They will probably milk the China bucks for all it is worth. Until that market starts to get bored/disgruntled with no new WvW content, then they will finally start reacting to the problem. But, by that time NA and EU may already be long gone.

In fact, Why should they make any new content or spend resources on substantial changes? most of the market has already been tapped in places like NA and EU, meanwhile in china its fresh and new with Qs in the several hundreds,with all the fun and joy, love and phrase of a new mmo, In makes sense in a cynical way, prolly explains why theres no content, or even a whisper of communication

We had the game engine and combat system thats smoother and streamlined than most Mmos right now
-The opportunity to create the RvR game for many years,
-With in depth reward and match up systems,
-Guild coordination in large scale pvp
-Open pvp in a variety of WvW maps, many that utilize EXISTING pve maps
-A culture of its own together with small subcultures like GvGs
-The “hardcore” and committed mentality
-A mode that can keep players and groups of players hooked playing the EXACT SAME THING for many months and still enjoy because it allowed us to do and achieve things working alone as part of something greater or together as a guild or group of friends
-All of that and so much more

I cant help but feel, and I know im not alone, that all of the potential was just kittened away, kittened right out of their hands.
-either but a lack of resources and people (small wvw team/multiple LS teams,
-a different development philosophy (focus on pve),
-A rigid design (did not expect WvW to be so popular,
-no major shifts in game development to compensate)
-or just plain dev apathy especially for the many months leading up to today (no dev communication or feedback/Grouch Lying about having a WvW Cdi)

Personally my theory is all of the above on top of the China release which is supposedly bigger than NA and EU.

Imagine if they took a bit of time to Allow the map of Dry top to have a WvW version where you can fight, having 3 servers similar to the Bls, Does not even have to have objectives if devs feel that will take too long.

Something new and Devs dont even have to work on a new wvw map from scratch, just use the existing ones and let us fight in it.

Imagine Combat in Dark mines and tunnels, Or combat in a huge sandstorm

The issue is that the post is over a year old and harldy anything happened to WvW.

Dont say EOTM – its nothing but a pve karma/wxp train and is such a waste of resource which has been better used to improve and fix the current maps. But yeah you always come to topics to tell all people theyre wrong and why Anet cant do this or that about it.

According to Anet, Orbs count as major content, and apparently WvW seasons too, so thats nice over a year, *clap2x

When Devs promise to do a WvW cdi or anything in game to support their players they should be held accountable in some way for providing that wrong information or outright lying, many people saw the livesteam waited for the Cdi they were told to expect.

Regardless if the Cdi is pointless or its just some weird PR stuff, this intentional deception or misinformation should be addressed.

Long ago Anet had a livesteam “for WvW”. of course there was no new content or notable announcements but a dev (grouch I think although I could be wrong) announced that there would be a Cdi this week, its already friday and no word on the cdi.

So were we intentionally deceived or was it a miscommunication/wrong information on the part of the dev?

I’d love new ‘untested’ maps, here’s why:

- Winning and losing doesn’t mean skritt outside of tournaments.
- Fun matters.
- Nothing stale is fun.
- New maps are not stale.

Even if the layouts are a bit imbalanced in whatever way, with user feedback the issues are ironed out.

Winning and losing during the “off season” means nothing, so mucking around with new maps during the off season has only positives, no negatives.

If a tournament comes around, and the new maps aren’t fully balanced, then use the old maps for the tournament.

Simple.

Ty for reading Devon. Chop chop on the new maps. Just don’t make it like EOTM, make it like ACTUAL WVW.

I think the poster also made the mistake of thinking that anet would or should be making completely new maps from scratch, why not use the ones we have? imagine a place as simple as queensdale where 3 servers can go out and fight each other, we have so much unique and even beautiful geography in the game thats basically underused currently in the pve world,remember its close to 2 years after release.

These new maps dont even need caps/towers/keeps if it would take long to implement, just go out, fight and explore is an amazing new area

How do you know there are no new maps or major developments in the process?

Based on the quotes, my example would be EOTM, several months before its release (around december) we already had information or even teases about it, then beta testing. If you look at the time line between that information and its final release was several months at the very least.

