Elite Spec Idea: Saboteur

Never going to happen. The Engineer along with the Revenant where rushed to meet a release deadline. So both of the classes are incomplete or just crap mechanics and skills mixed with some good ideas. How long did it take to get rid of hobo sacks? A-net moves at a snails pace and provides very little feedback. They will fix the class after a few years of complaining.

Unyielding anguish

Demon stance: Unyielding anguish, is there any reason why this skill is ground target/leap? While I like the skill, the ground targeting is a bit of a nuisance. Being that you can only target out to 600 yards and the radius in it self is 240 yards, you are really not jumping very far. If the skill had a larger range of 1000, to 1200 yards than I could understand having a ground target/leap ability. Than the leap would be a nice ground closer, and a nice ability. 600 yards though, might as well forget the leap and just make it a well ability.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I don’t like a ground targeted leaping ability, its just the range is to short, and makes the leap pointless. So I would suggest either increase the range of the leap, or remove the leap and ground targeting and make it a well.

No I did not notice, thanks. That explains the craptastic trait. I apply more poison with my auto attacks.

The trait: Venom Enhancement in the corruption tree does not work. You are suppose to apply poison each time you apply torment. I am lucky if I can even get one stack of poison to apply. How can I have 10 stacks of torment on a target with 1 or no stacks of poison?

Hammer damage

This is the issue with Hammer dps with the use of the new gyros, and this makes me wonder if any real time was spent developing the Engineer elite.

Its not that the Hammer has bad dps in terms of the weapon itself, its that what dps do you have to fall back on when your waiting for cool downs? nearly nothing. If you use gyros, you have taken away all your other offensive and defensive weapons that the kits or elixers provide. You can explode your gyros I guess than wait for long cool downs to do it again, but honestly you don’t have a secondary weapon so your stuck with a very slow hammer 1 auto attack.

The scrapper has bad dps for the dps available with gyros. The gyros need to increase dps and or better sustain the scrapper who wares medium armor by the way to last in a fight longer.

At least they got the name right Scrapper – The chars outcast who can’t hack it in the legion. I can see why. The char would just laugh at your miserable attempt at making crappy gyros and your weak hammer skills. Back to cleaning the latrine son.

So after playing the scrapper a bit more, I really enjoy the hammer.
However:

1. The block is a little awkward, but that could just be me getting used to it.
2. The gap closer needs to be smoothed out. Still feels way to clunky, and you don’t seem to hit much of anything until the last strike.
3. The auto attack is hard to land on moving targets, its just too slow. You rarely get all 3 hits on a target unless they are standing still. And the time that it takes to land all 3 attacks you would be in bad shape afterward, if not having used some other skill in between them.

Gyros are not very good. I like the shredder gyro and more so the tool belt skill. The sneak gyro has potential, and the belt skill can come in handy. Overall though no one gyro is better than any one kit. You are better off equipping kits along with the hammer. This gives you not only short melee range but also a good mid range with a good assortment of push backs, heals, cripples ext… Just depends on your set up.

A specific gyro may have a nitch roll it can fill if you need it, but to dump kits and run gyros is not good in any since. Which to be honest is disappointing, since engineers kinda wanted something to get away from running multiple kits.

So as a gamer or designer if you look at any one gyro and then look at any one kit, ask yourself would you want the 5 skills of the kit or the gyro? If the gyro’s are not as good as the kits they are to replace than why would anyone use them, unless they have some specific use for that moment or instance. Gyro’s than become more of a gimmicky novelty item rather than a useful skill.

The scrapper is supposed to be an ELITE specialization. Other than the hammer giving the scrapper a different weapon and play style, there is nothing elite about it.

A lot has already been said in regards to AI with the gyros and bad dps. It has somewhat been touched on before but let me give you some sound advice. Get rid of the jack of all trades aspect of this class and focus this class on a specific roll. If you want the scrapper to be a front line brawler than make him one. As it is now the class couldn’t stand in the front lines for more than a couple seconds before being killed.

A class that is ok at many things is never and I mean never as good as a class that is great at any one thing. You can really compare the engineer to every other jack of all trades class in any mmo ever made. They are always either OP or mediocre.

