Wu Jiao, Necro Extraordinaire! Go Team Death!
(Still only level 25, so no fancy weapons yet)
I had to comment @ Cristobal.8640 images. Very cool and creepy, reminds me of Pan’s Labyrinth. Especially the second image. Now on to the one above me
4/10
Cute. We’ll say your a Necro in training and that’s your school uniform
Here’s mine which was inspired by Dracula before he became undead and was better know as Vlad the Impaler. I like to call my Necro the angel of death .
For me, I’ve always played a dark wizard in any game. Even back when I played Diablo I chose a Necro then too, so Necro just fit’s perfectly for me. I’ve been playing Necro since pre-launch and while I don’t have 2 lvl 80’s, my Human Necro does have about 5 different armor set’s, various stats and look and working on my second set of ascended trinkets. Currently for the past 4 months I’ve been loving power Necro (even before the big update). And I can’t wait to see the new possible changes to the blood magic trait. I of course have an armor set that make me feel like Vlad the Impaler aka Dracula
The thing I like most about Necro’s is my ability to manipulate condi’s with epidemic, Dagger #4, Staff #4, corrupt boon, and many others.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Karka_Egg_Omelet
I might be the only one that likes using this, but I’ve notice that other food bonus with a similar ability will indicate an icon after the kill for the 30 second duration. The Karka Egg Omelet does not. Can we get a fix please
Title says it all. I haven’t enter the world yet so not sure if this is a 5 man group thing or it’s meant to be solo. I have a lvl 80 but if you don’t need them then I was going to use one of my lower lvl guys. Thanks
Eveything concerning celestial items is account bound. Charged quartz, inscriptions, final product, everything.
Now you see, that’s the answer I was looking for, was that so hard. Although the first response did the same in a more simplistic way. Didn’t need an arrogance reply there after.
Everything is account bound (you should have honestly known that already)
But in crafting an item. I’ve crafted stuff before and sold them on TP this is the first time I’ve come across crafting an item and it was account bound. So No not everything is account bound.
So Today I crafted a Celestial Orichalcum Imbued inscription. After crafting it I saw that it was account bound. What the heck!? Are we not able to sell it on the TP? And what about the weapon or armor we create with it. Are they also account bound?
Yeah Necro’s are good at soloing. Having it be my main since launch, I know that story mode can be somewhat difficult for any light armor class to solo. I would recommend to wait until your a few levels above the current story mode level and if you completed all the hearts that are you level in your area. Then you should go to another low level starting area of another race and do the hearts there that match your level. This will also help with map completion in the long run.
Also, for the sake of streamlining targetting, and this might certainly affect balance, can stealth be changed to hide but not lose targetting? So when a targetted opponent comes out of stealth, it’ll automatically target them again if they were the last targetted foe. And mayben to not be so harsh to thieves and for the sake of some extra strategy/ defense, stealth could only drop targetting completely if the stealthed character moved far away from their opponent.
Introduce a target lock option where you always target a certain opponent as soon as they pop out of stealth or clone.
You reduced any non-mesmer/thief players into mouse clickers. That is a big advantage to the opponent.
I don’t see how it’s fair that a mesmer/thief never loses a non stealthing/cloning class as a target while everyone else does.
The imbalances in this game are just out of control.
As a full time Necro player I have to disagree to both of these post. The whole premises of a stealth skill is that you lose your visual target and thus not knowing where they will reappear next. So you should not get an automatic re-target on that player. That would make it to easy to fight against a thief or mesmer. This sounds to me like a more L2P issue with the game mechanics. One needs to understand stealth in order to counter it effectively. Know that you can still hit a stealth player. Know that all conditions still effect a stealth player. Know that if you begin a skill that channels damage it will continue to channel once they’ve jumped into stealth. Know that Aoe’s are a stealth players nightmare. I’ve played against many of thieves that tried heartseeking me and failed. Only to have me come back hard at them and they have to stealth to get away. And sometime I’ll find they come out of stealth in a downed state
And this is coming from a primarily power Necro.
