Tell us 5 weapons you would like to see

Ryoki Hokishami.2756

I’d rather see a special weapon added for each class. Something they and only they can use, with special things to do in order to craft and/or upgrade it.

Mesmer: Crystal Ball
Necromancer: Scythe
Elementalist: Rune Blade
Ranger: Claw Blades (pair)
Engineer: 1 handed Hammer
Thief: Whip
Warrior: 2 handed Axe
Guardian: Flail

+1 even though it will probably never happen. I never even thought about claws on ranger, but you could do a rampage as one beast build by becoming “feral” and attacking with your claws like your pets do. Would be pretty neat. Also, I’ve been saying engies need mace for the whole “1 handed hammer” theme, they just need it.

My topic is no longer in account issues, so I assume its considered a game bug instead. As such, i’ll keep it until a dev response or i earn 8k achieve points and unlock it in my AP panel as well, whichever comes first.

Indeed, my topic is :
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Zenith-Skin-unlocked-by-error/first#post3925584

and also, I can confirm from memory that my guardian had a kris skin on him at the time, as i unlocked that skin while playing him and just never destroyed it. It was traded in for the ward skin.

This seems like a serious bug. I don’t know what to do with the skin I got. Should i just select the ward skin when i reach 8k AP to balance things out?

This is weird. I got on my guardian to turn my town clothes into armor at the armor trader in DR, and clicked another option that popped up afterwards, which I thought was just a confirm option. Then suddenly I saw “Zenith Ward” appear in the right side next to the town clothes skins. Thing is, I never unlocked this skin via achievements, as far as I can tell, yet it unlocked in my wardrobe. Help?

Both sigils don’t seem to be working – no they are not the same family.

No way to “build” a Ranger since I have no skill at theorycrafting.

Big, big letdown and I feel tricked. Again.

Every pub run is casual, regardless of what the players themselves think.

Ok, I’m not as cool as you guys with premade. But what’s wrong with wanting to do 12 minutes cof pug run instead of 20 minutes?

I try not to discriminate the class. So I just put melee only. Out of all the runs I did this week, 5 of the ranger use bow and 1 use axe and none of them are meleeing(Even if I specfically says melee only!)

This drives me up a wall. Ranger melee is the most enjoyable way to play ranger, yet I’m the only one I see doing it in my fractal runs. Everyone just loves their bow too much to bring a GS/ Sword and an actually useful pet.

I’ll never understand the infatuation with bears, either. Why bring a bear when you can bring a vuln stacking cat or a lizard tank with burst f2? Are bears REALLY that interesting to most people?

I first heard “toon” used in Wow, probably because of the overly cartoon style of the graphics.

However, personally I really, really hate the term “toon” for “character” and do not use it myself!

Oh thank goodness, I’m not the only one. I don’t know why, but “toon” bugs the crap out of me.

Same. The art style is realism/watercolory. It drives me up a wall when people say “toon”. As someone previously stated, GW1 players call them just characters or char for short.

Why hate the zerkers

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Ryoki Hokishami.2756

Ryoki Hokishami.2756

The problem isn’t caused by the stat, it’s caused by the dungeon imbalance.

Currently, Berserker’s is ALWAYS the best solution to everything (well, maybe with rare exceptions, usually being Assassin’s) because we can bypass the difficulty by stacking/skipping etc.

If “exploits” weren’t possible, then we’d need more survivability in dungeons and thus Berserker’s wouldn’t always be the best option.

Was waiting for the “exploit” comment! Top lel.

I’m kind of divided on stacking, but it’s totally hilarious how everything is an “Exploit” to some people.

Ranger worth it or worthless?

in Ranger

Posted by: Ryoki Hokishami.2756

Ryoki Hokishami.2756

ranger is very fun to play. We cop a lot of hate because perception and bad players. and the hate is contagious

in open world pve and leveling we proberly top of the food chain (hence the large volume of bad player)
In dungeon content, we a quite good but suffer a lot of hate and may get auto kicked (i have never experienced this)
In sPvP we have a couple of very competitive builds.

In WvW we are strong 1v1 and a complement to any team up to about 15v15 and from there we deteriorate as the fights get bigger.

The only place where our worthless label is remotely justified is large scale WvW fights.