As it stands now hardly anybody will spec a scrapper. Although the hammer has got some nice new abilities, the block doesn’t really work well do to its very short range, the gap closer is too clunky, and the dps is way to low. Gyro belt skills are great, however the gyros themselves are in pretty bad shape, all of witch have been mentioned. Personally I would rather you just have the gyros out all the time or on some timer giving group or personal boons, and scratch the entire AI thing. Your AI coding has never really panned out for years, Ranger pets, engineer turrets, have been good for pve, never worth anything for spvp or WvW. Not saying that you can never get it to work, but so far you have not been successful.

How to fix the mesmer #balance

I found a fix for my problem. I had to remove the GW2 permissions from my firewall, and delete the security file, than recreate the file and reactivate the permissions. I’m not sure what changed, but my security software did not like it.

When first opening the client launcher, I began to download an update, about 3/4 of the way through the download, the client crashed. Now every time I try to pen GW2 the client crashes instantly, before the launcher even opens; no trying to download the remaining patch no nothing. As soon as I click on the short cut, it crashes. Doesn’t matter if I run as admin or not. Nothing works, something went wrong with the launcher update.

Any help appreciated.

Total Make over Kit

I bought a total make over kit for my Char from the gem store. I liked the color pallet for the hair styles. I was wanting to make a more winter style look with the dark and light blues.

I must say though I was extreamly dissapointed when you gave the color options for the hair but not the body stripe’s or coat of the char. That simply does not make sence. There needs to be some uniformity with the color of the char’s fur throught.

That may not bother some people, they may like the sharp contrast, but I don’t. I think that was a bad oversite.

Hobo Sacks: A Terrible Fashion Statement

in Engineer

Posted by: SaboD.7290

SaboD.7290

Some pretty interesting ideas here. I was actually spit-balling some ideas on how to address this today. This has always been something that has bothered me, too.

For example:

  • Have kits respect the existing back item flag. If you have a back item and you want to show it, hide the kit. If you don’t have a back item or choose to hide it, always show the kit. Obviously this makes it a little harder than usual to tell what kit you are using, so:
    • A nameplate icon similar to Elemental Attunements would be a good addition (I may add this regardless if we can get the art )
    • Move the kit somewhere else on your body. I know, crazy right? For example, who doesn’t like a sweet fanny-pack?

Hopefully this finally gets resolved soon, and I’ll do what I can to see that happen. Keep in mind, as Colin mentioned before, that there are some pretty beefy projects going on that are consuming our engineering time. But that doesn’t exactly mean we can’t sneak stuff in here and there .

-Bill

If you make my Engineer ware a fany pack i’m going to go play EvE or something.

The argument of to have a kit or not have a kit is really not the big issue. The Issue is this; Who ever thought that having a low lvl looking kit have the same appearance for the life of your character even though your gear and weapons change in appearance was on drugs or recovering from an all night benger.

I mean seriously if this is all your art team can come up with than they need a vacation or something.

Couple of suggestions

SaboD.7290

I don’t know how much of this has or has not been discussed since I have been away from the game for awhile.

These are just my opinions but I feel they would improve the game. I believe its the little things that make a game great.

Engineer: This is the class I have gravitated to the most.

1. I’m not a big fan of the look of the kits. Not only are they hoboish, but they stay the same every lvl even though your charracters gear changes and improves over time. I’m sure not everyone has the same opinion, so it would be nice if you had some skin kits available in the gem store to change their look.

2. I’m also not a huge fan of the hip shot ( with a rifle looking gun ). So again it would be nice to either change the look of your gun or have more shotgun style weapons for engineers if you continue to keep the same hip firing look in the game.

3. When using the flame thrower or elixer gun on a char, the pack hovers over his neck instead of his back.

bows:

1. It would be nice to have quivers, instead of pulling arrows out of mid air.

2. Char look odd shooting arrows. Look at the graphics between Norn and Char. Norn shoot the bow like it should be. Char draw the string sideways and still manage to shoot the arrow straight.

Weapons in general should have some type of holster or strap holding them down to your character instead of floating on your body.

What is a Guardian?

in Guardian

I don’t know guild wars lore or anything of that nature, but I am a bit confused as to what this class is.

