I have a question. We already kill Zaithan and Mordy, right? So Why their minions still on tyria? Shouldn’t they died yet?

Two reasons:

First off, the death of an Elder Dragon does not mean the death of its minions. Both Tequatl’s power boost and Arah explorable happen post-Zhaitan’s death. So not only do they remain around, but they have a chance of absorbing the lost magic of their dragon to become stronger.

Second off, as we see in those two aforementioned cases, dragon minions can continue to spread corruption, it’s merely at a far inferior rate.

Basically speaking, killing Elder Dragons doesn’t remove the threat, it just reduces the threat greatly. However, they’re also a lot less coordinated – with no head to lead them, they’re basically acting on the final orders they were given.

This is a bit more interesting with the Mordrem Guard since they weren’t corrupted traditionally but functioned on continuous orders – and as Rox said, now that their master’s voice is gone they’re erratic.

Furthermore, maps are frozen in time except where in those maps they’re influenced by LW stuff (where they become frozen in that release’s time), so when we go to Straits of Devastation, we’re still seeing pre-Zhaitan’s death events.

This is one of my biggest caveats with Caithe’s “doing so may kill the sylvari race but Mordremoth must die” proclamations, since she knows dragon minions don’t die if the Elder Dragons do (see Zhaitan).

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

I have a question. We already kill Zaithan and Mordy, right? So Why their minions still on tyria? Shouldn’t they died yet?

It doesn’t work like that. We’ve seen several events with the risen after Zhaitan’s death (the Arah explorable paths, and Tequatl’s power boost in LS1) that show they’re carrying on more or less exactly as before, and there’s a line in the latest LS episode that the mordrem are still all over the place, and if anything, even more violent.

The minions don’t rely on the dragons to exist. They only need them to give direction. Think of it like a ruler and their army- just because the ruler dies doesn’t mean the troops all die too. What it does mean is the troops can’t receive new orders, or function as an organized whole anymore.

6th playable race, what's your top 3 pick?

in Lore

In response to others (because I love dashing hopes):

Harpies – highly unlikely. Firstly, I think it was outright stated that GW2 won’t have flying, though I may be wrong on this. Secondly, all harpies are female, and since they went through the trouble of giving sylvari genders… Thirdly, they’re a very – and I mean very – primitive race.

Centaurs – Anet outright stated early on that they wanted centaurs to be a “black race” (aka evil with few redeeming qualities), and given the model I just don’t see them making it worth the hassle for armor.

Hylek, Skritt, Ogres, and Quaggans – won’t happen. Ever. Why? Racial sympathy, that’s why. Same goes for grawl which haven’t been mentioned yet.

Dwarves – they’re pretty much extinct. They won’t return as a playable race, most likely. Maybe as NPCs, but even that’s questionable in the long run.

Kodan – they seem unlikely given the lack of customization abilities in appearance. Charr have leopard patterns, tiger patterns, Siamese cat patterns, plain patterns, etc. Kodan? They have white, white, and more white. Polar bear people is very limited.

Undead (joko’s or otherwise) – possible, but they’re not really a race. I mean, Joko turns any race into an undead, so the variety is too great to make a playable race out of, both due to being too complex (they’d have to share animations with other races, which breaks the “each race have their own unique animations,” or multiple undead versions of races will share animations, which will just look silly) and due to how NPCs can have even greater variety (in GW1, you got human, centaur, giant, and seemingly charr undead in Joko’s army – in GW2, it can easily spread to heket and harpy, even perhaps ogre).

Now then, my opinions and why:

Tengu – their GW2 models share postures with charr, meaning that they can easily use charr armor designs just as sylvari and human share such. It is said in the Making of Guild Wars 2 book from the CE that the tengu were originally a candidate for a playable race, with the Dominion of Winds to be their starter city, but were cut – however, ANet still views them as a race with future potential. At the end of the personal story, one tengu who joined the Pact says he’ll take news of other races’ abilities to his people, and other tengu say they’re evaluating the races to determine who are their allies and who are their enemies.

Tengu also have among the largest lore established of GW1 races outside humans (even more than there was lore for charr in GW1, and on par to dwarves). In GW2, they also have four houses – similar to how charr have four legions, asura have three colleges, and humans have three social statuses. They can easily be added in any sort of future expansion – be it related to Cantha, or something else in Tyria.