I play all classes, but ranger the most because its what i enjoy. if you want to pay the endgame content on easy mode play a heavy else play something more enjoyable.

This is easily one of the most spot on posts i’ve seen. The hate comes from the fact that WvW is the most “elitist” and most frequented part of GW2. Rangers are actually good at most things.

Also, when people ask what to play, it’s a hard question to answer. I enjoy Ranger more than any other class. That is why I play it. If you are playing a class that’s strong in the area you’re looking for, but you don’t enjoy it, why play it?

[PvP] Weakest weapon on your class?

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Ryoki Hokishami.2756

Ryoki Hokishami.2756

Hi everyone, I’ve been thinking about what the weakest kits/weapons are for the classes I play for a while. I was wondering what other people think about the weakest sets on their class.

These are my top picks for what could be improved weaponwise on the classes I play:

Ranger:

1. Greatsword: Hits like a wet noodle. The biggest hitting skill “Maul” does about the same damage as the last hit in the thief sword autochain while being extremely telegraphed.

Honorable Mention: Mainhand Axe, autoattack is pretty dreadful damage scaling, barely dealing 1k with over 3300 power. The weapon is OK in condition builds, but generally shortbow is better.

Thief:

1. Offhand dagger: Dancing dagger is pretty pathetic damage and not even guaranteed to bounce. Cloak and Dagger is a huge risk against all targets since evades and blocks are so prevalent. Compared to pistol offhand, dagger just doesn’t cut it.

Honorable mention: Pistol/Pistol, overall a very weak kit when compared to D/P or S/P. Very little synergy

Necromancer:

1. Axe: Very bad damage on the auto attack for being single target and short range. This attack feels like it should cleave. Axe 2 and 3 are alright, but nothing special.

Ranger GS is actually really good, assuming you have any crit damage and power modifying it. It’s more of an all-around defensive AOE weapon, though, but it can do close to one hand sword damage, plus the fact that it can do all sorts of things make it great. I’d switch it with mainhand axe for worst. I want to love MH axe. I really do. but the damage is just so low, even with ricocheting hits. Splitblade is totally confusing, why you need to be right the face of an enemy to do all 5 bleeds (which is the only way MH axe does decent damage) is totally counterproductive. Winter’s Bite is alright, though.

On the other hand, offhand axe is amazing.

EDIT: I should point out that Ranger GS really shines in dungeons or areas with tons of enemies. VS a player, it’s really only about the chase> stun> landing a maul before switch to sword.

DOUBLE EDIT: just realized PVP was in the title. GS really only works as a chasing weapon before switching then. Still think MH axe is worse.

If you want to WvWvW with friends, take any other class. Rangers are officially classified as useless there.

We’re okay in dungeons and spvp, easy for world pve.

You can still WvW, but you’re basically forced to roam if you want to be useful. SPVP and open world is the best thing for Rangers.

Adding flavor to titles

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ryoki Hokishami.2756

Ryoki Hokishami.2756

Suggesting that titles have boosts. Combat stat modifying boosts do not apply in PvP.
Heres a few examples:

Combat Healer:
Increase outgoing Revive Rate and Healing Power by 2%
Decrease Power and Condition by 1%

Volunteer:
Increase Magic Find and Karma Gain by 5%
Decrease Gold Find by 10%

Golden:
Increase Gold Find by 12%
Decrease Magic Find and Karma Gain by 5%

Veteran of the Mist:
Increase WXP gain by 5%
Decrease EXP gain by 5%

It’s an interesting concept, but by design, none of the limited time titles could apply for this. So like using volunteer is out. I like the idea of combat healer raising revive rate. No one uses the title, and it would add use to big raid like scenarios like Teq.

You’re not sacrificing anything. Wolf/canine pets are meta in PVP scenarios.

lol, meta. Yet another poor excuse. I do not play by “meta” and I should not be expected to in order to have a downed state as effective as everyone else’s — no other class has to play by meta just for basic survival.

And tell me how being able to fear/attack/stun an attacker is somehow worse than say, a warriors setup, who has a single stun and then must wait for vengeance, which by the time it’s ready, he will already be stomped.

Because when a warrior’s Vengeance charges they are instantly immune to execution? When a Ranger’s #3 charges they are slowly healed by a pet who can be killed and have no option to defend from execution. They are not even in the same league.

