You guys claim you like all the races, but how many of you would play as Asura or Charr as your main? I still think that the vast majority of players don’t want to play as these races. More compelling races would have attracted more players to this game. Lots of people like the traditional fantasy races like elves.
Asura Guardian is my main. The Asura are easily the most interesting race in the game with the best animations. I’ve also got a Sylvari Mesmer and a Charr Engineer.
If people don’t want to play this game because it doesn’t have elves they need to broaden their mind. Not every gamer wants the same old tropes, stories and races thrown at them constantly. Not all consumers are happy to be sold the same game with a different overcoat on every year in a CoD esque manner.
A couple of times. Two of us had to handle Alpha pretty much every single time in CoE because the other 3 were new/bad and didn’t get the hang of when to dodge.
And on SE path 3. Although there the group wasn’t bad, it was just undergeared. The Destroyer of Worlds wiped us several times as there was a lot of ranged characters and we weren’t doing enough damage to kill them off before more spawned/they didn’t have enough survivability. In the end I switched my Guardian out to Scepter and Focus and led a train of adds around the room, picking up aggro on all of them whilst the other guys stood up high on the wooden platforms.
I’d just like them to fix our shouts so they all have sound and other players here them.
Mainly for the awesome factor, but also because if your with another guardian you can stagger abilities better without having to watch little icons so much.
Be nice if Anet stopped pretending we had loads of viable builds to. But mainly just the shouts thing.
Well, I guess that is my issue then, coming from the concept of tanking, healing and dps.
I assumed that even though any class can technically play any roll, when it came to dungeons, a player would need to choose a specific build to fill a typical roll. Meaning, you’d still need a tank/healer/dps combo.
From what is said here, it sounds as if dungeons are about finding the mechanic and dps dead. Not sure what the point of a full spec into Vitality/Toughness are good for then. More to the point, I am not sure what the point of melee is, especially in this dungeon. The ultimate build/class is whichever has the best/most utility to keep the enemy at a distance, so any class with a primary focus in range.
Basically yeah. Find out the mechanic through trial and failure (or ‘cheat’ by using the internet). Once you’ve got that it’s just a case of using dodge where it needs to be done and DPSing stuff down.
As a beginner warrior you probably want some vit and toughness whilst you learn the mechanics and stuff, but power, prec and crit will probably prove more useful.
Melee is actually much better once you get the mechanics. You cleave groups of mobs down so much quicker than a bunch of ranged characters with minimal aoe. The cookie cutter dungeon group is 3 warriors, 1 guardian and 1 mesmer for example.
You’ll soon get the hang of dungeons. Then you’ll do the final story mode dungeon, Arah. A dungeon that is now so easy the NPCs can actually do parts of it without the players lifting a finger….
Absolute rubbish. If even 1 person knows what they are doing and explains it to the others in advance, speed runs are much quicker.
When the whole group already knows, it’s an absolute cake walk. Your problem came in that nobody knew what they were doing.
Honestly though if people just used a bit of awareness and watched the other players and the map you’d rarely even have to explain anything.
Frustrating as it probably is waiting to see if there will be any Warrior fixes, just level another profession in the mean time.
I’m leveling a warrior so I’ve got a Guardian and Warrior to faceroll dungeons with. But a Guardian and Mesmer for PvP/WvW.
I’m so sick of people kicking me at the final boss, especially when i ran through the entire dungeon with them.
Either you’re really unlucky or you’re doing something to tick people off. Can’t say this has ever happened to me.
But I agree, 2 people is to few. But I think 4 is to many. 3 would work.
Once you’ve ran a dungeon a few times, most people don’t generally retain an interest in killing absolutely everything. They’re not doing it for the content but the reward at the end.
The Champion dog at the start of CoE is a good example of why people skip. It’s not challenging, it’s just a time sink that will reward you with 1-2 under leveled blue pieces. Mix that with say running the dungeon with a sub-optimal group and it becomes a massive time sink for no real reward.
If you want to kill everything every single time, make your own groups with those out lines. Don’t try and force other people to kill stuff that is boring, not challenging, lacks reward and takes to long.
“NO NO NO! We should go to the armory—NO NO NO—NO NO NO! We should go to the armory. That’s where Zadorojny is likely to—NO NO NO—NO NO NO!”
