lol be happy… they get annoying. Though i did have one enjoyable experience when someone tried to ‘fish’ me one day. but messed up on their HTML code, and rather than seeing the ‘pretty and official looking’ e-mail.. i instead got sent their broken code. Complete with their domain name and a few other items.

All of which i was able to use to track down the Real Life Owner of the fishing attempt + fishing website. I got his house address, name, phone number….. grins Sent him a e-mail to his own private e-mail explaining that i didn’t take kindly to the fishing attempt, and to let him know i was forwarding everything i discovered to the Game Company + CIA/FBI and the agency that covers internet fraud.

Its a bit sad though, as people STILL click on these links, no matter how much effort communities and game developers try to tell people not to.

Just figured i’d post this here for anyone who doesn’t know how to spot Fishing Attempts. (i.e: people trying to get you account info). This is a recent one i got sent by someone claiming to be Arena.Net

If the forum cooperates, i bolded most of the Grammar errors that show it as a fishing attempt, as well as a few other things that people should be able to notice on their own if they pay attention to the text written in these fishing attempts. Also, another good thing to do if you use e-mail systems like Outlook, or even web-based e-mail services is to ‘hover’ (don’t click!) your mouse over the links within the fishing attempt. At the bottom of the window (be it a browser or Outlook) you will see the ‘actual’ link that is hidden under the clickable links in the message. If they do not match (or you can tell it is not the ‘official’ website link), you can be pretty sure if is a fake site you are about to click on.

Hey guys, anyone familiar with Windows 7 know how to fix this issue?

Just upgraded from windows Vista to Windows 7, i ‘had’ to make this upgrade in order to use Nvidia’s “Surround” (the multi-screen display option).

Now, my g13 will not work in-games. PS2, GW2, Tomb Raider (when it dosnt crash). Nothing.

The gamepad IS working, its just not working in-game.

I KNOW i had issues like this long ago on Vista, and i had to dissable, or enable something in Window’s config to allow something along the lines of: allow to affect current screen, or somesuch.

It was some option that kept things running in the background from affecting the active window.

I am assuming that this was turned back on/off when i upgraded to Win 7.

So… anyone familiar with Windows 7 have any idea what is keeping my G13 from working in-game?… or know what im talking about and know how to fix it?

The monitors you selected only have DVI and D-Sub connections.

That’s a pretty big desk.

Anyway, you want the lowest ms-milisecond times possible and the highest refresh rate (hz). Other than that you can pick and choose what other features you want and what brand you want.

(hz) comes in 60, 120, and 240 flavors.
(ms) comes in 8, 6, 4, 2 flavors.

If you want 3D (glasses type) you will need 120 or higher on the hz and less than 4 on the ms.

Dont plan to run 3D, a friend has it on his computer and all it does is give me a headache.

Personally im leaning more towards the ASUS one simply due to the size of the stand (its alot smaller than the one on the HP screen.

Hopefully the Dev’s dont mind me posting this here… as i genuinely am looking for help on this topic, and this seemed to be the safest forum to ask it on.

But, i am considering picking up 3 new monitors for my computer, and converting to a 3-screen setup (both for gaming in GW2, and in Racing Sim’s. The only thing is… while i am vary knowledgeable about computer hardware such as video cards and CPU’s and the like, i know practically nothing about what makes a good monitor ‘good’.. or which might work best in a 3-monitor setup.

So…. Anyone out there running a 3-monitor setup have any tips… opinions… suggestions on what brand/type to get?.. Im going to be limited to 22in wide-screen monitors due to desk-space.

Ok.. since when have i not been able to preview armor my class couldnt use.. yet i can still preview weapons i cant use?… Was this an intended change? or is it a bug? Kinda sucks not being able to see what certain pieces of armor look like that i pick up on one character, that i ‘might’ want to give to a secondary one.

As for changing names, I am pretty sure A-Net will release an item that does that as well.

