I can’t help but feel a bit amused at reading every “RTL was OP” comment. The activation did not initiate an invulnerability. In fact, whilst in RTL, said player was not immune to damage and/or crowd control effects. It was never overpowered. Period. Especially when compared with the escape/engage mechanics of competing classes.

Celestial is far from being the “worst sets you can have.” Before committing to something, I’d suggest scouring the forums for a few more threads/posts. There are quite a few Elementalist experts on deck, at least enough to give you a better shot at fine tuning your preferences. Daphoenix and Neko are just a few that come to mind.

Good luck!

Daphoenix’s recommendation with celestial is for WvW, not what the OP is asking for.
In Neko’s guide, he recommends zerker gear like the rest of the dungeon community.

In dungeons/fractals you should really get used to using full zerker’s so you’re not a liability to the team, most would also tell you to forgo PVT altogether so you don’t develop bad habits and learn faster if you jump right into zerker gear. Despite what people may say, in normal dungeons as long as you are dodging the major hits. In open world, you can simply tag things with auto-attack and gear doesn’t matter as long as you’re in a party. Full zerker’s + Dagger Mainhand’s Lightning Whip is your best bet at tagging mobs if zerging pve events solo.

Wild assumptions on my build and/or style of play aside, it comes down to balancing for group compositions and personal preferences. More importantly, however, I’ve found that a balanced build is generally more suited to my style of play. Speaking of liabilities, a player is also a liability if he/she is spending half of their time in a downed state.

As for Daphoenix’s builds, you may to want to check his website. He does not single out WvW as the only place for Celestial stats. At last glance, his optimal builds for both WvW and PvE revolve around celestial builds. Unless of course he is secretly lying to us about his calculations and his builds. Not impossible but unlikely.

Note the differences between Neko’s and Daphoenix’s builds. Two knowledgeable players with uniquely different solutions. Does that make one better than the other? I don’t believe so. Those differences denote a varied approach to the same problem. Simply put, save but a few standard staples, they have tailored their traits/gear according to their likes and dislikes.

On a side note, if there was PvE content that unequivocally demanded min-maxing to the nth degree, I might understand the fetish for Berserkers. That may happen when and if raiding is introduced. That’s a topic for another day, however.

Shoddy and/or lazy design. Adding a new set of recipes instead of resetting those already discovered would have been a more creative solution. There’s unwavering support and then there’s the umbrella of rabid fanboyism; the latter excuses anything and everything.

A social game... where we can't be social? (Overflow)

I can sympathize with the overflow issues and not being able to sync up with people. This shouldn’t be the case as it hinders one of the more important aspects of MMO’s… Socializing. Apart from working in LA, it would be fantastic if players had the ability to join up via right clicking player profiles.

As for Commanders asking people to join Champion zerg’s; I for one do not blame them at all. If you’re looking to assign blame, you need to look in ANet’s direction. Specifically, the lunacy that is DR. The pertinent question to ask here would be: Why are players doing this?

American English is only one iteration “amongst” many. If you’ve traveled across the pond, visited any of the former colonies or studied English; you will quickly become aware of this. The use of “amongst” is perfectly acceptable. No different than “irregardless.” Yes, it’s technically a word, however, it hasn’t caught on.

If you want to run a specific composition, let it be known. Period. If you switch midway through the run without notification, that can easily be regarded as selfish. What have we learned then? Different strokes for different folks. If you prefer running MF, simply find a group that doesn’t mind MF. Otherwise, accept the requirements stated in the LFM. It really isn’t that complicated people.

Curious, do people with this mentality consider perhaps the game would be better if this weren’t the case? That is, don’t they think the game would be better if other gear-sets were improved to be more than viable or have content that favors different tactics? Even at the cost of effectiveness of berserker gear?

Whether people like it or not, min-maxing will exist. There will always be people that will want to optimize their gear as often as their strategies. I’m one such person. That said, I do not expect others to enjoy this style of play, consequently, I tend to gravitate towards like-minded individuals.

Similarly, when I am running with strangers, I do not expect them to conform to my exacting standards. Frankly, it’s not my business. Especially as it was my choice to join that group. Of course, if we happen to be hitting the proverbial wall, I’ll suggest an alternative and leave it at that.

People are trying to proselytize two causes:

01) Care about min-max
02) Don’t care about min-max

Point being, it’s a matter of choice. It’s nonsensical to try and shoehorn one into another. That’s the beauty of LFG/LFM. You state what you require/expect and take it from there. Simply put, join and/or start groups that meet your requirements! If the LFG/LFM is vague, ask what the group wants before getting started.

@SalvinValkyries.4501 hey if its balanced and all you have to do is learn to play to beat the boss then by all means have the boss pass out cool skins and awesome rewards. But if its an untested piece of crap like the T4 candidate trials then absolutly not. There were several things wrong with that and ill elaborate on it if ya want me too but for now how about you just tell me how many skins you got from that piece of content

Infact anybody here, tell me, how many skins did you get from any of the candidate trials? Im not looking for a handout, Im looking for content that plays by the rules and is still challenging. Which is mostly why I stick to wvw.

In that respect… Understandable. Still, it isn’t much different that any other piece of content in GW2. At least they are consistent.

Thank god all you get for beating her is a mini and some chievo points. They could have done something stupid like stick a cool weapon skin behind it.

So very true… After all, it would be such a crime if they attached a unique reward that only a handful of people could achieve. I can’t even imagine it. Oh, the humanity!

There’s so many reasons to keep people interested in this game. If you don’t see anyone, it’s because they’re busy with this game’s rich end-game content.

