Put me down for this too. I haven’t been able to spend more than about 3 minutes in the game once I load into a map. Often I don’t even get 10 steps of movement in before I DC. I always click the file report button, but where else can we post the crash logs to get someone’s attention? I never crashed before this, but like so many others, the game is unplayable now…

Ever since I downloaded HoT, I crash within seconds of moving. Doesn’t matter what map, or what I’m doing, within 2-30 seconds of loading in I DC. Game is completely unplayable now! Where do I go to find help?

Wait for personal story mastery points?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Rils.7368

Given this quote from the Masteries article:

“Mastery points are awarded for completing various pieces of game content. Things like completing a chapter in your personal story…”

Should I wait to do the personal story on my alts until HOT drops? I was going to catch everybody up over the next few weeks, but then realized that putting off my personal stories might be an easy way to gather mastery points quickly… Since I have 7 alts who haven’t done the story, at 7 or 8 chapters in Old Tyria + all the LS2 stuff per character, that’s over a hundred mastery points right off the bat I can plow through!

Does it work like that?

Tips for portalling?

in Players Helping Players

I’ve heard that it’s expected, or at least customary, to tip players who provide portals to jumping puzzle chests, master sky crystals, etc. Is that true? If so, what’s the going rate?

Too much Silk

in Crafting

Posted by: Rils.7368

Rils.7368

Something to consider though is that silk is also relatively easy to get. 15 min on the QD champ train will get you a good dozen+ from salvaging. Even if it’s not your preferred play style, consider that an hour a night for a week will easily get you a stack of silk, plus mithril and all sorts of other sellable mats. If you need silk, it’s way easier to farm the material than to farm gold to buy the material, IMO.

Personally, I don’t need silk, and I’ve been making some great coin selling my salvages on the TP…

Puzzle Discovery

Rils.7368

The puzzles are the same. The only thing that’s changed is how you get to the jump off point for Troll’s End. It’s actually shorter to get to now. But entrance points for both Urmaug and Weyandt’s are exactly the same as before.

New to crafting (Please help)

You can see the icons in your mini map for the different types of gathering nodes. (As mentioned, not th ebig map, but the little map in the bottom right of your screen.) You can see the icons on the wiki, and get a lot more info on them, here: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Node#Resource_nodes

You simply can’t run around for hours and not find trees to harvest, they are all over the place. Hundreds per map. Just look for the node icons. Once you get close to a harvestable tree, it will be outlined in yellow and labeled “Aspen Sapling” or “Ekku Sapling” or whatever kind of tree it is (different kinds of trees give different tiers of materials). Same for ore and cooking ingredient nodes. Hope that helps.

A new city?

Rils.7368

I don’t see why there couldn’t be an existing city off in the wilds that has lost contact with the general Tyrian populations. RL history is full of cultures who existed independantly and with no knowledge of each other for millenia. Think about the first time the Europeans landed in China, or Central America, or etc. “Hey, wow, these guys have cities too!” My bet is there’s a good chunk of populated world out there that we simply just don’t know about yet.

Dye Changes Feedback/Questions

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rils.7368

Rils.7368

Do we know if there is a chance for duplicate dyes again after this change? For example, say I have two avvies right now who have both unlocked the color “Unexciting Brown”. On patch day, one of those will get reverted to “unidentified”. Is there a chance that that un-id’ed dye could be Unexciting Brown again? Or am I guarenteed to get a new color every time I open an un-id’ed dye from here on out?

Aedelric is right, I saw them there too, east side of the apple orchard. Was rather surprised, tbh, just stumbled on them as I was running through. I don’t think you can chat with them, but they talk amongst themselves.

gw2 precursor recipe/scavanger hunt news?

in Crafting

Posted by: Rils.7368

Rils.7368

Dang. Now they got me scared with “our new updated reward and progression systems we’re working on”. I really hope it doesn’t mean more vertical progression, such as another grindy tier of gear beyond Ascended.

I fear it does.

I think you missed the sentance before that one, where he said “…and our main horizontal progression systems are about to get some additional updates…” (emphasis added).

Seriously though, bummer news. I’ve been looking forward to this too. As a casual gamer who doesn’t have the time to grind a couple K gold, I am looking forward to having something I can work towards at my own pace. “Farming events for mystic toilet loot” isn’t my idea of a good time.

To be honest, either is farming for high end or time-gated crafting mats. I am totally down with the idea of a “scavenger hunt”. But requiring 250 of Material A, each of which is refined from 25 Component Bs, each of which can only be gathered 3/day from a Meta-Achievement Node C which you may or may not have earned a year ago (and hopefully you did, because there’s no other way to get it now) isn’t a Scavenger Hunt. It’s just obnoxious.