Yeah, I don’t think Necro’s have an instant blind other than throwing down WoD before hand for a constant blind for 5 sec. Even then it’s probably not guaranteed
I believe I’ve seen some thieves do this to me and pull of a stomp. As a Necro with very little access to stability, no invulv, blah blah blah you know the rest. I know we have some sure fire ways to get a stomp off but it requires using an elite an then you have a 3 minute CD just to pull off another guaranteed stomp. So can blind be used as an effective, I know not guaranteed but still an effective measure to get a stomp off?
You could put the last 10 in Soul Reaping if you don’t already have Soul Marks. Gives you 3% LF when marks are triggered. That’s assuming your first master trait was Master of Terror
Thanks for confirming that for me. I’m just torn in taking either WoP or Plague Sig for the stun breaker and a way to cleanse Condi. They both have there pros and cons just not sure which I’d prefer overall.
I like flesh wurm but I would like to see the poison and blast finisher at the necro’s feet as he teleports away. Makes more sense since everyone uses the flesh wurm as a range dps and never throw him in the middle of battle just to pull off the blast finisher and poison. If left at the Necro’s feet at the moment of teleporting it can leave a nice gift to those still standing in his last know position.
So I’ve been thinking of adding this to my power build. It gives me a 1 sec stability and it’s a stun breaker. My question is… is the overall effect of well of power, which is it converts Condi into boons over a 5 second duration on each 1 second pulse. Does it convert all condi or just one for each pulse. I’m assuming the latter but I haven’t tested it myself yet.

Hi, I’ve been playing GW2 since Pre-Launch weekend almost a year ago. I’ve played PvE, WvW and PvP. I enjoy PvP much more then the others, which is why I’m now actively looking for a team. Not looking to join a guild, as I already have one with some RL friends, but they are more of a causal type of players and are not looking to do any serious kind of PvP. I’m currently Rank 25 and all of that was with my Necro. I can play condi or power. Although I do prefer power, it’s just a more enjoyable play style for me over all. My hours of practice can be flexible in the evening PST after 6 pm and weekend can be very flexible. Practically all day for the most part. I have TS3, Vent and Skype, hit me up either in game or here if even just for a try out, I’m game. Thanks for at least taking the time to read this and possibly consider me.
When I ran a power/well build I went 30/15/10/0/15 that was pre-patch. Haven’t messed around with my power build after patch. I enjoyed this build a lot. With this build I ran axe/warhorn and d/d. I mainly do tPvP and I enjoyed charging into battle and axe #3 for cripple and retal. Then warhorn #5 for swift and cripple, then drop wells jump into DS for #4. Dropping wells would also give me protection and jumping into DS would drop weakening shourds and give me furious demise. It’s a nice burst damage on more then one guy. While your incoming damage has been minimized by protection and weakening shourds. But once your done, get ready to dance, you just became public enemy number #1 hahaahaa
Well now I feel like a kitten for not thinking of that first :P
So I thought when in plague form I’m granted stability for the duration right?
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Plague. So then why was I just feared 3 times in plague form. Has anyone else experienced this? It’s never happened before with fear, immobilize sometimes but not with fear.
I’ve been playing Necro’s since pre-launch and have seen the ups and downs of our profession, mainly downs. Before last patch Necro’s was far and few in between, because we had NO mobility (which was a lot of peoples complaint), no survivability. And we would constantly just got face rolled. New players would get frustrated and just pick another profession claiming we are broken. People got use to that fact about us and those of us that stuck around with the profession had to adapt with these limited faults. Now we get some love which makes us more viable in the field and people are like WTF!? That’s not suppose to happen, I’m suppose to face roll you!
After patch a buddy of mine would ask me how do I like my new OP Necro. And every time we’d run together he’d say I was OP, OP this OP that. Eventually after a few days he said it best. “I don’t really think that Necro’s are OP. It’s just you would hardly ever see any of them and now there everywhere. And no one really knows how to fight one.”
