Servers should be rewarded for having better organization/better guilds and players and NOT for coverage/population advantage.
To be honest, if they really wanted to make it even, they shouldn’t have made differences in servers as far as EU and NA because they don’t keep EU players in EU servers, and NA players in NA servers anyway.
Yeah, not all NA players have the same “off-hours” as one another, but it’s definitely closer than the difference between EU/Oceanic players. They could have made it an even playing field if off the bat, they didn’t label the servers NA and EU.
Anyway, I just came back to post because that person I quoted got the gist of my post. Coverage =/= Skill. But yeah, Anet don’t care about that.
Bump. Although this thread has been plagued w/ nonsense, Ehmry Bay could use a hand in coverage.
We grind out great guilds, we’re currently in rebuild mode for the upcoming season, as everyone else is. We have a night and morning presence, led by guys like Aragoorn, Grav, and Teldec, but they need numbers. I believe what Walnut stated we’re ideal situations, but really, we just need players who are willing to exert some effort.
WvW scoring format should have been changed a long time ago. A 24/7 open scoring system is ridiculous. I personally don’t do it, but there are many commanders who are spending a ridiculous amount of effort in attempts to provide coverage in the off hours. They say it’s fine now, but it will eventually burn them out. Along with the players who don’t have anything better to do, a good portion of these players playing in the off-hours for the sake of the server go to classes, have families, jobs, bills, etc.
Yeah, we are able to make our own decisions and make more logical decisions, but these are players that enjoy the game so much that they are living a pretty unhealthy lifestyle. Even then, they are still the minority and much of what they do, from defending, to upgrading, etc goes with a end result of nothing to show for.
I don’t have much of a suggestion to fix this, perhaps finally put a IP split between EU and NA players to even out the playing field, but I myself enjoy my New Zealand and Australian friends as I’m sure others do. But I hope you guys can look into this and find a solution. WvW is as much of a coverage game, as it is a numbers game but there are servers out there that have absolutely no presence outside of prime time.
I agree w/ the sentiment that this happens all the time due to differential in coverage but if 2 servers are prime time NA, fighting over 3 BL, and one server is prime time Oceanic with no resistance, it’s pretty much made up who will win the match up. The 24/7 scoring is ridiculous and should be cahnged.
As for the update, I was far against it before, but I do see incentives for specific players such as what is being popularly posted, roaming. Great stuff for those looking for that kind of fight, but the buffs are OP. Like the poster above said:
“They give outmanned buff to make you go out and fight without worrying about repairs, but at the same time they make your zergy opponent stronger with the bloodlust buff so that you can’t even have a fight to start with.”
Not only that, the buff gives points per spike, per buff. The bigger zerg w/ 3 buffs obviously gets the advantage on that, leading to a snowball effect. If anything, the spike buff should go to the outnumbered buff. Repair costs, ok cool, but you also have to go against a zerg that is buffed.
But it’s numbers they look at. They say forums aren’t even close to a representation of the game, so that made it much easier to skip out on reset night. Want a response from them to change the game back, don’t play. Do something else. Especially if you’re in a low pop server, go down teq or something. Don’t get frustrated by getting beat by numbers instead of skill, let the other servers get bored so they do something else too and let them see what numbers they’re tallying.
I can list even more but whats the point right? What does this all say to me? That there is no reason to WvW and they don’t care if there is no reason to play WvW
Do you realize that GW2 is a game and the only “reason” to play it should be to have fun?
I play WvW because I love massive, confusing battles between dozens of players. It could be better (and I concur with some of the points you mentioned), but as long as it will be fun, I’ll play WvW.
I agree and am exactly with you, I play WvW because of the massive PvP and yes you play to have fun, but who has fun being roflstomped week in week out due to fixable and balance issues out of your power that should have been addressed long ago? It becomes pointless if you’re going to play on an uneven playing field week in week out.
But whatever, I never played GW1 and many people said they enjoyed that much more. Maybe I’ll go try it out since it still has a following.
This is the last thing we need because as you know, Anet will often pull these type of post and grab kitten out of context in order to make them look good, just like the bloodlust stream, “oh we appreciate your hard work”, why didn’t you bother reading the other concerns of your community? What concerns? Oh please, let me remind you:
- WvW Balance in terms of population
- The ridiculous ratio it requires to be out numbered
- The uselessness of the out numbered buff
- How it will even be more useless when that outnumbered buff is nullified by the bloodlust buff because of overpopulation.
