If you want to roam in zergs – Go Necro, high survivability and lots of AoE.

Thieves are still not awesome in zergs due to low health and AoE nuking their ‘thing’, stealth.

Rangers are… Rangers, only play them if you love them in WvW.

What about solo roaming with necromancers? Are they decent at that?

They are if you know what you’re doing. I wouldn’t recommend it so much for wvw (solo) even tho it’s possible but with the 100 zergs out there might be not one of the smartest decisions lol. For pve Necro’s are excellent when it comes to solo roaming or soloing most content, you can solo champs with it as well IF you know what you’re doing. Some people complain that Necro’s are slow but to be honest I run faster with my Necro over the maps and finish content than I would with my Guardian, Warrior, Ele or Mesmer. Your build defiantly matters, while a lot of people say that the “zerk” build is the only build for pve I highly disagree with that when it comes to the necromancer. Sure Glass Cannon Build is attractive and you kill mobs faster than I do probably but you have no chance of surviving when running through more crowded areas (example orr)

Interesting. I guess I’ll have to give the necro another shot. :P Store my warrior until it all blows over. Thanks for the help.

Another one of these. So I’m just kind of stuck, and need a little bit of info on some classes.

So I’ve narrowed it down to necromancer, ranger, and thief. I don’t really like any of the classes (well I like the warrior, but it was hard enough to get past it being the noob class and the most played, but now that is all overpowered and such, just eh. :/).

The thief I know is, well, a thief. They kinda soorta died down though, I want to know if thieves are actually viable in zergs somehow in wvw, because I like to be in zergs and roam around.

Then the ranger, which honestly is the weakest choice of the three, considering all the problems with them and everything, but I still love rangers. Always have.

And the necromancer, now I played the necromancer before but I gave it no chance at all and don’t remember much about it, but I know that it can be pretty good in a zerg, and decent in roaming. But exactly how good are they? And do they require different builds for doing both?

I guess I just want to know each profession’s WvW capabilities, and maybe some of their PvE, since I do like doing the living world.

Sorry if I haven’t given enough information, just let me know and I’ll try to explain more. ^^ Thanks for the help

Warriors are definitely op currently. They have great dps in pve, have many viable builds, specially wanted in pve parties, and they have infinite stun/cc spam with hammer/mace shield in wvw and pvp with low cooldowns. And the most ridiculous thing, they still buff them with the latest patches… I’m not against cc spam but they have to add counter skills for other classes like long-duration stabilities etc. Enter wvw and see yourself, ppl just play to spam hammerstuns in guild raids. Today I’ve seen an enemy guild with at least 20+ hammer warriors. No stability or stun break can deal with this kind of cc spam. Fights aren’t fun anymore…

That is really upsetting… xD It took me a month to finally stick to a character and level it up. Time to find a new one..

Warrior or Thief?

They’re both very different playstyles, and from what I’m hearing both are in a fairly bad position at the moment. These are the only two classes I find fun though, and I do not like having more than one character at a time unless the other is max level. Which will also take a while to do since I enjoy the story.

I REALLY like WvW, and thieves are apparently terrible in zergs, and warriors just aren’t that great all around in wvw (from what I hear),

I want to be able to at least have a small chance in a 1v1 scenario, don’t really care about 1vX. But I also want to be able to do something in a zerg. I understand these two characters aren’t like guardians or eles with bringing everything to the table, but I’m not sure which is more suited for what I want.

I’ve tried every single class, so suggesting a different one is somewhat useless, as they all bore me, which really upsets me.

If anyone could help I’d really appreciate it. x.x sorry for being another one of those “whatshouldiplaythreads”.

So I’m interested in the versatility of the warrior, with so many weapons. However everyone says that the warriors aren’t really that great, other than maybe a couple builds in wvw. Is this really true? I mean, player skill is definitely a huge deciding factor, but I feel like a good warrior fighting a decent anything else would have trouble.

Yeah, I guess everything is kinda too disorganized as it is, don’t need to add a new class to it.