You’re just another person who doesn’t want to admit that Rangers are all about the pets, it seems. Mesmers use clones while their downed. Why is it so wrong to use pets while downed?

Right, but mesmers can stealth (which makes them invulnerable to execution for a few seconds) and teleport (which can move them to safety), and they get clones on top of that. Compare that with what you’re saying, basically that rangers need to use their pets just to get basic defensive abilities. Mesmers don’t need to use clones to achieve that.

because of the pets, rangers have the highest DPS while downed if traited for beastmastery (which I usually am in PVP modes.) Even if you’re not using a wolf, a lynx F2 while downed deals the same amount of damage, which can be substantial.

lol there is no way a ranger deals the highest DPS while downed. Some downed skills do a terrific amount of damage, including AoE damage, but ranger doesn’t have any of them. And even if pets did good damage while downed (if you want to compare with beast mastery traits you would also have to consider other classes’ trait lines that improve downed skills) pets are easily killed, negating their damage completely. Rangers’ #1 and #2 skills are among the worst downed skills in the game in regards to damage. I can experiment with the exact numbers when I get back on the game but after playing a level 80 of every class I can say that with certainty.

Rangers might not be the BEST in PVP modes, but they’re far from the worst.

They are the only ones with absolutely no way to defend themselves from executions and that makes them the worst from a pretty objective standpoint.

Why are you being so rude? really? You just want to hate Rangers, I’ve seen it before. I wasn’t even counting the output of the downed skills, mainly the output of the pet when it comes to DPS vs other downed skills. Have you seen how much damage a traited cat does, for example?

Also, pets are not “easily” killed in SPVP, if you have a brain in your head and switch them when they’re low on health.

Also, what’s wrong with thunderclap? It’s the same essentially as the warrior stun, but AOE. #1 does decent damage relatively close to most #1 downed skills like engy, except it is guarenteed to bleed.

You also missed the point of my vengeance comment. I was saying rangers can do more VS warriors up until the point where vengeance is ready, which is basically a moot point in PVP same as lick wounds because you’re likely dead by that point, barring some miracle (again, this is the same for most classes.)

Like I get the Ranger hate, I deal with it every day, but why do you WANT to hate my favorite class? Just, why exactly?

I mean I gave you tons of examples on how they can defend themselves from execution, and you go ahead and say “they have absolutely no way”, which is totally untrue, but apparently “pets dont count”, am I right? Is wolf fear somehow different from necro fear? AOE stun is apparently worse than a single target knock down? Like really, what?

And I say this as someone who loves to SPVP. Maybe you’re just talking about WVW. I don’t know. But my downed skills serve me well in SPVP, and the benefit of having a large chunk of my damage still under control while downed has won me MANY 1v1s. I have proof that it works. There is no way another classes downed skills do more damage than my downed skills +roughly 30-35% of my base damage. It’s silly to even argue this.

And go ahead and tell my pet is an “easy kill” when the majority of pets have more vitality than players (a drake for example has 40,800 health) and I can just switch it every 15 seconds. And like many non-rangers are not aware, I can switch/call target/F2/retreat my pet all while downed too. The buttons go away, but the F buttons or whatever you want to bind them to still respond while downed.

What's the biggest mistake you've ever done?

Lessee…

  • Main Ranger

Can’t have a topic without the ranger hate. Seriously though, what’s everyone’s problem with this? Didnt want to play a pet class?

I have little to no Problem with having a Pet. I have a problem with the low level of control of said pet (And the fact that I can’t have a Dolyak. I want a Blazing Dolyak). But that’s neither here nor there in this thread, and hopefully I can cross this off of my list if the CDI amounts to anything.

Back on topic, here’s a few more Mistakes I’ve made:

  • Tried to Solo a Zerg in WvW once. I don’t know what I was thinking. Probably something starting with Leeroy.
  • Once used Fiery Rush off a cliff. “Once”, ahem.
  • I no longer count the amount of times I dodgeroll into something spikey. Or on fire.
  • Did you know jumping of a cliff cleanses all conditions?
  • Once wasted 6 transmute crystals on an outfit I then later salvaged for Ectos anyway.
  • And that’s without mentioning all the dungeon tokens I’ve wasted on the Wrong armor class or Stat combination.

