Not sure about crafting, but gathering exp counts
I use a full CD build as Ele. I use Rare Veggie Pizzas (+40% condition duration, +70 condition damage), and with that food buff my signet of fire lasts almost the full 16 seconds of the cooldown.
I use a full Carrion set of gear which gives me plenty of power, condition damage, and vitality. In the group situations where I do less condition damage I still have enough power to hit hard, but I do lack the crit chance. For soloing though the condition damage is quite awesome, and I find it also useful in WvW since everyone seems to attack different targets at random and a lot of people don’t spec for enough condition removal.
The Mystic Forge can be a bit finnicky when it comes to what ingredients show as combinable. I have had combos which grayed out until I put all 4 correct items in and then it shows as a valid recipe.
You picked a particularly difficult combo since both of your crafting skills use a lot of the same materials. For example, both use leather and both use all of the same trophies (claws, blood, totems, etc.). If you choose to continue with those two skills then you will have a more difficult than normal road ahead.
Some things to consider…
— Sell many materials you gather that you don’t need. As far as I know those two skills do not use any precious metals (silver, gold, etc.), so sell those and use the profit to buy other mats that you need.
— Maybe choose a different combo, keep one of those two but add in either Chef or Jewelcrafting. Chef and JC do not have any material overlap with the other 6 crafting skills, making for an easier time leveling up.
I had the exact same problem when I chose to level up Tailoring and Artificer on my Elementalist. Ultimately I chose to focus on Artificer alone and did not try to level up Tailoring until after I reached level 80.
There are actually a lot of combinations that are not available through crafting, not just this one. I’m sure it is intentional to add variety to the game that you might have to use different sources to get different combinations of stats. I consider the current crafting options to be sufficient for the majority of players and you can use other sources for the remaining combinations.
I will definitely not complete my story until I can get confirmation on whether this is intentional or bugged.
I completed Arah and am on the step that tells me to go back to Fort Trinity.
