I can have a little forgiveness in my build with the extra vitality (until now, I’ve used exotic zerk gear).

What do you guys think? Am I going to end up somewhat crippled if I use ascended marauder’s for now? Would it be even worse than exotic zerk? I’m wanting to ask because I won’t have enough mats right now to make both ascended sets. I appreciate any help or opinions you can give to help me out!

That’s cool to hear that I’m not alone in wanting the backpack also. I haven’t heard anything about plans to make it into a back item at release or recently. My best assumption was that it would have to be at least partially remade because of the sound and heart effects that come off of it but… wouldn’t it just be possible to use the Wings of Love skin over the same item as the hawk, macaw or golden wings?

I wouldn’t be too surprised to see it release as a back item maybe next valentines day. That seems a long time to wait for it but I guess there isn’t much point in releasing anything to do with the Wings of Love item outside of Valentines.

Do you guys think a backpack skin for Wings of Love would be a good idea? I would be curious to know if there might ever be a plan to make the Wings of Love glider into a backpack also.

I’ve noticed that the hawk, macaw, golden, black feather and white feather wings are all gliders and backpacks but the Wings of Love are a glider only. Do you think this is because, unlike the others, the Wings of Love glider has special effects and noises associated with it?

Perhaps it’s just so low in priority right now that it’s not worth the time. I haven’t been able to find any threads for this using the search function so maybe there is no demand, either. What do you think?

Yeah exactly! It would be great to pick up an entire pack of the golem stuff. I think it would be a good hit with people. I would have even bought the pack including the golem tools at the time although my character now has all of those. At least they are account bound now.

And those are great quotes, eduardo haha. It could be done just fine since there are ones for just normal jumping also that aren’t just spammed all over. And Glide-r-tron… that’s it right there. xDD

Haha, exactly! I see a fair number of people running around with the little golem backpack also. Imagine they wouldn’t mind so much if it would also be used as a glider. Maybe some day as a gem store present hehe!

I’ve had a ton of things to do since the release of HoT especially with Masteries. Today was finally my engineers turn to get some special treatment with Mastery training.

I have him all decorated with golem things especially since he is an Asura and I find it to be aesthetically pleasing for him to run about with the golem backpack and harvesting tools.

A moment of enjoying gliding around Divinity’s Reach reminded me that I had yet to choose a glider skin for him.

It just came into my head that perhaps it would be awesome to have a golem-themed glider skin, also! Perhaps a little golem on your back with a propeller or something. That would be so fun!

I know, I know. There is more important things.

These are all good points, I suppose. I would be surprised to hear of people being completely done with the maps and not wanting to return already. I’ve been having some fun but then I am only at 21 mastery points and have a long way to go to finish everything off. I am just working on completing all of my achievements for each map one at a time for now.

I honestly have not tried the LFG tool yet. That is a very good idea for finding maps. I suppose later maps like Silverwastes would also feel pretty barren but then if you use the LFG tool to find active ones, you can keep up a pretty constant farm.

Thank you both for your replies. I will try to use the LFG tool some more. It’s just a shame that the volunteer system doesn’t really work at all. What a terrible system that is. Even if I do ignore it, I see a lot of other people in my current map will vanish and that will pretty much be the end of any progress that has been made on the meta’s.

As for the later maps that don’t seem to have anyone in them at a regular basis anyway, I suppose I can always keep an eye out for organized runs by Teq Squad and such. Maybe it will be a little better when a large number of people get time to explore and learn these maps. I know it took me a good week to even learn all of Verdant Brink and all of it’s associated events and that is a pretty simple map in comparison.

Since the release of Heart of Thorns I have noticed something that I am thinking is not really a coincidence.

I’ve been in some pretty sparse maps and I get the volunteer window pop up a lot to switch to a more populated map. But when I say “a lot” I mean very very frequently. It was not uncommon to see this window pop up at the end of a meta event in base Tyria with the occasional more random pop-up but these happen all the time in the new maps.

Okay, well I will take the offer on the off chance I get moved to a map with an organized team doing the meta in Auric Basin or something. But I have not once been moved to a map that has made any more progress than the one I just left and very often it is less than the one I just left and it feels very barren.

I tossed this off for a very long time and just bad luck but the frequency of the pop-ups is very high and the number of times it has just put me on a map that feels equally barren accounts for 100% of my voluntary moves so far.

Is this really a problem or is my luck somehow that miserable? I have only see one barely successful octovine thus far… absolutely nothing for the Chak event which is a little frustrating in itself.

I am on the forums looking for any recent issues with latency in GW2. I, personally, have not experienced this issue but my friend has.