- WvW wxp issues to provide an incentive or a reason to even defend, everything is offense oriented, rewards for taking, drops for taking, you get NOTHING for defending a doly, camp, tower, keep, or castle.
- Your rewards for the short play totally outweighs your rewards for the longplay (PPT) which makes PPT pointless, aside for winning just to win.
- Ridiculous lifetime achievement points, and lack of compared to PvE and PvP
- Bringing back the orb mechanic which proved to cause snowball effects, instead of a competitive edge
- We don’t want siege wars
- Skill lag
- GvG: We want to have Guild Wars in Guild Wars. Is that too much to ask for?
- Lack of attention to the commander tag, such as exclusivity to guild members, or squad members on the map, so coordination can be had. Speed buffs to be able to drive your squad, etc.
- Mystic Forge: It takes forever to make a stack of superior siege, can we not have a “craft all” button?
- More incentive exclusivity for WvW to help attract people back to it. Because really, there is no reason to WvW. You get nothing. You are far more financially stable as a PvE player, more chances at rares, exotics, and precursors (Daily world boss chests, dungeon chests, fractal chests), armor and weapon skins exclusive to PvE play. If you REALLY play WvW, you know what I’m talking about. You force WvW players to PvE all the time, yet have done nothing.
- How about some fixes on hacks and bugs? There are servers still using arrow cart cam hacks, towers being flipped just like that because gates are bugged.
- Anti Stealth: Introduce some because you guys are crazy if we’re going to spend 15 badges + 10 supply + karma on a anti stealth mechanic when I’ll be lucky to get 2 badges on the kill.
I can list even more but whats the point right? What does this all say to me? That there is no reason to WvW and they don’t care if there is no reason to play WvW So hell no, they don’t deserve a pat on the back, at least not from this community because what have they done but introduce even more game breaking mechanics to the game? What have they really done to make the WvW community happy that was in the interest of the community? They have a loyal community, a proactive one at that, which gives them the time of day, and money, to help the game progress, but as of late, I can’t help but feel cheated that we are being funneled into a broken failed esports dream.

I have this problem every 2 weeks, making superiors. It’s been addressed, but who knows if they’ll ever get to it just like the rest of issues in the pile. But yeah, I spend about an hour just making superiors, falling sleepy and kitten, I hear ya.
Perception =/= Reality, go to the pvp forums and post this topic, Pvp is definetly not the focus, might have the “publicity” but not the focus, its been stated many times already, all game modes especially wvw are the focus.
and fyi, Pvp is not a “dead” game mode
No WvW is not the focus.
We don’t want orb bonuses
We don’t want siegewars
PvP is dead. When PAX only gets that many subscribers for a major tourney and the comments are from ppl who don’t play…its dead. When I step into the mists and am the ONLY person there b/c I’m waiting on a WvW queue….its dead.
If WvW was the focus we’d have Devs listening to us…….they are ignoring what WvW players are telling them and continuing to focus on a dead (yes you can’t prove otherwise) gametype.
thank you

Can anyone confirm this fella as Anet employee b/c just reading through his post history is pretty lulz
Hhmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I watch Starcraft 2 NASL tournaments but I only play SC2 on occasion.
I don’t understand statements like “pvp is dead” or “this game is dead”. As long as the servers are running this game is alive.
Honestly why is anyone playing this game if they think it is utter crap?
You must have never pressed the crossed swords icon on the upper left corner because if you did, you would have known that no one cares for PvP. The precious teams that Anet gave all their attention to have fled.
People are playing the game because it has a good foundation that everyone can love, it’s not a grind fest to level your toon, crafting is not impossible, has a great PvE side, a large following in WvW, and has potential to be a great game, but Anet does nothing to capitalize on it. The flaws in this game are able to be fixed, and when fixed, it could be a great game. That’s why we still play, why we’re in the forums, and keep at it.
Nice title, I was wondering where you we’re going with it, lol.