Exploring Tyria is unpredictable and dangerous. You never know what you might encounter, which makes exploration exciting and slow enough to last for a lot of time. Remember those games where all you do is farm fetch quests, and replaying with an alt is painful? In GW2, playing with an alt is an exciting new experience. And all those enemy patrols, the unexpected encounters, the diversified enemy team formations, etc. There’s a difference between a casual explorer and a skilled explorer: the later kind of players have knowledge and experience about each unique map in Tyria, so you better ask them advice. GW2 is a game that rewards skill and knowledge, after all. And when you get that awesome treasure at the end! Isn’t it an awesome feeling to go through danger to get that rare, shiny sword and equip it? No wonder people don’t play those grindy mmos anymore, you know, those where getting rare equipment is trivial and nothing but salveagable loot. In this game, getting a rare equipment actually incentivates you to equip it and get satisfied by what you just found. No, getting loot is not just about colecting generic materials.

And the community is really tight and lively. Inbetween all the guild features, player-generated events, and demanding team-driven content, there’s so much depth and fun for those players. This is not a game about rushing with dps gear and dodging red circles, no. It’s about covering the weaknesses of your allies, giving them space to shine, and analyze the unique strategy behind each encounter.

Another reason that players might not be seen, is because they’re following and customising their personal story. They’re tweaking the personality details of their characters, completing their home instances with stuff, repeating the epic main narrative, and the two-week content patches are keeping them busy. Especially considering how important lore is in this game. Getting ascended gear, getting legendary gear, or filling in extra % map completion gets you to know a lot more about Tyria. GW2 is about the experience, not about mindless material grinding or the like. Remember the entire quest to get the Twilight? I enjoyed the story behind Bolt the best, though.

But those mmo grinders don’t enjoy a game like that. No, they’re leaving GW2, and getting back to those games where you… farm an easy dungeon for weeks, farm epic bosses by auto-attacking them, farm dailies, farm mindless mob waves… You know, those games where you’re in a never-ending race at attempting your luck with RNG boxes. That’s what keeps those games really popular, so people all went back to them. But fortunately for us all, GW2 is not this kind of game.

What is endgame supposed to be?

SalvinValkyries.4501

Grand hyperbole’s aside…

GW2 orbits around industry buzzwords, i.e, accessibility and/or lowering the threshold. In other words, content that is bite sized, easily consumed and can be just as easily monetized.

This doesn’t necessarily result in substantive content that pushes the genre and it’s target audience forward. The marketing, however, leads us to believe otherwise.

Little effort and big rewards versus big effort and big rewards. Seeing as the money is where the casuals are, it’s easy to see why the latter is becoming an endangered species.

What is endgame supposed to be?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

SalvinValkyries.4501

While I agree with some points being brought up, there really isn’t much of an endgame to speak of. What little there is can be easily accessed and completed. Players unsure of their skill need not worry, as the content doesn’t require much effort. The endgame can be as follows:

01) Dungeons
02) World Events
03) WvW
04) Skins

Now, WvW may ask more from a player, however, it comes down to numbers and coverage. Numbers equate to zergs whilst coverage equates to how often a server can run those zergs, i.e., player logins across all time zones. Simply put, there is no endgame. What could pass as such leaves a lot to be desired.

GW2 very much falls in line with what Jim discusses. The game does not test a players resolve by challenging and substantive content, rather, gating what content there is behind RNG systems and the like.

What makes it a great MMO, is an f2p system that is not an obnoxious pile of crap.

GW2 does have a few positives, however, it has a long ways to go before being considered a “great” MMO. As for it being F2P, well, simply because it’s F2P does not automatically mean it’s F2P done right. This pretty much sums up GW2’s F2P model.

That video actually has nothing to do with GW2’s F2P model. That’s exactly why I think it’s great. If the game is still profitable with this model, it’s f2p done right.

The video discusses the F2P model. It’s very much applicable to GW2. Now, whether you believe it to be otherwise is a moot point. Chocking content and corralling the user base to dip into RMH systems is far from F2P done right. As I’ve already mentioned, GW2 has a lot going for it, notwithstanding its current F2P model.

Do Legendary User Impress You?

Simple question really, do seeing a person with a legendary make you go like; “Ohhh!”, are you indifferent, or another reaction?

Is there any reputation on getting one?

Would you go for it for the reputation or for the looks?

If it became harder/easier would you appreciate it more/less?

If you do appreciate something from legendaries or its users, what is it?

The mere fact that they can be bought and sold, takes a great deal away from any “prestige” people generally associate with legendaries. Not to mention, the entire process revolves around time and/or luck, and requires the bare minimum of skill. It would be great if the process was an actual test of skill but that’s not the case. I’d say indifferent would be a compliment of sorts.

Just a wee bit condescending are we? You understand?

xD

The content in gw2 is boring.
There I said it.

It is a little bit interesting, and a little challenging, and a little bit exciting, but overall everything is shallow and boring.

I eventually found the game to be sorely lacking as well. The content was interesting for a short while but did little to keep people like myself engaged. Living story is turning out to be skin additions and gold sinks; achievement points becoming somewhat relevant, however, was a nice touch. WvW has been about numbers/coverage and PvE boils down to skins. Glitches aside, action combat and jumping puzzles were the highlights.

All things considered and accounting for preferences… I agree.

Why add harder and harder puzzle jumps?

I’ll never understand why people use “addicting” over addictive. Sorry, it’s just a personal bug. Sort of a twitch really. xD

On topic:

Am I reading this correctly? Are people actually arguing for less challenging content? Really!? The game doesn’t have enough of it as it is and you’d prefer it to be even easier. The Mad King’s Clock Tower was far from being impossibly difficult. Otherwise there would only be a handful of people with completions. I would argue that the puzzles aren’t difficult enough. There should be puzzles that require a massive effort and only a handful of dedicated few to be credited with completions. Please, enough of this homogenization.