A few days ago we had finally decided to shell out the cash and swap from American servers to European servers. Since the swap, I have not had any issues at all but he has, for some reason, been experiencing an incredible lag that has never been a problem with GW2 before. (Oh, I am in Norway and he is in Belgium).

He has checked his connection through and through for any issues and can’t seem to find any. It’s only GW2 he is having this problem with and it seems to have been only after the server swap.

Before we dish out an insane number of gems again for a switch because a European is having lag on Euro servers (:s), we’re looking to see if it is another issue that might be resolved at some point.

D/C’s aren’t so much the issue as just high latency almost constantly. In and out of combat, anywhere in the world map.

I have been having the same issue. Submitting my email address and not receiving any confirmation emails. (The same address as I use for GW2).

I’ve been wondering if it’s because I’m already subscribed but I have not been receiving newsletters for GW2 on that account, either. I rely on visiting the website to get news for GW2. I did, however, manage to subscribe using an alternate email.

I have applied through your website but I didn’t really get a chance to see if it would be alright to join the guild.

I’ve been playing GW2 since release but most of my friends who I gamed with have left to play other things. I am looking for a new guild that has a good community where I can just hop in with a party or even make some new friends to do things with.

I’m mostly focused on PvE and would love to participate in things like guild events and dungeon running (Dungeon Master is pretty high on my to-do list) but also don’t mind doing casual things like mapping, leveling, story lines, or searching under rocks for those elusive fossilized insects.

Although I don’t mind dipping my toes into WvW on occasion, I am a member of Sea of Sorrows along with a couple of other close friends who still come online once in a while. Another server switch wouldn’t be out of the question but it would be nice to find a solid guild before shelling out the gems, if that is alright with you. I certainly wouldn’t mind playing some more WvW especially as a small or well-commanded group. (I’m really not a fan of the flash-mob zerg).

Your guild sounds very close to the kind of community and activity I would love to be part of and would appreciate the opportunity to be part of [ARES]. I hope to hear from you soon, and thanks!

It doesn’t need a nerf. We just need the time to learn how to play it. You may not know, but Tequatl is a DRAGON BOSS, a Zhaitan’s Lieutenant, it need to be that difficult, and people need to learn how to fight him without crying, please.

Zhaitan was a lot easier than this. PLOT TWIST! Tequatl is actually the elder dragon.

I don’t see why Anet can’t use one of their MANY currencies in the game to acquire the Fused skins instead of continuing to rely on 0.1% drop rates. You know, the ones that require people to cooperate in groups or spend time playing the game to earn? Not that I have a problem putting money into the Gem Store to help support the game but when you’re opening hundreds of chests and hundreds of dollars are going towards buying keys and you still have the unfortunate ones that don’t get a skin, it’s very disappointing. Would a weapon skin in return be a crime?

I think selling the tokens/skins straight out would be a little too direct. On the plus side, people would probably buy quite a few of them to spread over their characters or have sets. On the down side, people would probably buy quite a few of them. They would probably get pretty old pretty fast if it was too easy to acquire. I’m just thinking of stuff like CoF armour which people tend to avoid like the plague because every second character you see is running around with it because of easy access. (Yup, I’m guilty, too.)

Perhaps we could just fix the drop rates a bit. By the time someone throws $100 or more into the game for keys, is the skin really worth it anymore? Okay, you get other stuff from the chests, too. The Mysterious Tonics and Instant Repair Canisters are flowing. Even that isn’t quite worth it, really. Why can’t I just throw a dozen unlocked chests at the NPC and we can call it a deal? Why can’t the chests have fragments tucked down in the bottom of them that Zommors could magically whip into a shiny, new token for a skin? Something to put a cap on the spending.

Sure, in the end, it’s our decision to take our chances on the chests but sometimes it feels like an apple’s being dangled out over a canyon and people just shake their heads when you fall in trying to reach it. “Silly person, could have just stopped leaning out so far!” MEDIC!

This is how I play my games. I generally don’t compare my ability to DPS an ogre to death with my RL but s’cool. I’m just looking at ROI. There’s a point where I’ve invested so much time and practice to try and finish this that it seems silly to quit without getting anything out of it. It ends up as kind of a vicious cycle that you feel in pay to play games as well. I wouldn’t mind spending the time, finishing the puzzle and getting the achievement. I’m just lacking a bit on the last two.

For sure. I really wanted to get my achievement to satisfy my OCD. The puzzle and the final party are all that is stopping me. And don’t get me wrong, I love challenging things. I’ve found a few of them and 40, 50, thousands of hours playing is awesome. But, to get this achievement, I have to finish it before Nov 1st. The rest I can do whenever.

