Hey all, I was just wandering around at night and the idea of having the Sylvari racial armor glow popped into my head. I come to the forums, and lo and behold, it does! Or… should. I have the T1 light armor (Snapdragon) on a Sylvari female – I LOVE how it looks, and it shows a lot of the body glow… should the armor have glow too? Is it a graphical glitch? Or does this armor just not glow? If not, I would REALLY love a little glow on it.
Edit: I’ve found video of T2 light armor glowing… now I REALLY wish the T1 light armor glowed (with the same color as the character, that would be nice). I like the T1 much better than the others.

A wonderful idea! I look forward to your videos.
Also, I’m not sure how armor and the shield block stat work, but I do know toughness multiplies armor, and 1 vitality = 10 hp.
And as to the difficulty of explorables, I haven’t done too many of them (AC explore, CM explore, and arah explore) and I must say Arah>AC>CM by FAR. Arah was extremely difficult (only a tad buggy, I think? The Seer path grenth fight kept going back to full HP) and I do NOT plan on going back there without a dedicated, organized group. I haven’t tried AC in a while, and I just did CM, and it was a joke. Lots of fun, but seriously, a joke.
So, I JUST saw the Arah armor pieces (I didn’t have time last time I went looking at the dungeon armor) and WOW. It’s a little bit skimpy, but it’s only like, half skimpy as compared to the barbarian and gladiator gear. Not sure I like the chest piece (how the opening for your head is like… a zombie fish mouth. Yeah, GG art directors. That’s creepy as kitten), but the rest of the armor is… awesome.
Here are some suggestions aside from the Vigil armor or transmuting your old set. ^^
1. Level 80 crafted set — believe it is called Draconic (exotic?), and it definitely doesn’t have that “metal bikini” style going on.
2. Cultural sets – any tier for human, or tier 1 for Norn (personally I think the tier 2 human set looks awesome).
3. Different lower level sets — the tier 3/4 crafted sets offer good coverage and look pretty great IMHO! I also noticed a karma set on one of the Diessa Plateau heart vendors looks very practical and full covereage. Heck, you may have been wearing one of those, but looking at the armor galleries there seem to be quite a few options that aren’t skimpy.

Ah, you know, I saw a pic of the Draconic armor on the internet, and they must have been using a gladiator chest piece, and I was disappointed. But it looks like this is the real one. I’ll try for that :P
With the cultural armor, that’s what I was talking about with the karma farming. The sets cost WAY too much! And what I was saying is that I transmuted some lower level armor to be my main armor, so I already did that :P I think I’ll go for the draconic. Thanks! I wasn’t gonna go for that because of the incorrect pic I saw.
I know! I’m not a sylvari though!
And as I said, that’s way too much karma. That would be a long-term goal.
So, having hit 80 a few days ago, I’ve been catching up on the last 4 levels of my story, and purchasing / trying to find some new gear, as I’ve used transmutation stones to keep my character looking pretty much the same for the past 40 or so levels.
When completing the story mode quests, I was very surprised by the preview of the armor choices. It was either fishnetty tube top + mini skirt, strappy barbarian princess outfit, or mini Big O (seriously, that chest plate is… bad). I’ve been able to keep my character very sensibly armored, and being a Guardian, armor is fairly important – we’re supposed to be the toughest profession in the game.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not here to debate the morality of having big-breasted warriors with big swords in tiny metal bikinis. I mean, I get it. I’m a guy on a female character, so at least 1/3 of my brain is going “Hey, that armor doesn’t look half bad!” But that’s not why I made this character. So anyway, when I bought some rare armor and equipped it to see what it looked like, I was REALLY surprised to see it look exactly the same.
I now have a few options:
1) Run around looking like a fetish model all the time. (I might have some healing armor with this look so I only wear it in dungeons; but my character doesn’t have the figure [read: huge boobs] to really make the armor pop.)
2) Farm karma for some karma gear. (NOPE, karma stuff is way too expensive)
3) Buy Vigil armor (which I don’t have the money for at the moment, but I’m saving up for) and transmute.
4) Run dungeons for dungeon armor (which I just found out they made kinda viable)
5) Transmute my lower level armor so my higher level armor looks like it. (Which I’ve done, but it would be nice to have some armor to set me apart, visually, from lower levels.)
1 and 2 are thrown out immediately, and 4 is slightly viable, but would take a lot of time.
So I’m left with 2 options. Which really disappoints me. Anyone else feel the same way? Am I missing something? Any differing opinions?
‘Minimalist’ armor. More like minimalist ‘armor’. Seriously, who would wear that into battle?
Yeah, switching those or something would be great :P
It’s not entirely thankless. The people we help do appreciate it, because while our heals may not be of a true ‘healer’ status, we can still pull off some pretty clutch heals and utility things.
Not always. What I find is that when a group does poorly, the healers/support are usually the first blamed. When a group does well, the damage dealers are usually the first to be praised.
What’s worse is that healers/support don’t get any loot from combat.
I do entirely agree with the no loot/credit thing, and have found it very hard to do WvWvW. I can’t just waltz in there with my greatsword – I might get a group of people to half health, then they all turn on me and I DIE and have to walk back for 15 minutes. Scepter + torch works okay for me as a ranged weapon. It’s not as great as an engineer might have, but it’s okay. Staff, as has been previously stated, is for support only, which I love doing, but I just don’t get any credit for it in WvWvW. In sPvP, I can support, so long as I stand in the right place. So, I just don’t do WvWvW on my guardian anymore, which I wish I could do. (I have other complaints about WvWvW, but those aren’t very important in this matter).
But I have never been blamed for not healing enough or something, in any WvWvW, sPvP, or dungeon. Whenever bad things happen, most people tend to agree that either we’re all (or most of us) at fault, or there’s one or two people at fault, but not because they weren’t healing enough. Maybe they walked into an attack they shouldn’t have, or something.
I feel the crap range worst in WvW. While we are totally awesome out in the open feild where we can force a fight, much of WvW centers around the keep fights. We do have a role in those, but it is the completely thankless job of support. We don’t get kill credit, XP or loot for buffing our buddies or keeping Wall of Reflection up so the assault can advance, we don’t get rewarded for protecting the rangers and eles on the wall so they can rain death down…
Honestly, whenever a keep gets involved, I tell my team to SAVE THEMSELVES and run for a seige weapon so I can actually feel like I’m doing something worthwhile. There’s a problem there.
I so Agree with this our support is so thankless and we get no reward for helping our team rake up kills
It’s not entirely thankless. The people we help do appreciate it, because while our heals may not be of a true ‘healer’ status, we can still pull off some pretty clutch heals and utility things.
Sanctuary does not suffer from the issue of rolling through bubbles, but it does suffer from people just walking right into the bubble, and even attacking through it (which seems counter-intuitive. If people could attack through it, it wouldn’t be a bubble, it would just be another ring of warding.
- Sanctuary sometimes doesn’t work on some people, enabling them to shoot and walk through it.
This, a million times this. There have been many instances where I pop sanctuary, try to revive a person, and a mob or two just runs right into the bubble and kills me. Also, I’ve popped sanctuary in PvP while standing still (so I’m in the middle of the bubble) and people stand on the outside of the bubble and attack me, killing me.
That’s not much of a sanctuary, is it?
