Gold>gems rate is getting quite ridiculous.
poke
I’d bet my life savings that this gem inflation is intentional at Anet. The price inflates, making new users turn to buying gems with money rather then the exchange rate. A player with no money coming into the game is going to think trading gems is insane. They just had their free way, so they are expecting an influx of new players.I don’t see Gems going down ANY time soon.
Gem prices will fall after Sept 1 – high demand from the Anniversary Sale is inflating gem prices. Will they go below 800/40g? Yes. Will they go back down to pre-champ/event patch prices? No.
One interesting thing to note is the crafting patch – how desperate will some players be to get to 500 crafting? Will a non-insignificant portion of the player base decide it is worth $$>gems>gold to level crafting? If the answer is yes, we might see gems drop further in price than anyone might guess.
What you’re not accounting for is that players, who normally didn’t have much, now have money. Not all the players are using the items they are getting for crafting (a lot of them are and you make a great point about buying gems to craft to 500).
Now that they have the money, they are using it to buy things like bank slots, extra characters, and convenience items.
John, correct me if I’m wrong, but gold gem conversion rate is affected by whether someone buys gems with real money and when people trade gold for gems, right?
If that’s the case, it’s going up until people spend the money for it to go down.
Other then physically destroying currencies, in real life there’s no “money” sink, as mostly everything ends up having value and no money is physically removed from the economy (except the money destroyed, as I referenced above).
This game, anything bought at a vendor, anything traded on the trading post, anything that involves trading currency with an NPC is a subtraction of the currency from the economy. This means that it’s gone, it’s literally out of the flow.
If we ignore credit (which is a huge oversimplification in the real world) this is more or less correct.
In both cases the rates are related by a simple relationship:
Accumulation = Generation – Destruction
In the real world economies, as you pointed out, the rate of currency destruction is low. That means to keep accumulation low, generation must also be low.
In GW2, generation is enormous – just look at the amount of raw gold created every time you go out to play. This means that destruction must also be enormous if accumulation is to be kept in check.
The strength of GW2’s money sinks rests on the 15% TP fee – because it scales up with the amount of money in the economy. Even T3 cultural armor is only a one time sink, and only pulls a flat amount of money out. The TP fee takes 15% over and over and over again – the game cannot generate more money than the TP fee can sink.
Secondly, as player base increases, wouldn’t inflation go down as the money is spreading out.
If the amount of money in the economy was fixed that would absolutely be the case.
It isn’t fixed, though: the rate of gold generation scales with the number of players (more players farming = more players generating gold). So if you doubled the number of players, you’d also double the rate of gold generation, and double the rate of gold destruction, and with the way these things scale you’d have roughly double the amount of money sitting around in the economy.
Can someone correct me here if I’m wrong? as I understand it, unless core components of the economy change (TP fee, where the money goes when buying from a vendor), all inflation is temporary.
You’re right that all inflation is temporary – in the real world central bankers work really hard to balance money flows to keep inflation within an acceptable range. Since WWII they’ve done a pretty remarkable job of keeping inflation in a controlled range, enough so that most people kind of understand slow, stable inflation to be ‘normal’.
But it’s all temporary. In reality there are a bunch of different market forces pulling on supply and demand on a large scale, and those are all changing over time – not just when something big changes, but as people accumulate wealth and their goals and farming patterns change. Big bursts of inflation, or deflation, in the economy these days are going to be from something changing – and recently we’ve had a lot of big changes.
Wow, thank you for that! Yes I forgot that in the real world there is finite, however in the game they can potentially generate the same amount of gold as a high generating player.
Now I see where people concerned about inflation, when a new player starts out, their generation will be based on the whites and greys they sell. If it gets out of hand they could get to a point where they are never making enough.
Gold>gems rate is getting quite ridiculous.

