'A new build is ready' instancing issue

While inside the final instance at the top of the tower, a new build became available. The initial 10 minute period passed so that the message switched to “your game will restart in X minutes.” This wasn’t a problem of course, we finished in plenty of time before being kicked out. The problem was that once the build is ready, you will be kicked from the game as soon as you switch zones or leave an instance. The whole reason I was doing the instance so that I could get the diving achievement that requires exiting the instance through the correct portal. When I did that, I was kicked from the game, the update installed, and when I logged in again, I was not returned to the location for that diving achievement, but rather to the top of the tower, outside the instance entrance. Now I have to go through that boss fight again (which, not to be mean, is really, really tedious after the first couple of times) just to get my dive achievement, which by all rights, I should have right now.

Had the same issue last night, had to redo it and got the chieve.

Queue'd upgrades deleted, influence gone.

HPow is not worth the investment, and tanking isnt something that you can do on content that is harder. For PVE, its best to kill the mob before it kills you and your team mates.

Going tanky will often hurt your group more than it helps. The longer the mob is alive = the more time you have to take dmg = the more risk involved. Of course there will always be exceptions, but the general rule of thumb is: Zerker is king.

Also, this is implying that your team mates arent keyboard-droolers.

Is Flamethrower actually worth using now?

Flamethrower is great for large AOE fights, but it lacks the power of a grenade build or a bomb build. FT is really good at surviving though, with well timed blinds and knockbacks, plus you have a free fire field which you can blast up to 6 times alone.

Why the condescension? Because they may be new to the profession and know little to nothing about it. I had never heard of the “Blackwater” build until I made my mesmer. So I asked questions about it. Just becaue a build has been around a long time does not mean it is know by all. If a player just got the game, its rather foolish to assume they should know about a burst build just because its been around for a year in a game they never played before.

Maybe I’m just tired of people not thinking for themselves.. : /

I am almost 99.9% positive that you didn’t start playing meta builds on your own. I don’t know who you are, but there is a high possibility that you are not in the high levels of TPVP in this game on engis. Ostrich, teldo, five gauge etc. are very good players, and their builds change the meta, let alone create them. Please don’t jump on people for using a build, when most of the time, it is due to it being the only viable one.

You might be a famous engi, but 9 out of 10 you are probably not. Your statement about people not thinking for themselves is very selfish and you act like you created all the builds currently in the meta right now. Please show me your footage in professional gaming, personal 1v1s etc. The only person who can complain about people not using builds are the ones who actually created them.

And in this game, it is not hard to create a build that eventually becomes a meta. I main mesmer, and was happy to see my build actually being used to the T, this was a new phantasm build btw. I am much better on mesmer, but at least I knew enough about the class to be like, holy crap, someone else is using my excact same build to pwn on. This was a big day for me.

Anyways, yeah, stop the h8 yo.

Before new classes get introduced, they should balance the existing classes first in a right way and then work on new skills and traits for them to create more build diversity. New classes can wait for at least 2-3 more years for me.

Many people want strange classes, but don’t expect them to be made just because you personally want it so much ^^ I personally wouldn’t like to see something like a bard

I want another class which main focus is support, a heavy class which plays songs and is reminiscent of the EQ1 bard.

Meh, if I wanted to itemize berserker I’d play a more survivable, higher damage, easier to play class (so, pretty much all of them.) I’d like to see some good defensive engineers builds but they don’t appear to hold up well.

What do you mean by “itemizing” Berserker?

They mean if they wanted to gear zerker, they would play a class capable of pumping out more damage without getting squished.

…oh kittenmit, they killed Rifled Turret Barrels’ range, now? It’d be nice if they’d just fix the bugs before worrying at the balance – otherwise, every time they touch balance, it breaks things further.

Edit: Upon personal investigation, I’ve found that while Rifled Turret Barrels does not change the range at which the ‘out of range’ indicator on the skill is activated/deactivated, Rifled Turret Barrels does increase the range.

The Rocket Turret thing is known by the staff (for once, they knew before I did) and should be fixed soon.
Apparently it doesn’t warrant a hotfix, though. Nice, huh?

Net increase in bugs: +0. The number is 22.

But it’s easier to just release new bugged stuff, instead of fixing their old mistakes.

the arch on the animation makes the thing practically useless. Why does it have to fly higher than a 4 story building to hit something 1500 range away?

so it can go over walls, and it’s also harder for the enemy to see, and irl, yes, it does need to go high to travel far,(its not a sniper, but a rocket)

Ever seen an RPG? It’s not a cross-continental rocket and doesn’t have to travel into space to reach it’s target.

Please fix this, because most of us just wasted 2 hours waiting, to not be able to beat the encounter due to your lack of testing.

Best PVE FT build?

From my experience the HGH FT build with boom duration is the best one for PvE, and it is excellent if FoTM.

Toss elixir H gives 7s Protection or 16s vigor/regen.
Elixir B gives 16s fury/swiftness on a 32s CD, if you get fury from the toss elixir B is permanent for that rotation.
you buff all your allies every time you trow an elixir, plus elixir C converts condis into booms, this is a small plus that adds up.

This build keeps permanent 4-8 vuln stacks, and does from 4.5k up to 7k on bosses.

It is awesome for World bosses, as the cone radius hits multiple times.

It is not the best DPS, but it’s fun, and you’re way tankier then a nade engi.

If the nade engi is standing where he can get hit, he’s doing it wrong : )

Use your regular spec for it, you don’t need to change for world bosses, just put on your pvt gear. Do the world boss, then go back to what you were wearing before.

So I wanted to hear from you warriors how you think being able to escape almost all your fights is considered fair? I remember when Ele RTL was nerfed, and made it so eles can still escape but easier to catch if they dont use RTL correctly. Some classes can CC making impossible or harder for you to escape. But not for warriors, not to mention their Cool downs are minimal and a higher HP pool making it easy to escape plenty of situations.