I’m sorry to those that think that we are OP! But as a Necro form the very start I had to learn to survive stuns, 100b, 1 shot backstab. shatter mesmer, stealth, D/D ele’s, condi ranger, condi engi’s and bunker gaurdians. And believe me, I’ve been faced rolled many times by all of these different builds. I’ve had to learn to adapt and change my build around. And now so does everyone else with the new Necro. Everyone wants to complain about the new Fear/burning combo, but because fear is consider a stun and a condi. You can easily cleanse or stun break out of it. They’ve also recently “fix” Sigil of paralyzation to not work with fear, so everyone out there still has Runes of Melandru and any other that effect stun reduction duration against our fear. Bottom line is, I’m just saying that people need to learn how to face a Necro now. And once they do, they’ll realize hey their still a little squishy in the end.
Yeah as a Necro I won’t waste all my marks at once. I might spam 2,3 but 4 and 5 depends on the situation. In regards to the whole “Is Fear a Stun or Condition” debate, I only hope that if they are going to “fix” sigil of paralyzation against fear. Then they should do the same with runes of Melandru and any other runes with similar effect against stun reduction duration
Spectral walk should work as I use this all the time for some of the more difficult jump puzzles. Not sure about Wurm teleport, worth a shot to experiment.
Also:
- All elite player transforms (racial and profession) now have a 1-second cooldown on leaving them. This was done to prevent unintentionally leaving through double-clicking.
So glad! Too often I would spaz-click F1 and just flash in/out of DS unintentionally.
NOooooo!! As a powermancer I constantly flashed in DS to drop enfeebling blood, gain fury and start striking with my daggers. Oh well, not complaining just have to adapt. I am drooling over WoP, now a stun breaker and a 1 sec stability! I’m liking the changes overall. Thank you Anet
You can still DS flash, it only affects elite transforms, also says so in the change

Excellent, I guess my excitement of all the changes has got me miss reading certain things

Well it looks like you have some pessimistic and some optimistic people in here about the cut scene. I am one of the optimistic ones that really enjoyed it. In fact I was running with a guild member and we were both on Vent. We were trying to knock out the achievement for the wings when we came across the cut scene. We both had nothing but good things to say about it. I was very impress, so much so that even after receiving my holo-wings for the achievement I continue the story to the end. Normally once I received my reward I’m done and moving on to other things., but not this time. This time I was invested and I wanted to know what else happen. Now I’m excited for the patch today and sky pirates . I applaud you Anet!! Keep up the great creative work. And to those pessimistic one… Well, I guess you just can’t make everyone happy now can you.
Yes!!!! I was getting worried there for a minute. I was like WTF!? I can only hear Bhawb, but now I can hear you both and you’ll make my work day go a lot easier. At least for the next hour

So it’s a 50/50 that you’ll get the short CD or the Full CD?
So I was just playing in tpvp and battling some peep’s. During the onslaught of the fight I tried to pop into Lich form but was interrupted. Now being interrupted doesn’t bother me, it’s part of the game. But if I’m interrupted while casting Lich form, shouldn’t my elite go on a few second CD? If so, that was not what I experienced. My elite skill went for the full duration CD of 180 sec and I never got to pop into it. Is this a bug or is this normal? I’ve always thought if you where interrupted while using a weapon skill, utility or elite skill, your skill went on a few second CD. At least that’s been some of my observation and maybe I have paid that close attention. Could someone explain Interrupts and the CD?
There are 5v5 spvp and you can filter your search so that’s all you see. It’s what I’ve done and prefer. I won’t jump into an 8v8 because of the zergfest. Personally it’s why I left wvw and jumped into pvp, I get to actually play the game. I’d say do the spvp 5v5 if your just soloing or want to practice a build. If you have a full on team then jump into tpvp as it would be hard to get your team together in spvp. I also solo in tpvp and do just fine.
