Just return an empty string now for character guid. You can still use tradingpost-live.

Yeah, that’s how I got around to fixing it. Wasn’t a problem once I realized what was changed. I only posted it so that anyone else bumping into the issue would know why.

One other thing I noticed around a month or so ago was that you more or less have to use listings.json now in order to be sure that you’re getting the current highest buy order / lowest sell price of an item.

Example: http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/20853 — Shows 99g. Cheapest is actually 9g. (This is not a fast moving item). This might only be an issue with relatively new items on the trading post? I haven’t quite figured out what the deal is with it. I think this might have been an intentional change to speed up the Trading Post; there was a patch a month or so ago that made the trading post much more responsive.

It looks like they dropped the use of the “Character GUID.” When I run fiddler I no longer see the Character GUID being passed along with the session ID in the cookies section.

I looked into this because a program I made a few months ago was throwing an authorization error at me when I started it up today. It’s been a few weeks since I used it last.

The other change I noticed is that: tradingpost-live.ncplatform.net has been changed to: tradingpost-dfw-live.ncplatform.net.

Getting Into Blackgate/Jade Quarry

I think the server status is based on a formula using both “current accounts” and “current population online”. Let’s say it’s an average of both and 1k:low, 2k:medium, 3k:high, 4k:very high, 5k:full.

This most likely is the case. The blackouts have worked for transferring entire guilds. I very much doubt 500 people magically transfer off late at night at the same time as the ‘blackout’ is scheduled to happen.

PS: Just because someone works at ANet, doesn’t necessarily mean they have all the right answers or mean that they will tell you the whole truth.

If I get one of these, it’ll be sitting in my bank until (if ever) it gets fixed for asura. Especially considering almost every single character I have is Asura.

We need an Asura Dev to hijack some asuran technology and give these two items a little growth for our brethren.

Correct, if you use it’s active, it does not heal you until it comes back off of CD.

New Healing Signet

in Mesmer

Rand.3186

My experience in sPvP has been that it’s “ok” but not great.

For my Phantasm build (20/25/0/25/0), I feel Ether Feast is a better choice after switching back and forth between these.

My reasoning is that with Mender’s Purity, you get a potential two condi removals every 20 seconds. With a 20 sec CD, being rather small, I can choose between the heal or condi removal if necessary, or both at the same time! The Signet on the other hand I feel guilty for using, because then I’m left without a heal for 35 seconds, unless I trait for it.

Math wise, 60 second match:

(NOTE: This is assuming you are 20/25/0/25/0 — and that you are getting 250 healing power from Inspiration. The numbers will be slightly different but the results should still be the same.)

Ether Signet, 20 sec CD: 60 sec / 20 sec == 3 uses in 60 seconds. Up to 6 condis removed.

Uses * ( Base health + (health per clone * three clones ) ) = Total HP healed over 60sec.
3 * ( 5870+(671*3) ) == 23,649

For the Signet, never using it’s active once:

60 seconds / 3 secs per tick == 20 total ticks in 60 seconds.
3 Illusions == 1,019 health per tick.

20 * 1019 == 20,380

Lets say we make that 19 ticks, and use the Signet heal at 57 seconds in.

19 * 1019 == 19361 + Base heal of 5824 == 25,185

Lets say you use it at 30 seconds into the fight. That means you only get
10 * 1019 == 10,190 + Base Heal of 5824 == 16,014

That math, shows that the only time you can ever possibly get more health with the Signet, is if you use it JUST before the end of the fight. Where the cooldown will not count against you. If you use it in the middle of a 60 second fight, then you take a massive hit.

If I made any mistakes, feel free to let me know.

I don’t feel it’s a bad choice, and might work really well with PU builds. But I feel like it requires you to pick up Signet reduction trait for it to really hold it’s weight.

AFK players being pushed into Solo Queue

Someone please explain to me why we have a system that forces everyone into a game, without checking to see if the player is even at his computer?

I’ve had multiple games just this morning where the last player is “forced” into joining, then sits there (no talking/moving), until he/she gets disconnected from the game. Leaving us to 4v5 the entire match.