I can respect that. You gotta understand, I love my main, but I get a lot of flak for it, so I’m a bit defensive. And if we’re talking oddball other pets, I still want a basilisk. How great would F2 petrify be?

Some more for me:

-bought black lion keys hunting a skin, before realizing I could have just BOUGHT the skin on the TP with said gems.
-trying to play ele in PVP when I barely knew the class
-getting a worthless mini moto instead of investing in SAB skins
-Not getting more tribulation skins (COME BACK SAB PLEASE)

And speaking of dodge rolling
-Dodge rolling off a ledge at the END of a jumping puzzle.

2)
Is it bug that you can transmute starter items from different classes to your class? I saw already many people doing this.
I’m really confused now

1. Oh wow, that’s pretty bad honestly. I would be able to live with the weapons, but not that back item.
2. Anet basically acknowledged that this was acceptable, IIRC. They at least did for the order transmute trick, again, IIRC

Are you kidding me? having complete control of pets, including switching to live pets makes it incredible in all modes. Many times in 1v1s if the other player is at 10-15% health, i can finish them off with my pet. Then it becomes a downed fight, which I have never lost on my ranger. And don’t forget the CC you can switch to, like the wolf fear.

Right but examine what you’re saying here. You’re saying that rangers have to use their pet skills and even choose their pets, which are fundamentally vital to playing a ranger, just to have downed abilities that come close to everyone else’s. That illustrates just how weak it truly is. I should not have to sacrifice one or both of my two pet slots (which rangers need to make full use of to be effective in combat) to not be completely defenseless while downed. If anything, take away pet control while downed and give me a balanced set of downed skills that are on par with every other class.

And naming very specific circumstances in which the ranger’s downed skills work effectively is also not very substantial. Yeah, in a circumstance when you’re fighting one-on-one against an enemy who has exhausted all of their skills and is a few hits from downing themselves, ranger excels, woopee. Meanwhile every other class can defend themselves from multiple enemies, and evade execution in some way, without sacrificing a major part of their combat effectiveness and regardless of enemy HP.

You’re not sacrificing anything. Wolf/canine pets are meta in PVP scenarios. And tell me how being able to fear/attack/stun an attacker is somehow worse than say, a warriors setup, who has a single stun and then must wait for vengeance, which by the time it’s ready, he will already be stomped.

Underwater combat is pretty imbalanced. I love it on my ranger for my harpoon gun, but it’s because it has an AOE hard hitter, it makes everything easy. Same for engy, underwater nades are ridiculous.

I just wish there was a full underwater zone so people would care to update their items. With it they could release exotic/ascended breathers with cool new skins, many new spear/harpoon gun skins, and perhaps even some underwater only skills.

Certain coats do that, especially in medium armor. Another example would be the mender’s coat. Your gloves are showing, but unfortunately only the hand portion.

Ryoki Hokishami.2756

My vote goes to ranger. It’s my main and it’s just abysmal when you’re downed. It’s got to be the only class besides warrior that has absolutely no way to defend from the downed state. The #2 skill is like a one-second stun that hits one enemy, and that’s it. Beyond that your only hope is to wait the — what is it, five seconds? — for your #3 pet heal skill to charge. And once it does, so what? You’re still downed and you can still be executed, and your pet can also die while it’s healing you. Utterly useless in all but the lowest-level PvE.

But then if you compare to warriors, yes you have very similar downed skills, except your #3 lets you stand back up and continue fighting, AND once an enemy is killed you have I believe a 50% chance (untraited) to rally. So you’re extending the frame of time that you can be rallied by an enemy death dramatically, you’re not vulnerable to executions, you do full damage because you’re not using crappy downed skills to fight, and you’re certainly not relying on a defenseless pet to heal you. I mean where is the balance there?

Ranger’s #2 downed skill should give stealth or something, and I’d be content. If you could have a few seconds of immunity to execution and most attack skills, it would be a lot more viable to wait for your #3 skill to revive you in combat situations. It would be more comparable to the effectiveness of most other classes’ downed skills.