To Bas & Bhawb,
You guys are amazing. Thank you for the awesome information and the great job you guys have done for the Necro community. I’ve been playing since the 3 day Pre Launch and rolled a Necro from the start and haven’t stopped since. In between that time and now there have been some dark days playing a Necro. And when I would search these forums for help they were even darker. Then I found some of Nemesis videos and he brought some hope. Maybe this class isn’t as broken as most like to believe. Then you guys came out with But of Corpse podcast. And with your interviews with some of the top players have been mind blowing to say the least. You guys brought back hope and enjoyment back into the game for me as a Necro player. I just wanted to say thank you for all your hard work and efforts to change peoples perspective. Including mine, that was definitely being swayed with all the negative post that was once riddle on here. Keep up the stellar work you guys are doing and Bas, you and your soothing voice will be missed hahaha. I’m sure Gibbly will make a fine replacement.
Oh and one question. I already belong to a guild in blackgate, can I represent 2? I know you can’t do it at the same time. But can one switch back and forth with out having to deleting one? If so I would definitely join you guys on your next round of event’s and represent
Thanks again,

Did you complete your monthly PvE first. If so then you can only get one or the other.
In this week’s But of Corpse Necromancer Podcast, your hosts Bhawb and Bas sit down and talk with Skyro. Skyro was brought in to talk tournaments and Death Shroud. Throughout the podcast Skyro lectured and encouraged about the proper use of Death Shroud, and even taught our hosts a few things about the class.
After the podcast was over, we asked Skyro if he would be interested in doing a BOC Presents: Death Shroud Tutorial. He agreed, and we are working on putting something together for all of our followers.

So I’ve been listening to your podcast. And let me just start out by saying Thank You!! Thank you for all your work and great information you provide us Necro users. I’ve been playing a Necro since GW2 launch back in August. I’ve always picked a battle Mage or Necro type class in other games. Even before the game came out my friends already knew that I was going to pick this class.
Since launch, the Necro has been my main. I do have two other alts that I rarely play only because I enjoy the Necro game style to much. But I will admit that there was a dark cloud over my Necro life for a period. I don’t venture into the forums to much but when I kept dying in WvW and getting frustrated with other classes mobility. I would scourer the forum looking to see what others were doing and seeing if maybe I was doing something wrong. What I found was similar complaints and I soon started to agree with others that maybe my class was broken. But I didn’t want to give up hope on my Necro class. I soon then discovered Nemesis youtube tutorials and he reignited my fondness of the class again. Help me to rethink what the Necro can do. And now with your guys podcast, you’ve help me rethink the game as a whole and made me realize all of my available option as a Necro. And now the forums are full of help information and interesting debates. You’ve guys have done a great service to the Necro Community and I just wanted to thank you and keep up the great work. I look forward to hearing all your future episodes.
It’s based on your Power stat.
198.45 + (0.075 * Power)
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/RetaliationMy opinion is that Retaliation is, most of the time, a complete waste of time. It does low damage, and only works if I’m getting hit.
Edit: I tried this build out in Orr, just soloing mobs. I didn’t rune it, but just used my current PVT gear w/ Soldier runes. It’s very, very tanky. The damage is fairly terrible, and the wells have too long a cooldown to be worth bothering with. Retaliation, even with 50% uptime, wasn’t really doing enough damage to bother bringing. Definitely not worth bringing 2 traits for.
Cool idea, but it just doesn’t work very well.
Thanks for posting the formula for retaliation. Yeah, once I saw how low the damage was from it, I would agree too that it’s not worth it in the long run. If only retaliation redistribute some serious damage, then this would have been I nice idea, and something to consider, especially for an attrition class.
So here’s a thought. Don’t know if this has been discussed before to be viable or not.
A 10/0/30/0/30 with weapons and armor being PTV. Runes in armor being Superior water, Superior monk, and Major Sanctuary. The first 2 gives 15% boon and the 3rd giving 10% boon. Giving us a total of 40%, plus having 30 in death magic will give us an additional 30% to a total of 70%. This would increase our Stability from 3 seconds to 5.1. Now we would have the ability to get that 5.1 every 10 seconds. For Weapons I would take staff and A/F. These weapons plus the traits I pick are heavy in protection, retaliation and regeneration for boons, which will also benefit from the boosted duration. My question would be this, and I hope someone could answer in regards to retaliation and protection. While protection is giving me 33% less damage. Does my retaliation redistributes the damage back to it sender for the full damage or the 33% less damage that I’m receiving? If it does full damage back to the sender then I can see how this build could have some legitimacy.