Anyway, I’m tired of this beating around the bush by Anet after just straight up taking the cheap way out of me asking whether or not there will be an official response from Anet. But that was my fault, I should have titled it whether or not there will be an official response to the community and recent uproar in WvW.
I’ll probably play into the season for a few weeks, then seeing how our server continues to get roflstomped because of population differences and imbalance issues, I’ll truly contemplate calling it quits. I’ve got my 100 bucks worth (50 from gems) out of the game, and thank you for that, but I’ll skip the funnel rollercoaster of PvP and play whereever the gamer gods send me to.
Anet, you must not have any idea how lucky you are to have such a vocal proactive community for YOUR game. There are so many 3rd party apps, trading post websites, WvW tracking, GvG websites, forums, youtube channels, and podcasts on the game. This is how much the community loves your product.
That love is not unconditional. Get your kitten together Anet.
Like it or not, none of us is on their dev team no matter how good, bad, knowledgeable or crackpot of players we may be.
It’s because we’re not on the dev team that we’re asking these questions. These new buffs coming into play w/ Bloodlust, was it from a suggestion from the community? Do they ever really grab anything from the community? Like the commander tags, why is it that we can’t have it visible to our /squad exclusively per say, since that command is completely useless at the moment, it would give purpose to /squad talk.
Every move Anet has made so far has been in the interest of what they want to do. We’ve all paid to play, a good amount of us have paid gems for small in game luxuries, knowing it’s really to help the company progress. Why CAN’T I ask about a game mode I’m interested in? If there is REAL progress, not some untested patch in that will introduce even more problems, when there we’re many other issues to begin with.
It’ll be sad too, if Anet is really funneling us to play PvP. They have something good in WvW, and GvG. The GvG community organized a system to keep track of matches on their own. Guilds are communicating across servers to accomplish this, and if that isn’t a show of dedication and interest from the community then I don’t know what is. It really is a missed opportunity.
I don’t really expect an official response, but I thought I’d try anyway. At the very least, as a community, we’ve shown our concern and interest in WvW. If that isn’t enough to take us serious, then on to the next game.

I don’t give a kitten about Red Guard, nor do I see why their opinions matter any more than even the least of any servers militia men, or a dev actually working on the game.
So they made a youtube marking their take of WvW progression. So what.
WvW is probably going to die if we just keep getting ignored. They expected it to be a casual game, which explains why WvW has so many faults and is far from a complete playstyle.
I don’t give a kitten about what you think about Red Guard, but don’t YOU have concerns about WvW? Population mismatches, the lack of beta testing, the return of the orb and blood lust isles bias towards overpopulated servers? And how all this will cripple GvG, the last real organized form of PvP people even care about at the moment? If not you, then look at the rest of the WvW thread because there are TONS of other people who DO want answers.
I know people have been banned for posting the link, I’m sure plenty of you can find his youtube channel and the video he posted 9/12/13 on the progression (or lack of) in GW2 in terms of WvW and GvG.
Sacrx, and moreso Red Guard, is a guild held in high regard to the community and so their opinions on the game DO matter very much. I myself, being heavily invested in WvW, and currently interested in the growth of GvG, am HIGHLY concerned about the state and future of WvW and GvG because someone who knows so much about the game has pretty much been ignored.
If I get banned for mentioning it, so be it, but I believe it is in the large interest of the WvW community to hear an official response from Anet. I believe many WvWers are playing in belief that you guys are serious about this aspect of the game, but if we are just being funneled to sPvP for Anets dream of an esport, then I’m wasting my time in hopes of progress, and will sadly take my leave.
OP knows whats up. When you guys gonna listen to the community?
why we wont see a useful outnumbered buff:
scenario — player enters map where his server has outnumbered. server loses outnumbered. other players harass him to leave so server can be stronger.
Correct. The idea behind the buff is to incentivize you to show up even if you are outnumbered by pulling out some of the disincentive for losing a lot, but if we put anything too good on it, it will cause serious problems between players. We don’t want it to be something that people fight over, harass each other over, or generally cause a worse play experience because someone takes away the buff because it is our goal for the maps to be full and for no one to have the buff.
You’re already causing conflict in lower WvW pop servers which constantly have this “buff” since they are going back and forth with the PvE community about fielding numbers since your buff means nothing. And now, this buff will mean even less when lower populated servers go against high populated servers and they’ll get buffs from the new islands anyway, to counteract the “outnumbered buff”.
