Around 9 in a row. The same toxic players also showed up repeatedly.
If I run staff ele to nuke engies nests, enemy team has thieves/memsers/meditation guards that blink to me and kill me.
If I run control warrior my team has no dps and nothing dies unless I’m allowed to 1v1

I even faced off a pug group of all turret engies, guess how that went. And after all this, my rating only went down 3 points, so I’m predominantly being put on the team with worse odds.

Has anyone else felt like soloQ match making is outright abysmal right now?

Hello Gaile, hopefully you can clear something up for me. I made a separate post but it went unnoticed and I was told to use this thread instead.

I recently lost my Fused Dagger and opened a support ticket (#507677:Missing Item), as I wanted to confirm if it was due to my own error, or a server error, as I noticed its absence during a server maintenance period around 12am EST April 3.

In my ticket, I made it clear that if it was my own fault, I understood that it was my own problem to fix, but as do not recall destroying it I wanted to find out what happened. I was expecting 1 of 3 answers, any of which I would have accepted;

1)Its your fault, deal with it
2)It was a server error, but we cant help you
3)It was a server error, we can help you

The response I got was that the logs for the item were missing, and they didn’t know what happened. Repeated inquiry on what this meant gave me little new information and has made me more and more frustrated.

I’m hoping you can answer two questions for me, that no matter how many times I asked, were looked over by CS.

Taken from CS exchange:

1)From my understanding, the logs that you have should be able to tell
you the item history, or something of the sort, otherwise checking said
logs would tell you nothing. So CS telling me that they cannot locate them
tells me something is wrong.

CS claims that there is no possibility of a server error causing an item deletion. Now I firmly believe that arenanet servers are stable, well built systems, but realistically such a claim is impossible to make, especially with maintenance going on at the time in question. Similar disappearances have been reported to me by other players as well.

If these logs are missing, does that not warrant further investigation regardless of how stable the servers are?

2)I’ll reiterate that if it is found that I destroyed the dagger by my own mistake that the issue would be settled, but if a server error is found to be the cause, will it be possible to restore the skin or am I out of luck(and 300g) either way?

What build are you using for PVE staff? I use a lightning hammer spec and depending on if im in soldiers or zerker my fireball crits for 3-5k, adding font and burn damage and it just flat out outperforms the other atunements for dps. Those big numbers on ice spike and eruption mean nothing when you divide that by their animation time, its a net loss of dps. To even go through that rotation you need a good amount of points in arcana which is again counter to what I want to discuss.

And I’m not focusing on pvp balance here, I mentioned that currently staff is useless in pvp and thats mostly due to slow missile speeds and that it does not outperform the other sets in anyway. I also said in response to your claim that staff has lots of fields and finisher with the fact that only earth has finishers and they can only be used once every 9-15s by yourself, and in a group setting its easier to have just have other blast the fields. The best example of staff synergy that i find useful is frozenground>shockwave>unsteady ground/lava font which is great in both pve and wvw, though i usually forgo that and use signet of earth because its easier to land and lasts longer. And most pve fights dont require kiting so i can happily just spam lava font anyway.

Its my opinion that our skill synergy is low, if you believe otherwise, alright. But there’s no reason to not want more interplay and complexity to their interactions. Discuss that, not whether or not you think my opinion is wrong.

What about the snares making possible your dragon’s tooth will hit something, or a knockdown? Or water’s chill/daze combo? The very combo you mention, vulnerability + damage, actually exists in scepter in the form of Shatterstone.

I’d agree with you if dragons tooth had a shorter animation, targets have plenty of time to get up and and dodge after a gale or updraft. Shatterstone is a lackluster skill and useless in pvp, it has the same problems as dragon’s tooth. Also it only adds 4 stacks of vulnerabilty which can be stacked much faster by procs from 25 in air. Compare this to Warriors brutal shot (8 stacks) or Ranger rapid shot (10 stacks). If it came out faster, yea it would definitely provide the synergy i’d like, but casting it is a waste of time right now.

Staff has the most synergy of all ele weapons. Apart from the combo fields (fire/air/water) and finishers (earth), Ice Spike can be cast right after Meteor Shower for vulnerability, Frozen Ground/Static Field to keep them in said shower, Magnetic Aura to protect them while casting it and 10 points in Arcana means they can also get Fury while making said switch.

There’s so many combos/synergy with staff I cannot imagine why you’re not seeing it. Are you trolling?

The only pvp staff build I know of is a clerics build bunker that cant kill anything so I wont speak of staff in pvp (crossing fingers for good changes next patch). IIRC it was calculated that leaving fire is always a dps loss, the other atunements are only useful for support and control. Switching just for fury is a bad idea as many classes output much more fury to the group and in order to have that at all you need to put points into arcana, the point of this thread is to relax the need to go into this tree at all and to reward builds that use the other lines.
The one native finisher in staff is slow and can only be used in conjunction with your own fields once.

