Leveling in GW2 used to be more fun than in any other MMO i played so far. It was a stupid decision to change the one thing they got absolutely right.
I’m enjoying my warrior very much. I can jump into the fray, knock my enemys off their feet, bash them with my shield and can take a lot of hits before i have to retreat (and shoot them with burning arrows while i catch my breath). I think ArenaNet hit the archetype of that class pretty well.
Thief is a lot of fun as well but not as fool proofed and a lot of support skills feel quite lackluster and not really impactful (traps, poisons).
Don’t have much experience with other classes. Guardians, Mesmers, Mages and Rangers seem interesting. Unsure about the Engineer. The Necro clearly lacks skeletons to turn me on…

Introducing a “Megaserver” in a realm vs realm game was probably the worst idea the Devs ever had. Adding a default language filter that prevents you from communicating with the players around you is probably the most ridiculous thing in video game history. The amount of fail in this recent patch is truly epic. If this game was paid by subscription I would have canceled mine for sure. Good thing it isn’t – gives ArenaNet time to revert their mistake.
A nerf of roughly 10% seems just right. An uninterruptable passive heal should not give more hps than our strongest active heal. There is really not much to debate about this.
Buffing the active is a good decision aswell. I hardly ever encountered a situation where the pitiful amount of heal was worth the sacrifice of the passsive regeneration. If that changes its clearly for the better.
Could you guys perhaps recommend a X/Shield and secondary weapon for PvE leveling and dungeons?
While leveling i suggest to use any weapon you feel like, regardless of you build. Once you get used to them and figure out which ones you like the most, you can start to think about a build focused on them.
I don’t think decreased healing during the mentioned stances is necessary or improves the game in any way. I do agree that healing signet should not give more hps than healing surge without even pressing a button, while the active part is never used 99.9% of the time. This skill has to be reworked.
On the other Hand there are still a lot of underwhelming skills and traits that should be looked at. Off-hand axe needs some love for example.
I’m still undecided between Sword/Shield and Axe/Shield.
In PvP i would suggest sword over axe because the mobility and CC outweights the slightly increased damage of axe, which is difficult to apply on moving targets. In PvE axe might be better but the question is if you need a shield there. Of course you should also take into consideration which other weapon set you are using and how well they complement one another.
The damage of a single bleed stack is always the same no matter which ability it comes from. So if an ability is supposed to cause a stronger bleed it has to apply more stacks. Thats a design decision – could have been implemented like you suggested aswell but thats not the case.
Sword+shield offers a decent mix of mobility, CC, surviveabilty, direct damage and condition damage. While not the best in any of these categories it’s very well rounded.
I’d disagree.

-Warrior can get either conditions, raw dps, or finishers/fields.

Warriors need a proper build to utilize burst skills well. Even then they are still kind of meh on some weapons (e.g. great sword). Certain builds even press you to not use them but keep your adrenaline bar full instead.
In the worst case steal is still a gap closer which is kind of redundant for thiefs but never disadvantageous. I do think however, it should have its cooldown reduced and some traits worked in by default like putting you in stealth or strip boons from target.
The purpose of leveling is to learn to play your character, so switch your weapons often to practise all of them.
The active part of the skill is an emergency " i need to not die this very instant " button.
No it’s not. Because the heal is so weak I’m going to die anyways so I’m not wasting 1,25 seconds trying to activate it. Situtations were it actually would make difference are so rare, even in pvp, that most players probably never encountered one…
I enjoy the regeneration of Healing Signet pretty much but its clearly bad game design if no one ever thinks about using the active because its so ineffective in comparison. My biggest concern at the moment is to not accidentally press the healing button. I have thought about disabeling it when i play my warrior – thats ridiculous! Lower the passive healing a bit (not to much!) and make the active worth using in emergency cases.
.
If they separated the pvp skill effect from the pve skill effect some mechanics wich would be to OP to be implimented in pvp could be implimented back in pve aka better hammer damage
On the other hand: if there were more enemies in pve that could and should be stunned or interrupted, hammer would be viable without adjusted damage. For example mobs that otherwise try to actively evade your hundred blades or attempt to stomp players in downed state.
What do you think of it?
I already disliked that approach back in WoW were the problem was way more apparent. The solution is not do develop two different games within the the same client but to bring both parts of the game more in line.
thanks, did not know this
And in wvw i can archieve 2,7k power.. 270/hit sounds pretty good on 50% uptime
It will hit higher. Formula is: 198.45 + (0.075 * Power) according to wiki.
In my case with ~2000 power it was around 340/hit. And its affected by might of course.
I took this trait, attacked the thief-bot in mists once and then just stood motionless in front of him with toughness/vitality gear and healing signet equipped. He killed himself when i had ~ 5k HP left.
Not bad i’d say
There are only two explanations for combustive shot nerf:
1) They weren’t honest when explaining the reasons behind it
2) They don’t know their own game mechanics and refuse to listen to people who do
choose one
I love how the devs pretended to care for constructive feedback and stuff and then release the patch with no changes to the early preview.
If the trait really gets buffed like mentioned in the patch preview it seems quite good. Should equal almost 50% uptime in PvP. Lets wait and see.
A: it tells you when you first start it how large it is, the latest path was 13456 KB I believe regardless it tells you how large it is when you first start it and before it goes into he progress bar.
Sadly this is not true. The Launcher first loads an update of unknown Size (usually less then 10 MB, sometimes up to 40 MB) and unknown purpose (maybe updating the updater). After this there is quick download “search for updates” (usually in the KB-range) and then the real patch is downloaded.
Also i know that displaying the size won’t make the download faster but as someone said i would be able to estimate the time needed which i can’t at the moment. And to know if it takes 15 Minutes or 5 hours would be very helpful for planing my evening if you know what i mean…
Hello,
It’s really annoying not to know how long it will take to download a patch for Guild Wars 2. I live in a village with very slow internet so it often takes me serveral hours to download one of the bigger patches and for example if i want to play with my friends in the evening i want to be able to tell them in advance if i’m able to log in or if we have to delay this to the next day because i’m still patching.
Yes, the launcher displays the number of files but this number is of no use, because not all files are of the same size. Sometimes the first 100 are downloaded in 10 seconds and the last 10 take an additional hour. It can’t be so difficult to give a value in MB – everyone else around the internet does it.
Also you should consider sticking to a fixed “patch day” because those patches of unknown size usually appear out of thin air when they are most unwanted. I remember checking for updates in the morning to make sure everthing is ready when i come home from work but still had to apply a new patch in the evening.
Last but not least you may display the patch notes within the launcher or give a link to them so we have something to do while waiting for the download to finish.
Thank you in advance