I have been annoyed that no matter if I go 1vs1 or 1vs2 againts a warrior, he can still escape. When I WvW on my ranger, escaping can be done but can also be punishing if I dont remove CC’s correctly, especially since rangers don’t have many instant condition removing skills. What im getting at here is most classes have to reserve some abilities to ensure escaping but warriors with their low CD’s (TAO ranger elite is 120 secs CD with 20 sec duration compared to Warrior 60 Sec CD Elite with Swiftness buff that lasts 33 secs…) and high HP pool, receive minimal punishment and can escape faster than a light/med armor class.

At first I ignored it because I know in the past Warriors had some issues but this is just getting out of hand. It does not matter if I am on my Guardian, Ele, Ranger because I will still run into these warriors that drop all their weapon skills and if they notice I didn’t die and about to kill them they just run away and break any CC’s i put on them, making it impossible to catch up to them at times.

This is a short video I took just now while on my ranger, I started recording after this warrior was just running around in circles taunting us around the Keep for a while. Also notice the Asura supply burner with the SoR guild tag say in nearby chat that I won’t be able to catch the GS warrior.

wait! Different classes can do different things??? NERF THEM.

This is why whack-a-mole nerfing happens. Learn to deal with strengths and weaknesses or dont pvp/wvw.

Adding more mats, and not using current ones.

the kit usually defines the main weapon, and the build certainly does.
Can’t remember seeing a working HGH rifle build or a Static discharge build using pistols.

if the kits are the core of the damage, than some, like me, take the shield for utility. That leaves us with pistol main hand, willing or not…

There are pistol builds, just like rifle builds.
I don’t think one is more dominant than the other to be honest.

pistol-pistol = condition damage
shield -pistol = defensive
rifle = control first and often power-crit burst second

Speaking about PVE, there is no reason to be outside of a kit, really. So it’s still better to be p/p or p/s other than the occasional situation.

Wvw or spvp sure, but alot of these builds for PVE include rifle, it’s baffling.

I guess because the rifle is very power based w/ a knockback on a 15 sec cool down which is pretty good.

for wvw/spvp i guess… but its also a self CC, which is terrible unless you are 1v1ing.

Kit dmg isnt based on weapon damage, so to me its a bit odd all these players are using rifle, and losing out on that second sigil.

Jump shot also doesn’t do enough dmg to justify swapping out of a kit. (in pve at least)

FT needs less ticks, more base damage, less channel time (kind of lackluster for a channel/main source of dmg)

Grenades need reduced range, and be thrown to target (get rid of ground targeting)

Elixir gun needs more condi application, and change the sound clip for it please.

I dont agree with improving main hand skills, because kits are what an engi is based on. Main hand skills are utility, or cd pop then back to kit.

and most of all, FT and EG packs need to be LOWERED on the back, it currently sits on the back of my charrs neck.

As seen on the screenshot. Something that always bothers me when playing my engineer, is that as a Charr, our flamethrower pack, and Elixir gun pack sits on the top of our back, or back of our “neck”.

Can we lower it a bit and make it look a little more appropriate, like med/grenade/bomb/tool kits?

Flamethrower Solo-Farming viable?

When I’m FT farming, my build is usually Static Discharge with the rifle turret and goggles, I ether run might duration runes or runes of the eagle and I’ll equip Pistol/Shield with siglls of perception, get 25 stacks, and then equip my usual weapons with might stack sigils. I also use supply drop elite skill and healing turret. I tend to run Pistol/Shield for the reflects, interrupts and Pistol #2 skill for poison. Pistol #3 is great for blindness but the confusion doesn’t do that much since a lot of monsters don’t burn through their skills as quick as human opponents do.

the spec is 10/30/0/10/20 for:
incendiary powder/
vulnerability proc trait, juggernaut and whatever else u like/

invigorating speed/
speedy kits and static discharge.

to tell the truth SD’s okay but it’s better when your fighting monsters with 2 or more in close proximity because of the bounces for SD. This build isn’t as good at might stacking as HGH is, but if you use napalm well, the turret blast finishers in napalm’s fire field help you stack might quickly. at low-level monsters I wear full luck gear but for champs I swap out to berserker gear with the types of runes I mentioned earlier.

I also run healing turret and supply drop so I can tank a lot more easily if I’m fighting a champ or a few dumb PvE enemies at once. FT’s not as powerful as Grenade kit or bomb kit, but it’s great for procs with food buffs and tagging multiple enemies like in the lastest campaigns versus Scarlet. To tell the truth, Flamethrower and Elixir Gun complement each other well in tanking so maybe consider that If you’ve got a grudge against a champ, you get downed a lot in dungeons or u got a bunch of vets that won’t take no for an answer. Also, FT’s toolbelt skill is great to use right after a skirmish so when yo go to the next fight close by, it’s halfway done with cooldown. that way your opening attack can cause burning and you get extra base damage out of the flamethrower.

napalm explosion isnt a blast finisher.

Grenade questions

I think you are all misunderstanding the OP (or I am).

Grenades should auto attack and go to the target, like underwater grenade attacks, you just hit the attack, and you don’t have to ground target

They should reduce the range, and include grenade throw to target, rather than being thrown at the mouse reticle.

Other than that? I just hope they give us more weapons soon, and give us more unique, useful Elite Skills.

I’m afraid you have the wrong idea of what the engineer was designed for. Kits are our bread and butter, and to not use them would be against the grain of the class. I whole-heart-idly disagree with making the base weapons superior to kits or equal to.

I agree with the elite skills comment.. Our elite skills, especially with the current state of our alive-for-one-second turrets, mortar which is just plain horrible, and the random elixir x.