I have a question for the people knowledgeable in Economics:

To answer your question. We do not know if there is already a slow constant inflation, since we do not know how much gold gets destroyed in the TP and Merchants versus how much gold generated. I suspect a very low inflation rate in this game but it persist.
Inflation could be or could not be temporary due to another factor, the supply of the goods. If people feel certain activities is more attractive, but that activities take them out of the production loop. You will face a shortage in that materials, and you will see price hiking. Prices hiking translate into inflation.
Makes sense, I would like to ask, since the materials we are talking about are crafting material, for the most part, it will always be necessary (unless they never touch crafting again and do not make the 1 to 400 leveling important in any way)
Therefore, while the price hike will occur, it will still be temporary. I guess the price will inflate, but not by much, because there will always be people gathering some type of mat.

and you think this isnt control.. after posting this
i see i’ve made a mistake posting here, i’m out
Mostly because you have a difficulty making complete sentences. English might not be your first language, but don’t go into your second language arguing something you can’t back and then run away. It’s silly in any culture.
Suspicious saint is suspicious. How did you baught something?
no vol, ppl will buy them because there is almost no other chance to get one – not because the prices were “undervalued” (wtf)
if you guys think this is ok, fine – i don’t
and no, i am not jealous
Well then that’s the price they are willing to pay for it! Doesn’t matter the reason behind it, whether it be a ‘reasonable’ price or they are desperate. If someone buys it, that’s the equilibrium.
I know you probably want to buy precursors for 10 silver each but when there are thousands of players willing to pay more than you, there is absolutely zero reason why a seller should pick you. They will pick the highest bid.
At least he’s complaining about economics and learning about it here instead of going out and voting based on this knowledge.
At least I pray he does…..
Another guildie of mine also has 250,00g+ and says he cannot control most markets.
I feel like your entire post was “GG LOLANETBAD”
Bump for follow up, Copied this in post:
Replaced the power supply and it is successfully running. No issues as of yet.
Kk, yeah you’re the third person to give this assessment. I’ll check my PSU cables. I do not have a voltmeter. How much do those normally cost?
most likely solved: Replaced the power supply and it is successfully running. No issues as of yet.
Hi everyone!
Since the latest update, I have been unable to play GW2 consistently. It’s at random, but between 10 minutes and 2 hours my computer will restart. It does not go through a shut down process, it will flicker as if you cut the power (although the lights in my computer do no flicker) I figured this was over heating, so i cleaned out the computer with compressed air thoroughly and tried again. Same issue. Note: There are no error messages to report. No BSoD and no GW2 in game errors.
Previously I was doing duel Monitors. I would watch vimeo, be in voice chat, and have my gw2 windowed. I lowered my graphics setting as this continued and unplugged 1 monitor. Still it did not fix anything.
I plan on uninstalling and reinstall GW2. Any other suggestions?
Here are my specs, I’ve been told it could potentially be a power issue, however i’ve been playing duel monitored for about 4 to 5 months without this issue. All started with the graphics update/reset (yes I did change it back/lowered it significantly):

Thanks for the feedback everyone and please keep it coming. Personally, I find that one of the hardest parts of being a desginer on GW2 Live is coming to terms with the fact that not every update will please every player. We do our best to deliver appealing content with enough variety to keep as many people as satisfied as possible. And If there’s one thing we can do consistently, it’s improving the experience of said content each time. I think we made some great strides with the Jubilee. I think we have a lot of room to keep growing. But our team isn’t done yet. We’ve got some exciting things coming later this month. Things you’ve never seen in this game before.
But in the mean time, please keep telling us what you’re thinking. We are listening. Not only to what you’re saying but also to what you’re not. The very first living world team actually did the thing some of you have called for. Some 40 or so permanent events were added around the game in our very first content update. They were met with little interest or fanfare. Granted, Halloween may have stolen the show. But those events are still in the game today. I’ve seen very little reaction to them, however, positive or negative. Despite this, there are many events I would still like to add. Many zones and bosses I would love to revisit. As we get better at the living world, I strongly suspect we’ll have room to get around to them as well. Assuming that’s what our players really want. You are all the second half of the collaborative process, so thanks for helping!
Hi Anthony, I hope you see this!
I love this game and have been playing it since beta and launch. I’ve continued towards learning what I can about this game and plan on playing it for a long time.
Your comment intrigues me because of this reason: I have not been aware of this new content.
Now, this doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. What it means is lack of player awareness. I realize you don’t want to give away secrets and that’s fine, but you don’t even allude that you have secrets. Also, as you can see, when the internet is told there is a secret, it pretty much explodes with people wanting to discover it.
Players need to be made aware of the new content, not because they are lazy, but as you have seen even millions of players don’t always notice these things.
Keep up the good work, it’s making me spend money!