…with the ranger being a little better because they have access to their pets while downed.

lol, but what you’re referring to as an upside is actually a downside. The damage of ranger skills is balanced with pet damage in mind already, so a ranger is not more effective when their pet is up, it’s just less effective when their pet is down. So while you’re downed if your pet dies, you just do less damage than everyone else does. That’s not an upside.

I can confirm the opposite experience-Rangers indeed have the best downed mode for PvE. Bleeds, interrupts, and a very good chance at survival with your pet reviving you. VERY GOOD chance at coming back unless ridiculously mobbed, including boss battles. You can switch your pet while downed, so just switch to your tankier pet so that it can revive you without dying. Having played all other Professions, this downed mode is superior to both Elementalist Thief, or Mesmer for PvE, simply because barring special circumstances, often the enemies will still chase you-the pet will revive you easily even under heavy fire at times.

Well okay, in PvE being downed as a ranger is pretty choice, if we were talking about just PvE I would definitely agree. Top five. But where it actually matters, in PvP and WvW, it is abysmal. Anywhere you rely on being able to defend from enemy execution and sustaining yourself until an ally kills off an enemy you’ve tagged it could really not be worse. In PvE, enemies do not execute you and they are not smart enough to target your pet or put you in a blind AoE field, and that’s the only reason it works.

Are you kidding me? having complete control of pets, including switching to live pets makes it incredible in all modes. Many times in 1v1s if the other player is at 10-15% health, i can finish them off with my pet. Then it becomes a downed fight, which I have never lost on my ranger. Ranger is my main and we have probably the most OP of all downed states(assuming your enemy has no stability). You get downed #2 daze > swap to wolf > wolf uses kd on enemy while you’re healing > after kd f2 for aoe fear > #3 for pet heals(by this time your #2 daze is back up for another stun) > get rezzed by your pet and go down again because you play ranger(pve specific)

pretty much this. When you learn you can still control your pets while downed through button commands, it becomes amazing. Especially in PVP. Minus the "
getting downed" again part, you’re doing it wrong if you keep getting downed that much on Ranger.

Well it’s not much about races and non-humans. The other nonhumans did not assault and occupy human lands. And I don’t like charrs. They are way too much into a military parody, and they remind me of former Third Reich or former East block states from Cold war era, it was “almighty army first, people then”, too. I’m just allergic to this.
Just face it, charrs are war obsessed monsters who came and occupied human lands, murdering the original inhabitants on the way. And my character, who is a human, should support them and hear them boasting “killing these humans feels like the good old times” and “we killed thousands of them that was so good” etc., ? Just try some Ascalonian quests. It’s disgusting.

Where the heck did you get that characterization of Charr?

For one, the Charr only took back lands that originally belonged to them. Humans are in fact an alien and invasive species to Tyria. That is established lore.

Charr do not have a human outlook on life, because they aren’t human. They don’t glorify war so much as openly embrace it like an old friend. Because for them a battle is just a normal extension of their lives. For them life itself is a battle, and the only thing they can count on is their warband.

The references you refer to also get used a lot when Charr discuss the Flame Legion btw.

Oh my. No, they did not. The charr never owned Kryta or Orr, yet stormed it for the intent purpose of wiping out all the humans. As you state, humans were alien species, the last to arrive in Tyria. They took Ascalon along with Orr and Kryta to have some land, and made it into a peaceful paradise inside the walls. I’m tired of people justifying the murder of innocents with “oh this one part was a tiny part of their land so it’s ok.”

And Charr society is much like that of the spartans, which was considered wrong by most of the world. Respected, but wrong. The only truth is how much retconning Anet had to do to make the charr seem even remotely not-evil.

{Qol} Mini pet tab on the character sheet

The downside to that is that everywhere will become a mini-pet zoo. Everyone will have a pet and it will be a clusterball.

No and I have a tequatl mini-pet.

I want an alternative that doesn’t create a zoo but easier than we currently have. I want the ability to press a button on the keyboard that summons the mini-pet. This way it is easier, and we won’t have a zoo everywhere just because you can just forget about summoning it.

What? Did you PLAY gw1? All the towns were mini pet zoos, and it was glorious. +1 to the mini summon slot.

Minstrel finisher doing the wrong song?