This should be an easy fix. I take no pleasure in beating a team that has less than five players. I definitely don’t take any pleasure in being on a team that has less than five players. So please, for the good of the community… PLEASE add some AFK check before you FORCE everyone into a game. I rather not play a match at all, then be stuck in a match that’s a handicap.

If I wanted 4v5s, I’d play hotjoins.

Disconnecting when entering dungeons

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Rand.3186

This ‘bug’ just happend to me as well.

I’ll be as detailed as possible with what all happend, just in case any of this helps the developers in finding this bug.

I’ll start off with a leadup of my activities for the day, so that maybe we can find some type of common ground:

I joined someone’s party that was on an overflow for Tequatl while I was in Lion’s Arch. They removed me from party while I was loading into Sparkfly Fen (I assume because it showed me on overflow). I’m on the right overflow, everythings good. 30 minutes of waiting and the game crashes. Thankfully I join someones party and get right back into the same overflow. Eventually I leave party to invite someone else into my party so that they can try to get onto my overflow.

I go back to Lion’s Arch. Chill for an hour. Then the person I invited suggests we go do a few easy dungeons. This is where the road gets bumpy. I go over to Fireheart Rise to join them in the dungeon, and immediately get disconnected within 2 seconds of seeing the “Citadel of Flame” loading screen — with the same disconnection message everyone else has posted here.

I try around four more times all of which are disconnects. (In the same pattern as others have mentioned. First dc is the dungeon, then the next dc is the normal map when trying to load back in. This repeats itself.)

So I decide, hey, maybe I should guest onto the server that they are on (Blackgate). To my astonishment, it says that I am guested to TWO servers already. Neither of which are Jade Quarry — which was the LAST server I guested to, almost 24 hours ago from now.

So there is at least one if not two bugs going on. One that does not let you connect, and another that tries to force you to guest onto a specific server. -_-

This started with the recent update. Something was changed that’s creating quite a few problems with lag.

I’ve been witnessing a ton of lag with abilities in WvW lately.
I just witnessed a ton of lag during my Tequatl fight just a few minutes ago, the timers were completely messed up on the battery phases — Teq landing with 20 seconds supposedly remaining on the battery phase. Skills while fighting teq being lagged — pressing Heal numerous times and it not triggering/being used.

The only posts here that bother me are Dogs. Why on earth do you keep comparing your elementalist to mesmer?

I have a fully decked out ele too. I think it’s completely kitten that I can stack up two minutes worth of swiftness just by running around and using a few select spells in my different attunements. Not to mention you can ride the lightning, flash, and if need be use magnetic grasp to juke someone out. Slowness debuff isnt a problem, plenty of condition removal. Eles have it better than most. As a side note, I fear no one on my ele..

Ele is the only class that is more mobile than my thief.

Stop worrying about who has the best get away. Who can run fast out of combat should not be a kitten contest.

Q: Streaming Guild Wars 2. Revenue?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Rand.3186

I edited my above post…

Also twitch would never shut down partnered streams making revenue (twitch gets some of that money to so they would be taking money out there own pockets) unless there were copyright issues or other Twitch TOS violations. Anet cant pull the plug n another sites service.
Also in order to make revenue off games on twitch you gotta be partnered….getting partnership status pulled and having your channel shut down is pretty serious and I highly doubt it would happen unless the caster is playing naughty videos or something side by side to GW2 …which may get more viewers imo…lol

to answer your question..its bizarre and sounds like garbage.

I’m aware of the partnership requirements and what not. I hadn’t intended on being partnered. I got a full time job, so I’m not concerned about making revenue off streaming. I was just fishing around to see if there were any official statements made to that end. Doesn’t seem to be, though.

^ this made me laugh

However, people have been making money off streaming games on twitch.tv for a long time now. Some casters make a living doing this. Some are breaking the 100K a year mark through add revenue and subscribers on their twitch channel (via twitch partnership).