We have some crazy talented people in our cinematics department.
Tell them good job on the Raybands on Rytlock. I was dying.

So the majority of this game works very well, however I am encountering a crashing bug. I’m putting it here as well as in tech support to see if I can get an answer.
The client will crash at random, sometimes it’s when I load the actual client, sometimes in game. I’ve been in Dredgehaunt and this has happened, and now it’s crashing at the Mists, specifically when I spvp. I’ve never had any other issues and I have a top of the line computer. I’ve done the repair function, doesn’t change anything, and a complete reinstall. Thoughts? I’d love some Customer support response as it really doesn’t seem to be on my end.

What both sides of this “discussion” need to understand is that there are two very different groups that are meeting in the same game, with conflicting experiences and expectations.
Veterans of GW1 are used to the notion that full-party wipe means restarting from the beginning. Also, it means you’re out an entry fee to the dungeon. We’re used to the idea that not everybody does everything, or has the ability to do everything, and we’re fine with that (for a long time, access to two elite PvE dungeons was restricted to one guild alliance each, determined by largely PvP-oriented efforts). When you do accomplish something, however, you have a way of showing this to the world. Prestige armor, titles… there was a way to show the world that you worked hard, and after months of dedicated effort, reached a goal. I’m in this camp.
Then you have the players migrating from “more traditional” MMOs. Most people don’t remember life before WoW, so that is what I will reference. Dungeons are mandatory. A long time ago, they were the source of “good” gear. Not “great,” just “good.” Then something changed. Dungeons were made more accessible to everybody, and formed a sort of progression. After reaching the cap, this is what we were expected to do to get upgrades. Because we were expected to do it, it had to be within the reach of the casual, unorganized players. Players returning from canceled accounts also had to be accomodated—we needed a leg-up in getting back into the current content. The end result was that dungeons were a chore (chore meaning it is the result and not the process that is important), and the rewards important. I’m in this camp, too.
The middle ground that GW2 reached is that dungeons are hard. That is how they are meant to be. If you want casual content for your friends, form a group and do DEs—I do it with my family all the time. Dungeons are harder, but you don’t get any better gear from them. These are GW1-style dungeons, with concessions to WoW-style plyers (waypoints, chance to recover from a wipe, etc.). I remember fighting to the very end of a GW1 dungeon, only to realize that I had forgotten to bring a certain skill. Back out to the beginning we go. This was not a hardship; this was the price of carelessness.
Just because it is not what you wanted, does not mean it is bad at being what it is. And just because it is what you wanted, does not mean that others should not expect their desires to be met by the content.
I’ve followed GW2 news for a long time; I knew what to expect in dungeons for a long time, and it excited me. A lot of people coming to GW2 have not and default to expectations based on prior experiences.
e have very different communities merged together here—to some PvPers, “gg” is a sign of respect for one’s opponents in a well-fought battle, regardless of the outcome. To others, it is a taunt for a bested opponent.
I hope to one day obtain a legendary, but I don’t know that I will ever make it. If I don’t, it just means that the legendaries that other people have mean that much more—these are people that have endured a rite of passage, put in time and effort, and walked away with a reward. And it won’t affect my ability to enjoy the game, because I still have a goal to work towards, and there is no functional difference between their character and mine. It is that last part that makes the system work: that excessively rare gear is no better than an exotic that can be crafted for ~2g in materials. It is a title.