I had to edit the thing about 8 times… i have no idea why. but one particular paragraph kept getting repeated 3 times in a row, and everything after that got formated into 1 block all together. Honestly have no idea WHY that happend. i literaly eddited it 8 times to finaly get it legible.

As for the makeover thing…. i just loged on about 30 mins ago and didnt even see it XD. When did that get added in? Never saw it mentioned in any patch notes.

Hey GW2 dev’s.

I noticed a post about this being made almost 3 months ago.. but saw no A-net postings on it.. so rather than resurect a old post, i figured i’d start a new one.

My question is this. Why did GW2 not launch with a recustomization mechanic in the Cash/Gem Shop? Its something that has been in GW1 for years now, Aion Online i believe ‘launched’ with it when it came out (or was it added in a few months after launch?). GW1 had the option to buy a ‘coin’ that you could then use to change your characters face/hair/color… and a few other things at the PVP island (as thats were the merchants for that were).

Why didnt GW2 launch with it?.. and is this something that might be in the ‘works’ ? If not, can it be added to the ‘to-do’ list?

p.s.

While this isnt something i personaly want…. In the other thread, they mentioned also letting players re-name their characters. While i know ‘this’ particular item would take alot more work than simply letting us edit our characters (as edditing our character again simply modify’s one file or so, but chaning a name creates an issue were everything linked ‘to’ that name has to be changed as well.), is that also in the works? able to be added for those that might want it?

Sofar in GW2, ive got a Guardian i love, and an engineer i love. But, im trying to decide on a ‘cloth’ wearer class to play. And i cant seem to make up my mind between Necro, Ele or Mezmer.

Im kinda leaning away from Mezmer for 2 things. First, i cant build the same ‘battle-mezmer’ i had in GW1 (sword, focus, Empathy, Backfire, Epidemic). And second… managing all of the clones, some of which do damage, others of which are simply cannon-fodder, is a bit of a pain.

This leaves me with Ele, and Necro. The thing i like about the two of them are the AOE abilities… but what i dont like about Ele is that your stuck useing 1 weapon the majority of the time, and the Necro seems to be mostly reliant on their pets (or am i playing that class wrong?)

Anyone played both able to give a bit of advice?… the playstyle i like sorta goes a bit like ‘aoe, support, conditions’. I like makeing use of various conditions, but also like being able to damage/effect ‘groups’ of stuff.

Im more concerned on finding out if this is simply a client issue, a net issue, or if were getting kicked because someone ‘else’ is trying to log into our accounts.

oh, and tip… when you make a class you might want to play as.. go to the ‘shades of teh mists’.. its a ‘structured’ pvp thing.. but it lets you get an idea of what your character ‘might’ be like at lvl 80. It lets you use all of your ‘lvl 80 total’ skillpoints for your ‘spec lines’, so you can see what the end-results of the builds would be like. Only thing is its pvp only, so you wont see how it works against mobs and your limited to a specific selection of skills, but it’ll give you an idea on the skills you will have access to and how that class will play.

Its a patch…. and aparently everyone is trying to download it at the same time. I just got home from work and am having issues getting the patcher to work.

This does happen from time to time on MMO’s when a patch comes out and ‘everyone’ tries to get it at the same time. While the ‘game’ server might be able to handle 600k+ people at once, the patching systems are usualy slightly smaller. Its likely getting overloaded.

Just play something else for a hour or so, then try again =)

As the title says… is Guesting never going to be implemented? This was a feature i was actually looking forward to in GW2, yet except for seeing the option in the Beta once or twice, i’ve never seen it since launch.

Is this still a planned option or has it been dropped?

Simple way to keep people from going to the RMT’s and buying gold, instead of useing the in-game Gem -> Gold system, would be to flat ban not only the accounts, but also the CC’s used to set up that particular account (and blacklist the name/address/ect, all the personal stuff A.Net is able to see that we fill out when we set up our accounts) associated with the account when someone is caught recieving gold from gold-sellers or such.

