I have never done WvW before and I have no idea where to start. In the WvW tab, I see a lot of things and I am unsure which to click. I tried selecting one of them and ended up alone in a map.
Which one should I join to play WvW and what are the different kinds of maps used for?
Additional advice on WvW matters are also appreciated.
I have a lvl 80 thief. Right now, I want to explore HoT. However, I am dying a lot. I feel that thief is too unforgiving of mistakes I make when exploring. For example, when I accidentally pulled 3 enemies while trying to find a Hero Point challenge, I died almost instantly. They weren’t even those group event type monsters that pack a punch. And this happened repeatedly.
Is there a profession that can survive better than thief? I just want to explore HoT without feeling frustrated by dying so easily.
I have already done some searching and most point me to Necromancer and Ranger. However, I would rather not play them since I am not a fan of pet and death themed classes. I was thinking of the heavy armour classes (warrior, guardian and revenant). I thought guardian would be best since it sounds like a tanky class, but for some reason, the posts I found say that guardian have a low hp pool.
So, any suggestions to a profession that can survive HoT exploration better than thief, besides ranger and necromancer? Ease of movement is not my concern. I just want to survive.
Other tips and advice to survive better (not related to profession) would also be very much appreciated.
Thank you.

And I’m pretty sure there is some form of regulation that forbids showing the death of children in video games.
I think people are misunderstanding this issue. There are plenty of children dying in scripted scenarios. As an example, the daughter of the protagonist in “The Last of Us” died in the prologue.
What game publishers are not doing is allow children in games to be affected by player actions. Scripted is fine, because the publishers know the limits and the game rating they have to adhere to. Letting players do whatever they want to children in games is risky, so they avoid it.