I just REALLY want to play this game, the story interests me, but after so long I just can’t play whatever profession I chose. Maybe it is because of the skill system, the fact that within an hour I can unlock every weapon skill. I dunno. Just my ramblings that I want to get out.

Well since I kind of took a break from GW2 and that huge update rolled in, just wondering what class I should try out. The update apparently added more build diversity, and these two classes seem like the two I’d like a lot. I like to be viable in zergs, but I also like to be able to hold my own alone or with a friend or so.

Are they both pretty balanced? Thanks.

Engineer or Guardian..?

Ronako.2315

So, I want to play an engineer, but I also want to play a guardian.. so here’s my little conflicts on choosing.

Everyone says the engineer is really fun, but does that only really happen at somewhat higher levels? Like, when you get the kits? Also, I find the pistol very underwhelming, this may be because I never really got very high… but I’m not exactly sure if I should use a rifle, as I want to use kits and they mostly do condition damage. Oh, I won’t be using turrets. Unless turrets are good. Then I’ll use turrets.

I’m going to be doing quite a lot of WvW, I want to be able to hold my own in 1v1 maybe even a few 1vX scenarios, so basically, deal enough damage and not be squishy, but also be viable in a zerg. Also in regards to damage, I’ve heard a lot of things about engineers having underwhelming damage period, is this true?

As for the guardian, I actually like the guardian. It can do good in a zerg and 1v1/some 1vX scenarios. However, I get SO bored with their skills. Greatsword and hammer and pretty much their best weapon, and I get bored of that so quick. A little problem I had with the engineer too, as I got bored of skills quick I didn’t want to level anymore.

So thanks for anyone who read the wall of text, if you could help that’d be great, and thanks in advance.

Maybe you just dont like playing as a guardian. If you tried twice and quit both times then why not try another class?

Also, different weapons have different uses. Some weapons I didnt like as much until I come to a situation that it is perfect for, then I realize how cool the weapon is and that each one has its place.

I’ve tried different classes. I dunno, I really like the idea of the Guardian, just not the weapons/skills.

I like the idea of being able to turn the tides of a battle, but still be viable in a small scale fight. I’ve tried every single class, and this class seems a little more capable of doing so. I mean, I would play a thief, and it’s not exactly that people hate it that keeps me away, but other than a shortbow, I’m useless in a battle.

When I tried the engineer, damage output was mediocre for the way I wanted to play it.

Warrior, well, apparently their traits suck and they struggle in pvp/wvw.

Elementalist, it’s kind of what I’m looking for, a jack of all trades, but I’m not too big on being a mage..

Mesmer, scholar version of a thief pretty much xD

Necro, I HATE condition damage.

Ranger, I would actually really love the ranger, if half the damage output didn’t come from their pet.

Maybe I just don’t like the classes to this game altogether, but I really love this game. xD I wish their april fools character commando was real. x_x Sorry for just kinda spammin the forums with walls of complaining text.

Try using a meditation build for your Guardian. Judge’s Intervention, smite condition, and contemplations of purity with monk’s focus not only heals you for 2k when you use them, but 2/3 utitilies break stuns, 2/3 cure conditions, and Judge’s Intervention is a blink you can use while channeling another skill. As for that feeling of turning the tide of a fight, NOTHING beats using judge’s intervention while channeling ring of warding on the hammer so that you effectively block a good chunk of people in your ring while creating a chokepoint for those out of it. That leaves your group with a very easy opportunity to blanket the area with AoEs. Also hammer #3 is great for keeping multiple people pegged in a spot for chasing / escaping.

Guess I could try that, will try to find some builds. Thanks.

What if I were to run a warrior? I’ve heard somewhat bad things about them, but still. I’m not talking greatsword, I don’t really want to do that, but say sword or shield or something. In comparison to a guardian with my friend still being a ele, what would be a better combo?

Should I be a Guardian, or Elementalist? Will typically be doing pve or pvp. I’ve heard elementalists are jack of all trades, but I kind of think a guardian could maybe fill that role as well. If not, why? I want to have options of weapons to choose from.

Ronako.2315

So, I’ve made a guardian twice, stopped playing both. I had the skills of all the weapons, and the only viable ones seem to be greatsword, staff, and hammer.