Ahahaha, yes. I love this.
I did this dungeon to death to get my Guardian Knights stats armour (and also gloves for my Mesmer) and never found it difficult to get a group for path 1 or 3.
Although getting a group for path 2 was trickier, as it’s so much longer and some people have trouble grasping the mechanics of the last boss.
If I’d had a choice though, I wouldn’t have chose to do SE. The armour isn’t my favourite looks wise but it’s the only one with Knights stats. I’ll probably end up transmuting it, but not until other characters and decked out to.
Has everyone here forgotten about story modes? :/ There’s your easy mode.
That’s what I was thinking.
Do story modes at the level and explorables at 80. I mean you can’t even make use of the explorable tokens until you are at least 60 right?
Urgh. They should have implemented this for the next days dailies. Resetting in the middle is completely stupid.
I was 80% done with my daily, log back on to 20%. Awesome.
Alpha is really just an exercise in counting to 3.
Exactly this.
When Alpha starts throwing down loads of aoe circles that overlap each other you just count to three and dodge once.
I think the people who are complaining about a lack of endurance are dodging to many times trying to get completely out of the aoe circles. You just need to dodge once. Then either run back in or use a leap. Don’t dodge back into him as you’ll run out of endurance.
Alternatively if you’ve got an ability like the Mesmers sword 2 attack you can just go invulnerable.
Quick question about the Shatter/Phantasm hybrid. You mention is has condition removal? Where?
Well I had fun tonight. Some good mass and small brawls and the a one on one here and there.
Also getting zerged by Elona >_> All good fun mind.
Any information about guilds on Desolation? The people I joined with are mostly playing other stuff at the moment.
My Asura guardian never shouts ‘hold the line’. Only stand your ground, Save yourselves and retreat. But I do wish other players could hear my shouts.
Dungeons are hard due to their difficulty being tied to certain strategies you have to discover without a clue….
Dungeons for beginners are really difficult….despite after the 100TH time you play them you find them easy….
There is so much information available on how to tackle each dungeon, ignorance is not an excuse for failing.
If working out the mechanic on your own through trial and error is to much for you then do some research.
If I’m new to a dungeon then you just mention it and 80% of groups wont have a problem with that. It only takes a few lines of text to quickly explain what they need you to do in each section.
For example, given the fact that dungeons are difficult for many players, those who already find them easy should try them without exotic equipment…
But despite they say they could do that they still don t do that.
I’ve been doing dungeons for around 2-3 weeks and started with no exotics. I now have 5-6 pieces. How do you figure most people with exotics acquired them? By doing dungeons without them.
Of course it gets easier with exotic gear. But that’s the reward for doing the dungeon and gaining exotic gear surely?

Dungeons aren’t hard, even for new players. They can be long winded if the whole team is only wearing greens, but they are still possible.
I’ve never done a dungeon without first watching a quick youtube video on it so I no roughly what I’m doing and understand which bosses/fights are going to have mechanics I need to understand to avoid instant death etc.
I’ve only ever done dungeons in PuGs picked up from map chat or gw2lfg, so if your having difficulty you need to watch videos and gear up a little better.
Although I will admit groups composition can really influence how easy a dungeon is. Without a couple of warriors or guardians for condition removal some fights are more complex.
I tackled Alpha for the first time last night. The guy who had run the dungeon before just told us all to hug Alpha, joint res anyone who went down and DPS the crystal imprisonments.
I didn’t have any problems, but then as an AH Guardian if I was going down I’d just switch to staff and throw a symbol of swiftness and then an empower and my health would rocket back up.
I keep both with me. The focus just feels more useful when I’m roaming around on my own doing PVE which is a shame as the shield looks awesome, especially when aegis is up.
Great post. Well thought and logical.
I have to agree. When I started my Guardian I saw loads of traits at the beginning of each line that looked tasty. But after playing for a while and looking at the later traits it became very clear 30pts in Valor was pretty much mandatory.
Renewed Justice bug is happening all the time now. Especially in personal story lines.
Edit: Also ‘Hold the line’ is missing the audio for my female asura. The bug topic only lists Charr and Sylvari.