If we use this as an example , (we have no info on any new content for wvw as of now) it will be nothing short of several months til we get any substantial content for WvW, this is happening at the same time as WvW being so dragged on and heavily stagnated, for many players, guilds and servers.

Recently we had Devs finally cease their silence and share some of their thoughts on the development of WvW.

“I’ll make a couple of points here to hopefully clarify this issue.
1) It takes a very large amount of time and effort to make a new map. It’s definitely more than a 6 month process from start to finish. Especially if we are talking about building a new borderlands taking all the thing we’ve learned since the game came out into account. With that in mind it’s a big task. It took us a little under a year to get EotM built and shipped from conception to release. So that is a more reasonable timeline for a new map.
2) The area we added to Obsidian Sanctum was in progress prior to the incident mentioned above and, while it didn’t take a particularly large amount of time, was still a process of over a month. We don’t release map changes without thorough testing. Keep in mind that was just a small change to an existing map, not a completely new map.
3) We currently, unfortunately, don’t have the ability to rotate maps in and out of the game in the manner discussed above. We have talked about this concept many times and it is something we’d like to be able to do long term, but it is not a small task given the technical structure of our game.
All of those things being true, we absolutely want to make new maps for WvW and when we have them ready to talk about and show off, believe me we will. It’s very important to us that when we do release a new WvW map it is a clear example of what we think the ideal WvW map would be. That means we will test the heck out of it and do everything we can to make sure it is even more awesome than the current maps. I realize this isn’t a timeline or an answer to where are more maps, but it’s as much as we can give you right now and it hopefully gives some insight to the size of the task. As I said, as soon as we have more to talk about or show, you will hear it.”

From my understanding of this although there is still some “development” going on for WvW, We will likely have no substantial updates coming for the foreseable future, much developer resources already spent of things like Eotm and the philosophy of building a new map form scratch rather than existing ones.

Much like science, you don’t have to believe it for it to be true.

Please convert even 1 of the existing maps you have, doesnt have to have towers camps keeps or anything, just allow us to play and fight on it, WvW has stagnated so hard

It has come to the point that as WvW has not received real updates since launch that we ourselves would not mind doing the testing.

I can appreciate that many people don’t like EotM, but don’t conflate a lack of updates that you personally like with a lack of updates. WvW has added a great deal of content and rewards over just the last calendar year.

Hopefully you will find more you like in future updates and we’ll continue to add to the game.

Can you not just use Existing Pve maps as a template for a new WvW map? or even just using the Pve Maps themselves with little Changes for WvW except with 3 servers of people fighting in it, theres so many interesting places and geography I would just love to fight over, even without any objectives, that would do so much to stop the stagnation in WvW

Less and less people are playing WvW the longer it stagnates, thats the reality that we face. For T1 servers though

Some have better communities than others
Some have better coverage than others
Some will pay you to transfer to them
And Some are so enormously complex its hard to describe them in short phrases.

So its up to you what you wanna pick, although if its just you and not an entire guild I doubt that server will pay so you can cross that out

Im not entirely convinced balance would be a concern. Clearly, some keeps and towers are far more difficult to take than others given map layout, siege placement, and/or choke points.

Not to give them ideas, but it’d almost make an interesting living story idea.. fortresses being constructed in say Sparkfly Den. Part of the story would be attempting build up your towers/keeps/main base, all the while attempting to stop your enemy from doing the same. The next part of the story could be outfitting your bases with whatever they need. The final part (which hopefully is added as permanent content), is WvW based inside a PvE map (minus the PvE quests). Although I wouldn’t mind world or meta events spawning, I think that’d add an interesting element to it.

Thanks for your input, the main point of the post though was to ask why Anet cannot just utilize one of the many existing pve maps (with the necessary adjustments and modifications) to bring something new and fresh to WvW which has been stagnating heavily even before WvW season 2,

From my understanding it cant be harder than making a completely new map such as Eotm, although eotm was made by a LS team rather than the WvW team

On the topic of balance though lets take a look at a popular map like queensdale.