Spite:
V – spiteful spirit
Death Magic:
II – greater marks
VII – spiteful vigor
IV – Ritual Protection
Soul Reaping:
IV – Spectral mastery
V – Soul Mark
XI – foot in the grave
For Utilities, given the theme of this build I would focus on Spectral and Wells. Haven’t decided what would complement each other well. Let’s take a closer look at some with the add boon duration. With spectral mastery we also drop CD by 20% so Spectral Armor now has 72 CD and a 10.2 protection. Spectral Walk would be a 48 CD and a 51 swiftness, giving one perma swift. Spectral wall is a 32 CD and 8.5 protection. Spectral grasp would not benefit from this build other than the shorten CD. Moving on to Wells, With Ritual Protection giving one 3 sec of protection for each well’s is a nice added feature. Especially now that the 3 sec is 5.1 and stacks in duration with all other Wells. With spiteful vigor we are also getting 8.5 of retaliation, so when dropping a well of blood we’d get a quick retaliation and protection not to mention some healing. Well of corruption would give you boons and strip the enemy of theirs and applying conditions. Well of Power would give you a nice set of boons depending on how many conditions you may have. Jumps into DS at any time and get 5.1 retaliation plus 5.1 of Stability and that can be done every 10 seconds if you wish. I think one can see the potential of the high stacking boons, but please share your opinion or criticism. I threw this together while at work so I may have left out some good or bad points to this build.
Thanks you
Aesthetic reasons – yes, yes, I am shallow.
Sylvari does nothing for me: they’re all these faux-Brits and they’re all walking vegetables.
Charr has never appealed to me simply because they’re giant cats. With horns.
Asura… aside from their animations (which are awesome), they remind me too much of gremlins.
Norn? I have two norn, but what draws me here is that they’re basically very human-esque and have an interesting culture (if somewhat stereotyped).
Lol!! I so agree with this opinion. As a matter of fact, I play with a bunch of RL friends and they all run Asura and they make fun of me for being the only human. My response has always been "I don’t care to run around as some stinky gremlin. "
I’m currently sporting the Avenger’s for my Necro. I’m liking the look, it makes me feel like an angel of death, Muhahahaahaa! Other Staff on my wish list that to me have a Necro feel are Orge warstaff, deathwish and final rest. The current legendary just doesn’t appeal to me at all :p
My favourite color scheme, it isn“t pure Arah armor, but most of it.
This is pretty good! You mixed CoF with Arah and the combo works really well. I like it, nice job
There’s nothing majorly wrong with Necro’s in dungeons (Heck I use mine as full zerker in melee in a lot of dungeons)
It’s just that people tend to favour using Warriors, Guardians and Mesmers in dungeons because those 3 classes are very strong in PvE (Warriors throwing out huge damage, Guardians being really tough to take down and providing AoE boons and Mesmers bring very nice support skills) and people, like electricity, take the path of least resistance (A.k.a. being lazy and want to just steamroll through content)
I agree with this statement. People are just being lazy and are looking for what they believe is the most optimal and efficient class for the run. I’ve been running a Necro since the game started and is still my main today. I run CoF constantly and just avoid these groups that are looking for fast runs. Not to say that we can’t do a fast run either, my guild mate and I have done CoF path 1 in under 15 minutes with my necro all the time. Best thing to do is find a guild that will not find your necro as a crutch, because we’re not. And just avoid those farm groups. Before LFG.com, I rarely got kicked, but if I did I was able to find another group fairly quickly that didn’t care that I played a Necro. Heck, I’ve ran with some group were we we’re all squishy class and had the most fun. Just don’t let those groups discourage you and look for a solid guild that will not care that you main is a necro.
I Love Axe and wanted to do a build just for it, but its range is limited. I do love running CoF with an axe and see high number from 4500 to 6500 with axe #2. I would agree that adding an extra 300 range to it would make all the difference in the world. Even though axe #1 is a slow auto attack I still love #2 and #3.