Largos – though not a lot known on them, they seem to be presented in a similar manner as sylvari were, except using the game as the medium of introduction, rather than articles like The Movement of the World. Furthermore, they can easily share human/sylvari armor models with minimal alterations (if any) due to the placement of the wings, at the nape of the neck. And similar to the tengu, there’s a largos who said she’s going to tell her people word of the Pact’s accomplishments against Zhaitan – and its heavily implied they’re fighting the deep sea dragon, so at the very least they will be playing a bigger role. They can easily be added in an Unending Ocean expansion dealing with the Deep Sea Dragon.

I cannot really see a third race as a possibility – kodan come closest, but their lack of customization bothers me though they can still be added into a Far Shiverpeaks expansion, with a large Sanctuary somewhere in that in-land sea that Jormag made as a home city. Naga are also close, if there’s ever a Canthan expansion, but their lack of legs is harmful to their chances and if there’s a Canthan expansion I suspect tengu to be more likely, despite their lack of modern influence with Cantha.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

Hello everyone and Arena Net,

Gw2 is in major need of profession lore. The game jus feels so empty without it. Especially how the Revenant was implemented into the game.

Whatever happened to the Mesmer Collective? Why do we have elite specs now? Who was the first of each elite specilization. Come on Anet this is sad. We need LORE for
Or each profession, and not material from Guild Wars 1.

I keep hearing the French name sounds cool. What is it in French?

It is Draconnier.

Not everybody will like how it sounds I guess, just a matter of personal taste.
But at least there are two good things about this one :
- It doesn’t have the “Hunter” part. It’s still related to dragons but in a very vague way. Also it is closer to the already existing names that are only made with one word.
- It’s not even a real word ! (Dragonnier is a word, but it refers to dragon tamers or dragon riders) Which means we can consider it as something that is specific to Tyria, a quite unique archetype that you can mold (more or less) into something that makes sense for GW2.

The name also feels very disassociated from the core concepts of the ‘guardian’ profession. Why is the ‘guardian’ even being imagined as a ‘big game hunter’ in the first place?

Because its NOT A GUARDIAN?

Fundamental issues here. New profession icon. New weapon. New utility skill set. If you choose to you can make your entire skill tray have ZERO overlap with any guardian ever.

It’s not the same profession and that they’ve come up with something people think is so far from the base by swapping 1/3 of their trait lines that is a monumental resounding success in design.

Just think it this way: You choose guardian because you like the theme, you like the set of skills and traits and it’s gameplay.
Now they give you a new spec that share nothing with the old spec. That could be ok if they new spec wouldn’t exists before in the game. But Why would i choose a dragonhunter when i have the class ranger that offers the same and can be upgraded to other spec?

I really like “Sentinel”. Anyway, many suggestions listed here are better than Dragonhunter. We as Guardians will be protecting outpost from Mordrem attacks and we will be able to use Bow to take out enemies from the distance and use traps to slow them down or just to make sure they won’t reach outpost and destroy it. In this perspective I don’t see reason to name this spec “Dragonhunter”. Every character’s goal in the end is to kill/defeat Elder Dragons, right? I haven’t seen any other dragons around to hunt down. Please consider changing the name of this spec to the name that has sense taking into consideration class mechanic, lore and it’s role in upcoming expansion.

Is there anyway that we could an option in the inventory to remove the pop up box when trying to salvage rares. It takes an exorbitant amount of time to salvage any amount of rares between clicking 3 times per rare and moving the mouse back and forth to the salvage kit. For anyone else annoyed with this a temporary work around I’ve found is to type “rare” into my inventory search bar and center the top of my inventory near the center of my screen to minimize travel between clicks. Thanks

Hero Points & old characters: breach of trust

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Face.4216

Face.4216

Has ANet said or hinted at whether or not we’re going to have to unlock all our skills again in the new system? I know we’re going to get 400 points flat from leveling, but they also said that unlocking everything costs 465, and I don’t even think that number includes the Elite Spec line.

I’ve spent tons of skill points and gold to unlock all my skills and traits on the majority of my characters, but I only have a big chunk of world completion on 1 out of all 9 of them. If I log in on patch day and suddenly I’ve got to go out and grind Hero Challenges just to make sure I can have everything again… I’m probably going to leave the game, because you’ll have robbed me of skills and traits I’ve had for literal years in this game and given me only one very slow, very boring way to get it back. I’m not doing 65 (or more) challenges each across 8 characters simply to get stuff back that I’ve earned previously.