Why does a Plate wearing class use a staff, or a septer or any type of focus weapon for that matter? Do you not wear plate because your more of a hand to hand combat profesion? Such as a knight or Warrior. Not to say they don’t have those weapons, but the guardian doesn’t appear to be that good at it.

At least from a low lvl perspective, I don’t know how they play at higher lvls.

I mean there is no rule that says any profesion can’t wear whatever they want or weild whatever weapon they can pick up, but should it not fit? Theives don’t wear plate because its heavy bulky and not what you want to use to be stealthy, and sinse they are nimble and without much armor they are not going to be weilding a greatsword. So why would a fully armored plated up knight be sitting at a distance shooting orbs out of septers and or staffs?

EPIC FIX Turrets Should be able to be mobile

in Engineer

SaboD.7290

How is it that I’m changing the post? I’m sure at first the post said fly, but mobile whatever doesn’t matter. They don’t need to be mobile. Say I have a turret build, and I drop my turrets. Once I move on, my turrets stay put. I can then move on with nothing or destroy them get my tool belt utilities back and wait for the cool downs on my turrets to use them again.

If turrets are mobile as you suggest, you will loose your toolbelt utilities, granted they are not all that great for turrets but you loose them none the less. With no cool downs I can use my turrets at one place distroy them when done and drop them down again right away if I need to. The turrets would be able to be replaced at any time at any given moment. Thefefore they do not need to be mobile.

EPIC FIX Turrets Should be able to be mobile

Turrets don’t need to fly, they just don’t need a cool down when you destroy them. That way you can use them at anytime. Arena net then just needs to then adjust the turrets individual damage and abilities to compensate for you being able to always have them up.

The real problem with the Engineer class.

in Engineer

SaboD.7290

Versitile classes or “the jack of all trades classes” don’t work. They are not competitive with any type of pure class, and nearly impossable to balance.

Take a long look at the Shamman class in WoW.

You don’t have to take away all that you have desighned for the class, just specialize the class a bit. A class doesn’t need a medioker tool for every situation, only a few good tools to get the job done.

Any words on Engineer changes?

I think maybe this thread got a little caried away on rifle dps. I myself don’t know the full dps of rifle build for engineer so I can’t speak on that. I think maybe what Scora was refering to is that our rifle skills is well boaring. Don’t get me wrong the controll is nice but it goes like this…

net shot..hip shot………hip shot……..hip shot……..blunderbuss..overcharged shot…… net shot.hip shot………hip shot………hip shot.

point is the rifle is slow and boaring. May have control, but still is boaring.

I do feel the rifle is more of a utility weapon then a main weapon. It should simply not be that way. Engineers should excell useing both rifles and pistols. No other class should be able to out dps us using a rifle or pistol. To some that may sound OP, but engineers excell at ( Engineering things) so why would they make something better for someone else?
I’m also not a big fan of the bomb kit. I know that bombs can be useful, however I feel like I’m just running from the fight instead of being in the fight. Just my opinion.

I would like to see maybe merging bombs with mines in someway to make a kit to use as defense. Wether that be point defense or personal defense. I just really don’t like the fuses where I’m running around throwing bombs over my shoulder like a mad man.

Ranger concerns.

First off all please fix the 1st sword skill slot. In pvp you can’t get out of the rotation very effectivly to finish off a player, and to be honest trying to kick someone between sword swings is kind of stupid.

I find the Ranger is a good skirmish fighter and I’ve seen a variety of ways to do it. I personaly like to use traps, sword with dagger, and short bow along with good condition damage to bleed and poison my targets to death. Dps is descent and you can be someone to fear in spvp. I do however thing that the Ranger lacks in any type of marksman build and for me that is dissapointing since a Ranger should be unmatched in this area. As a Thief uses stealth and agility to suprize and ambush at close range, a Ranger should be your sniper using distance and conrol to ambush from afar. Both having similar dps just different tacktics.

Last would someone explain the use of a long sword? I mean I understand the usefullness it has with the tallents you gain from it, but couldn’t these tallents be used elsewere in other weapons? I have never seen a huntsman, Ranger or otherwise use a great sword. They are hunters not warriors. Has anyone known of a Ranger using a Long bow and Great Sword together? Its always been short swords, or daggers that way they have room to carry their bow. Their bow is their strength not the sword.