Due to there layouts lets imagine having the 3 keeps from EB (with some modifications)
placed on this map respectively on the North, South east and South western sides of the map, unique objectives can be developed here such as the large water processing plant in the north or Swamp to the south as unique objectives to be contested, this on top off many more camps and the occasional “tower”

I imagine it would come down to balance. There’s a reason the WvW maps are mirrored and designed the way they are. PVE maps don’t follow the same design philosophy as WvW (even though there are clear advantages to keeps in EB).

That being said, I would love to see an open world PVP version of the current maps with max level set to 80 and NPCs/events scaled appropriately.

A pseudo open world pvp is what I had in mind, various objectives can be inputted into the existing maps on conversion, people who wanna keep the rigid format of regular wvw will still have the regular WvW maps.

My thinking was that a new WvW map could do so much so WvW in its current stagnating state, so why not convert one of two of the existing maps we already have on hand rather than spend another year creating another EOTM

Whats prevents Anet from using existings maps in the Pve world, of which we have a dozen plus off, as a template or straight up setting for a new wvw map? even a WvW version of places like Queensdale or Orr would be great for adding something fresh to WvW.

Is it due to programming reasons? pve maps being incompatible for WvW conversion?
A Rigid plan to stick to the current WvW format after close to 2 years?
Lack of Developer resources?

they are talking about Pvp Events now which seems to be longer than the discussion about WvW (10+minutes)

basically no new annoucements or anything for WvW actually, just mentions that the devs read the forums and a messy FAQ which no new information.

So using your straw man argument example, you will still have 100+ people unable to play WvW, denying people the right to play wvw is just plain wrong , especially if server abcd never fields a certain number at a certain time.

your system is locking people out of the game and is easily abused by a defending force, whether or not a force on a certain map has anything to to do is irrelevent, also fyi, please dont make your examples based on the assumption that 1 server only fills 1 map at a time, 1 server will have some number of people on all maps, further worsening the effect of your system, thats still not factoring into account certain groups like afkers.

your system has been suggested many times before and if you used the search function you will see the answers and realize why its a bad idea

Hm, why? If I’ll leave a border, then I’ll make a slot for other people, and they can join :> That’s all. And yeah – if some people from server (a) will leave a border, while there will be still 50 of people from server (b), then it will be blocked for people from server (b), cause they’ve got alot of people on the border. Why system should let them join more people, while there’s no enough enemies? This is weird.

I’m writing here just about allow people to join a border gradually.
Then every border will be filled gradually, evenly on each server
While now 100+ people can join in a moment, and smash everything that moves (and after that jump on the next border…) :|
Regardless of how many people are on a hostile server.

A simple thing, and how much could it change.

youve not only oversimplified it but youve also made many false assumptions, people are not water that will gradually flow into whatever you manipulate, you system is also very open to abuse, what if one server decides to log off a map? should the other servers players be kicked out til it reaches the number you arbitrarily set up? or should the other servers players simply go afk in wvw knowing they wont be able to get back in.

what about servers that can fill 2 maps at a certain time while another server can fill 1 map? youre going to deny the right to play for the other players on the 2nd map?

also there are 3 servers, server a might have 20 people, server b might have 10 people and server C zero, what will you do about that? kick everyone so nothing can get capped “unfairly”? how would any1 even get back in

The Lag lately has seemingly gotten worse, a guarantee now for many people in wvw in small or big fights, not only that but the lag seems to have transitioned into pve as well, mounth maelstorm has rubber banding issues while wvw is unplayable in fights

I encourage any Oceanic guild leader looking at this thread to seriously consider the move. You’ll be the only Oceanic WvW guild here, which would help our Oceanic PvX guild NOC out a lot. It will also alleviate a lot of NA commanders running overtime in order to give a good handoff to our SEA, who carry it onto EU and NA the next day.

Despite what the trolls are saying in this thread, our Oceanic presence right now is similar to a T3 server at best and is heavily reliant on NA and SEA guilds to play overtime to cover it. You can help change that. There will be plenty of fights against guilds like XPK, SoX, GC, HIRE, MERC etc. and plenty of challenges, with plenty of support from the rest of Beastgate.

Rev is speaking the truth. We seriously need help during the off hours. We are strong throughout most of the day but when NA goes to bed we bleed PPT and lose all upgrades that we have built up. We genuinely need your help.