I shouldn’t be stuck doing PvE so I can have 100% of the options available to me in WvW, which is the only gamemode I play aside from SPvP. Either preserve the skills of legacy characters, or introduce another way to get Hero Points that isn’t so lopsided. ANet has seriously overestimated how engaging skill challenges are for players; it’s like their heads are in the sand with regards to the quality (or lack thereof) of their PvE content. And please: do not even try to pass it off like Skill Challenges in WvW are “WvW content”. Right now I can buy every skill and trait in the game with the XP and loot I get from kills and captures in WvW. After this patch, I won’t be able to. That’s broken.

I’m okay with using the new system on the Revenant, obviously, and any characters I might make after the patch, and for the Elite Specialization track, but I would sincerely hope that ANet will take the same route as they did last time and allow legacy characters to keep what they have. And if not, at least compensate us for the money we’ve spent buying skill books from trainers. I know I personally have dropped upwards of 30 gold buying Master and Grandmaster traits since the last change. To have that large amount of gold be gone forever simply because your first redesign of the trait system was a failure would be massively insulting.

And honestly, how long do you think it’s going to be before ANet is going to be designing yet another system for trait/skill unlocks because this one winds up being just as off-putting as the last time? This one will probably have an even shorter lifespan, as there’s not even a way to bypass the PvE nonsense this time, since Hero Points are earned “strictly” through leveling and Hero Challenges. You’re removing the ability to earn Skill/Hero Points when you level past 80, you’re removing the ability to buy traits with gold… this game is becoming so narrow and it’s making me sad.

Why is 14% (65/465) of a character’s functionality walled off behind Hero Challenges, when doing Skill Challenges now is basically grunt work you do for map completion, and doesn’t require any skill at all? A third of these challenges are just standing in one place with your arm outstretched, “communing”… how is that “heroic” at all? You must’ve seriously drank the PvE Kool-Aid if you think that something so trivial should be so strongly tied to a character’s functionality.

For what it’s worth, I do like the trait changes that are being made… but you’re killing experimentation by walling everything off into reward tracks, and forcing Skills and Traits to compete for the same limited currency, where there was no limit to said currency before.

Honestly, I’m probably so pathetic that I wouldn’t stop playing even if I log in and I’ve got to spend a week grinding out enough Hero Points to get back to where I was… but this all just reeks of a bad idea that hasn’t had nearly enough thought put into it.

What was so wrong with getting skill currency every time you re-leveled to 80? What was so wrong with just buying traits from the trainers, or, if you go way back, not having to unlock traits at all? You’re undermining player progression, and the game itself, by layering on new forms of artificial progression where they don’t need to be.

These are just my two cents, take them or leave them. If legacy characters get to keep their skills, or if a new, non-PvE-exclusive way to get Hero Points is introduced, then there’s much less of an issue I think. I obviously don’t think the HP system is particularly good, but I’d be happy simply not to have my previous progress erased by 14%. Definitely want to hear back on that point especially.

Tier 4 Cultural armor

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Lily.1935

Lily.1935

Kinda a suggestion. Cultural armor is one of those really cool ideas in GW2 that was poorly executed in my opinion. A gold sink to get this cool armor that doesn’t have allot of prestige. I’d like to see new tiers of cultural added to the game to help diversify the races a bit more by giving players more of a reason to play as each of the races.

T4 cultural should be quested for not bought. You guys have presented us with a cool idea of questing and crafting for precursors and even did so for the Luminescent armor. So why not for cultural? Another idea is make it a unique quest for each race. It should reflect each of the race’s culture and you should have to do something different for a charr or a human. Although i’d like unique quests for each armor tier as well as each race that might not be reasonable. But I would like to be able to have a greater connection to my chosen race and feel distinctly different from others through questing and crafting this prestigious armor.

I’m not sure if this is the right forum for this, but I thought I’d express my absolute disgust about Season 2.

I have had to take a leave of absence from the game for personal reasons. Eventually other things distracted me. I heard today about Heart of Thorns. That kicked my interest back up for the game, and I was curious about playing again. I also heard that Living World Season 2 content was actually good and much more story driven, unlike Season 1.

So… let me get this straight, ANet. I’m being penalized because I had personal issues keeping me from the game, and being made to PAY for content that everyone else got for free. If I want to see what I missed, I need to pay 200 gems PER CHAPTER.

This feels like a terrible way to encourage people to come back to the game.

I’ve never been one to rant at a company… or complain, and honestly, my GW2 experience has been great. bought a lot of character slots, have some cosmetic gear. The game experience has been fun, but stuff just happened to draw me away from the game.

This… this just feels like ANet is actively discouraging anyone that stopped playing the game for any lenght of time, from coming back. And has me honestly disinclined to be interested in the expansion.