And it wasn’t even hard to reach to that conclusion…
The incentive for WvW should be the ability to kill something that isn’t programmed.
It would be nice to not have to do champ loops or farming in pve in order to get money and crafting materials. That doesn’t seem to be in the plans.
That’s because there is no incentive to defend. You get NOTHING to defend except spare change-like wxp and karma. There literally is no reason to defend, there is more reason to let the ball drop and recap. And for a game where keeping the points you have is equally as important as gaining points from other sources, they sure do a bad job of rewarding the defense.
If you give incentive to defend, you will have the opportunity to kill something that isn’t programmed.
No. This is a population issue which tips the scale to those who can man these nodes while zerging a tower, keep, garri.
There are so many great things about PvE that keep a player attached to it, that there really is no reason to WvW. I don’t know about everyone elses server, but this has significantly dropped the player population in WvW for Ehmry Bay. On top of that, even though we fall 3rd every week, we still keep getting boosted in the rankings. Are you trying to kill my server?
My suggestions for starters:
- Add WXP for defending dolyaks. You give WXP for killing them, there should be a reward for defending them. I get the nerf for karma and exp, that’s fine, but bring back the WXP for it and reward people.
- Add WXP for upgrading camps, towers, keeps, accordingly to each upgrade (the more it costs to upgrade, the more WXP you get to complete the upgrade). It’s already hard enough to make money in WvW when you play it standalone, it’s more expensive to upgrade a structure just to lose it to some zergball from a higher tier. It’d be nice for some compensation, knowing I’m not just burning my money away.
- There should be some sort of better reward system for defending. WvW is based on how many points you can keep and take away from the enemy. You practically get nothing for defending anything.
- How about some ‘EXCLUSIVE’ incentives for playing WvW? Playing PvE, you get all sorts of perks, from running dungeons, to fractals, world bosses who spawn a daily chest, and you are able to get things ONLY from these sources. Armor and weapons are exclusive to farming PvE content, there is no exclusivity for WvW. There is an argument that you don’t want to force PvE’rs to play WvW, but you are forcing WvWer’s to play PvE.
I appreciate the updates, all the WvW traits, the new flame ram mastery, the new chest meta (who knows if it’ll even be worth it), the living story for WvW to tend to the Achievement Points issue, I think they’re great additions, but when you look at the whole picture, with playstyles aside, WvW is nowhere close to the appeal of PvE. You can make much more money PvE’ing from dungeon rewards giving exclusive armor tokens and gold, numerous daily world boss chests w/ a higher chance at a precursor, fractal rewards w/ a daily chest giving a chance at ascended rings, even the number of ascended mats are biased to PvE, as well are high tier gathering nodes.
I normally don’t post on these forums but there has been a huge downfall in the interest of WvW in my server in the past 2 months. I personally think your new league system may kill it if there really are no significant changes made.
Thanks for your time.
(edited by Radiology.3597)
Just for reference, from my experience: Orr ember events last 20 minutes max with the 5 – 10 min downtime and the 10 minutes of spawning. I get about 25 chests, 10 of the strongboxes, and 15 of the coffers.
20 min = 25 ish boxes
An hour brings in 75, each has 6 silver on average + a blue/green (~1s) and a random mat (i deposit my mats). 75 boxes * 7 Silver = 12.75 gold
That’s not including drops from veteran embers.
And yeah, I’m guilty of joining in the zerg. I didn’t bad mouth anyone, I actually thought the trolling was funny (someone kept killing the Cauldrons for a few hours), but it’s come to the point where I have to make a choice, do I want to farm today or do I want to play WvW. I want to help my server but there are things in the game that lets just face it, it’ll never drop from me. Precursor, Genesis, whatever. And everyone who WvW’s knows there is NO income there. It’s a lame bunch of options.
My concern is that GW2 is turning into a farm fest when they said this isn’t what they wanted for the game. Granted everything can be considered farming in an MMO but it is pretty ridiculous. I play often and a bit more than casually but if I don’t farm along, and actually “play” the game doing WvW, map completion, whatever it may be, isn’t it simple enough to say I will fall behind the economy?