I personally love the jump puzzles. I’ll often bother my friend to just go exploring for jumping puzzles with me around the world for a days fun. I’m not very good at them, but it’s something different and challenging in another way other than combat.

Only thing I don’t like about this jump puzzle is it’s really not friendly with my PC setup. I use a desk built for a laptop and I literally have 3 cm’s of space left to right before my mouse falls off the desk. I have to play games with 2000 or 2800 dpi or I can’t move well in them. This does not bode well for puzzles requiring me to move in the same direction a lot without enough of a break to reposition my mouse.

TL;DR – The puzzle was fun for the first 10 hours but I just clocked in 40.5 hours total over the last 5 days and I still haven’t finished the puzzle once. Fun now at 0%.

I agree that would help and, in fact, was the very thing that I did for the first game. I used a closed email account that I never used for anything else to log in to GW but now that the email I use in GW2 is going to be active (authenticating, news, etc.) I need to use an email that I can access. Sure, it takes nothing to create an extra email account although I already have an extra account just for email security. It’s getting a little crazy having to create more and more alternate emails for everything. I’d be lost without writing them all down in a notebook.

Certainly using an alternate username/email is good for security, I’m just thinking it would be a lot easier if it was given as an option on Anet’s side like EVE Online does, for example.

I know there USED to be phone support as I’ve used it before to recover an account and they were very helpful and the issue was resolved. This was a long time ago during the first game, though. Since then, I haven’t found any phone support and guess it no longer exists. I’m glad to see there will eventually be an option for recovery and hopefully people who have had their accounts hacked since release will be able to use it. I’ve also had a number of friends with the same problem and it stinks to see them go. :/

Oh ok. So I am assuming that the email/account name option is going to be the same thing (just an email address). I can’t say that my email name is entirely secure as I still use it for registering or logging into other websites. With this, it is still safe to say that using email as a method for logging in isn’t entirely secure?

Keyloggers and screen captures aside… I’ve used multiple programs to check for this malware and turned up nothing… I’m assuming I’ve been compromised elsewhere. I’m wondering if my email is now on a kind of list for a hacker to try and if they will continue trying once the account is reopened. There was at least another post here on the forum of repeated suspensions that makes me think this is so. I was just wondering if the option to not use so common things like emails for log-in would help.

I had my first encounter with a suspension due to unauthorized log-in attempts today and although I’m confident that support will help me resolve the issue and get my account back, I’m wondering about future log-in attempts.

I use a unique password for each of my accounts and I believe that really saved me this time but these attempts seem to be horribly common even according to Mike O’Brien’s message about account security. He mentioned that they could see attempts using specific usernames with specific passwords in attempts trying to find a match where people have been reusing passwords.

I have to ask, wouldn’t it save a lot of headaches if GW2 used more unique account names? I was hopeful for this when creating my account here but everyone on the forums and in-game can see my account name. Even using emails which are hidden can be horrible for an alternate choice because emails are used all over the place. Like using a gmail account would link your email, youtube, guild wars and guild wars 2 accounts all together—at the least—especially if you have your two games linked to utilize the HoM bonuses.

I’d really recommend and like to see hidden and unique usernames for logging-in to the game. Just a thought/suggestion.

It seems that since the purchases were opened again for GW2, the amount of gold sellers I’m seeing has increased a lot. They’re in every city and all over the map especially in the starter areas and my mailbox has been getting bombarded.

So far, I haven’t talked to or responded to any of them but take two actions: I report them for scamming and then I block them to get it off the screen. It’s just impossible to keep up with the number of them and I’ve done a fair share of reporting lately. (Upwards of 6 reports per day)

My question is: is this something I should be doing? I faintly recall hearing that excessive reporting in GW could result in a ban and I sure don’t want that to happen in GW2! Is it worth it to report the sellers? Is it ok to do?

I was wondering the same thing and tried it between two characters wearing light armour (a necro and a mesmer). I placed the headpiece of my mesmer in the bank and switched to my necro but the transmutation is not possible from there. I was unable to take the soulbound item of another character from the bank into the inventory of another character. I also tried activating the transmutation stone then opening the bank and dragging the mesmer headpiece in and it just simply wouldn’t let me.

Although I haven’t tried this using someone else’s soulbound items, I would imagine that it applies to them all. The items you transmute either have to be soulbound to you or not soulbound at all.

As for getting a headpiece that looks like goggles later in the game, I’m not sure. The TP is down at the moment so I can’t check there although my guild mates say that you can craft rare medium monocles like the engineer starter ones using leatherworking. I certainly hope the look is available, though!
