So what I get from this, is if I really want -serious- WvW gear, buy the soldier’s insignias from the TP, then use it to make the Ahamid’s insignia, then use those to craft gear?
So I decided to get into some WvW and want to craft some Soldier’s gear for that purpose. The wiki says to salvage a piece of soldier’s gear to get the recipe for the insignia.
1.) Exactly how does that work? Does the recipe show up in your crafting menu automagically after you do the salvage operation?
2.) Do I have to trade honor to get a piece to salvage or can I buy a piece from the TP?
It should of been ONE set of weapons and armor that SCALED as you level from 18-79 – then maybe it would of been worth it. The current cost to craft is laughable, making it pretty much worthless to even think about.
agree. Other MMOs have gear like this that you have to grind for, but it stays account bound and scales. No selectable stats though.
They didnt mess up, you did.
They talked about this in the blog posts.
Those crafted armor and weapons as well as the backpacks are intended to veteran players (425 crafting proficiency) that level their alts. These items have higher stats thats comparable on level gear and they have selectable stats. I also think they stay account bound after use, so you can use them for more alts, if you wish, but i am not 100% sure about the account bound statement.https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/crafting/New-insignias-what-for/first#post4391581
I messed up making them, yes, but they messed up making them so that nobody would craft them. Besides, I spammed LA chat for hours letting people know how many ectos they took so that others would not be lured in. So to look on the bright side, my mess up led me to perform a community service ;-)
These are a win. They kind of balance out the enormously wasteful new insignias. These are an “attaboy” the insignias are an “aw $^&*”.
120 ecto’s for 6 pieces? what else in the crafting process takes ecto’s? The insignia take 5 each (so 30 ecto)… why are another 90 required? Unless you made 4 sets of gear…
the chest, legs, and helm take 20 ectos each, gloves, boots, and pauldrons 10 each. Like I said, I don’t feel particularly smart for doing this. It IS a HUGE waste of resources. Now that I’ve done it, and it looks like a couple others have, watch a-net go … woops we messed up. I just hope when they do I get a bunch of ectos showing up in my mailbag :-)

I just made a set of level 68 light armor for an alt with these. It took a lot of ectos. About 120 of them. That’s like 50 gold if you buy them from the trader. Then you have to use Gossamer items, and 30 piles of crystaline dust. I had the mats and wasn’t doing anything else with them, but I think that one set of armor would have set me back at least 65 gold total.
I did it. Doesn’t mean I feel particularly smart about it. I just did it to see, and now you know what the costs are. My opinion is that these are a lot of gold for not a lot of use. From 68 you can be to 80 in a short time using boosts and crafting discovery, and buy a whole set of Exotics from the trader for a lot less.
I don’t see a whole lot of people making these, unless they plan on rolling a whole bunch of characters that use the same armor type.
Try being new at the game. Asking questions on what to do gets you the boot. Apparently dungeons are only for players that have had the game since it’s release.
I now have 120 days into this game. I leveled 3 characters to 80, and equipped them all in exotic gear. I have a 4th almost done. Then I leveled their crafting all to 450.
It looks as though I have to start running dungeons to get the materials to craft ascended gear. Is this correct?
If yes, this is a big flaw in the game. I have never played a game where people are less helpful to new players in all the years I’ve been gaming. Running dungeons is a denigrating humiliating stressful exercise.
If you don’t need to run dungeons, that would be great. Please let me know how to get materials for ascended gear.
I just wanted to say thank you for healing me of my WoW addiction. I played on one of the original servers back in Vanilla, tried to quit after a year and a bit, couldn’t do it, and played 7 more years. I wish I had found this game sooner. A LOT sooner. It’s as if you searched the WoW forums for every complaint about that game, and then said … hey let’s not put any of that in our game. Let’s make it what WoW players wish WoW could be. So again, thank you for healing me of that addiction.
only problem now is I’m addicted to GW2. Oh well. It’s like I broke up with an abusive partner, ankitten ow dating a plump, less damaged, and happy version of Britney Spears.
yeah my bad. It’s a Mac Pro. 2009 model 8 core 2.26. Good to hear GW2 runs with a 2009 model single CPU, so mine with 2 ought to run as well. I ordered 2 3.0ghz quad core CPUs, and a GTX 680 for it. I have a Win 7 license from a laptop that met an ugly death, so I’m good there. It came with 2 sticks of 4GB RAM, and there are 4 slots open. I plan on getting 4 more 4GB sticks. Even after all that I still won’t be up to what one of these things goes for on eBay. Like I said, it was an unbelievable price.
I always wanted one of these, but I’ve built my own PCs for years and couldn’t see blowing that much money on one. So far, even without the upgrades installed, it’s an amazing machine and everything I thought it would be. Once I get the upgrades installed it’s going to be even better. I can’t wait. Next weekend’s project will be to install the upgrades, Windows 7, and see what happens :-) Will report back.
edit: I’m currently using a home built PC – Asus mobo, 16GB RAM, 3.0ghz 6 core, GTX 650, 500gb SSD.
btw – should I get an SSD for this? It looks like it will handle one nicley.

I recently got an 8 core PowerMac for an unbelievable price. I plan on upgrading the CPUs and the GPU soon. I know there are people who run games like WoW in Bootcamp and it’s reportedly great. Anyone able to provide some experiential input?
But is it single use? Now when I try to apply the skin it says I must purchase gems to transmog. Is that normal?
And now I can’t “unlock skin” on any of them. What now? Are these single use things or something? They are all low level armor now.
The helm, shoulders and boots are. The rest have stats like actual armor
I just bought the game, and got the primeval skin for my Guardian. Now only the helm, shoulders and boots still work. The chest, legs, and gloves are gone somehow. I know I didn’t salvage them, and they’re not in my bags or bank. What happened to the missing pieces?
Now I’ve played it a few more hours, and it is SO MUCH BETTER that WoW. I thought I would miss my 11 lvl 90 toons, my Master of All Cheev, my “of the Horde” title, my mounts, and the massive pile of gold I had amassed … but I am going to log in one last time and give all that crap away in trade chat, and strongly encourage the member of my 1000 member PVP guild to come over here. This game’s PVP is OFF THE HOOK! I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!
I’ve been playing WoW since 2006. Blizz had cheesed me off a few more times than normal recently, so when the Curse Client had the Guildwars 2 advertisement in it, I clicked on it. Wasn’t real impressed with what I saw on the website at first, but then watched a few reviews on Youtube. Angry Joe’s review convinced me finally to drop the money and go for it.
So now I’ve been playing the game for a few days, done some PVP, and basically I feel like I quit a job at McDonalds and got hired on as a billionaire astronaut male model race car driver. I feel like I was going out with Lindsay Lohan’s personal assistant’s neice’s grandmother, but now I get to date Jessica Gomes. I feel like I was eating spam on store brand crackers with Faygo, and now I get to eat Filet Mignon with Champagne.
Thank you for setting me free. :-)
I just bought the game. Got a set of armor, but chose for the wrong profession. So I made another character that was the right profession for the armor. The armor says it’s account bound, but I cannot send it to the other character. I get the error:
You Cannot Send to Yourself
How do I send this account bound armor to the character that can use it?
I also get the same error if I try to send a test message from either character to the other.