Make it so that people who participate in the RMT’s scams are literaly unable to ever play the game again.

Once a few hundred people are blacklisted, the rest will stop.

If its still stuck at 99% and you have NOT already closed the launcher/patcher. Close it, then restart it.

When GW2 first installed on alot of our computers for the first time, the patcher/installer would stop at 99% on the initial install.

When we all closed then restarted the launcher it would finish.

No idea why it did this.. but for 99% of us, that was the case.

1 question. on the pages.. do you have to re-do the original ones? or just pick up from the ‘new’ pages?

Ever since a few patches ago (befor the holloween events, but within the last month or so). Ive started to notice that at the Character Select screen, every once and a while, my screen will go black, then come back to the game, then go black again, befor finaly returning to the character select screen and acting like normal.

If i alt tab out, i’ll see that windows is giving me a system tray notification that my display driver/addapter stoped responding and had to be restarted.

Im currently useing a EVGA GTX 690 Signature Eddition video card using the 30448 drivers.

Anyone else having this ‘suddenly’ start happening recently and have any idea what might be causing this? it ONLY happens on the character select screen, and even then only occasionaly. Game continues to run 100% fine with every setting maxed out with no trouble.. and i know its not a heat issue as the card never goes over 45c =) (ive got lotsa cooling in my case hehe)

Sigh, way to cave in to the QQ, Arenanet.

This will either go two ways: 1. if you kept the droprate at a reasonable number (like it was on the BLC chests in the first place), people who QQd that they didn’t get anything will just come back to QQ more that they didn’t get anything again.

2. If tons of players get the skins they wanted now, even more whining would then be about how things are stupid and meaningless because everyone can have them. Which is a legit complaint as opposed to the “OH I OPENED CHESTS, GOT NOTHING, PLEASE GIVE ME STUFF NOW”.
Also players who actually spent big gold to get the skins off the TP will be very angry now that the skins won’t be as unique and that they are gonna crash hard in price.

There’s a difference between QQ’ing about not getting a ‘event’ item out of 1-5 chests openings… its a totaly different matter when you open 40+ like some of us have.. + spending 40+$ on keys for.. and STILL get nothing.

figures. i find out those 21 tonics i threw away (i throw them away out of habbit… since you cant do anything while your in the mystery forms) i now will need.

Guess even after opening 21 chests… getting 21+ tonics.. throwing away the tonics but keeping the rest.. i still will be SOL when it comes to even useing the recipy mentioned above =T

Both my accounts are linked. The HoM calculator says I should have 22 points for my HoM in GW2. So I go to the HoM and nope, nothing.

Yea.. if your GW1 account has been disabled, that likely means it was banned for some reason or another. Untill it is re-activated, you’ll not get any benifits from it.

or what type of e-mail is it? ISP (like time-warner) or a ‘freebie’ like Gmail or Yahoo? If its a Direct ISP e-mail. go to the ISP’s website and log into the e-mail threw their website, see if its sitting in the ‘junkmail’ folder on THEIR servers.

It make even less sense when they try to block someone from enter in your account in game but let that same someone enter in your account in browser to steal the account changing your e-mail in seconds.

I see what you are saying. If I am understanding this correctly, what the account thieves can do is this…

1. Thief gets access to email and password (very easily done if people re-use credentials from site to site).
2. Thief signs into GW2 client when valid credentials are found. Thief can’t get in due to email verification. (They could just skip this step completely.)
3. Thief signs into web site using same valid email and password used in step 1. No verification needed other than email and password.
4. Thief changes email address to an email account he can access.
5. Thief signs into the client again. This time the verification email goes to the account he has access to.

The valid owner then can’t access his account because the thief has likely changed the email and the password.

If this indeed works as described above, it renders the email verification essentially useless.