I personally like WvW but I also don’t want to be broke as hell when the bubble does burst. AND if those are my options, farm or play, then I don’t know if I want to play anymore.
60+ ticket tries, but I finally got it done. You really just have to get into the flow of the pattern and do not get discouraged as every error is experience which will lead to your success.
Gear: Zerker amd Celestial Ascended accessories.
Weapons: GS/Longbow
Trait lines: 30/20/10/10/0
Strength II: Restorative Strength was probably what saved me in the clutch. Became my 2nd/emergency condition removal.
Strength III: Great Fortitude. Additional HP.
Strength XII: Berserker’s Might. Helps to work in sync with Minor Master trait, Building Momentum where when you use your burst skill (Longbow F1), you regain endurance.
Arms II: Furious Speed. You should have a decent amount of crit proc, which should give you swiftness, which is important for phase 3.
Arms III: Bleeds apply 50% longer, which I guess can be interchanged but I found it useful for on the run DPS with Longbow 5 applying a 21.5 second bleed.
Defense II: Dogged March, useful for phase 3 as she applies cripple on you. When you are out of endurance, out of condition removal, this may be what saves you on the run.
Tactics IV: Stronger Bowstrings for increased range.
6: Healing Signet, helps with continuous regen + condition removal.
7: On My Mark, extra DPS for phase 3. Interchangeable.
8: Endure Pain, Ace in the hole. Stuck under AoE’s and couldn’t make it to a safety spot? Burn it.
9: Shake It Off, primary condition removal for when you get a nasty cripple.
10: Signet of Rage, works in sync with Building Momentum for endurance regen. and your primary source for swiftness. Burn as needed, auto use in phase 3 for swiftness and DPS purposes.
Food: Bowl of Orrian Truffle and Beef Stew for the 40% endurance regeneration.
Gameplay and Tips: I’ll try not to repeat what other people have said and only stress what I actually believe are urgent.
Phase 1: Bring down the orbs ASAP. You’ll be using GS for this whole 1st Phase. Use your 3 skill in tight spots as they move through the visions. Entering, you should be able to down the 1st orb, lead a vision into the first well, debuff her TWICE before the 2nd orb appears. Pay attention to the patterns as they don’t change while dragging the visions to the wells. The route definitely sticks the more times you do it.
Tips for this phase: Be in some sort of party so you can target her. Somewhere during the down times of the 1st phase, or even right at the beginning, drop a call target on her. It will help in the long run, because in the moment, when visions and crap are coming at you, it will be hard to pick her out.
Phase 2: To be honest, I play with the settings set low because my PC can’t handle the zerg down under AND all the stuff above so I don’t experience the flash, but I’m assuming this is the part where she leaps at you. Off the bat, I switch to LB and burn my 5 skill to keep her in place and so I can find a safe spot.
Phase 3: Moving with the safety spots. The challenge is actually not keeping distance with Liadri but the movement and immediately downing the orbs. They can pull you at the worst times right before an AoE storm. Get ready to time your condition removals and use your Endure Pain as needed. You’ll be side scrolling, or even backward scrolling most of the time.
Tips for this phase:
- LB3 is a good way to get rid of an orb, so you don’t have to target it individually.
- Use your insticts, if she is distant to you and she’s about to make he leap to your area, use your F1 where you are standing, 4 skill to blind, 5 to keep her stationary and roll away. It won’t always be in that order, but let your instinct take over.
- What I don’t recall being mentioned was the way you run clockwise. Yes you run clockwise but what worked best for me was weaving from the outer area of the dome to the inner. In essence, what you are doing is if the safe spots are in cardinal directions (NSEW) then you are running in a diamond/square path within the circle. it may sound complicated but you’ll get a feel for it. Once you run it, you’ll eventually see that having a safe zone is not the hard part, it is making sure the orbs don’t pull you into danger.
In conclusion, I’m not a pro at this. I could probably do it again if I had to, but it was not easy. But there are patterns that you should pay attention to. Don’t be discouraged by failure. Good luck and hope I was of help.
Thanks to everyone who’s contributed as well, as I’ve gathered much useful information from this thread!
Yeah, as a norn, you can hardly see much and the red circles are pretty hard to distinguish… Mechanics are mechanics but please, make it so its playable.