I would love to see some sort of system that allowed me to complete concrete tasks which ended in a particular precursor. Do This. Go There. Do That While Going Yonder. Collect the Four Mystical Doodads (each of which is a 100% guarenteed drop from completing the four particular event chains) and Forge them into the Gift of Studliness. It can be challenging, sure, cause otherwise everyone will be running around with one. But at least it’s task and achievement oriented, and something I can say “I Accomplished” without depending on the vagaries of RNG fate or my ability to repeatedly farm content I’m not interested in.

That’s what I would love to see. Guess I’ll keep waiting!

Why is the Toxic Alliance still around??

in Living World

Posted by: Rils.7368

Rils.7368

It’s worth noting as well that toxic krait are also a splinter faction. Just like the toxic courtiers, they were changed by Scarlet. Angel talked about this in one of the other threads here – the “normal” krait see them as fools chasing false and failed gods. Having been enslaved to Scarlet’s will, how would they fare returning to a society who feeds on slavery?

Neither one of these societies will accept back those who joined Scarlet. My guess is that the Toxic Alliance is still around simply because they have nowhere else to go.

I’m going ot wait to see the new vendor before I trash anything. To be honest, I’ve been hanging on to my leftovers ever since the Council Election episode, where you got to sell your leftover tickets for cash afterwards. Haven’t trusted them not to pull that kind of stunt again…

Loremasters?

Quick and random question – are Ree and Jeff still Loremasters at ANet? During development of GW2 we heard from them all the time, but I can’t remember seeing anything from them recently… Seems like its Angel and her team now. Not that there’s anything wrong with Angel, she’s great, just curious what happened to the originals!

Change crafting class

in Crafting

Posted by: Rils.7368

Rils.7368

Yep. Simply, it costs you nothing to train a new discipline, although you can only have 2 disciplines active at a time. If I have two and want to try a third, it costs me nothing to train the third, but I have put one of the others on hold.

It’s entirely possible to train all 8 disciplines on one character for no cost. The only cost is if you want to switch back to one you’ve already made progress in.

To go back to a discipline you’ve trained in, it costs you 10cp per level that you trained. You keep ALL progress you already made, there’s nothing to relearn.

The general formulas can usually be gleaned from you starting recipes. To make a coat, for instance, just look at the one you start with – you’ll need a coat outer (i.e. panels), a coat inner (i.e. lining), and an insignia of some sort. That’s your pattern.

So then you just make all the kinds of insignia you can, one for each piece of armor (usually 6 pieces of armor [head, coat, leggings, etc], so make 6 types of each insignia).

Then make the components for each type of insignia (if you made 3 kinds of insignia, make three coat panels, three coat linings, three legging panels, three legging linings, etc).

Then go to Discovery and make all the possible combinations you can – mix every kind of outer/inner with every kind of insignia. That’s the way to rake in crafting (and real) XP.

Every discipline except cooking uses that same general formula. Everything is typically 2 general components + 1 upgrade component. Check the wiki for specifics if you need more info.

They do have that, it’s the Collections pane in your bank. From your inventory, there’s a couple ways to send crafting mats straight to your collection. You can right click on something, and pick “send to collection” from the pop-up menu, or you can click on the little gear icon at the top right of your inventory window and select “send all materials to collection” (or something like that, don’t remember the exact wording off hand). Handiest thing in the world. You can also transfer items directly from inventory to the collections from any crafting station or bank.

I’m in the same boat, running low on fine materials to level crafting. I have a bunch of blood and bone chips from norn starting area, and virtually nothing else. I was trying to stick to the norn areas, but realizing you need to broaden your horizons to broaden your resource pools…

I don't get crafting. Help!

Rils.7368

Yeah, refining mats and grinding out multiple copies of gear doesn’t get you anything, you have to discover stuff. For things like armorsmith, your basic stuff to discover basically has three components: an outer piece, and inner piece, and a rune/insignia/whatever. The most efficient way to level is:
- Making insignias: look at how many individual pieces of armor you can make, ie leggings, chest, arms, etc. Usually it’s like 5 or 6. Make 1 insignia of each type for each of these armor pieces. (ie if you can make 6 armor pieces, make 6 vital insignias, 6 precise insignias, etc).
- Making armor components: look at how many types of insignias you now have. Make that many inner and outer armor components of each type. (ie if you made 3 types of insignias, make 3 chest panels, 3 chest linings, 3 legging panels, 3 legging linings, etc).
- Now go to discovery and start combining components with insignias. Mix your chest pieces with each type of insignia, mix your legging pieces with each type of insignia, etc. If you made, for example, 3 types of insignias and 6 types of armor components, you should be able to discover 18 new recipes. This is where you rake in the XP.
- Note you don’t have to do this process all at once, you just have to keep track of what you have and haven’t made. For instance, maybe I only have enough mats to make 2 Precise insignias. I’ll make the coat components and the legging components to do those discoveries, and wait till I can make more insignias before I make the arms/shoes/hat/etc components.

Important note: Mats can be stored in the collections tab, but components take up bank space – don’t make components until you’re ready to use them.

Hope that helps. For more info, check out the three crafting guides by Enigmious on youtube, they are very very good.