Now, I’m REALLY into variety of weapons, but not much into the warrior. I’m going to be doing pve and wvw, so I’m just asking if there are any other viable options that still maintain a good dps?

I was thinking of mostly trying out sword/focus or sword/torch, and secondary would be scepter/focus or scepter/torch, depending on which secondary I put on what.

I love this game, but I get bored of skills so quickly I drive myself insane because of the way I am.

Anyways, I might do some roaming and definitely zergs, would I be good in a 1v1 scenario? I haven’t made a build, don’t plan on it until I finally choose what I want to stick with.

Sorry if this is all over the place, thanks for the help.

What would be a good target point for condition damage?

I’d say if you’re around 1000, you’re doing alright.

Alright, thanks. I haven’t made it yet, but just so I don’t get bored and wimp out at level 10, engineers get more fun when I finally get their kits, right? I hate not being able to swap weapons, and the kits I want take quite a few levels to get. Also, are engineers really versatile? I’m typically going to be roaming and helping zergs and such.

And one last little bit, I’m not really into condition damage that much, though I don’t really see the point of a power build for an engineer, seeing as they have really good conditions and such. Just thought I’d add that even though it might not matter. xD

Thanks for the help by the way.

So I want to do quite a bit of wvw, while still doing some pve here and there. Now before you see the build, I’m still fairly noob to this game, so please forgive me if this build is… all over the place xD Also, not that great with choosing gear and such. So here it is:

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQJAqalspqbn1SyF87IRIFF++gek36yXRKqcjB-jEDBYLChUgAEJgJPCipPKrVNFRjVXDT5SIV/Ky2xYWyB1UWRGA-w

I pretty much want to be critting a lot, so I want the chance over 50%, but I also want to be survivable. I’m going to be using kits along with pistol/pistol, but if pistol/shield is better please let me know. Also, I’d be fine if the tool kit was replaced, but I really do wanna use the flamethrower and elixir gun, unless it’s not recommended to do so.

Thanks for the help.

I am not sure on your play style, but from looking at your build…
-You probably don’t want too much spec’d into your pistols. You have 3 kits, which means you should be switching between them like a mad man and coming back to the pistol for Poison Dart or Static Shot. I’d use Juggernaut for the Might.

-Since you have 3 kits with the pistol, you want to spec more into condition damage than power. The kits you are using benefit more from condition damage and the pistol scales horribly with power anyway. Rabid gear would be my recommendation. I can’t tell if you wanted to have more survivability or not, since you had a few pieces of Valkyrie/Knights. Try mix matching some Knights gear in there as well if this is so.

-While Elixir H is arguably our best heal, you could dish out more support with the healing turret (drop it, over charge it, blow it up for AoE heals). It works well with the Elixir Gun’s Super Elixir.

-Elixir X doesn’t really work with the build it looks like you are trying to achieve, since you’re unable to use any of your kits when in Tornado or Berserker. Try Supply Crate instead.

-I don’t know if it has been changed or not, but last I knew. When having 2 sigils that have a chance to proc on crit, if one procs it puts the other sigil on cool down as well. It looks like you want a high chance to crit, why not use the Sigil of Accuracy instead? If you want to play the might stacking game, try the Sigil of Strength or Battle as well.

Like I said, I am not sure what you are actually trying to go for, so I can’t give you much more advice than this. Good luck to you mate!

Guardians have more mobile damage…

I’ve made two Guardians, both times got bored by level 10. xD Same thing happens with every other class. The only one I haven’t tried is elementalist and warrior. I have a friend who plays an elementalist and I’m not one for playing the same class, though I’m sure I’d somehow get bored of it anyways.

Guardians get good when you get higher, they’re traits are just so much better its not funny. Warriors have good lowbie traits (+40 Prec Per Signet? lol?) However when you get up to L80 that trait is useless.

It’s not that I don’t think they’re good, it’s just I don’t like the weapons. I have mixed feelings on GW2’s skill system where it’s based on the weapon. I like it, it’s pretty unique, but it’s also limited. One of the reasons why I want to go warrior is because they have a ton of weapons to choose from, I can go sword/shield, mace/shield, hammer, greatsword, longbow, etc etc. I’m not interested in whoring out the greatsword like what’s normally done.