Many people think they can jump on twitch and make a quick buck…not happening. Gotta build the fanbase, have entertaining and HIGH Quality cast you can actually see (720p preferably 1080p). Also spending money on a high quality broadcaster software like x-split and having a computer that can encode and capture high quality is also needed.

However…GW2 maybe has 200 – 300 average viewers out of the few hundred thousand people that use twitch…soooo you/or whoever are not gonna make anything streaming only GW2 lol. Most the big name casters quite streaming GW2 months ago and went back to their normal games like wow, LoL etc etc So to answer your question…I dont know why Anet would even bother closing those streaming sites and then again twitch TV wouldn’t do it unless they were copyrighting GW2 which we all know is a waste of time since its an online game.

You assume I am referring to myself. I’m not. I stream from time to time, yes, but mostly for a select group of friends.

The reason I made this thread is due to a discussion I had with someone else, and he/she brought up that he/she heard rumors of streams making revenue being closed down.

I decided to post here and ask, as that sounds a tad bizarre to me. Personally, I hope to see more streamers for Guild Wars 2. I also watch streams on break while I’m at work.

So, you think it’s ok to make money with someone else’s products?

ArenaNet stated they wanted the game to be an eSport.

Other eSports, such as the highly acclaimed League of Legends, and numerous other recognizable games like Starcraft, Starcraft II, Heroes of Newerth, World of Warcraft, and a plethora of others, all encourage people to stream their game play and create youtube videos. This works to draw more people into the games.

There are people on twitch/own3d that stream League of Legends, and they have 10k+ viewers.

PS: If it wasn’t for Angry Joe’s Guild Wars 2 review on youtube (a thirty minute video featuring a load of GW2 gaming footage), I wouldn’t have bought this game for me and two other friends. :P

Wasn’t sure where I should place this thread… Please move it if it doesn’t belong here. With that said, onto the main question:

I heard somewhere that ANet will shut down your stream (IE: Twitch TV / Own3D) if you have enough viewers to make revenue off of it?

I’d like to believe this isn’t true, as it’d harm the game from picking up any real eSport status. Furthermore it’s also a form of free advertisement.

Anyone have any word on this? Or could I get an official statement?

I’m sorry that you’re not able to play on Christmas. But I make no apologies for the suspension, because honestly, it was the right thing to do.

We happen to slightly disagree when it comes to how to moderate a chat then. I do not pretend that what I said was acceptable to shout out at the top of my lungs in a public place (Theater/Diner/Etc that you mentioned). I’m not saying that at all.

However where exactly do you draw the line? It’s acceptable to ban paying customers without a single warning? Are you looking to lose money?

I’ll be clear here: I’m not going to make that mistake again. I’m not going to bother doing much chatting in GW2 in map chat after this. Why risk my account when some fellow will report me for offending him for nearly any reason imagineable? Don’t say that doesn’t happen. It does. You got a guy from germany in this thread that was banned for just stating an opinion. That’s really messed up. “Ban first. Don’t ask questions. Make them send in a support ticket.” It’s just so easy to click that ban button, I guess.

I don’t really like the fact that you used children as an example, as I don’t feel children should really be playing the game.

(Plenty of killing players, monsters, humans, goats, destroying sacred areas to specific races/cultures, beating down would-be gods, and basically erradicating an entire spieces of bugs (karka.))

I am totally at fault for strong language and crude humor. My bad.

Edit: I’m not meaning to pick a fight or anything. Honestly, I’m normally levelling right now and having a blast, but for a single “inappropriate remark” I’m banned for a solid 3 days. I do thank you guys for making a truly great game. I’m just venting a bit as you guys sort of snatched up my fun for the next few days.

Edit2: I also didn’t mean your rules needed a -legal- review. I just didn’t see anywhere where it said you’re basically not allowed to say anything at all that could even be remotely suggestive. I must have overlooked it somehow when browsing through the rules of conduct….

My offensive line would have been censored for anyone that kept their swear filter on. Why give us the option to turn it on or off if we will simply be banned for using any sort of “dirty” word? I rather not delve into the realms of what people find offensive, because in my -12 years of online gaming- I’ve seen people report other people for the most petty of reasons. I’ve kept a pretty clean slate when it comes to gaming, and, in these 12 years, this is the first time I’ve ever been banned.