I was so excited when the minstrel finisher was discovered a few weeks ago, getting ready to get it as soon as it was out simply for the song he did (he sings a version of the gw theme) I used to play it all the time while i was playing gw2,setting it on loop for hours.
However now that its in the game I discover that his epic song was replaced with some generic la la la la la!
Is there any possibility of changing the song to his iconic one,or at least making a new class (you can also overwrite the ranger,no one uses that class anyway :P) armed with the power of song.
To those who don’t know this is the song I was referring to:

I know there is no plan yet for legendary gear and i dont mind if this gear never come.

But if its come can u make it so that our acended gear is the precursor?

thank u

What?

Legendary gear is already in the game. Unless, do you mean like trinkets/armor? I’m confused here.

Just pointing out that rangers are not called “hunters”. Hunters are from wow. Hunters use guns. Rangers do not. And the pet mechanic makes Rangers special, giving other people pets would lessen that.

I never really post either because Anet never seems to acknowledge us until new mmos start coming out and the playerbase starts tanking, but I’ll just chip in this. Why are you making a business of REMOVING features with updates? I had a town clothing set made just for this and to find out now that mixing and matching isn’t welcome where it was actively encouraged in its early days is both laughable and horrifying.

Please, PLEASE do NOT go through with this change. I know this plea falls on deaf ears but kittenmit, I’m not ready to give up my town look. If this is truly the end, RIP town clothes, you were a symbol of a better time.

This guy knows what’s up. I love this look, why are you guys taking it away from me? Now I can’t be a stylish devil.

Can we not use this term in blog posts? I think it gives the wrong impression, especially in regards to WvW, and PvP, like you’re supposed to hunt down your fellow players, and kill them for the loot. I think it’s distasteful. The players are human beings, not anonymous, walking bags of loot. Sure, you have to kill people in WvW, and in PvP, but we shouldn’t call it “hunting.”

But, you are supposed to hunt down your fellow players and kill them for loot. They even add finishers to the gem store to make killing them extravagant.

Is there really a discussion about this?

It’s a mist WAR. WAAAAAR.

I play it to have fun.

I think most people actually play the game to have fun. Even the people asking for optimal builds in their dungeon runs.

I don’t care if someone in my dungeon group is sub-optimal. I don’t really care if i’m suboptimal.

Personally, I respect your opinion and your requirements or non-requirements for your own dungeon run. However, I think it important to realize that each and every person’s opinion is just as valid as the next person’s. So while you might not care, someone else might.

Personally, I think it is the right of the person forming the group to set the standards that people should meet if they would like to join the party.

I don’t really understand WHY it matters to so many people.

And that’s fine, you don’t have to understand why… just understand that some people find it important to them.

I think we’d have a lot less conflict if people who formed parties really took the time to write out their comments, and people who seek to join parties would read the comments and not hope and pray that the party they join doesn’t notice that they don’t meet the requirements. But people will be people.

I can respect what you’re saying there. I probably misplaced my anger there. My problem isn’t so much looking for a dungeon party. It’s when people tell me my class is garbage OUTSIDE of those situations. Some people (keep in mind, it’s only a few) aggressively hate rangers in all cases, and have no problem saying it to the player’s face, even if they didn’t start any argument.

Like an example would be where a player would ask for help with stats in map chat, or something of the like, then as soon as they say “I’m a ranger”, map chat will suddenly have people going “lol, rangers” or like “delete your character”, things that I’m used to, but are still annoying, but to new players could easily be considered abusive conduct. I’ve seen this happen. I’m not just making a hypothetical situation.

I guess my new point is: you don’t want a ranger in your group for a speed clear? That’s fine. Your choice/ the group’s choice. But why the heck do people have to chew people out for playing what’s fun when it’s literally none of their business?

I never said I hated rangers. I think that is wrong to hate someone just because of the class they play. Everyone is free to look at my post history in this thread. What I do dislike is a subset of rangers not all rangers. You can go back in my post history and see which subset I hate. Mainly the bear bow rangers.

The ranger community as a whole unlike other professions community has strait up coddled the bear bow rangers. Because at one time a large portion of the ranger community were bear bow rangers. Or people that thought just becasue ranger can use a ranged weapon than it must be a ranged class and pretty much refused to use any melee. While every other profession has both ranged and melee options. I never see eles saying I am a mage why should I use a lighting hammer? See that is my point.