This is perfect right here. If I never got an exotic, so be it. If the content was too hard for me to complete a dungeon with the time I have so be it. I’ve njoyed the $100 I’ve spent, and I plan to enjoy it more. It’s only been out for 1 month and I’m not even 80 yet. I don’t understand this need to faceroll everything.
Also what is this kitten reference? I’m trying to figure it out but the context changes so often.
It’s anets profanity filter
It all makes such beautiful kitten sense now.
Also what is this kitten reference? I’m trying to figure it out but the context changes so often.
I’m not an elitist, I truly madly deeply believe that if I can finish all the dungeons that I have finished, so can you…if you try.
This is not helping. Of course I can when I try. I am usually pretty good at those things, but I don’t want to try.
Then you shouldn’t be complaining really, right? Do events with your friends. Do jumping puzzles (Spent 3-4 hours on one in Orr). Do each others’ personal stories together. You can’t ask for dungeons to be dumbed down to a point of not trying. SM is pretty close at some points where it’s got no real difficulties and requires zero party cohesion.
It’s understandable you want to do what you want with your friends and such, but to say something like you just want a relaxed experience is clearly stating dungeons in any fashion are not your style, nor should they be catered to that mentality.
I don’t even…….seriously. Entitlement at it’s finest. Yandere you’re playing the WRONG game if you don’t want to try and still get stuff. If you got it you’d be the same person complaining that the content is boring. Do you not see how Anet has this set up? They make it hard so you play for the long haul, the long you’re playing the higher chance of you spending real life money. I love this game and know that’s the set up they have. Get use to it or get a new game to eventually be bored with.
I’ve been watching the topics cycle for about a week now and it’s all about the difficulty of the dungeons. I understand that this is hard for a lot of people, it’s not easy for me either, but we are now getting to the point of constant complaint instead of figuring out strategies. If they have no intention of changing it, I’d like to figure out how to beat it.
I’m looking for a strategy website, youtube links, things like that which show how the dungeon runs went. My goal is to start throwing together how people got through the dungeons.
So community, can we compile resources? I’m getting sick of the whining.
So I just joined this guild recently and I’m trying to find their website to register. Can anyone help?
Time for Less QQ, more strategy,
Post your questions on strategy in the dungeon and answer one if you know it. Whether you think the dungeons are fair or not, we’ll have to do deal with them for the time being (if not then I don’t understand why you’re reading)
My question to start it off: Colossus Rumblus
What techniques did you use to AOE down the burrows while keeping alive? I’m assuming having one crystal will be enough.
How has this worked when you run a thief with AOE stealth? The focusing part that you’re talking about has never really been a problem with me or others. Guardian goes into down state and there I am throwing an AOE stealth and getting them back up rather quickly.
Thanks, feel free to friend!
Lucky, so how did you get the 5th barrel down?
How do you do with the instantly respawning people in CM? I we tried AOEing them down and they just instantly respawned.
For those who want to say “man up and learn it yourself” feel free to post and show the world how much you love wasting your own time.
Anyways, I was in Caudecus Manor doing explorable 2, the one saving the Seraph. We get to the barrel part and fail horribly. Can someone explain, in exact detail, how to get all five barrels there? The mobs infinitely re-spawned and had a gigantic aggro distance so we could de’aggro them for about 15 minutes. Whenever you put a barrel down is spawned multiple bandits. I put one down and I think about 4 to 5 spawned. We had to give up because we did not know how to beat that part.
Second, AC Explorable during Colossus Rumblus. Collecting essence. How much AOE do you need to bring and where? Yes I need to ask here because I doubt we’d be able to figure it out.
Thanks for all the helpful answers.
As a huge dungeon fan i can see the magic to be made here.