I think you’re getting the wrong impression of my point of discussion. I’m saying we need more synergy between skills and improvements to the cooldown system we currently have in order to promote stance dancing. I never said we have none. I said I want the level of interplay for our weapon sets to match up to D/D which I believe is the most well designed.

What about combo fields & finishers? Don’t they provide enough synergy? What about scepter? Hurl->Lightning Strike gives a massive burst? Not synergy?

There’s a lot of synergy already.

I mentioned the might stacking combos of s/d in my OP, I think thats one way to have skill synergy, but its not as interesting as the interplay of d/d skills. Massive burst off of instacast spells its not synergy, the spells do not affect each other. now if one spell stacked alot of vulnerability or some other on hit debuff for a short time, that would synergize with our instanukes and also give our opponents a tell for when the burst was coming, giving our nukes some counterplay.

Staff is what i believe needs the most work on increasing synergy, and hopefully the incoming changes will help.

Many ele players feel forced to put points into arcana in order to feel like they are not locked out of their skills. Let’s discuss ways we’d like this system improved.

One major problem is we need more cross atunement synergy between skills to promote atunement swapping:
D/D is well designed in how fluidly skills from one atunement flow or set up skills from another. We need this type of play across all weapon sets. Stacking blast finishers with s/d comes close but is not as interesting IMO.

The other problem is the high base CD on swapping:
As a very rough idea, what if the recharge gets reduced depending on how many atunements are on cool down. This will reduce the handicap that occurs if we execute a multiple atunement combo which normally can lock us out of a lot of skills simply for using the synergy between some skills.

I believe the devs agree atunements need some improvements, judging from the addition of fresh air (which I love but has a few balance problems), so let’s see if we can brainstorm some good ideas.

What is the appeal of GvG?

So I understand that most guilds that run gvg are ones who play wvw heavily.
I also understand that its one of the few things a wvw guild can do if the matchup is terrible. From the videos I’ve seen, they carry over zerg fighting strats like stacking blast finishers in water fields, using stealth to open etc, so i know there is complexity. But i cannot find a ball of 20 people wailing on each other interesting. I’ve seen at least one video where the person commanding was autoattacking for the majority of the fight, just running around tagging bodies. For me, 10v10 is too hectic to be interesting, but too small to be really interesting, ie when two large zergs duke it out over a large area.

As for conflicting with regular wvw, is an 8v8 custom server geared for deathmatch that different? Its a whole lot easier than playing a fair game in a impossible to balance game mode. Its great that you guys made an emergent game mode, but its a square peg trying to fit in a round hole. You guys can iterate faster than anet can.

Nothing is stopping enemy teams from not only killing the yaks, but now the players as well. It can work as a pvp event just fine. The point is to give players an active role in the supply run by having to activate the yak and then protecting it. It adds a pvp element because now yaks would no longer be free roaming easy events, players would have to be there, so to stop the supply train, you would have to attack other players. I’d also suggest increasing the movespeed on the yaks as this system would mean supply would no longer be an automated delivery.

As for PVE in WvW, its meant to be a mix of pvp and pve, the problem though is that the pve elements are lackluster, and or out of the way. What purpose do the centaurs and skritt serve on the borderlands? Nothing, why have them? Bur rather than removing content, use what we have and improve it, make it both interesting and tactical. Mercenary camps could potentially be so much more interesting if controlling them allowed you to hire some powerful merc (think alterac valley) that was actually a threat to an enemy group that consists of more than 1 person.

What if instead of dolyaks spawning at timed intervals and walking into the battle by themselves, (who trained them to know where to go without a guide? these yaks are smart!) The dolyak could be a activated event, which you already have the tech for. This gives players an active role in supply transport. Especially if you increase the lethality of the wildlife to the yaks. If a yak is unguarded, it doesnt make sense thakittencan make it all the way to its destination. Most escort events work in this matter already.

To answer a few of the questions:

  • Pristine Fractal Relics are not included. I am not a designer so I cannot accurately comment on why they are not included.

I understand you are not the core designer on this feature, you said so earlier. But please ask around the office if you can, weather its an oversight or on purpose should be a quick info grab from whoever does know.

This is a great feature, but there have been too many times where a feature was half explained, leaving some detail hanging that has caused anger and confusion.

Half of our focus skills are garbage. imagine if we had Blackhole nova instead of flamewall? As a ranged pull, it fits the theme of defense and control for focus.

Bastion would be a good replacement for fire aura, the group stability would be a great, needed addition.

I really dont wanna see this skills go!

According to the wiki, only the Endless Quiver can be upgraded to have innate infusion. Is it confirmed that this is the only upgradeable crafted back piece, or have the recipes for the others not been found?

I was checking out the overworld map for the mists and found a new island in the top right that isn’t currently in the line up. Unlike the surrounding areas it comes into view as you zoom in, and it looks like it may be orrian themed from what I can make out.