Then I misinterpreted a large portion of your posts. I too hate when people argue for ranger=ranged only. Makes my blood boil. I toyed with tons of melee builds in GW1 that worked fine, in fact some, like bunny thumper hammer builds, were meta in certain forms of PVP. I much prefer melee over ranged on my ranger.

And as people have stated, trying to prove the merit of my class, well, I’ve tried that, and many people are too stubborn to listen. When mentioning the spotter/frost spirit build I get responses like “well, other classes are still better”, etc.

You can understand my frustration and why I might be a tad over-defensive about this subject.

Ranger Qs

in Ranger

Posted by: Ryoki Hokishami.2756

Ryoki Hokishami.2756

I have been playing a ranger for about 60 levels now, I am no means an expert on the class nor have I any idea what the endgame “expectation” of the ranger is. So if you you know better and want to correct me, go ahead I take no offense.
All that said, Ive noticed some quirks of the class and have some questions.

1) How do you handle conditions? I currently have healing spring slotted as my healing skill and would like to know if there is a means of condition removal that does not have obvious drawbacks.
Ie. heal spring is a fixed zone, removal traits are very condition specific, (signet?) basically cripples your pet.

2) How do you get Serpent Strike (sword 3) to land? I find that it sometimes misses on flat ground, let alone slopes.

3) What does F1 “attack my target” actually so? Assuming I don’t use it, what will the pet actually attack. Similarly, what is the difference between F3 “return” and setting behaviour to passive, besides the order for the pet to return.
TLDR – I cant figure out how the pet AI works.

4) Is there a reason why the Drake’s F2 “manual active” is a breath instead of its tail sweep? Wouldn’t it be better if the player had more control over a skill that has a combo finisher effect over one that didn’t?

5) Shouldn’t pets be stowable even in combat? that way pets can at least have a pseudo-dodge to avoid AOE attacks.

I’m just gonna answer my take a on few of these. For conditions, I don’t really have a lot of trouble outside of PVP/ WVW, in which case I just take the signet for it. For basic PVE healing spring is enough for most situations. We do need more CD removal, though.

And for the drakes f2, the breath attacks is actually one of the best attacks a ranger has for giant-sack-of-health type bosses, and the tail swipe is SEMI-controllable as a blast finisher actually. Drakes tend to use their tail swipe as soon as they are switched into, meaning you can set a field, switch pets, and almost always get the blast finisher off.

Said many things…..

This is the way it is like it or not. We have told you why people hate rangers. You can sit here and argue the community that is your right. You can play the devils advocate in saying people are allowed to play how they want regardless if it is effective or even good.

Fact remains you are free to choose whatever you want just as rangers are free to choose whatever they want. BUT guess what everyone else is free to kick you from parties and tell you to go get on another class. And everyone else is also free to tell you why rangers are hated, regardless if you accept what they say or not.

Too many people in this thread has said the same thing as me maybe not in those words to continue to deny reality. Again that is your choice. Just don’t be upset when we choose not to let rangers join us in parties. And then when we ask rangers to run optimal builds and they refuse that is their choice we have no problem inviting someone else who will change their build.

“Just press 2 to win all the dps was us because we’re a warrior and we are the best class.”

So the guy who loves his war dislikes rangers? Huh.

No, read his post. He dislikes rangers who play like morons. People want maximum dps in a dungeon group. Melee is maximum dps and always will be. This isn’t the game to be a pewpew archer and people are perfectly justified to look down on those who choose to play that way and not let them into their groups.

Some elitist people want maximum DPS in a dungeon group. I play a melee ranger, it’s clearly the way to go, but it should never be acceptable to just insta-kick people, not matter how you try to justify it.

Basically it boils down to whether you’re playing this game as a hobby or a pseudo-lifestyle. I play it to have fun. I don’t care if someone in my dungeon group is sub-optimal. I don’t really care if i’m suboptimal. I don’t really understand WHY it matters to so many people. Speed-clearing in this game is not like GW1. This game it’s just “doing damage slightly faster.” If someone’s gonna use a LB, I don’t care, as long as they don’t AFK/Leave/die a billion times.