Secondly, Gaile, I recommend you contact whichever legal department you have that handles your Rules of Conduct, and possibly nudge them towards including a few extra lines in it that say something along the lines of “You are not allowed to refer to any part of your body around your hips or chest in any sort of manner that is even remotely suggestive.”

What I said was something that was ultra rare for me to ever type — usually it’s on voice with several friends and we all joke about things like that. It’s not everyones cup of tea. I get that. I sent in a support ticket yesterday attempting to get the ban lifted, acknowledging it’s something I shouldn’t have said in the open and that I had no idea you guys were so strict and gave zero warnings before proceeding with a ban.

Edit:

I was playing with my RL brother when I got banned. You know what we had to do? We had to go play League of Legends together instead. I’m the one that got him into the GW2, along with several other friends that I convinced to purchase the game. I’m still talking friends into getting GW2.

My point here is that there should be some type of warning saying “Hey, what you said isn’t cool. You’ll be banned if it continues.” It’s poor form to ban without any sort of warning whatsoever.

Can you honestly tell me face to face, that you disagree with that? As someone who moderates IRC channels and someone that’s GM’ed a few small private games in the past.. I’ve never just flat out banned someone without talking to them first.

Oh, and as far as what could be done to improve the gaming community in general? Check out League of Legend’s “Tribunal” you might find that interesting.

Sucks to be banned for Christmas Eve + Christmas + Day after christmas. Kinda wish I didn’t buy $20 in gems just the other day.

I am assuming I just got banned for making a silly joke about my asura’s dong “being so hard right now” aka: Inflated kitten after killing a bunch of players in WvW.

Would have been nice to get some sort of message, asking me to refrain from whatever it is that I guess was so absurdly offensive to someone. Rather than banning me for Christmas Eve, Christmas, and the day after Christmas…. -_-

Guess I shouldn’t have spent $20 in gems the other day. GG.

how to counter thieves

in WvW

Posted by: Rand.3186

Rand.3186

You know, all I’m really seeing on this thread is: This thief backstabbed me. He got away. He should never be able to get away. If he backstabs me, and doesn’t kill me, then I should be able to kill him. It’s not fair that a class that has 11k HP with high burst can get away. I want to kill it.

Thieves that do a lot of burst? Those are the ones that are wearing FULL berserker gear with NO survivability from traits or gear.

I’m tired of seeing posts saying: “They remove conditions in stealth! They stealth for 90% of the time! They backstab me for 23042304 health! They are super mobile! They have high AoE damage!”

I’m sorry, but you are poorly informed if you think a thief is capable of doing -all- of that in one trait build. Thieves give up damage to remove conditions in stealth (chances are they won’t be able to burst you down). For extra mobility? Guess again, they can’t use the typical full glass cannon trait spec there either.

High AoE Damage? Er, well, there’s two types of AoE damage builds one uses the Short Bow and allows them to keep their burst — however you can see a cluster bomb coming from a mile away, and I’m pretty sure no thief is going to try to spam cluster bombs standing on top of you. The other way is to go the condition damage route — again, they aren’t going to kill you in a single burst. Either.

You want to kill a thief? Force him into Shadow Refuge and use a knockback effect to push him out of it. Blindly swing your weapon.

Most of you complain about stealth and stealth only. I will tell you this though: If you remove a thieves mobility and stealth, you will have just removed a class from the game. They simply can NOT build tanky and have burst at the same time. There’s no point in playing a ‘tank thief’. You’d be better off rolling a D/D Ele.

Edit: To reiterate, a thief right now has to pick his battles carefully to have any sort of success. All it takes is two back to back CC’s and the thief is probably going to die.

Have you looked at PvE lately? I don’t know about you, but most people rather bring something -other- than a thief, as Thieves are just.. better for supporting a group rather than being the “high damage pillar of the group.” High damage + survivability? Bring warriors and eles.
