So i’ve been thinking for a while about why it is so many thieves rely so much more on stealth then they do their agility… maybe people think it’s more reliable than being able to dodge a bit more than other classes? i’m saying this because i think that our evading should be just as good as our stealthing. Sometimes i feel like it’s really not enough to counter certain things… Let’s say conditions. More often than not, i’ve fallen over because i had a billion seconds of burning and poison, but i choose to use withdraw for my healing skill… whereas hide in shadows removes all damaging conditions except confusion, but even then most people have the trait that removes other conditions in stealth once every 3 seconds.
Well could we maybe have a trait being like a stop drop and roll that removes burning on a roll? (either a regular evade or on withdraw or roll for initiative with an internal cooldown). Also another idea could be to manually roll forward when you fall from high enough to take fall damage and nullify it at the cost of endurance? if you don’t have endurance you take fall damage… Call it tuck and roll or graceful fall or something… Basically i think it would make more sense if we had some defenses in this trait line (defenses that would actually be worth taking) and not HAVE to go into the stealth trait line for better defense… traits like pain response or fleet of foot i feel are not very strong and are normally a waste to take them, unless y’know… we got protection from pain response, then it might be worth taking?
What do you guys think about suggestions like these? would they work? or would it just be a waste? Feel free to add on suggestions that could be put into the acrobatics trait line.
Also… did anyone else notice that withdraw rolls you farther away when you have swiftness or some speed increase? :o
i will always and forever love the quick and sneaky character in any game that i play. Ever since my first ps1 game final fantasy 9 (main character in that game is thief-ish) i couldn’t get enough of the way he fought… he was quick, sly, cunning, very acrobatic… no one could touch him, and what he loved was treasure.
After that, the ninja/rogue/assassin type class has always been my character. Played WoW for a while as a rogue for about 4 years or so, then moved on to guild wars 2 and fell in love with the thief and the way it plays. Love being able to dodge all over the place and slip away from enemies, while picking off the ones that are alone… plus stealing items is pretty awesome!
(though some stolen items from players could be better…) :P
Hi everyone. So i thought i would record some footage of me playing my thief
and submit it to the forums for some feedback on how i could improve. This video
is in no way to show skill, it’s only for entertainment and feedback purposes…
What do you guys think? Is there anything i could improve on around that playstyle?
Were there mistakes that i made during the video i could have done better with?
Should i make more actual videos (music and editing) using that kind of build?
Let me know by posting what you think.

Do you guys have a theme song that plays when you jump into action? I always thought my thief needed a theme when fighting or running around… makes me feel much more awesome, and if the song fits, you feel like you can play 1000 times better.
Does anyone else have a theme song for their thief? post the name of the song or a link to listen to it! It can be from any kind of music like artist songs to movie and video game soundtracks and so on.
I’ll start! Here’s my theme for my thief:

Hi, so i’m a regular structured pvp thief and pvp almost every day.
lately i’ve been wondering why is it i cannot seem to do anything useful in matches.
Even in hotjoins and free tournaments, i feel like dead weight. Now i’m only rank 36, and i feel like i have some experience playing thief, trying out every weapon set and builds and such…
but basically i want to be able to make myself useful for my teammates in matches…
and what i’ve noticed in a lot of tournaments when i play and watch streams, every
thief is the same 10/30/30/0/0 build or playing some kind of build that revolves around mug and shadow’s rejuvination with burst damage… it’s really depressing to see because i’m trying to avoid the whole glass cannon 1 shot backstab double dagger build.
should i just be sucked into that hole and go with the flow like everyone else?
…this thread looks like it’s only been about people crying about the thief’s stealth ability… wasn’t it supposed to be about suggestions about what could be done to improve the class? And suggestions that aren’t completely ridiculous?
all these posts are starting to sound the same… stealth, stealth, stealth…culling culling culling…
Did anyone else realize that its not the ONLY defense we have? Did people forget that we can be evading maniacs? i mean come on… we’re about speed too, not just hiding from people all the time. it’s what makes a thief a thief, we’re fast, twitchy, steal your belongings when you aren’t paying attention, hard to catch S.O.Bs… not just dumb wandering assassins…
instead of a greatsword… why not a lighter katana we hold with 2 hands? it wouldn’t hinder thief mobility and it would have it’s own offhand skills like the shortbow. plus it would look pretty awesome on our backs.
1st picked thief as soon as the game came out. haven’t ever made any other classes since. i’ve always played the rogue/ninja/assassin type class in every MMO i played.
what really makes me love my thief is the feeling of getting chased by a million people after i stole someones valuables and or murdered someone… and successfully fleeing… what a rush
couldn’t have said it any better myself… lately i’ve been playing my thief in spvp (which is like my favorite thing to do all day every day) and just see all of these glass cannon backstab build thieves running around 1 shotting everything. it’s not that it’s a problem, i find it easy to counter these thieves with my build, but the fact that all of them run this same build takes the fun out of being a thief in my opinion. it’s the same, boring, 1 shot rotation every 45 seconds or so… i mean i have fun playing D/P blind build, but it seems to never be enough since it hardly does any damage, just good for mobility and survivability… i wish they would do something to actually make the build i play more enjoyable and have more variety…
Also, here is the build that i’ve been playing with for the longest time after
looking around for different D/P builds:

hello, i’m posting because i’m wondering about different playstyles as a thief in spvp.
what i really like to do as a thief is be able to move around quickly and do some damage at the same time while evading enemy attacks. that’s my type of playstyle for my thief, i like to think of is as being an acrobat. the way i’m able to evade an enemy or multiple enemies, and dance around them while they have trouble trying to hit me is amazing and i absoultely love it. but i feel like i’m not doing something correctly… lately i’ve just been going up against a lot of glass cannons, and there’s not much i can do until they finally catch me, or i just run out of utilities and such… damage seems to be a bit of a problem as well. I’m looking for advice on how someone could play D/P effectively, even though people are saying it’s one of the worst setups around. For me, i can’t live without the pistol interrupt, or shadow shot… and black powder is pretty amazing. But i still feel like i’m playing it wrong, and i absolutely refuse to play that backstab insta-gib spec every thief runs around with now. Can i get any advice on how to play D/P properly?
now… can you make your thief tip his hat and say: “the names django…” :P?
“Not everybody likes to play the big villain, kid. I’m a thief. I’m not threatening your precious city, just looking out for number one.”