Also, your sig quote is not immediately obvious that it’s used sarcastically. And I try to avoid the Ranger forum because of all the self-loathing that tends to happen. Sometimes, I just have to reply though.

You should never be ok with people disliking you immediately, though. It doesn’t matter what the current mindset is, that doesn’t make it right.

The title of this topic itself is essentially toxic, and doesn’t help anything, regardless what is posted in here.

Just pointing out that your sig basically explains why you’re ok with this hate. Also, I think it’s alright to be upset when people choose not to bring a single class because of misdirected bias. If you had it happen to you, you would understand.

Reasons i hate my ranger; low dps, (lately) being unable to dodge as many aoes as i used to, with the endurance nerf, and dueling.

You should try a sword/dagger bunker ranger build for dueling. It’s extremely effective.

*Disclaimer – This post assumes that builds ran by ALL classes are NOT meta, therefore the reasoning behind not hating certain classses even when they run a non optimal build.

Even without the holy trinity I still think when a group joins together, be it for a world meta event, dungeon group, fotm etc… they should work as a team, even if it is just random Pugs with assorted builds. It feels like a majority of rangers play their ranger as if it were open world, where you are solo without a team. Triple sigs, 1500 range, bear pets (Which cant tank since theres people meleeing so its not actually tanking, just doing bad damage). To me when people play like its everyone for themselves, its not as fun.

A ele ranging will at least drop water fields on me or fire fields for me to blast etc. A necro ranging can help me out dropping the wells on the mobs that im meleeing. A engi nade from 1500 range does the blinds, etc. Guardian scepter/staff, I just hope they are close enough if they ever decide to pop a stability or virtue to share it with me (Although some never do , guards are still valued), A thief range doesnt help too much but people generally realize thief can be insanely high DPS so they are turned a blind eye. Warriors, are forever grandfathered in as OP(Not saying its true but its generally accepted in community that warriors are good enough no matter what)

Rangers, even if they provide good DPS (Debateable but give them benefit of the doubt they are at least contributing “OK” DPS), is just DPS, nothing more. The bow provides bleeds and/or direct damage mostly. They have no “Spells” since they arent a magic user and “spells” tend to affect enemys and allies. They are a raw DPS/Condi class but are outperformed by the other types of DPS/Condi class: Thief/Warrior, which ive discussed why people like them. If they dont run spotter/frost spirit, it just seems like things are suboptimal, even if they are doing decent damage with a bow at 1500.

You know that rangers can constantly drop water fields and fire fields as well, right? we have one of the best water fields. Also, you can run spotter/frost spirit and NOT use a bow.

I’m really sick of these topics, all they do is spread hate. The funny thing is, rangers were in a worse place at launch, and now it seems they are MORE hated than at launch. It doesn’t make any sense. I’m gonna keep playing my ranger, it’s my favorite class and has been since GW1. However, all the misplaced hate is infuriating.

I too hate the bearbow mentality, but i’m persecuted while i’m dungeon running with FS+ sword/GS and cats/drakes/moas, depending. It’s incredibly annoying. People take this game so seriously, it’s something I’ll never understand. Play what you enjoy, it’s what I’ve always said.

Celestial after the patch

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Actually i currently have 72% crit dmg with my ele.

After the patch it’ll be around 50%., That’s a 22% lose in damage. No amount of power/pres/cd/vit/tough could make up for that in pvp terms.

Considering the general rule is max 10% for zerker… it’s far high for celestial user which contains a time BLOCK on crafting.

22% less crit damage is not an overall -22% in overall damage. Also, the 10% for zerker is 10% less damage overall. I believe the loss in crit damage for zerker is 25% or higher.

Beast Mastery: Invigorating Bond- Your pet heals in an area when executing command abilities (i.e. your F2 skill now heals in an area)

You mean pets can now survive long enough to cast their f2? It’s great you guys finally managed to pull someone away from guardian and warrior buffs to finally fix a mechanic that should have been fixed since beta, but that mechanic fix is not fast enough in most circumstances to justify this trait lol… pretty much a hail marry trait to where you switch pets and spam f2 and pray to dwayna your pet is alive long enough to get their f2 off to heal face + palm

Barring insta-kill aoes and WVW zergs, do you really have that much trouble keeping your pet alive? This trait is great for SPVP and other situations.