It is still up to the account owner to ensure proper seccurity if his own GW2 credentials, but if any kinds of safeguards are going to be added then they shouldn’t have holes like what’s described above, assuming those steps are correct.

Oh geez, this is what the op originally stated. This is what I get for skimming through posts and not reading them in their entirety.

1. Thief uses aquired e-mail/password to log into GW2’s website.
2. Thief clicks on ‘my account’ to bring up the account information.
3. Thief clicks inside the ‘change account login/e-mail’ box and types in new e-mail.
4a. Thief instantly recieves the ‘confirmation’ e-mail in the e-mail they just entered into the website.
4b. Victom gets a ‘hey! someone just changed your account information! your screwed if it wasnt you!’ message.
5. Thief clicks the link and ‘confirms’
6. Thief now has 100% controle of the account without ever launching the client.
7. Thief logs into the patcher and clicks the little grey button to ‘re-confirm’ the new e-mail.
8. Thief logs in and does whatever the gold-farming SOB’s do.

If you lose access to your email account because you change ISPs, or for any other reason, and you want to change your GW2 email, and ArenaNet decides you have to confirm the change at your old email address, you won’t be able to change it. Not every site requires that you have access to your current email address if you want to change that address within the site.

If you are loose with your password, or if you keep using the same login credentials that you have used elsewhere, or if you share your account with others, or if you have malware on your pc, that’s not ArenaNet’s fault.

If you lose access to the old e-mail, then you call support. Thats what they are there for, to help you when you have lost access to an ISP e-mail account as you can give them the Game’s CD key, your old E-mail, billing information, registration information.. and so on.

Allowing an immediate and non-conformation-required change of this magnitude to be done is justkitten poor security practices.

While the ‘forgot password’ option sends a confirmation e-mail to the account on file, if a hacker manages to ‘break’ your password and log in to the website, they are then able to IMMEDIATLY change your login credentials (which is basicaly your e-mail that is on file), and there is NO confirmation e-mail sent to the previous e-mail/login prior to this change taking effect. The change is immediate if done directly from the website.

If someone gets your email and password, your account can be compromised regardless of whether the person changes your password. If they sign into your account and take your gold, the damage has already been done even if they don’t change your password (or your email).

This is true, but ‘normaly’ if they manage to get your password, they can only log Onto your account and do things, they cant outright take ‘controle’ of the account without also having access to your e-mail account itself in order to get the ‘confirmation e-mails’ required to make any changes permament.

The problem here is that there is NO confirmation sent when you change the LOGIN information. The only confirmation sent is to the NEW login. The old one gets nothing but the cheerfull “hello, someone just changed your login on you, your FUBAR now untill you spend 10+ days playing e-mail tag with support if it was not you that did this”.

Having an account hacked, and loseing a bit of gold, or items, or even a full character is one thing.. you can recover from that and re-secure your account and move on.

100% loosing controle of the account on the other hand, is a different matter.

Does she already have a game account?.. If so, have her log into the game and check the ‘black lion’s trading company’.

the ‘upgrade’ may be waiting for her there. (as you can purchase the upgrade in-game as well as threw the web)

Just an update on this.. there apparently ‘is’ a confirmation e-mail… though its being sent to the NEW e-mail.. not the OLD e-mail. So all the ‘victim’ gets is a cheerful:

“Someone -hopefully you!- has requested to change the email address associated with your Guild Wars account.

How can you have a confirmation requirement for a ‘lost password’ but not have one for a ‘major’ account change?

Also, whats it gonna take for you guys at A-net to purchase a ‘digital’ Keygen (such as what you can get for Diablo 3, Aion, Star Wars: The Old Republic… all major AAA title games… except for GW2) for us to get?

Allowing us to get one of these would cause an immediate drop in the # of hacked accounts you guys are recieving. Then after you re-secure and return the ‘Thousands’ of hacked accounts to their rightfull owners, you’ll not have to worry about those accounts again either.
