I’m sure other threads are out there like this but I’m too lazy to find them. My main is not an engi but I do love the play style of it. However, I do find that engis do not have very nice “things”. What I mean is that our “Hobo Sacks” (not my term but fits the backpacks well) are just plain ugly. Our turrets look fine if you are going for the “I’m poor so here is a bunch of scrap metal put together” look. Like mentioned in the other threads, this game is based around cosmetics since there is no gear grind. Being forced to look at ugly backpacks and ugly turrets really turns me off from playing an engineer. I just want to list changes to appearance that I would like to see implemented. Feel free to hate/love them and any other ideas you have are welcome.
Kits (General): Backpacks need at least racial skins if not skins to match armor sets. Also ability to turn off backpacks completely would be nice, but I would rather there just be more options. I read somewhere in the forums someone suggested to allow your current back piece to overwrite the kit you are using. That is something that would be cool but I do not see that as something the devs will do.
Med Kit: I do not like the fact that you wield nothing in your hands. Let us have a bandage in one hand and an antidote in the other.
Bomb Kit: Same issue as Med Kit. Let us hold a bomb in main hand and maybe a fuse or a small torch for lighting bombs.
Grenade Kit: Same as above. Let us hold a grenade in both hands since we throw two at a time.
Tool Kit: Perfectly good to me. Nice but not needed would be to add the gear shield as the off-hand weapon.
Flamethrower and Elixer Gun: Looks great but let us change the skin to match our race or armor set.
Turrets: Same as Kits. Let us have racial skins for these as well. I do not like having my level 80 engineer use turrets that look like they were thrown together in 5 minutes. This is me dreaming here, but maybe let the turrets change appearance every 10 levels or so to become more advanced the higher you level. Start from a very basic look and eventually look extremely advanced (of course within the genre of your own race).
Example: An asuran engineer would start out with turrets that look very plain, but clearly look like an asuran engineer designed them. Every 10 levels he would upgrade them, making them look more powerful. By level 80, he would have turrets that look like they could vaporize anything that comes near them. And this would of course go for every race: Humans start with current turrets and go from there. Norn have feathers and skulls and animal bones on their turrets. Charr have Iron Legion themed turrets. Sylvari have plant themed turrets? (This was the only one I had trouble envisioning turrets that fit the plant and nature theme of the sylvari and the obvious metal and explosive nature of the engineer).
Hope that wasn’t too long. Any constructive feedback is always appreciated.
Bump bumpity bump
Similar to above photo but I chose a more purple hue to match my dual Whisperblades! He was my first character in the head-start early access or whatever you want to call it. Now if only they had an illusionary staff, my life would be complete.
He is saying since confusion was nerfed by 50%, and our downed state #1 attack adds confusion, our #1 attack in downed state is pretty useless. 1v1 downed state vs anyone beside an engi I think we will lose now since the damage from confusion is so small and there will never be enough time to summon three iRogues or three clones.
Count me in again! In case you forgot:
Ballyhoo
Both Days (hopefully)
NA: SOS
No recording capabilities…
Last one was lots of fun (though I hope I’m not hungover like the last time)!
I run a confusion build sometimes. I think it is FLIMP’s confusion build 0/20/30/0/20. Lots of stealth lots of confusion and very high toughness so you don’t get bursted down too much.
Shhhhh don’t tell anyone about this or they will probably put an internal cooldown on retaliatory shield trait.

I’m available the entire time however, my computer is too kittenty to record and play this game at the same time. But this sounds really fun! I hope to meet some awesome mesmers and maybe help a few people out!
Nice build. Just a few things:
1)You don’t have any condition cleansing, which is a must in WvW. I usually replace Mirror Images for Null Field but that’s just me.
2)What is your main goal? Shatter build? Since it might be better to take out 10 from Duelling and put them in Illusions to get Illusionary Persona.
3) Phantasmal Haste decreases Phantasm attack rates not summoning rates. Might be better to get the 3% more damage for each illusion trait (forgot the name of it) since you seem to be going for pure damage.

I run 0/20/30/0/20 scepter/torch and staff in spvp. Sooooooo much fun watching people kill themselves with 12-15 stacks of confusion. I used to think confusion was a nice secondary condition when I was running shatter builds, but I have come to realize it is one of the best conditions in spvp. If you don’t think it is then you are missing out.
There’s a 0/20/0/20/30 build that shaktiboy made a post about. I use it in spvp with a few changes (just runes and sigils) and it works wonders for me.
Being from SoS I would suggest anywhere but LA since I get queued into overflow almost every time I go there. Grove or Rata Sum are viable since I barely see anyone go there.
This should be stickied and take off osticat’s one so no matter what build you are looking for, you won’t have to search for it.
Thank you for this. I was reading all your comments in PyroAthiest’s Immortal build and was trying to find a good balance but you are way ahead of me! This is exactly what I wanted to play since I really love the retaliation trick with the focus 4/sword 3 but wanted to more damage output than Pyro’s build.
My vote is for Sea of Sorrows