I dunno. I’m so conflicted. D;

We have to much raw damage, it needs nerfed. However our mobile damage needs buffed, our choreographed attacks need new/faster animations. Our weapon sets need revamped because most are useless and gimmicky compared to others. Our off-hand sets need revamped, some of them are completely useless due to game changes (Axe 4/5).

In Easy content we are the best class, (Aka, content that stands still, has huge hp and does not move at all.) however in pvp/hard content we can barley land any attacks due to how slow and unresponsive our attacks are.

That’s a little disheartening, but I might just try it. Hopefully a buff does come out, don’t wanna be stuck bein slow and poopy forever. :P

So what are the opinions on warriors..

in Warrior

Ronako.2315

We’re hoping. They tried last time but half of the buffs we got failed to address the real problems. Anet only seems to understand “MOAR DMG” and not dealing with things which actually mean more, like overcoming enemy protection, our sustain, etc. Then there’s stuff like dealing with annoying ranged people and mesmers. Honestly I feel like Warrior’s Sprint and similar traits should be buffed and stack on top of other speed boosts to give us another option for sticking on ranged spammers.

But what about like rifle or longbow? I mean warriors wouldn’t be on par with ranged damage, but at least pop enough skills to immobilize or stun or whatever they get. So warriors need boon/condition removal and overall speed buff?

So what are the opinions on warriors..

We’re in a good spot in PvE. In competitive modes, warrior is far from “easy mode”. In fact, I should say we are the class in most need of buffing. Easy mode fighting other players is, like you suggested, playing a class like mesmer, guardian, or thief.

So.. will warriors ever get a buff? <o<;. Lol, but thanks.

I really want to make a warrior, I like the idea of being viable melee and ranged, but apparently everyone says they’re just this game’s “easy mode”. I’m fine if they mean that in pve, I mean, it’s pve. But is that what people think about them in wvw or pvp? Are they good in both and do people look down on them still?

I don’t want the class to be like the thief and mesmer, even though I have no problem with them, people complain about them a lot. I understand that every class is hated by at least someone, but still.

I don’t want people to be thinking I’m a noob or something simply because I get bored with all the classes so quick. xD Thanks for the help in advance, by the way.

Some tips..

- Remove Lv 15 Special Trait, Shatter gives Confu
COnfuse damage is just too small imo. Not to mention if u are power based build

- If u remove Lv 15 Special Trait, Put it for Lv 10 Tough Trait
Pick Manipulation delay -20%. It will help ur blink since GS Mesmer is the worst in term of mobility.

- If possible, pick Great Sword Mastery.
So u can do double phantasms on every weapon swap. And lv 15 Power trait is good for Sword #4 (Daze)

Also you can take a look at my build for GS + Dual Sword Gameplay. So it will give u more example to think On My siggy.. Hehe…

So, pretty much I made my own build which to you guys is probably the worst you’ll ever see. But here it is.

EDIT: Some Changes made to the build

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fgAQNAR8clwzaqHTzmGadJipCE35DRHaBkUoapWJF82FC-jEDBYLERzEFQUFIEGBjIBO5pIasVNFRjVXDT7KI6XS12xDa2SOpA-w

So, I kind of REALLY need some tips on this, as I’m fairly new to this game, I don’t even really know what some things are yet, like what I put on jewelry and such.

So here’s what I’m trying to do, I’m trying to run greatsword and s/s, and I won’t exactly be shattering all the time, but I will be shattering. So I wanted to definitely have a lot of precision so I can get dem crits, to help with my damage, while also helping my phantasms and such before I shatter them. However, I also don’t want to be very glass cannon like, so toughness and vitality here and there.

So I’ve made quite a few changes, and am actually quite happy with the build, though I’m still a little skeptical on if I’m using the correct armor and weapons, I feel like I have a lot of toughness and vitality to keep me alive, and enough critical chance that I’ll be hitting it majority of the time.
